Zephyr Haddock is the bonded rider to a female NightLight and is attending her first year in dragon training. She has her best friends at her side and as bonded riders as well. However dragon training becomes a challenge when a Berserker joins with the rarest dragon, her friends are if anything jealous. Except her. She knows he's insane. All Berserkers are so why is she amazed?

With the dragon training nearly complete, Hiccup leaves Berk, knowing that he couldn't bring himself to kill the Monstrous Nightmare. After 10 years, rumours of a tribe of Dragon Riders reach Berk that was being devastated by the dragon raids. Seeing this as their only option of survival, a small group from Berk travels to find the mysterious tribe and their chief - Dragon Master.

Hiccup is faced with the moral dilemma of having to kill a dragon as part of his final test. He chooses to leave Berk with his dragon, Toothless, instead. On his own Hiccup grows into a formidably strong and dangerous warrior, his bond with Toothless also slowly grants him unknown powers. He's unsure if he's willing to come back and risk his life to save Berk.

Taking place after How to Train Your Dragon 2 and before How to Train Your Dragon 3, the dragon riders will meet new dragons, new threats, new allies, and their old allies, and they will have to face a threat arising in the near future
