The Brother's Adventures in the Maze

The moment they ran out of the hidden tunnel and ran out its the open, the Trio felt the ground shaking beneath their feet. They saw puffs of smoke and dust erupting from the ground. They heard clanking around them.

To their shock, they saw the blades spinning.

"Run guys!" Minho shouted. He managed to squeeze through the gaps. The brothers followed him. But the blades began spinning faster, blocking their ways.

Mihno made it through another line of blades but Thomas and Edward didn't make.

"Run! Quickly!" Thomas urged his brother to get through but still the blades kept spinning and they couldn't make it through to Mihno.

"Come on guys!" Mihno shouted. "You can do it!"

Thomas and Edward finally made it through and they caught up with Mihno.

"Let's get out of here!" Thomas shouted. They dashed around a corner and across a plain of stone with huge walls towering along the sides.

"We're almost out!" Mihno said.

Suddenly the earth quaked beloved their feet. They stopped and nearly toppled. Looking up they saw slaps of stone rising from the ground.

"What's going on?" Edward asked.

"I think...I think we've activated some traps," breathed out Thomas.

Just then they slaps of stone begin to fall towards them.

"Run!" Mihno shouted. "Come on! Come on!" Quickly they made a run back the other way, feeling smoke and dust flying into their backs as the rising floors were closing in on them.

"It's get closer!" Edward shouted.

Mihno looked to the side and saw a gap which would lead back to the safe alley ways back to the Glade. "Over there! Quickly!"

The Trio made a rush through. But to make matters worse, the walls of the gap were closing in on them. They would be trapped and killed if they didn't get through.

"Quickly!" Mihno made it through first. He managed to crawl through.

"Go!" Thomas urged his brother to get through. "I'll be right behind you!"

Edward began crawl through the closing gap.

Suddenly a loud screech rung the air.

Turning his head, Thomas turned to see a Griever. The strangest thing was it didn't look exactly like the Griever from the other night. It had three longer tails, four legs and pincers like a scorpion.

"Oh shi...!"

The bio-genetic monster roared.

"Get out of here! Don't come back for me!" Thomas shouted after his brother.

"What...?" Edward turned his head. His heart jumped when he saw Thomas rushing off in the opposite direction, the different Griever chasing after him. "Thomas!"

"Edward come on!" Minho pulled his hand. "We gotta go! There's nothing you can do for him!"

Edward turned to Mihno. He tossed him the key. "Take this key! Take the others to the entrance and get out!"

"What?"

"I can't leave without him!"

"Edward no!"

Edward crawled back through the gap just as the gap closed, hearing Mihno screaming "No!" Quickly he made a dash after his brother.

Thomas began running as fast as his legs could carry him. The strange Griever was closer in on him every second. Looking back, he saw hooks attacked to chains being launched right at him. He managed to dodge them like a fish trying to dodge being caught. He struggled to keep up the pace with the ground erupted smoke and dust around him and shaking like thunder in a cloud.

He tried to lead the Griever into a trap to get squished but for some reason this Griever was too clever, too smart, too...human. It was if it had the mind of an intelligent human. Just then Thomas saw a rising platform.

Just like the ones Edward encountered.

Quickly he got an idea. He jumped and grabbed the ledge of the rising tower of stone just before the Griever could get him. He saw more labs of stone rising. He knew how he was going to get out of this mess. Looking back down at the Griever, to his shock he saw it's pinchers turning into pick axes. He began climbing up.

With no choice, he took a deep breath and sprinted and jumped. He made it to the top of the other tower of stone just before the Griever, who had reached the top could get him. Scanning ahead, he saw more sections of the maze where the alleyways were clustered.

I'll lose them in there. He thought.

Leap again to another tower, he finally managed to make to the top of the wall and he began running alongside it.

Down below, Edward saw his brother so high above and the Griever chasing him. He was horrified. Carefully avoiding all the traps, he managed to follow his brother back into the clustered inner section of the maze. His heart kept racing with every second he saw the Griever closing in.

Thomas ran on top the maze walls, finding gaps to leap across. Still the Griever remained on his trail. Just then he saw his younger brother running below looking at him.

"What are you doing Edward?!" he shouted down.

"Having your back!"

"Why didn't you run?!"

"Where you go I go!"

Thomas heard the Griever roaring behind him. When he turned back, he noticed its eyes without irises were focusing down on Edward. It was going to get him. It leapt down after him.

"Ed look out!"

"Uh?!" Edward jumped and he fell back as he saw the Griever landing right behind him. It tried to stab at him with its tails but he rolled to the side out the way. He began to make a dash for it.

"Ed!" Thomas spotted some vines and with great valence he leapt and he swung down the vine to the ground below.

Edward tried dock and diving around corners but the Griever was too fast. As he ran, he thought off the craziest idea. He spun around and shouted: "Stop!"

The Griever stopped right in front of him. He felt its disgusting breath float into his face.

Edward felt his mind turning inside out. What he had been thinking these last few nights was true. He could command the Grievers but why.

"Edward!" Thomas shouted. He had just turned a corner when he saw the Griever right in front of his brother. He turned white watching his brother's control over it. When he came closer, the creature sensed him and roared.

"Thomas wait!" Edward held out his hand. "Stop!"

The Griever stopped and stared at Edward again.

Thomas glued his feet right where they were but kept his eyes glued to his brother. "How...how are you doing that?"

"I...have no idea,"

Thomas didn't do anything. He observed his brother still looking into the eyes of that monster. The slightest movement from its tails made him turn. He saw harpoons cheating out. "Look out!"

Edward looked to him in confusion but just then saw three harpoon-taped tails flying at him. He ducked just in time and did a somersault roll under the creature. Thomas pulled him up onto his feet.

The Griever roared at them. They made a sprint together around the corner, running along a straight pathway.

"I was so sure I could control it!" Edward cursed himself. "I really thought...!

"Less thinking! More running!" Thomas shouted. "Is Mihno safe?!"

"Yes! I gave him the key!"

They went right into around another corner but it was a dead end. They tried to turn back but the Griever was in the way. They were trapped.

Thomas pulled is brother shined him as it came closer, roaring out its saliva.

"You were stupid to think you could control me Edward!" an electronic voice emitted from inside the Griever. The brothers' fears only intensified every second . "You were wrong!"

"Who are you?!" Edward spoke out, coming out from behind Thomas, unafraid.

"I am merely a voice speaking through this Griever! I'm quite surprised you tried to control me! Surprises me you couldn't remember doing it before,"

Edward was becoming more scared by the minute.

"Pity for you. I've made my own versions. Now where were we? Oh yes. I was about to kill you and your brother,"

The Griever with its mystery speaker's voice raised its tails and pincers. Thomas pushed himself and its brother back. They were back against the wall. As he pressed his hands against the wall, Thomas felt something on the wall. He traced his fingers around a strange gap. He realised his hand laid on some sort of stone slab.

"Any ideas Tom?" Ed asked, clutching his free act hardly.

"Uh...maybe..."

The Griever prepared to strike.

Quick as he could, Thomas pressed the stone slab on the wall. The brother's felt themselves behind being twirled around. The wall behind them was spinning around and the part of the floor along with it. They found themselves on the other side of the wall.

"Woah! What just happened?" asked Edward.

"Run!" Thomas pulled him away. "Come on!" They made a sprint for it.

"But Tom! We don't even know where to go!"

Thomas realised his brother was right. Looking ahead as they were running, he saw passageways leading out. "Go right!" he said.

"What?" Before Edward could get an answer, he was pulled right into a corner. "Now left!" his brother pulled around another corner.

"Tom! What are you doing?!"

"I don't know! It's just my instincts!"

"Well whatever they're telling you...trust them! It's gotten us away from that Griever so far!"

Newt, Chuck, Gally and the others waited patiently for Minho and the brothers. Chuck was beginning to get really worried, especially feeling and hearing loud quaking from far away. Newt rubbed his shoulder to comfort.

"Do you think they'll be back?" Winston asked Newt.

Newt couldn't answer.

Just then Minho appeared. Everyone cheered including Newt. His joy was cut short when he realised the brothers weren't with them. "Where are the brothers?"

Minho didn't answer.

"Minho where are they?!" he didn't mean to sound pushy.

"I don't know. We found something but then traps were activated. During our escape, we got separated by a Griever. It chased after Thomas and Edward ran after him! I wasn't able to get through to aid them!"

Chuck became afraid. "Well...can't we go in after them?"

"They don't know the maze Chuck. They won't make it. I'm sorry," Minho apologised deeply.

Everyone became sad. They didn't want to believe it but Minho was right. Chuck began to cry so Newt gave him a gentle hug.

"You don't have to be," a voice surprised them.

The group turned around to see Thomas and Edward standing right behind them.

"Guys?" Newt breathed.

Chuck instantly ran into Edward giving him a tight hug which he returned and Thomas gave him a pat on the back. He looked towards Newt who was so pleased to see them; he came forward. Minho came forward too along with Zart, Winston and everyone else. Gally just stood back glaring, watching as the brothers were given pats and applauds from everyone.

"How in the hell did you guys find your way out so easily?" Minho asked. "You don't know the Maze like I do,"

"It was mainly Thomas," Edward said.

Everyone stared at Thomas with wonder.

"I have no idea. I just...trusted my instincts," Thomas shrugged his shoulders.

"'Trusted your instincts?'" Gally drew a little closer on him.

"That's enough," Newt stopped him. "What's important is that you three are back safe and sound. Well done Thomas,"

Thomas actually found himself smiling a bit at his words. Newt just sent a secret but small smile back at him.

"How did you guys get away from that Griever?" Zart asked wanting to bring up the story.

"It's a bit of a long story. But it's mainly thanks to Thomas," Edward answered.

"This Griever that we encountered...was different," Thomas's words made everyone stop.

"What do you mean it was different?" Newt asked him.

"It had three tails, pincers and there was a voice," Thomas's words were really making everyone think he had gone insane. "We think...we think there might have been someone talking through it, someone who was controlling it. Whoever did it wanted to kill us,"

He saw the nervous look on his brother. Even he felt so nervous too. Chuck felt so scared for them too that Edward held him closer like he was another part of their family.

"What did you guys find?" Chuck asked.

"We found a passageway which that gadget from the Griever opened," Edward explained as they began walking back into the Glade. "It was a key,"

"We think it could be a way out," Thomas sounded hopeful.

"It's must be where the Grievers go during the day," Minho also informed.

"Woah! Woah!" Chuck breathed out frantically. "Are you saying you found the Griever's home and you want us to go in?"

"Their way in could be our way out Chuck," Thomas said.

"Or there could be a dozen of Grievers on the other side!" protested Gally, antagonising as always.

"Will you just shut up?!" Edward ranted not turning to him. "We're getting closer than ever,"

"Closer to what? Getting killed because of you and your brother?" Gally snapped.

Edward turned on him in a flash. "Close to getting punched in the face in your case!" he snapped pointing a finger at him.

"Listen here Greenie! You two have been here four days! I've been here three years!"

"Well maybe that's a sign you need to do things differently!" Edward crossed his arms. "I haven't see you do anything but hide behind these walls all the time like a coward,"

Instantly Gally flew a punch in his face. He stumbled back.

"Hey!" Thomas punched Gally back. "No one does that to my brother!"

Before either of them could fight, Newt pushed himself between them. "You guys need a time out!"

The boys stopped but they sent fiery glares at each other. Edward's nose was bleeding so Frypan gave him a cloth to wipe it with.

"No matter how much we might hate each other, it's important that we all stick together!" Newt announced. "We have lost a great deal of boys over the last few years because of fear. Let's not lose anymore to unnecessary conflict!"

Gally was unmoved by his words.

"Guys! Guys!" It was Teresa. The boys turned and saw her rushing towards them.

"Teresa...what is it?" Edward asked.

"It's Alby. He's awake. But he wants to speak to you and Thomas alone,"
