Chapter 29: Big news

I couldn't quite believe it.

I had a boyfriend.

And my boyfriend was none other than Aomine Daiki.

I was smiling from ear to ear. I couldn't think of another time when I had been happier.

I was about to leave my apartment when I unconsciously touched the necklace, he had given me on my birthday.

My smile only widened.

I would see him soon.

Feeling giddy and excited I left my apartment. I left the building when I saw a familiar figure casually leaning on the wall.

"Daiki?" I asked surprised to see him here.

He turned into my direction and when he saw me, he smiled softly.

"Yo." He said waving his hand before taking a few steps towards me and wrapping his arms around me.

I looked up at him smiling but still surprised that he was here.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Accompanying my girlfriend to school of course." He said casually and goosebumps erupted all over my body.

He leaned forward and planted a small kiss on my lips.

"Morning." He said after backing up a little to have a better look at me.

"Morning." I said standing on my tiptoes and planting a kiss on his lips.

He chuckled.

"Shall we?" He said nodding towards the direction we had to take.

I nodded.

I was about to begin walking when he took hold of my bag.

"Don't argue." He said chuckling already knowing what I was about to do.

I closed my mouth looking at him in amusement.

"You don't have to do this." I said slowly.

"I know I don't." He said smiling softly at me.

"But I want to." He added while wrapping his hand around mine and intertwining our fingers.

"That's sweet of you." I said looking up at him.

"I know." He said smugly and I nudged his side playfully which caused him to laugh.

"What did Sa-chan say when you told her you were going to walk with me?"

"Ehm." He said slowly looking like someone who had just realised he had forgotten something.

"Oh Daiki." I said realising what that meant. "Don't tell me you forgot to call her."

He chuckled looking guiltily at me.

I stopped and he got out his phone.

He dialled her number and a moment later I heard Momois angry voice on the other side of the line.

"I'm sorry Satsuki." He said looking uncomfortable.

"I'm with Em." He said. "I wanted to walk with her."

"What why?" He said sounding annoyed.

"Yes, there is a reason."

"Yes, it's a good one."

"Yes, I will tell you when I see you at school."

"Ok bye." He said while hanging up his phone.

I looked at him in amusement.

"She will be unbearable once she finds out we're together." He said while rolling his eyes. "She has pestered me to make the first move for ages."

"She has?" I asked smirking.

He looked at me and gave me a soft smile.

"I told you I wanted to tell you for a long time now." He said. "I had initially planned to tell you on your birthday."

"So that was what you wanted to tell me." I said realising that was the stammering he had done moments before the others arrived.

He nodded.

"I simply got too nervous." He confessed.

"Why?" I asked cheekily.

He rolled his eyes and then he said in a tone that suggested it was obvious.

"Because I wasn't sure if you liked me in that way."

I chuckled.

"Well, I do." I said grinning.

"I know that now." He said squeezing my hand gently.

"But I couldn't know for sure. Especially considering the tight bond you have with the others."

"Daiki." I said slowly dread beginning to feel my inside. "I am not going to act any different towards them just because I'm your girlfriend now."

"I know." He said giving me a reassuring squeeze. "I would never ask something like that of you."

I let out a relieved breath.

"And as if I had a choice with Murasakibara and Midorima hovering around you all the time." He said jokingly and I laughed.

"I wonder how they will react." I said and he joined into my laughter.

"Oh, Murasakibara and Midorima won't like it."

"You think so?" I asked.

Aomine nodded.

"I'm sure of it."

"What about the others?" I asked smiling imagining the reaction of my remaining friends.

"Tetsu will be happy for us. As will Akashi. Satsuki will go absolutely mental."

I laughed.

"But we're going to tell them, right?"

"Of course, we will." He said smiling softly at me. "I want to let the entire world know you're my girlfriend now."

When I heard his words, warmth spread through my body and I couldn't help but to be immensely happy having him by my side.

"Me too." I said and hearing this his smile widened while his eyes were glinting happily.

Teiko came nearer but Aomine didn't let go of my hand. More and more students came into view and I could hear the whispers erupting when they spotted the both of us holding hands. For once I didn't mind the whispers. They were whispering about something which made me immensely happy.

"What is going on here?" I heard someone say from behind us.

We looked back to see that Midorima was looking between the two of us in utter shock. His eyes were zeroed in on our intertwined fingers and realisation began to dawn on him.

We momentarily let one another go in order to face him but Aomine immediately took my hand back into his.

"Shin?" I said a bit hesitatingly.

"Don't tell me it is what I think it is?" He said pointing between the two of us in utter shock.

"What is going on here?" I heard another voice say.

I saw Akashi and I was immediately relieved. He would be able to keep Midorima calm.

Akashi looked at our intertwined fingers and then at Midorima and he immediately realised what was going on.

"Ahh." He said giving me a small smile. "You two finally got together."

I nodded while giving him a beaming smile and then looking at Aomine who was squeezing my hand reassuringly.

"I'm happy for you." Akashi said and Midorima looked at him like he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"What do you mean you're happy for them?" Midorima asked clearly irritated.

"Well yes, Shintaro." Akashi said calmly. "You too have noticed the feelings they have for one another."

"Well, I hoped she would come to her senses." He said and I tried to stifle my laughter.

"Hey." Aomine exclaimed loudly. "What is that supposed to mean?"

"Exactly what it is supposed to mean." Midorima bit back loudly. "I don't understand how she can fall for a baka like you."

"Shin." I said quietly and he turned to look at me.

I smiled gently at him and I let go of Aomines hand.

He looked like he was about to protest.

"One second." I said giving him a small smile and he nodded while still glaring at Midorima.

I walked towards my green haired friend who refused to look at me.

"Shin." I said again and this time he looked at me.

"Really?" He asked quietly so only I could hear him.

"Him?"

I nodded seriously.

"Why?" He asked trying to understand what had happened.

I shrugged.

"It just happened. I can't really give you an explanation. But I'm happy. He makes me happy. I can't explain what drew me to him, but now that I am with him everything feels right."

Midorima was giving me a hard look and I squeezed his arm gently.

"Nothing is going to change just because we're together now."

"It better not." He said and his features softened slightly when he saw the look, I was giving him.

He groaned rolling his eyes and throwing his arms up in defeat.

"Fine." He said. "You have my blessing."

"Didn't know we needed that." Aomine said irritated but I gave him a look that told him to simply accept it and be grateful for it.

Or at least act like he was grateful for it.

I walked back to Aomine and he placed his arm around my shoulder.

"But no kissing in front of me." Midorima said immediately and I laughed while Akashi looked highly amused.

"What?" Aomine said and from his smug look he was giving Midorima I already knew what he was going to do.

"You mean that?" He said while lifting my chin up and pressing his lips on mine.

I smiled into the kiss.

When he backed up, he winked at me looking satisfied and I began to laugh.

"I think I might be sick." Midorima said looking pale.

"OH MY GOD." We heard someone scream.

Momoi was standing a few meters from us and she looked like Christmas had come early.

She had clearly just seen us kissing.

"Brace yourself." Aomine muttered wide eyed.

A second later Momoi sprinted towards us and launched herself at us. She was hugging the both of us while still squealing excitedly.

"Was about time." She said giving her best friend a pointed look, after she had decided to let us go.

"Yeah, yeah." He said rolling his eyes at her but still smiling slightly.

"You support this?" Midorima asked.

"Of course, I am supporting this. I wanted them to get together for so long now. How they were tiptoeing around the fact that they both liked one another but none of them did anything drove me simply insane." She said giving both of us a reproachful look.

Aomine and I exchanged a look before we both smiled.

"But we're together now." I said and Aomine nodded.

"That's all that counts." He said.

"Hello." Another voice spoke up, which startled the entire group with the exception of Akashi.

"Tetsu." Aomine said giving him a reproachful look. "Stop appearing out of nowhere."

"What is going on?" He asked ignoring Aomine completely.

"Dai-chan and Emi-chan are finally together." Momoi said immediately not even giving us a chance to tell him ourselves.

"Oh." Kuroko said looking between the both of us until a small smile appeared on his face. He spotted us holding hands and said

"I see you're not hiding this anymore."

"What do you mean?" Momoi asked immediately looking vivid between Kuroko and myself and Aomine.

Kuroko shrugged.

"It's not the first time they're holding hands."

"WHAT?" Momoi exclaimed.

"Why haven't you told me?" She rounded at us looking accusingly at the both of us.

"Sa-chan." I said in a calming tone. "We simply forgot. We didn't do it on purpose."

"Alright." She said immediately a lot calmer than a second earlier.

"Morning." I heard another voice speak up and the last from our group had joined.

I gulped.

I didn't know how Murasakibara would react and I was slightly nervous.

"Why is everyone standing outside?" He asked in his usual bored tone.

Midorima pointed at Aomine and myself.

Murasakibara followed his line of sight. It took him a few seconds to spot our intertwined fingers.

He lowered the chocolate bar he had been munching on while Aomines grip on my hand tightened.

"Why is Mine-chin holding Emi-chins hand?" He asked slowly and Midorima smirked.

He had finally someone who would be on his side.

"Atsushi." I said slowly and Murasakibara's purple eyes locked on my silver eyes.

"Daiki and I are together."

"Together?" He asked still not comprehending what exactly I meant.

"Em is my girlfriend." Aomine said calmly while bracing himself for whatever was to come.

It may had been better if I had been the one telling him.

Murasakibaras eyes narrowed and he gave Aomine a hard look.

"No." He said simply.

"What do you mean no?" Aomine asked and Murasakibara walked towards us.

He stopped when he was in front of us.

"I'm protecting Emi-chin not you Mine-chin." He said while towering over Aomine.

He looked intimidating, but Aomine was not backing down.

"I'm protecting her too." Aomine said glaring at Murasakibara.

I tucked Murasakibaras sleeve and he slowly turned towards me.

"Atsushi." I said softly. "Daiki is not going to hurt me. I promise."

"You sure, Emi-chin?" Murasakibara said giving me a much softer look than Aomine.

I nodded.

He turned once again towards Aomine.

"If you hurt Emi-chin I will crush you." He said in a dangerously low tone and my eyes widened having never seen him like that.

"I won't." Aomine said confidently.

"Good." Murasakibara said.

Then he turned once again towards me.

"But Emi-chin." He said whining loudly and I chuckled knowing that everything was fine now.

"You will still bake me sweets, right?" He asked.

I nodded while holding back my laughter.

"Of course, I will."

"And only for me and not for Mine-chin." He said and I nodded.

"Of course." I said squeezing Aomines hand to prevent him from saying anything.

"Good." Murasakibara said looking satisfied.

"And Emi-chin." He said looking at me intensely.

"Yes, Atsushi?"

"I am still your favourite, right?"

Hearing his words, I began to laugh.

"Of course, you are." I said and Murasakibara gave Aomine a smug look.

"I am Emi-chins favourite." He said and then he began walking towards the building.

I laughed even harder when I saw the baffled expression on Aomines face.

"Well, this went better than I had expected." I said and Aomine looked at me in utter disbelief.

I laughed even harder while our group began walking after Murasakibara.
