Chapter 5: A Man with a Hex!
"Puppy Power, huh?" Steve smirked as Velma learned on his shoulder.
"Uh Huh. And he wasn't even a puppy. He had a gland disorder," Velma laughed.
Rise blinked in surprise. "Oh…well, that's news to me," She winced.
"You didn't know that?" Chie gasped with mock shock.
"I can't know everything!" Rise glared at her.
Daphne and Fred are seen walking back into the main room as Tuana finishes playing the piano. Everyone clapped in applause from his wonderful tunes.
"Do we clap too?" Nanako asked.
"I…I guess," Yukiko answered as she and the others started clapping.
Scooby whistles and claps in applause. As he does that one of the demons from earlier walks up to the glass and fogs up the glass with his breath. Scooby turns to look at him and turns back to the lobby, not realizing what he had just seen.
The audience all gasped in shock at the monster's return. Not expecting to see it again so soon. Nanako leaned a bit more into Yukiko, creeped out by the monster's appearance.
"Is that what Zarkos meant by the big muchachos? Those monsters?" Yosuke asked.
"We can only assume 'yes' at this point. And with the word being plural, that means there are more than the one Scooby encountered earlier," Naoto said.
"I don't want more of those things!" Chie whined.
"Do you think Scooby noticed?" Kanji asked.
"Give him a second. These things take a second to click for him," Rise answered.
Scooby perked up in fear, realizing that was the creature from earlier. He panicked in fear and started running all over the place. "Relp me! Relp me! Ronsters! Ronsters!" The dog fled underneath a table, shaking in fear.
"Yup, there's his expected reaction," Rise told Kanji.
Everyone looked weirded out and confused by Scooby's sudden screaming. Fred rushed away from Daphne to confront Scooby.
Weirdly enough, Mondevarious was scratching behind his ear like a dog.
Naoto perked an eyebrow at that. "Now, why would he act like a dog?" She asked mentally.
Fred knelt down to Scooby's level. "Scooby! This is the most embarrassing thing you've done since you decided to clean your beans at Don Knott's Christmas Party!" He scolded the dog.
Scooby looks at the camera before giggling at his own naughty deed.
"...Well, he is a dog," Yu shrugged. Cartoon dogs or not, they do have needs.
Fred stood on top of the table to make an announcement to everyone. "How many times do I have to tell you? There are no such things as ghouls, ghosts, goblins, or monsters."
"I wouldn't say that," The entire team said simultaneously.
"Yeah! Scooby encountered that monster twice!" Nanako shouted.
"Not what we were referring to, but that's also true," Yosuke whispered to Chie. The martial artist nodded her head in agreement.
"Now listen up. There is absolutely no such thing as-"
CRASH!
The demon from before crashed through the window behind Fred and roared loudly.
"MONSTER!" Teddie and Chie yelled.
"MONSTER!" Fred screamed at the same time. Mass panic began to ensue as the demon began sprinting after them. Fred tried to run away, but the creature caught him by the leg, tripping him up.
"Fred!" Daphne screamed, concerned.
"Fred!" Rise also yelled, hoping nothing bad happened to him.
"Oh no!" Nanako yelled. She held Yukiko's hand as comfort, the monsters freaking her out even more.
"They wouldn't kill him, would they?" Kanji asked. He was slapped on the arm by Rise.
"Don't say something like that with Nanako-chan in the room!" She berated him.
Everyone watched in apprehension as the beast lifted Fred up to its face by his leg. "Scooby…!" Fred started, but was cut-off by the demon releasing a disgusting green breath from its mouth into his face.
Yukiko shivered in disgust, imagining the disgusting smell. "That's even worse than what I thought would happen," She said.
"...save Daphne…" Fred passed out.
Rise's heart clenched at Fred's words. "He really loves her, huh?" She had noticed the signs of affection between the two. She started to realize that a lot of his talk of her getting kidnapped was fear of her getting hurt.
Scooby's reaction to what happened to Fred was to run away. The demon continued to terrorize everyone in the lobby as Tuana smiled evilly.
Velma was on the floor, crawling to reach her glasses. "My glasses. I can't find my glasses."
"Oh, of all the times for this to happen!" Rise complained.
"Does this happen to her a lot?" Naoto asked.
"More than you'd expect," Rise sighed.
Mondevarious looked up to see more of those demons crashing through the skylight.
"Ugh! I hate that Naoto-kun was right!" Chie whined.
"I really wish I wasn't right about this," The blue detective sighed. She really hated the disturbing look of these monsters.
One of them jumped over to Velma. It roared at anyone who was nearby and picked up Velma's glasses. "Here they are."
"THEY CAN TALK!?" Everyone shouted, disturbed.
"Thank you," Velma took the glasses. She put them on and didn't flinch at the demon's roaring. "Nice mask."
"Mask!? Girl, that is no mask!" Chie exclaimed.
"What was she doing when Fred got taken out?" Yosuke questioned, shocked.
"Probably looking for her glasses," Yu answered.
"I told you guys, she won't believe it until it hits her in the face," Rise sighed.
"And bad breath," She insulted. The creature made an offended face before snatching her up in its large hand. Velma giggled and attempted to pull off the creature's 'mask'. Only to come to the horrifying realization that what was currently attacking them wasn't a fake. "Jinkies…"
The creature released the same green breath and Velma passed out.
"Velma!" Rise and Nanako yelled.
"Velma!" Shaggy shouted at the same time. Suddenly, another demon crashed through the wall behind them. "Come on!" Shaggy took a hold of Mary Jane's hand as they ran away. The two jumped over the bar counter to hide away.
Daphne ran up the stairs to also run away after seeing Fred and Velma get defeated so easily.
Steve attempted to try and save Velma, but he was easily dealt with as well.
"Well, he tried," Yosuke chuckled, nervously.
Shaggy and Mary Jane slowly inched towards the ends of the bar table. "This is, like, the opposite of what I wanted to do today," Shaggy said, terrified.
"I'm pretty sure nobody wanted to be chased by abnormal demons today," Yukiko agreed.
"It's definitely the last thing on my list," Chie muttered.
Daphne jumped off of the stairs and saw Tuana was trying to get to the Daemon Ritus. She was closer than he was and managed to snag it in time. She stuck out her tongue in a mocking manner.
"Yes! Go Daphne!" Rise cheered.
Tuana tried to charge at her, but a stampede of people prevented him from reaching her. The fashionista put the Daemon Ritus into her purse and stood in front of Mondevarious. "Stand back, sir. I'll protect you."
A monster hand burst through the floorboards and grabbed Mondevarious.
"Well, that lasted as long as I thought," Chie deadpanned.
"To be fair, who would've seen that coming!" Rise defended Daphne.
"If she was paying attention to her surroundings, then maybe," Kanji shrugged.
"You try doing that when there's absolute mass panic around you!" Rise continued to defend Daphne.
Tuana watched it happen before running out of the hotel. Daphne watched helplessly as Mondevarious was dragged underneath. "Mr. Mondevarious!"
The monster's hand tried to reach for her, but she batted it away by hitting it with her purse.
"I would use my fan instead. It'll deal more damage," Yukiko said.
Shaggy and Mary Jane ran from behind the bar. "Daphne, go!" Shaggy ran behind the girls and stopped for a moment. "SCOOBY-DOO! WHERE ARE YOU!?" He screamed just as the monster burst through the floorboards.
"HE SAID THE LINE!" Rise couldn't help but squeal at the highest octave possible. Everyone had to cover their own ears to protect their eardrums.
The idol practically melted on the floor, having been almost completely satisfied by Shaggy saying those famous words.
"Will she be okay?" Kanji asked Naoto.
"I would hope so," She eyed Rise warily.
Song: "Man with the Hex" by The Atomic Fireballs
"Oh my god! We're getting a chase scene too!?" Rise squealed some more.
"A what?" Naoto asked for the upteenth time.
Rise turned to her detective classmate. "Scooby-Doo is also well known for having chase scenes with insert songs from popular artists. A whole 5 minutes dedicated to the gang running from the monster with a song playing in the background!" Rise proudly, explained.
A monster was seen chasing down some guests as the camera panned down to some leftover suitcases. The black suitcase began moving on its own.
"Wait how? Is it a magic suitcase!?" Teddie gasped.
"No, you idiot! Obviously, Scooby's in there!" Yosuke pointed out.
The bag stopped moving when one of the monster's almost ran past it. When it turned around the bag began moving again, only for the monster to notice it anyway. It inched closer to the bag, ready to discover who was under it.
"Running Suitcase. Run suitcase. Run…" Scooby chanted to himself. His tail formed a question mark when he realized that the bag covering him was gone. He panicked and turned around to see the monster make a swipe at him.
"Run, Scooby!" Nanako shouted, desperate for the dog to not get captured.
Scooby dodged the swipe and held up a paw. His action stopped the monster, confusing it.
"There's no way that worked…" Naoto sweat dropped.
"I wonder just how stupid these monsters are?" Yu smirked.
Scooby took hold of the monster's hand and gasped at its nails. He began to rub them with his elbow as if he was doing a manicure, before simply biting the nails off.
The audience laughed at the monster's reaction to Scooby's poor manicure job.
"Remind me to never let Scooby do my nails," Rise giggled.
The dog smiles cheekily before zipping away fast enough to leave a dust shaped Scooby. The monster gives chase immediately in anger.
Scooby slides across the bar counter, his attention was taken by a sandwich that was left by someone. He goes back and grabs the sandwich with his teeth.
"He really needs to stop thinking with his stomach so much," Rise sighed.
"You hear that, Chie? Stop thinking with your stomach," Yosuke teased. His teasing disappeared when she kicked him in the sides.
"Shut it, Hanamura!" She growled.
The monster rose from behind the counter, ready to grab the dog. Scooby jumped away in fear, leaving the sandwich to twirl in the air. The monster ended up grabbing the sandwich and sprayed mustard into its eyes.
"Rhank you!" Scooby came back for the sandwich.
"Yeah! Stick it to 'em, Scooby!" Kanji cheered.
Shaggy, Daphne, and Mary Jane entered an empty hallway. "Where's Scooby!?" Daphne asked.
"I don't know, but I hope he's okay!" Shaggy exclaimed.
Suddenly they were knocked over by a trolley being pushed by Scooby. "Right here!" Scooby answered.
"Scooby-Doo with the save!" Rise pumped her fist. Happy to see Scooby keeping his promise to save Daphne.
"Hey, Scoob," Shaggy grinned.
"Scooby-Dooby-Doo!" Scooby howled.
Two demons entered the hallway to see the four of them getting away. Scooby turned around and began mocking them.
"I don't think you should be mocking the monsters that can easily kill you," Naoto sweat dropped.
"You monsters are no match for Scooby!" Nanako cheered on the talking-dog.
The three humans when they noticed that they were approaching a window. "SCOOBY!" They all shouted simultaneously.
The dog turned around and screamed as well as they all crashed through the window. Scooby attempted to run in the air until gravity decided to pull him downwards. He and the humans fell down three stories, bouncing off a tarp and landing safely onto the ground.
"They are so lucky to be alive right now," Yu said, releasing a sigh of relief. The others agreed with him, knowing that a fall like that could've been fatal for them.
The monsters attempted to do the same thing, but due to their weight they just fell through the tarp.
"Idiots," Chie sighed, thankful that the monsters were incompetent.
The entire resort was completely wrecked, and the monsters were dragging unconscious bodies of all the guests.
"Ya know, as terrible as the situation is, I just realized something," Yosuke got everyone's attention.
"What?" Chie asked.
"Daphne was correct earlier on. Fred and Velma got captured first this time," He pointed out.
"And this time she and the others will save them!" Rise exclaimed, hoping for the best.
"But, first we should wonder as to where those monsters are taking those people," Naoto reminded everyone.
"Probably some sort of monster cave!" Teddie exclaimed.
Scooby and the three humans poked their heads out of four large vases. "I have a sinking feeling these dudes aren't brainwashed cult members," Shaggy said.
"What was your first clue? They large pointy ears or the malnourished looking bodies?" Chie asked, sarcastically.
"What do they want with the students? We need to follow them," Daphne took over as the leader. Her declaration caught Shaggy off guard.
"Say what?" Shaggy asked, baffled.
"So, we can defeat them and save Fred and Velma!" Daphne answered.
"Exactly! This is no time for being a coward!" Kanji agreed.
Shaggy disagreed. "Sort of like my plan: Get out of here, and let the creatures eat Fred and Velma!"
"You can't abandon your friends, Shaggy!" Nanako yelled, disappointed by the man's cowardice.
"Would he actually do that?" Yukiko asked, Rise.
"He's a coward, but he'd find a way to work up the courage…eventually," Rise answered.
"No way. Fred and Velma always figured out everything. Now it's our turn, Shaggy. For the first time, they're the damsels in distress, not me," Daphne declared, having her special moment.
"That's right! You go girl!" Rise cheered on Daphne.
Only for her moment to be ruined by the vase she was in tipping over.
"...And there goes the brilliant moment…" Rise sighed.
Chapter End
