Chapter 5: Refill

Emily was in the past, sitting in a carriage with the curtains closed across from what appeared to be Elena dressed in the 18th century.

Emily couldn't believe her eyes. She wanted to say something.

As she tries to speak,Emily realizes that she's only a viewer in her past self life.

Yet she could feel everything her past-self was feeling at the moment.

"Katherine, I know you dislike small towns and America. You also know I dislike America for enslavement and treatment of women,"Emily began and Katherine silenced her with a soft kiss.

"Yes, I would rather be back in Germany with you but you felt called here," Katherine paused with a smile.

" I've never questioned your witchy powers. I'd be foolish to start now"

Emily blushed and nodded. She felt magic start to intertwine itself with two people near the carriage.

This feeling of magic and emotions calling to another being bonding Emily to them. It had happened before with Katherine.

Katherine was her companion.

By definition Katherine was her other half, they anchored each other, she has access to Emily magic while Emily has access to her vampire abilities.

Emily's eyes widened, she always heard stories of powerful witches having more than one companion but it hasn't occurred in centuries.

"Tell the carriage driver to stop," Emily asked Katherine. She did so and both Emily and Katherine peaked out the window.

Two men who were near the carriage looked up at them.

One with blue eyes and midnight black hair, pearl toned skin, tall and well built. Next to him was a younger man around Emily current age 17, he had forest green eyes and light brown hair, he was tall and lean.

Emily gasped and closed the curtains, Katherine laughed until Emily started speaking.

"I've had vision about them," Emily said in a daze.

"The one with the blue eyes is Damon, the older brother and the one with green eyes is Stefan, They are the Salvatore Brothers" Emily tried to explain.

"They are handsome men but also they seem human," Katherine noted

"Yes for now, in my visions they were vampires," Emily signed.

"If we could be the ones who give them a choice to become a vampire that'd be nice right?" Emily questioned biting her lip nervously.

"That's a sweet thought Emily, not a lot of vampires, get to choose and if they were meant to be vampires it would happen with or without us here," Katherine agreed, patting her hand gently in comfort.

Emily gave Katherine a pleading look.

" And if they want to be human, we'll do everything in our power to make sure they stay that way right?"

Katherine sighed "I can only promise you we will try,"

Emily nodded sadly. "Maybe we should just leave town, go back to Germany, help my parents with my orphaned nieces"

"We left Germany for another reason too Emily, for your safety, your family's and mine" Katherine said as intertwined her fingers with Emily.

Emily felt so heartbroken and guilty over being in the town, having to leave Germany and her visions.

"I'm so sorry Katherine, I feel like I dragged you into my mess,"

Katherine shook her head. "No need to apologize, I knew what I was getting myself into when I swore loyalty, love and protection to you"

Emily nodded and kissed her softly on the lips.

"So what's our backstory for the townspeople?"

Katherine laughs.

"Oh, I thought you'd never ask?"

Katherine informs the carriage driver to start driving again.

"So I have three story options, let me know which one you like the most?" Katherine begins.

"I'm a newly orphaned girl whose family died in a house fire. I'm looking for a new start with my handmaiden and my family million dollar heirloom. I'm hoping to find a kind family to take us in and share my riches"

Emily frowned but nodded. She'll save her questions until she hears all three of Katherine story options.

"I'm a widow from a house fire, looking for my late husband's brother to find shelter for me and my handmaiden, and give him his brother's heirloom. I would compel some single poor man and make him rich for food and shelter for us."

Emily frown deepens but nodded.

"I'm a newly orphaned girl whose family died in a house fire, I'm looking for shelter, food and clothes along with my handmaiden from a kind family and will be forever grateful"

Katherine signed and shook her head. "I know these aren't the best idea and their multiple things that could go wrong in these scenarios but it's best I could do on short notice"

"Okay, I guess the first one seems the safest," Emily suggests.

"I thought so too, even though there's a possibility that they would steal the heirloom and leave us on the street. But I could always compel them to make sure they don't do that. I even brought an old crafted golden necklace with a large sapphire attached to it "

Emily sighed and nodded. "Do I even want to know where you got that?"

"Probably not, my sweet doe," Katherine winked. She instructed the carriage driver to stop at the first large house he comes across.

It was just their luck.

The first large house they come across is The Salvatore house and estate.

After Katherine smooth talks and sells their sob story to Giuseppe Salvatore, he invites them into his home and instructs the house slaves to show them around. Also, Giuseppe instructs two of the female slaves to set up Katherine's room and show Emily her quarters.

Emily feels angry and saddened at the state of the house slaves. Most of them have bruises on their arms or face, especially the females, eyes puffy and red. They have a distant look in their eyes and Emily senses that they are doing their best to detach from their reality.

If they're willing, I will teach them to read, write, use herbs and the elements to heal their body and possibly their soul, Emily thought. She even asked where the rest of the house slaves rested and the field slaves. So that she would be able to stop by and talk with all of them.

Once, Emily and Katherine were settled into their new temporary home. The Salvatore Brothers had arrived in the house just as Katherine was asking if Giuseppe would show her around town.

"Perfect timing, my sons. This is Katherine Pierce, she is our guest and I would like you two to show her around town along with her handmaiden," Guisueppe began then paused and narrowed his eyes at Damon.

" be back before suppertime. We have things to discuss Damon before you leave for the confederate army tomorrow "

Damon glared at him and his hands balled up into fist. "We just came back from town, father, and I would like to rest before I have head off to this dread confederate army that you and this town is so-

Emily let out a surprising scream when Giuseppe struck Damon, sending him to the floor. Katherine quickly pulled Emily closer to her and squeaked her hand in comfort.

"See, you and the army, worry me. But I refuse for you to make a fool out of me, boy! Do as you're told and stay in line. Be like your brother, Stefan, here. Quiet and obedient" Giuseppe yelled before straightening his suit and stepping over his son.

As he walked off toward his study, he waved off. "I do, apologize to you, Miss Katherine for my eldest son, Damon manners. I hope you enjoy stroll through town, see you at suppertime"

When Giuseppe closes his study doors, Stefan lets out a breath at the same time Damon lets out a dry laugh.

Stefan helps his brother up off the floor. And turned to see both Emily and Katherine standing close together.

"Well, I'm Stefan Salvatore and this is Damon Salvatore. It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Katherine Pierce. And who is this rare beauty, next to you?"

Damon sighed and rolled his eyes. "Brother, please remember where we are? You can't say things like that with Father so close. Even if it is true, I would like to know her name too. It's more dangerous for her than it is for you, Stefan right now. Well, until the confederate army loses the war"

Damon smiled and the two brothers laughed. Emily and Katherine both smile at the brothers and hear them laugh.

"I'm Emily. Emily Bennett" Emily blushed when they both bowed in unison. Katherine couldn't keep the grin off her face.

"Well, let us show y'all around our small town and what it has to offer," Stefan said, offering his arm for Emily to take. While Damon offered his arm Katherine to take.

Emily noticed the house staff did not take too much mind to the Salvatore brothers and tried their best to hide their smiles at the brothers' antics.

The first place they ended up going was Fredrick's apothecary.

It happened to be run by two vampires, a tall blonde man with blue eyes and pearl-toned skin. And a black short woman with long braids and brown eyes that narrow at the sight of Katherine.

The Salvatore brothers were pulled into a conversation with the tall blonde haired man.

"Well, what is a legend doing in our small town?" the short black woman asked.

"Excuse me," Katherine said, confused and suspicious.

The short woman tilted her head and smirked. "Don't play coy, your the legendary Katherine, the one who escaped the original hybrid and then the original slayer"

"I didn't realize I've become a legend," Katherine paused and glanced at Emily.

" I feel at a disadvantage. Who are you and how do you know about me?" Katherine questioned, smiling sharply at the short black women.

"I am someone, who doesn't want any trouble in my vampire thriving town," the woman began, then glanced at the tall blonde haired man.

"And you, Katherine are a trouble magnet"

Emily frowned and stepped in between the two vampires.. "Listen, we don't want any trouble. I'm Emily Bennett-"

The short woman laughed. "Oh that's perfect, a Bennett witch another trouble magnet."

"Fine, I'll give y'all a chance, keep your head down and don't start shit in this town. I am Bethany and the tall blonde man over there is my husband Fredrick. Welcome to Mystic Falls" Shaking her head as she walks towards her husband, Frederick.

Emily felt herself back in her own time and body standing in the living room of her Grams house with all eyes on her.
