Welcome everyone to yet another chapter of Dragon slayer, Dragon core. It has been over a month since my last update, life has been….eventful and uneventful at the same time with lockdowns and work being more than I would like to admit with two interns. We left of last time with the entrance exam and their first day is coming up. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but please leave a review with what you think so far, the ships, OFA and whatnot. Constructive criticism is appreciated, please note constructive. Now without further ado, let's get into it.
Their first day was right around the corner, Natsu and Izuku knew that they weren't going to be in the same class, but they didn't mind all that much. In fact it sparked the rivalry part of their close friendship. As they were getting their breakfast ready they talked about who they hoped to see in their class from the entrance exam. Izuku mentioned something about the gravity girl, while Natsu mentioned a girl named Kendo. A girl who reminded him somewhat of Erza from his home universe. Not exactly because she had red hair, more because she seemed to kick ass and take no shit from anyone. As they were putting on their uniforms Natsu frowned before ripping off his sleeves and putting on his ever present scarf instead of the prescribed tie. The pink haired boy would worry about the consequences later.
Both boys were now dress, Izuku actually wearing the jacket open, but with a decently made tie. His mom had seen what he had come up with first and drilled him until he got it right. The only comment from Izuku on this had been that his mom had been worse than Natsu when he wanted Izuku to have a technique down. Which earned the green haired boy a pull and twist on the ear after which the two were on their way. Their mom had offered to drive them to school for their first day, but they had declined to offer. Not because they would be ashamed to be brought by their mum, more that they thought she'd have a hard enough time to say goodbye as it was. Standing on the platform for the train they looked the part, or so they thought. Natsu had come a long way from the reckless once again kid he had been.
The train ride itself was rather uneventful and the two walked up to the main entrance of U.A. while taking out their acceptance letters. Once again confirming that they made it into the hero course and their separate classes. Receiving their student cards the moment they got past the gate. Searching for their respective classes they split up, wishing each other a good first day and hoping to see each other at the opening ceremony, or anywhere else really. At the very least they would see each other during lunch time echoed through their minds.
Natsu POV
I hurried through the hallways of U.A. hoping I would be in a class full of awesome people to fight, after all that is something that heroes do. They did a lot more things than just kick butt, Izuku reminds me often enough, that along with his rants of what hero does what on a regular basis. Finally thinking I have the right door I throw it open. ''MORNING EVERYONE, I'm Natsu Dragneel, I hope this is 1A?'' The looks that had been coming my way were telling me that either I was weird, stupid, out of place, in the right place or everything all at the same time. Only for the girl called Kendo to save my butt. ''Hey Natsu, you're in 1A too. Now that's good news at least I know I have a good competition.'' Smiling I went to sit next to her and found that at these moments I really did miss Happy. His random comments and always being there would have made this so much different.
I looked around and saw a rather colourful collection of students and of course the afternoon snack in the form of Bakugo just had to be there. For which I was actually kind of glad, it meant that he would not be in Izuku's class. A giant caterpillar, or so I thought came crawling into the class, only to stand up and reveal a very tired face that was looking at everyone and everything like he didn't have the patience to deal with it all. After about 15 seconds finally everyone had noticed him and decided to shut up. ''It took you fifteen seconds to pay attention and shut up. If that doesn't improve very quickly a lot of people are going to get kicked out of the hero course.'' Jaws were dropping rapidly from that one comment and before anyone could go into it the man spoke again. ''I am Shota Aizawa, your homeroom teacher. I would have liked to send you all straight to the gym fields for a quirk apprehension test as the introduction is illogical, but the principal made me. On the promise that both hero course classes would be taking the test straight after the introduction. So prepare yourselves.'' That was news to me and probably to Izuku as well as he hadn't told me about it. Thinking of my green haired friend I am wondering how he is doing.
The musing of how Izuku was doing would have to wait as the class attendance was being taken at that moment, though I couldn't decipher any logic to it. Was it on ranking of the entrance exam, alphabetical, order of signing up or just whatever Aizawa felt like? Immediately it started. ''Natsu Dragneel? Present'' From that moment I tried to print the names into my mind. Katsuki Bakugo, Yuga Aoyama, Rikido Sato, Itsuka Kendo, Hanta Sero, Denki Kaminari, Eijiro Kirishima, Toru Hagakure, Mashirao Ojiro, Yui Kodai, Reiko Yanagi, Juzo Honenuki, Setsuna Tokage, Jurota Shishida, Pony Tsunotori, Shihai Kuroiro and Sen Kaibara.
''Now that we have confirmed everyone is here for now, please put on your gym uniforms and follow me to the auditorium, because after that it's test time.'' Knowing it was a quirk aptitude test I didn't sweat it too hard, as long as I got to fight, or do something physical it would be fine, the written tests scared me a lot more. Though I wonder how Izuku was doing…
Izuku POV
After splitting up from Natsu I wandered through the hallways looking for class 1B. Finally after I will admit a bit too long I thought I found my classroom. Hearing voices from the inside I went in and let my eyes go over the students. Taking note of some obvious quirks straight away I got excited. Not as excited as I got when I saw the gravity girl that I helped, or helped me in the exam. Taking a seat near her I looked through the class again, wondering what we would be doing on our first day. I know there will be orientation, but after that I have no idea.
Before I could really start to think about it, or have a conversation with the others Vlad King entered the room and internally I was freaking out. 'That is clad king the blood hero, he can crystallize his blood and have it do whatever he wants.' While I was busy nerding out he looked over the students before him ''Welcome everyone to class 1B. I am Sekijiro Kan, or Kan sensei to you. Most of you will know me as the pro hero Vlad King. Normally today you would have your orientation and that would be it. However as this year the principal is determined to have class animosity between 1A and 1B you will be joining your sister classs in a quirk aptitude test after the orientation.''
Hanging on his every word until the word test came around, like most others I wondered what it would be. I only knew that Natsu was in class 1A, with the girl called Kendo or so I assumed as so far the attendance hadn't been done. Hearing the others mumble about the test that would be coming up for that day and if it would count for anything in their overall grade I wondered the same. Vlad king spoke up again and I listened closely. ''The aptitude test does not count towards your overall grade for the semester, no matter what anyone says to you. Also please note that Shota Aizawa, or Aizawa sensei is rather harsh in his words and teaching methods. Some of you may know him as Eraserhead. Even if he threatens to expel you the final decision lies with me. Remember that. Now for attendance, I'll call your name as I expect a decent response. We are the number one hero school for a reason. Introductions will come later.''
For myself coming to the conclusion that Vlad sensei looked far more intimidating that he truly was, towards his class at least. I got called as first for attendance after that I followed the attendance, but couldn't make heads or tails for the order in which we were called. ''Izuku Midoriya… Present Vlad sensei.'' With a nod Vlad king continued working down his list. Ochako Uraraka, Momo Yaoyorozu, Shoto Todoroki, Kyoka Jiro, Fumikage Tokoyami, Koji Koda, Mina Ashido, Tsuyu Asui, Mezo Shoji, Kinoko Komori, Neito Monoma, Kojiro Bondo, Manga Fukidasho, Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu, Ibara Shiozako, Nirengeki Shoda, Kosei Tsubaraba, Yosetsu Awase and Togaru Kamakiri.
It was rather a long list to keep track of and I know I'll forget a few names before the orientation has even finished. As I was thinking this I wondered how Natsu would be doing as Vlad sensei his homeroom teacher was very strict. That and I know that Natsu has a big problem with authority when he thinks it is being taken too far. Shaking myself from my musings I found that there was what looked like a tracksuit on my desk and the instructions came to change into the gym uniform first before heading to the auditorium as after that we'd be doing that test. Going along with the others to the locker rooms I changed into my new uniform, once again wondering what today would bring.
Third person POV
Both classes arrived more or less at the same time to the auditorium, although it had to be said that out of the two classes 1B looked to be the more at ease one of them. A quick "What are you doing here Deku?'' Was met by a quick glare from Natsu and a chop to the neck from an orange haired girl. While a ''What are you looking at 1A?'' Was met by a glare from Izuku and a slap from Tetsutetsu. Along with a murmured 'That's so not manly'. After that the orientation went smoothly as both classes kept both troublemakers as far apart from one another as possible. Already fearing what it would turn into if they let it go. Especially since 1B had been warned that the principal wanted to keep the animosity between classes to a bare minimum.
Izuku and Natsu gave each other a nod and a grin, glad that they got to somewhat compete against each other, while being in school. That and seeing Bakugo get chopped in the neck was always fun. For Izuku he had already sighed a few times at Monoma, most specifically the mindset that the blonde seemed to have. That as long as it wasn't 1A it was deemed inferior, but they'd make them see the light as 1B was the best class ever. Simply because he was in it. Izuku hoped, really hoped that that attitude would disappear over time. Or else he might have to start to be the one slapping the blonde. He couldn't promise the slap wouldn't be flame accompanied.
Orientation was over and both classes were being led to the sport fields, Eraserhead walking along stoically, looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. Vlad King on the other hand constantly pointing out important place, or convenient shortcuts to his new homeroom class. Finally arriving at the place where the tests would be taken the two teachers took a stand next to each other and looked at both classes. Eraserhead taking a nod from Vlad as a sign to go ahead he started his tired and visibly annoyed explanation of what the test would entail.
''I know you all took physical aptitude tests at your previous schools, which are hopelessly outdated as the Japanese government still holds on to the not using quirks. That way no one learns what they're capable of and we are every year stuck with delusional wannabe heroes. It is up to us to filter out the unsuitable and so let's get started. Bakugo what was your record in school for the baseball throw?'' With a smug reply of 67 meters Aizawa shrugged. ''Midoriya, yours was 46 meters it says here, now do it again, but this time with your quirk.'' Only for Bakugo to laugh and state that his quirk was useless anyway.
As far as Bakugo knew at least. Surely Izuku had grown more backbone and even thrown words and some punches back to him, the explosive blonde had ciphered them away as weak, not important and dumb. After all who could stand against the might of his explosive sweat. He'd kill all of the weak extras if they tried to get I his way to glory. Izuku on his turn looked a bit queasy from being put on the spot and looked over at Kan sensei, who gave him a nod to go ahead. The green haired boy walked forward and accepted the slightly modified baseball from Aizawa before continuing to the place where he should throw from.
Winding his arm back he planted his feet. Breathing deeply a slight glow could be seen coming from him. Izuku was very much only using his fire as that was by far the least draining mode he could assume. Sure he could have used the sunlight mode, solely the sunlight mode as they were in direct sunlight it would have boosted him. However he was not nearly as accustomed to that mode as to his fire. A green glow began to concentrate on his hand palm and Izuku shifted his stance Finally his eyes snapped open and he threw his arm forward. ''Concentrated palm of the fire dragon!'' What seemed like a small but powerful explosion of green fire came from the palm of Izuku's hand. In fact what had happened was that Izuku had focused the same firepower that he would normally use with a wing slash of the fire dragon into one palm. Meaning normally two decent to large sized ribbons of high powered green flames had been combined into one volatile burst of energy.
Finally the smoking ball seemed to be over the apex of the launch it had received and started to come back down to earth. After what felt like a long time Aizawa looked at the device he held in his hand and except for a raised eyebrow didn't show anything. Holding up the device to let the others see the result of Izuku's throw, which was 4,6 kilometers. Causing the students to gape and Izuku to look elsewhere slightly embarrassed by the looks that were given to him. Bakugo tried to storm over to the green haired boy. ''FUCKING DEKU, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, HAVE YOU BEEN FUCKING WITH ME, I'LL EXPLODE YOU ALL OO..'' Which was the exact moment that Aizawa erased Bakugo's quirk and immobilized him in the capture cloth he carried as weapon.
''You'll explode nothing, except for the time you wish to remain in the hero course. Now that the example has been given line up everyone. First test is simple 50 meters sprint. Ida, Asui, you're up.'' From that moment they went in pairs for the test. The notable pairs were Ida and Asui as they were the first, coming in with 3,04 seconds for Ida and his quirk Engine. While Asui came in with a respectable 5,58 seconds for her quirk Frog. Natsu and Izuku raced each other coming in with a time of 3,67 and 3,70. Of which Natsu was the faster one. Todoroki and Sero. Todoroki won that one with 4 seconds flat with most of the time used to create the initial ice slide, while Sero came short after with 4,1 seconds having used his tape to reel himself in. Honenuki and Tokage, coming in tied, while one slid over softened ground and the other flew her separated parts over in 3,85 seconds.
Bakugo was once again not happy as his time had only been 4,13 seconds. Landing himself somewhere high, but not nearly as high as he thought he should be. This trend seemed to continue for the other tests. Some people tied for the seated toe touch as Mina was ridiculously flexible and Tokage could literally split needed parts. The repeated sidesteps was the only test that Mineta excelled in as he bounced off of his hair balls. The grip strength was rather different as the that won that test was Yaoyorozu having made a jaws of life set that clamped that machine till it was broken, followed by Shoji with his Dupli arms. While Izuku was not taking his tests he was writing in his ever present notebook, while Natsu was egging on his fellow students to catch up. Not because of any ill intent, he literally yelled that he wanted to have a good spar and for that they needed to become stronger. If they wanted to save people they needed to be faster, more flexible and whatnot. Izuku secretly thought that he seemed like one of those motivational speakers from around the 2000-2010 era. 'Just do it!' Or something like that might have been one of the more resurgent memes over the years.
Aizawa on the other hand was frustrated with both Natsu and Izuku. Neither of them showed the power they had had when they had taken down the zero pointers. Why were they holding back? It wasn't logical it did not make sense and after the long distance run he was fed up with it. Only one test remained, the baseball throw and he would use it to expose the two slackers. ''Dragneel you're up for the throw.'' Only moments before once again having instilled fear into his students reminding them that this was no fun and games. This was lives and that he would expel the lowest scoring student from the hero course. The pink haired boy walked up to the throwing plate and he thought that he was the final student and go out with a bang. Especially after the infinity score from the gravity girl. That he in his head had already called floaty more than once. The cannon shot that made the 4 kilometers and whatnot for myriad of other scores. Taking a similar technique to Izuku he build up his fire. However his fire was orange and build up in a spinning orb in his right hand, while he kept the baseball in his left hand. The moment that he tossed up the baseball Aizawa struck. His hair flying up and his eyes a glowing red, thinking that this should be it. No more fire and force him to use his true power. Only for nothing to happen. The concentrated orb of fire was launched after the ball and exploded a bit up ahead.
As the ball once again came down Eraserhead didn't notice. He was wondering why nothing had happened. He knew that he eyes didn't work on mutation quirks, but this had to be an emitter type. ''Dragneel see me after class, now Midoriya, again!'' With Natsu looking rather confused as to why the teacher wanted to see him after class Izuku walked up to the plate again. The green haired boy went for the same technique as before and about when the concentration of energy was where he wanted it to be Aizawa struck. Once again his hair flying upward and his eyes aglow. However the reaction was not nearly what he expected to happen. The flame energy that Izuku had stored in the palm of his hand was no longer contained by the emitter part of his quirk and sought the way of the least resistance out of the place it was in. It exploded outwards in a ball of emerald green fire, burning Izuku's jacket and shirt off of his body, breaking a few bones from the energy that rushed past it and a cry came past his lips.
The green haired boy was mostly unharmed otherwise as the mutation part of his quirk had given him great resistance to fire, even in his hair as it was part of him. Now bereft of clothing on his upper body, cradling what looked like a broken hand he looked over at his teacher. Only to be shocked by the sight he saw. Natsu was sitting on top of Eraserhead, crackling with lightning and fire was dancing around his fist as the fist was aimed squarely at his teacher's face. ''WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING, YOU CALL YOURSELF A TEACHER?! EVER THOUGHT JUST TAKING SOMETHING AWAY COULD BE DANGEROUS, YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT?!'' The moment the fire had escaped Izuku's grasp Natsu had inhaled and taken the fire into himself to save the students that were lined up where he stood. Bakugo's laugh had been silenced by Natsu as he punched him straight in the face with a lightning and flame covered fist, before launching himself at his teacher and tearing into him verbally.
In the meantime the girls who had been scared by the huge fireball had started to look at where they thought would be the charred body of their year mate, only to find him standing there slightly burned. Sweating and slightly burned, showing off all the muscles that Izuku had built over the year of intense training. Finally as Vlad king overcame his shock at what had happened with his student he locked his gaze on his fellow teacher, who was still lying in the dirt with a student on him. Throwing out his blood he pushed the two aside and solidified the blood. ''Aside from the cursing, I too would really like to know what is going on Eraserhead. Give me one good reason for me to not request you being fired immediately for endangering students!''
Coughing out the stupidest reply came from Eraserhead that he could have given. ''They were being illogical not using their full potential. Just to soften the blows for the others, or how can you grow when you don't know where you start from.'' Fire seemed to flash in Izuku's and Natsu's eyes, while Vlad king prepared to throw the solidified blood with Aizawa in it on the ground. Only for Izuku and Natsu to speak simultaneously. ''Did you even consider how much energy and stamina something like that uses, we had more test to do than one!'' As this was going on they hadn't noticed the figure that had been looking over the entire test to see what these classes were made off.
All Might POV (bet you didn't see that coming)
I was looking over the two new first year classes and I have to say I was impressed by what I saw. If all the new heroes would have the same attitude as some of the ones I have seen today I wouldn't feel so bad about having to pass on the torch. However I need to be sure of who I want to pass it onto. So far both young Dragneel and young Midoriya seem like the prime candidates, but they might have a way to go. Something still seems off about Natsu though and I don't mean how they seemed to know my old master.
The two seem to be holding back in the amount of power they use, but still give it their all at the same time, for which I can only say that that's smart. After all when you hear you have 50 miles to run, it simple won't do to sprint the first 10, only to be out of the race for the next 40. Finally they're about done and maybe then I can ask about how they seemed to know master Nana, or how she would have responded to some of the things I have said and done. I got some hints yesterday, btu I didn't really understand most of it.
The ball throw was up and I was looking forward to young Dragneel's attempt, only to notice Aizawa attempt to erase his quirk and fail…. That should only happen when it is a mutation type, but with the fire it really doesn't seem like one. From what I can see Shota is about as stumped as I am. I can see him writing, but not looking to clear. Now up is Midoriya and I get interested all over again. I mean I saw his opening shot and the distance it went, so I was curious for the follow up. That was until the explosion, I wanted to rush over, but I doubt that would end well and I saw it all unfold. The hit into young Bakugo's face. The knee landing on Shota's chest, the raised fist near his face and the look on Natsu's face. There was anger, but I could see the eyes constantly turning to see if Izuku was okay.
For that I was glad, it meant that the anger did not truly control him, or so I see it. It was mostly righteous anger in name of his friend. I saw Vlad get in between the two of them and I heard the stupid answer from Eraserhead. Facepalming I started walking to the principal's office, there would be words about this and perhaps a view not from one of their homeroom teachers would be needed.
Third person POV
The anger and pain in one case were very close to the surface still and they growled from their earlier outburst. Vlad King tried to get them to read the two, to see what was going to happen. One thing that the blood user didn't expect was the two boys looking at each other and giving one another a nod. Both grabbed a ball and took their stances. ''You wanted to see what we could do, fine, but if it goes wrong it's on your head.'' Both boys closed their eyes, Izuku's hair got lighter and a glow seemed to once again come from his body. Natsu's hair seemed to move and had sparks moving through it. ''Holy sunfire dragon mode, Lightning fire dragon mode!'' The two spoke clearly and loudly, taking confidence from each other. Bakugo started to come back to his senses and saw both boys taking another stance. Both boys started to yell their move name at the same time. ''BRILLIANT FLASH OF THE LIGHTNING FIRE DRAGON, HEAVENLY STRIKE OF THE HOLY SUNFIRE DRAGON!'' Both balls got launched by the two boys, one akin to a comet rushing through the air and the other seemed like a projectile from a laser rifle. ''Now I am going to take Izuku to Recovery girl and there's nothing any of you can do to stop me.'' Natsu stated as he was already leading the still shirtless Izuku from the fields into the building.
As they were walking a few tears fell from Izuku's eyes, his first day at U.A. hadn't exactly gone as planned and now he would have to face the music at home, depending on what Recovery girl would be able to do. As they made it to the nurse's office Natsu knocked on the door and immediately went in, not even waiting for the okay to enter. The old lady looked at Izuku and was already starting on her you should be more careful rant. ''I told you to be careful and no…'' Only for Natsu to barge straight into her and get vent his frustration. ''Tell that fairytale to Aizawa, what was he thinking erasing a quirk he knows nothing about, only because he thought Izuku was holding back. What was the idiot thinking, who does he think he is?''
One thing that didn't happen often was that Recovery girl didn't know what to say in any situation really. However that was the moment that she had had no come back to whatever had been going on. She simply took Izuku's broken and burned hand and planted a kiss on it. Seeing the kid sag with relief from the pain and what looked to be exhaustion on his face. She wondered what Aizawa had been doing for that matter. Normally she saw this kind of exhaustion with third years who were pushing themselves for their final exams. Nezu would hear about this, she was getting on in her years and this was not how she was going to go out.
She was about to ask Natsu to explain further on what he had meant when he had interrupted her, only for her question to not leave her lips as Sekijiro Kan entered the office. A worried look on his tusked face he looked at the two students. ''How are you two doing? Yes I mean you too Mr. Dragneel. You seemed ready to kill in Midoriya's defense.'' Natsu looked at the blood hero and looked at Izuku, trying to find the right words. ''I'm fine, nothing happened to me and as for willing to go far in Izuku's defense, yes I am. He's my best friend, my brother in all but blood.'' Izuku wearily opened an eye and nodded along with Natsu's words. ''I'm fine now Vlad sensei, just very tired. Natsu's my best friend, like he said a brother in all but blood. I'd –yawn- do the same for him. What about Aizawa sensei?''
That the boy asked about the teacher from 1A surprised most people in the nurse's office except for Natsu, who simply sighed. Only Izuku could worry about the teacher that put him in the infirmary in the first place. Natsu shrugged, Recovery girl sighed and Vlad King looked very angry. ''He's fine, bit out of breath, put Mineta on probation till the sports festival, send everyone else home. However I think you'll find a few of them at the gates. As for what's going to happen to him, we'll let Nezu decide. If I get my way he'll be on probation and reevaluated as a teacher. Perhaps worse…'' Izuku looked at the tall man and shook his head. ''Please don't sir, I know it's not my place to say anything, but I don't think he meant to harm me.''
The look that was given Izuku at that moment screamed 'nope it's not your business stay out of it.' The teacher shook his head and sighed before turning around and going to the principal. Recovery girl ushered the two boys out of the office and hurried along to the principal as well. Natsu and Izuku moved to the main gates where they found Uraraka, Kendo, Ida and a few others asking if Izuku and Natsu were okay. Saying they were just fine, but a bit tired they kept talking about the tests as they went home.
That's where I am going to leave it for tonight. Please review, tell me what you thought. I'm still very much undecided on the pairings, though I have been thinking on it. For now it looks like Izuku will get OFA, in one form or another. Next time we will be going over the first hero basic training and whatever happens. Seeing as it's unlikely I'll be able to get another chapter up before the holidays I wish you all happy holidays, whichever you celebrate and a happy new year.
Snowfire out.
