Welcome one, welcome all who were curious enough to press the title of my first story, I will start of by saying I own neither My Hero Academia, nor do I own Fairy tail. Is this crossover a bit too ambitious as a first story, quite likely, but as the idea did not want to leave my brain alone I decided to give it a shot anyway. As when I will update this story, the initial thought is once a month, it might change. I rated this pic M, mostly because of Bakugo, but I don't know how far we'll go, or what will happen, trying to stay on the safe side. The perspectives used will most likely be third person for the most part, with splashes of first person from the main characters. Please bear with me as English is not my first language and I do not have a beta reader as of this moment. Now without further ado let's get this show on the road.
-Third person POV a few years back-
Izuku Midoriya was at the moment 4 years old and on his way to the doctor who would hopefully tell him what his quirk was and if he could be a hero like he had wanted to be from the moment he saw his favourite video of All Might. Bouncing in the back seat of his mom's car his mom worrying about what they were going to hear, his dad absent for a while now. So far his mom hadn't heard anything aside from that he was working abroad in the betterment of their little family.
Arriving at the doctor Izuku took his All Might action figure along with him as they waited for their appointment, playing hero happily, with him saving All might from certain death. If only the little kid knew how right he was with that prediction. Not that anyone would remember that in the future. Finally being called into the examination room he was led to the x-ray machine and a shot of his feet was taken. Seeing that there was nothing abnormal there and that he should have a quirk. That fact helped Izuku's mom settle down a little bit.
The downside to that particular test was that it only confirmed that the kid had a quirk, not what the quirk was. The doctor tried to take a blood sample from Izuku, to see if they could have any more answers from his blood and genetic material. That was the normal procedure, the abnormal thing here was that Izuku struggled against it, rather strongly. Inko Midorya was a lot of things, a worrywart, a woman, a UA alumni ((general studies)not that she would tell anyone), but chief among all those things she was a mother.
As most people know there are a few things as terrifying as an angry mom, or at least a highly annoyed one. ''Is every doctor here incompetent when it comes to children or is it just you?'' Were the words flying from her mouth the moment that the doctor tried to get blood from Izuku by holding him down firmly. The doctor indignantly straightened his back and looked over to the small woman, only to shrink into himself once he saw those stone cold emerald eyes glaring daggers into his soul.
In the meantime Izuku had cradled his All might action figure to his chest and hid half behind his mom's legs. He hadn't been at the receiving end of that glare, but had it seen used against his teachers. He was scared when his mom got like that, not just because there was no fury like his mom, but also because her quirk would grow stronger with her emotions. So instead of attracting small things to herself she would be able to throw around a lot of stuff.
His mom turning around to him, warmth entered her eyes again and a small smile was on her lips. ''Izuku, the doctor needs a little blood if you want to be a hero like All Might, it's just like getting shots, it only hurts for a second and then you're done.'' For the little boy that was already more than enough, if it only let him do the smallest thing that All might did too he would do it too. Sticking out his arm the doctor quickly drew the blood, under the smug grin and warning look from Inko.
The mother and son had been told to take their lunch in the hospital's restaurant while the doctor would get straight on the tests. The man in question no longer daring them to tell them to go home because he had more things to do than cater to late bloomers. The glare that Inko shot the doctor as they left the examination room told him that would end badly for him. The lucky part for the doctor was that medical science was leaps and bounds ahead of what they had been capable of before.
While he was waiting for the results of the blood and genetics test he called around to hear if any of his colleagues had any such cases before. Only after being told no repeatedly he got the advice to call the youthful heroine Recovery Girl. As she was Japan's leading quirk specialist and medical practitioner with her varying patients at UA. Being told by a hurried sounding hero to at least get a CAT scan or x-ray done to see if there was something inside of the patient that was abnormal, was probably the best he was going to get.
With their lunches eaten the Midoriya's made their way back to the by now more frazzled looking doctor. Entering the examination room once again the doctor's eyes flew to the kid, in the hope to see something there. Only to be disappointed, not that it showed on his face. ''Well miss Midoriya, it seems little Izuku over here has a quirk coming from his father's side, but it may be effected by your side. However we can't say that for sure until it manifests itself to the outside. In the meantime I would like to ask Izuku to stand on the plate in the corner and stay very still for about five minutes. There will a device be lowered over him that will scan his entire body and show it on the pc screen.''
The doctor still thanking his lucky stars for the new technologies of mapping the inside of humans went to work. Inko led her son over to the plate in the corner, giving him the instructions that were mentioned to her and after getting the promise to stay still from Izuku she joined the doctor. The doctor mumbling along almost exactly as Izuku was known to do later in life went by the body parts. ''Nothing odd in his head, which is good, shoulders are fine, chest looks fine, if only his lungs are a bit bigger, but nothing worrying.'' However when the scanner reached the lower part of his ribs and start of Izuku's belly the doctor's eyes went wide. ''That is new, very new indeed.'' Quickly hurrying along as he could already feel the woman's eyes boring into the back of his head. '' What we see here is something that I have never seen before, as far as I am aware no one has. Or at least nothing exactly like this. Some people with anthropomorphic quirks sometimes have something of the anatomy of the animal they have the quirk from, like multiple stomachs or something like that''
Taking the back of his pen he lined the shapes that were to be seen on the screen, naming the organs as he went by them. The regular ones like the liver, spleen, kidneys, intestines, stomach, but overarching his stomach and partially his lower chest, more commonly known a person's core was where things got weird. ''What we see here is what's normally known as a person's core, only at that moment they're usually talking about the muscles in that area. With Izuku it seems like an actual core, and according to the smaller lines, perhaps more cores in the big one, but that might become more clear with time and further development of his quirk.''
Leading Izuku off of the plate that he had still been standing on he explained to the little boy and his mother that all he could tell them right now was that he had a quirk, coming from his father's side of the family, that it wasn't detrimental to his health, but that he sadly couldn't tell what it did. The doctor also told them that he would keep looking into it and hopefully tell them more at a later time. As it turned out they did find something later on. Much later than the doctor had hoped he had gotten back to the family on the matter of Izuku's quirk. The doctor gotten quite interested after having been somewhat threatened at the beginning and professional curiosity after that. The man had continued his analysis. From more analysis and cross referencing with well known hero's, hospital staff and everyday quirks they did finally find a match when it came to dragon themed quirks. As of that day they had called Izuku's quirk Dragon Core.
-Fiore Kingdom afterlife third person POV-
A salmon haired wizard woke with a start checking his surroundings, only to find that it seemed like he was in the guild hall. Which in and on itself wasn't that odd. What was odd was that there was no one there, no Happy, no Lucy, no Erza and no Gray. His friends weren't there and that led him to yelling out their names. ''Gray, Lucy, Erza, Happyyyyyy'' Hearing none of their voices reply to him was unusual, stranger was that no one told him to shut up. Then again with the guild hall being empty it shouldn't be that hard to imagine, but Natsu wasn't always the smartest. A genius in fighting, but general logic went out of the window as soon as he walked through the door.
The dragon slayer did notice one thing about himself as he was calling out the names of his closest friends and that was that his voice sounded different than what he was used to. It was a pitch higher and less raspy from trying to yell over the sounds of the guild hall. After that punched through his mind he checked himself out a bit more. Not only was the salmon haired wizard's voice changed it almost seemed like every wound that had been inflicted upon him later in his life had been healed. Aside from that he could swear he was shorter than he had been. That was the moment that a voice finally called out to him.
The voice sounded like Igneel's and the shape he saw through the doors of the guild hall reminded him of the dragon he called his father as well. ''Igneel, what are you doing here, why did you leave me alone, why did you have to die, where am I, what's happening?'' The once again young wizard called out to the figure he thought was Igneel. In fact it was and wasn't Igneel. It was a representation of the afterlife, of which Igneel was a part and so he would try to explain. ''Natsu, what I am doing here I will get to. Why I left you was that I could no longer cling to life, even though I had wished to see you grow even more than I already have. Why I had to die, it was my choice to protect you, a choice I have not regretted ever since. As to where you are and what's happening kind of ties into your first question.''
With the dragon like form the representation of the afterlife curled his tail around the (even though he'll never admit it) crying Natsu. Calming the wizard this way as he had done so in the past the representation once again started to speak. ''Natsu, I am not fully Igneel, nor am I fully anyone else. I am a representation of the afterlife, often using the part that is here from someone that meant the world to the one I am speaking to. As for your questions of what is happening and what I am doing here, those tie into one. You Natsu have died at a respectable age of 79 in your sleep after slowly becoming weaker over time, surrounded by friends and family. Some of which are already in my care.''
Natsu being the stubborn headed fiery tempered guy that he was, was already starting to protest. He was about to yell that he wasn't dead, that in fact that he only felt a bit younger and that the representation shouldn't mess with him. With ignited fists and flames coming along with the protests, only for the flames to be snuffed out and leaving him feel weakened. ''Natsu I don't mess around and in this place I decide what happens with bodies and memories, so be very careful…'' Letting the threat linger for a moment and give Natsu a chance to recollect himself the representation spoke again. ''Natsu, the friends you know and knew are either already here or will be coming here in due time. There is no one that escapes death and between you and me the members of Fairy tail always seem to find each other in the afterlife and continue their guild here.''
Chuckling the representation felt Natsu's muscles relax a bit in the grasp that he still had on him with his tail. ''What I am about to ask you though Natsu is a favor for something that only you can do. You see, there are different worlds out there, different universes if you will. The one thing that they share is the place we are in now, the afterlife. The afterlife is closely connected to what we like to call the pre-life, like the place you are born from into the different places. Are you following so far?'' The wizard had a bit of a dumbfounded look on his face, still somewhat trying to process that he was no longer alive, but that would come.
He had been paying attention after he had been reassured that his friends were either already there, or would be coming later. What he didn't get was what the favor was, or why it was so important that the places before and after life were connected. The representation saw the confusion in the young once more wizard and tried to clarify. ''Natsu, as I just told you people from every universe start in the same place and end in the sample place, but it doesn't mean they have lived the same life. What it also doesn't mean is that every ability always lands where it is supposed to go, or that every ability works the same everywhere and that last part is where you come in.''
Shifting himself to look the dragon slayer in his eyes the representation sighed and filed away some thoughts for a later moment. The world that he wanted to send Natsu to was a mix and match of different abilities from everywhere and anywhere, only to be taken together and be called quirks. The one annoying thing about what he was trying to do was that it had to be the deceased's own choice. ''The problem I am facing here is that someone in a certain universe has been born with what could be seen as dragon slayer magic, but it works a bit different from Earthland's magic. In this universe, magic and all other special abilities are called quirks. They called his quirk Dragon core. In which they're not exactly wrong as you have your magical core to work your dragon slayer magic.''
Natsu still didn't completely get where this was going, or what it had to do with him. He was rather interested though, if only to fight the person that had been born with powers like him and the other dragon slayers. The representation could see the gears turning in Natsu's head an knew that he had to interfere right then and there. ''Natsu, you're not allowed to fight him, yet. For at the moment he hasn't even unlocked his first element, all he knows he has a so called quirk, but nothing else. As it stands he might very well end up here well before his time. To make it clear, he's almost about to pull a Gray with Deliora.'' Which was enough to have Natsu go wide eyed and quite angry too, if only because he remembered the actions and the reasons behind them. It just was never the answer to anything. Fighting was the answer in Natsu's eyes, or a tactical retreat, like facing Acnologia on your own.
''The circumstances are different from Gray, same goes for the reasons of this young man, but at least you get the point now. Seeing as everything is connected I am going to ask you the favor of going to that same universe and help this kid. It is within my powers to make you the same age and have you keep all your memories…What I can't do is send anyone with you. So here is my question, will you Natsu Dragneel help Izuku Midoriya find what's worth living for, unlock his core, elements and fight him repeatedly as you get a lifetime friend and return here to your friend and family after your time is up, or will you wait here for the last of your friends to arrive and have a merry afterlife?''
The representation knew he wasn't giving Natsu much of a choice and he did feel rather sorry about that, but it had to be a personal decision, those were the rules. Natsu was sorely tempted to just say that he'd wait there for the others, that way he wouldn't have to miss them. Not that he ever would admit to missing Gray, but he knew what he had to do. The good thing about it was that he would gain new friends, help more people and fight more and food don't forget the food. All the new and different kinds of fire he could eat, maybe some lightning too if he was lucky….
Natsu had made his choice and looked the representation in the eyes. ''Igneel, I'll do it, but I had a few conditions. First I would like to communicate with the ones already here by letters or something, in a way it won't be suspicious to others. Second I want the afterlife fairy tail to be able to recruit from the place I will be going to, because the afterlife won't be worth it if I can't have all my friends with me and last a question, will I have the same power as my top, or as I am now? The representation smiled and stuck out his claw. ''Both conditions are fine with me, the communication we'll figure out as we go and as for the recruiting, I can't wait, I'd love to liven the place up a little. Now about the power you'll have. Seeing as the kid's age is about fourteen you will be the same age. The power you had back in Earthland will be yours again, but you will have your dual element and know your techniques.
Natsu took the representation's claw and the representation took Natsu's lowe arm. A light shone from where the two arms crossed each other, the light started spreading over Natsu until he was completely covered, aging back to when he was about fourteen. A glint in Natsu's eyes and a smile on the pink haired boy's lips he gave a thumbs up with his free hand. A smile on the representation's lips as well and the same thumbs up, if only bigger still being in Igneel's form. The representation spoke one last time, only this time there was guilt in his voice. ''Sorry for the way I had to ask this, but it has to be a choice made of one's own free will and also my apologies for the landing..'' Natsu shrugged at first, but stopped halfway when he felt himself falling. ''What do you mean sorry about the landiiiiiing….OOF'' With that last oof he landed, hard. Natsu had landed in what he would later learn was Musutafu, for that moment he was wondering what broke his fall. When he looked down, he adjusted the question to who broke his fall, on what seemed like a roof.
Next time we will have the meeting between our two main characters and from there we'll see how far we get. Please leave a review, if only to let me know your thoughts on the whole thing. It is my first story, so please take it easy for now.
Snowfire out.
