Chapter 8: The Lotus Eaters

The car broke down as they entered Las Vegas and Selene had been surprised that it had lasted this long. Percy was against taking a bus so Severus had a cab take them to the only place that the rooms would be cheap enough. Also, his father made it clear that they would be put up in the Lotus Hotel. Severus wondered if it was because Hades wanted a war so that he could gain more subjects.

This was one thing that he didn't agree with his father on.

Still, he had the cab take them there and as they entered he said to Selene, "Don't eat any of the flowers."

"Why not?"

"Because you'll never want to leave."

He figured that if Poseidon really cared about his son, he would ensure that the group left before the Summer Solstice.

The moment they arrived, and checked in, they were bombarded by offers to have them try the flowers. Listening to Severus warning about not eating the flowers she just asked for room service.

"Good choice," he said.

"Why didn't you warn the others?" Selene asked him.

"Because they won't listen," Severus told her. "I was stuck here since the mid eighteen hundred's and they didn't have a hotel back then."

"Wait a minute, how old are you?" Selene asked him.

"I'm over a hundred years old," Severus answered. "Well I'm about a hundred and seventy-three."

"Looking good for your age."

"I'll take that as a complement," Severus said.

To Selene's complete horror she saw the effects of the flowers. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were completely under its spell. She looked around the hotel and found people dressed in all different time periods. Hades, she even found one from the late fourteen hundred's. This place just didn't trap you, you didn't die. She found Grover playing a game where he was hunting humans. That was way too creepy for her taste.

"Grover, we have to get out of here."

"Die polluting human's, die," he said.

"Remember Pan," Selene said and that seem to break him out of his spell.

"The Summer Solstice," he said.

"Get Percy and Annabeth," she ordered. "I'll grab Severus."

"On it," Grover said and she ran for their rooms.

"We need to get out of here…now."

He grabbed everything that he had and they ran from the room. Down below Percy and Annabeth were fighting the employees of the hotel, the guests screaming in horror. Selene made her bow appear and shot several bows that were designed to knock them out, not kill. Running out of the hotel, she shot one of her knock-out arrows, as she called it, at a driver and they all climbed in.

"Drive, drive," Selene ordered and they sped away.

They only had two days before the Summer Solstice.

"They're never going to make it," Artemis told Hecate.

"Trust your daughter," Hecate said. "I'll keep the mortal authorities away from them."

"Thanks," Artemis said.

In the distance she saw the weather turning bad. Zeus and Poseidon was getting ready for war.

A/N: Sorry about the short chapter. I'll be back tomorrow with a much longer chapter. On another note we finally get the exact age that Severus is and why he warned Selene about the flowers and not the others. He's right, they wouldn't of listened.
