Hi everyone, I'd like to introduce you to my new story idea! We all know how the film ended, but what if Judy had given up her badge earlier, if Nick had ended up in jail, if the weasel had escaped for Judy or, Nick and Judy had failed to provide evidence against the Mayor? These questions and many more are answered in these short alternate versions of the film.
Chapter 1: What if Judy had given up her badge after escaping from the Jaguar?
More than a dozen police cars arrived at the location Judy had notified, including Chief Bogo himself, who decided to personally check how Judy's case was going. He was himself curious as to whether the evidence that the rabbit supposedly has was worth any attention. Personally, he didn't want to believe that Judy could find anything meaningful for the case, but he remembered their agreement all the time. Either she would find the otter or she would give up the plates. When the commandant got out of the car he immediately approached the rabbit and fox pair, who were tied up with lilies that wrapped around their entire bodies from head to toe.
"Hm...This promises to be interesting" the commandant sighed as he pulled from his belt a small, short but steel and sharp bayonet that the policemen wore on their hip bands in case they had to defend themselves. Bogo with one agile and powerful movement cut the llians that caused them to be intertwined, whereupon they both fell involuntarily to the ground. Judy, thanks to her reflexes, landed on her flexible legs while Nick fell to the hard platform on his back in pain.
"Ok Bunny, show us what you found" communicated Bogo as he watched the rabbit help for Nick to get up from the platform.
"Yeah sure, I'm already driving" replied Judy as Nick rose from the ground. The rabbit slid out to the front of the policemen heading with them across the wooden footbridge to go a floor up the road to where the cuffed jaguar was.
"I think this taxi driver and the missing otter have something in common," Judy said as they headed for the scene.
"What do you mean Hopps" replied Bogo curiously.
"I think they... The taxi driver and Otter...I think they've gone feral"
"Feral? You've got the years wrong, predators haven't gone wild for centuries" replied Bogo indignantly. For several hundred years predators and still animals have lived in harmony and prosperity. Since then, there have been no cases of predators going wild. In those days, it was downright impossible.
"I thought so too, until I saw..." Judy said stopping in front of the layers of foliage. She waited for everyone to get closer, then swept the leaves aside showing for the Commander and the other police officers an empty platform for a lift, which surprised Judy and Nick who was standing behind them.
"What, he was here after all!" exclaimed a surprised Judy as she stepped out into the middle of the platform. She looked around him, even leaned out behind him, but there was no sign of the predator!
"A feral Taxi Driver?" asked Bogo.
"Yes, exactly like that! He was chasing us..."
"Or maybe when you're a rabbit it's just that every predator is dangerous?" asked Bogo, then he turned away from Judah returning to the police car.
"Wait a minute! I wasn't the only one who saw him! Nick..." Asked Judy as Bogo laughed derisively turning back to the rabbit pointing at the fox.
"Did you seriously think I would trust a fox?"
"Why not? It's a witness in a case so..."
"You had two days to find Mr. Wydralski, but you couldn't make it. Therefore as was our agreement...sheet" replied Bogo putting his hand in front of Judy's face giving the signal for her to hand over her seal signifying her function as a police officer. At first Judy thought it was some kind of joke. She hoped that the chief would soon retract his hand and that he would say something, but he was still waiting with his hand extended towards her.
"But boss..."
"Blah" was the only word Bogo uttered. Judy dropped her gaze to the fox, Nick stood beside the policemen completely confused by the situation. He wasn't smiling ironically or sinisterly like he had at the beginning of their acquaintance, but you could also see from him that he wasn't going to support her. He was like the other policemen standing next to him. He looked at her, making it clear to her that he didn't really care about her fate. Judy had no choice. Her heart ached over this, she was distraught that she hadn't made it after all and would have to give up her dream job she had worked several years for. She took a deep breath, then unfastened the gold signet ring signifying the police from her chest. She looked at the cold expression on Bogo's face, who was not about to give up on his decision. She took one last look at the badge, then placed it on Bogo's paw.
"Great...pick up your stuff tomorrow, brigade! Let's get going, leave these two here, they'll be fine " said the commander walking away from Judy. A moment later, the whole campaign of policemen went downstairs getting into their cars. Judy was left alone on the platform. Small tears began to fall from her eyes, which Judy tried to keep from falling from her eyes. However, hiding her emotions was something Judy was weak at. She couldn't hide her feelings. When something was wrong she showed it to everyone. Nick continued to stand in the same spot and watched the rabbit. He felt a little sorry for what had happened, but was afraid to speak up in any way until then.
"Ekh...Carrots, I'm sorry..." Nick said quietly, approaching Judy slowly.
"Leave me alone, it's your fault!" replied Judy sobbing at the same time. Although she didn't particularly want to hurt the fox, she knew that much of the blame was lost on him. It was because of him that she had wasted so much time that could have been better spent.
"I didn't mean to..."
"What didn't you want? You deliberately slowed me down as much as possible, because of you I wasted so much time, I could have managed it much better! My parents were right about the foxes..."
"Aaa, so now the problem is that I'm a fox right?" asked an angry Nick when he heard the counter-intuitive reference to his race.
"No, you misunderstood me..."
"Then how should I understand it? Because to me the message is obvious! Does the fact that I am a fox immediately mean that I must be evil?"
"No, of course not..."
"Look, I'm sorry it happened what it did, but you can't put the blame on me for you failing at something," countered Nick. Judy didn't reply. She knew he was partly right. She was the one who had taken him on to help for her, she didn't have to do that, yet she had made that mistake. Now, however, it was all over. She could go home to start packing. Without saying anything Judy turned her back on the fox getting into the nearest carriage that was coming. She got in alone, Nick stayed on the platform watching the rabbit drive off towards the metropolis.
"Oh shit...a pen!" suddenly remembered Nick realizing that he still hadn't received it. He couldn't catch up with Judy now, but he hoped the carrot would stay with her.
The next day
Judy arrived at the police station first thing in the morning to collect her things from the small office she had been given at the end of the corridor on the ground floor. She had already packed her flat herself and was ready to go. She hadn't brought a lot of clothes, so the packing process wasn't terribly long at all. At the police station it did not take long either. After 15 minutes her office stood empty, the only things there were a desk and a photocopier. She did not even have time to get used to this place and she would have to leave it for good. And it was all because of that fox, who slowed her down as much as he could so that she could not fulfil her task. And he succeeded. Judy was released. Rabbit, when he had packed all the items wanted to make sure he had taken everything. She paged through the cardboard items one by one until she finally came across her carrot pen with recording capabilities. She played the last recording that was on the tape. It was that message from Nick bragging about his illegal industry and his unpaid taxes. As she played it back an idea popped into Judy's head. It was very rude, but all in all she didn't have much to lose anyway. She put the pen in her pocket then left her former office with a cardboard box full of items. She then headed to the reception desk where a walhauser was sitting as always with a box of doughnuts next to him.
"Hello Judy, sorry about that," said the cat when he noticed the rabbit. By now everyone in the police department probably knew about what had happened. This bet was quickly spread around the police station.
"Well...the important thing is that I tried. If not here then maybe somewhere else...can you grant my one request?" replied Judy.
"What's that?"
"I need the tax roll of Nick Wilde."
"Unfortunately I can't ..."
"One last time, please..." asked Judy. Walhauser couldn't help but agree because of her sweet big eyes. She looked so charming and convincing that one had to be a great ignoramus not to fall for it. He sighed, then bent down deep into his desk to open one of the drawers. When he opened it, he flipped through several envelopes then handed one to Judy.
"Here you go "
"Thanks!" replied Judy taking the file and then headed up the stairs. She intended to go to Commander Bogo. His office was the largest and most udocumented of all the rooms. When Judy entered it, there was Bogo sitting in his comfortable chair, who was surprised to see a rabbit.
"Hopps, I told you..."
"I know Mr. Commander. However, I would like to report a criminal one last time" replied Judy handing the file to Bogo and a pen.
"What is this?" asked the commandant.
"Nick Wilde's tax file. He hasn't reported anything and as part of my business I have his statements recorded."
"Wait a minute, isn't that the fox that was with you yesterday ?" asked the commandant, to which Judy shrugged her shoulders indifferently moving away to leave the pen on the commandant's desk. Once she had done that she went once more to the reception desk to grab her items. She was ready to leave the police station one last time, her bus would be along in a moment.
"Delicious ice-caps!" exclaimed Nick as he saw the hamsters coming out of their work. They were always buying ice-caps, which was why it was such good business for them. They always took every last piece and they always took the same amount, which meant there was never a shortage of money. As Nick was handing out the ice-caps and collecting money he was approached by two policemen who got out of a police car.
"Strange, the police don't usually drive here" thought a puzzled Nick, but he kept going about his business.
"Good morning, are you Nick Wild?" asked one of the officers making Nick swallow his saliva hard.
"Yes...yes why ?"
"You'll have to come with us" replied the other officer, then he and his colleague took the fox by the shoulders leading him to the police car.
"Gentlemen, this must be some kind of mistake! I haven't done anything wrong!"
"You haven't reported any taxes paid, you need to come with us" replied the policeman putting handcuffs on Nick. Fox was wondering what he had done wrong that came to light when a bus drove past them with a familiar face on it, It was Judy who waved at him with an ironic smile.
'I hate rabbits' sighed Fox heavily as on his was bundled into the police car.
Thanks for reading the chapter, I hope you'll stick around for more! If you have your own idea for an alternate ending feel free to share in the comments and I'll try to write a chapter about it ;)
