What if Judy hadn't said in an interview that it's because of genes that predators go wild?
Author's Notes: The author of the idea is (Guest), thanks for this great idea!
Nick and Judy were talking next to the commandant, who was answering questions from reporters who were harassing him. Although the conversation was going on, Nick could see and feel that the rabbit was terribly irritated by the situation.
"You're nervous aren't you?" Nick asked.
"And how! I've never taken part in an interview before" replied Judy in a trembling voice. She was getting goosebumps just thinking about standing in the Commander's seat and answering questions.
"How to do an interview, lesson one. When you get a question answer it with a question, for example: Excuse me, was it a difficult mission? Was it difficult? Yes, it was a bit " said Nick, to which Judy laughed feeling a bit more relaxed.
"You know, I think we should go there together. We did it together after all," said Judy.
"Well, am I a policeman? No, well I'm not " replied Fox.
"Good thing you mentioned that " remarked Judy reaching her hand into her back pocket taking out a card scroll.
"You know, I've been thinking about this for a long time and I thought it would be nice to have a...partner!" added Judy unrolling the card and handing it to Nick who didn't even hide his surprise. This is the first time someone has offered him such a serious role and the first time he has been offered a job. He felt surprised, but at the same time also happy that Judy wanted him as a partner. With a slow movement of his hand he took the card from the rabbit reading its contents in his mind.
"Here, if you don't have anything to sign," Judy added placing a carrot shaped pen on the card. It was the pen that Nick's records were in. It was free. He already had the pen, he could now go home and do what he had been doing so far. But was it worth it ? Is it a good thing? Going back to his old life wouldn't provide him with anything new, and he now had a chance to change his life.
"And now Judy Hopps is coming on stage" the commander called out, which got the attention of both of them. Judy indicated with a motion of her hand that she would be back in a moment, then marched off in front of the microphones. By this time Nick had made his final decision.
Judy approached the microphones and the stress caused her to have no idea who to pick first to answer the questions. The plethora of questions and thoughts left her confused.
"Do all animals belong to the same species?" one of the journalists asked. Judy began to gasp aimlessly and turned towards Nick, who showed her his hand to remind her of his "question for question" rule.
"Did they belong to the same species? No, they didn't belong," Judy replied.
"Then who are these animals?"
"Who are they? They are all representatives of predators"
"So only predators go wild, correct?" asked one of the journalists. Judy could not find an answer to this question. She turned towards Nick. He didn't see her, he was busy writing something on the card he had been given.
"Are they just predators? Yes, so far yes."
"Then why is this happening?"
"Why? It's most likely because of their..." wanted to answer Judy, but she paused. She was planning to mention their DNA, but when she saw Nick, the fox who had helped her she refrained. She remembered the trauma he had gone through as a child just because of his race. She didn't want to cause harm to him, she didn't want to hurt him in any way. Soon Nick finished writing on the card and looked at Judy with a smile on his face. This completely transformed her, she couldn't hurt him. She didn't want to.
"We don't know why this is happening, we will continue to investigate this phenomenon and do everything we can to discover the cause of the wildness" she replied to a calm Judy. Her words triggered another avalanche of questions that rained down on her.
"No more questions for today, Constable Hopps has to go" said Bellwether seeing that Judy was not coping with the crowd. She quickly pulled her off the stage and led her to Nick who was waiting for her with a card and pen.
"Well done, see you later" Bellwether said goodbye as she ushered the journalists out of the room along with Bogo. Although there were only two of them, they were giving advice to the group of journalists who were trying to push them through to ask more questions for Judy.
"Oh...it was a tough interview, so many questions, I didn't say anything about you or us..."
"You did pretty well for your first time," replied Nick with a slight smile taking out a card from behind his back and then handed it into Judy's hands. She read its contents, then a smile appeared on her face. He had done it! He had signed a contract to become a police officer!
"Wow, I'm so proud of you Nick!" exclaimed Judy gleefully jumping up in her seat with joy. Nick laughed at her day, but also found it cute in his head. Sam had lost the childlike instincts Judy had in him.
"You're acting like a little girl," laughed Nick. Judy got a little more serious at that comment, but still didn't hide her excitement.
"Ah, even how glad I am that I straightened you out!"
"You straightened me out?" asked Lis in surprise.
"Well, yes. If I hadn't made you go wouldn't you?" quipped Judy.
"Hehe, you're quite a clever bunny" laughed Nick appreciating Judy's astute observation.
"I already know that...now let's go, we need to feel the success!" replied Judy.
"Where do you want to go?"
"You know...I know one cool place "
Nick and Judy, taking advantage of the fact that they had the rest of the day off, went to a nearby restaurant where they had lunch, talking to each other about various topics. They took a seat by the window, as from here there was a nice view of the park, which was on the opposite side of the building they were currently in.
"You know, even though I became your work partner, I still don't know how a police officer works, you'll have to show me this and that"
"No problem, just...you'll have to..." interrupted Judy getting up from her chair and focusing her gaze on the glass. She saw through the window the same guy who had wanted to steal a bag of flower bulbs a few days before.
"He stole the bag of bulbs again..." thought Judy when she saw the red-headed weasel on the opposite pavement.
"Nick, do you know him?" asked Judy quickly showing her hand to the weasel.
"Hm? Of course I know him! That's Dan!" replied Nick also looking at him.
"Let's follow him," said Judy getting up from her chair, then started towards the exit.
"And the bill for dinner? Carrots!" exclaimed Nick, but Judy was already busy giving chase. Nick sighed heavily, then called the waiter over to him. He took $100 out of his pocket and handed it to the man.
"Here, you don't need the rest," the fox added, then joined Judy. They followed him from across the street following the cars so that he didn't notice them. They wanted to see where he was getting to and for what purpose. However, the plan backfired when one of the drivers used his horn on them when they accidentally entered the lanes on red. The chase began.
"We're chasing him!" ordered Judy starting to run towards the weasel who had started to run away. Nick and Judy had the advantage that there were more of them and they could split up when the weasel might escape at the intersection. Running with the bag wasn't helping him either, as Nick and Judy were getting closer and closer every second. The fugitive ran as hard as he could, but he couldn't outrun the fox and rabbit, who managed to pin him against the wall as he wandered into a dead end.
"Shit! "sighed the weasel when he saw that his escape was over. He turned around when he saw the familiar figure of Nick behind him which caused him quite a stir.
"Bayer? And what are you doing? Why are you helping out for that stupid rabbit?"
"That stupid rabbit is my partner in the police. " replied the fox seriously to which Weasel almost burst out laughing when he heard this.
"What are you talking Bayer, are you a dog? Since when?" laughed Dan, but not for long as Judy pulled a gun in front of him.
"Why do you need all those flowers? Speak up!" ordered Judy.
"In the sense of larks?" asked Weasel as he swallowed hard on his saliva from the fear of seeing the barrel of a police gun in front of his nose.
"Harkers?" repeated Judy.
"Well these flowers, they're larks. They're called different things, but I call them larks..."
"Larkspur...Nick, that's the same name Mr. Wydralski said..."
"Wait wait wait... Larkspur...are those purple flowers?"
"Yes! Do you recognise them?"
"Ah, now you do! Larkspur, I knew I'd heard that somewhere! They can be poisonous, they can cause effects just like wildling" replied the Fox. Judy, after a brief thought, understood everything. She again drew her gun to the level of the weasel's head aiming straight at his head.
"Now tell me, who are you delivering these Flowers for?"
"I can't say...it will kill me..."
"If you don't tell I'll put you in jail" replied Judy. Weasel was still resisting, he had his doubts whether he should talk about it. He made up his mind when he saw Judy unfasten the handcuffs from her belt.
"All right, all right now! Be that as it may...Dude's name is Drake, he's based in the north part of the metro, but be careful he's not a nice guy...he's not a nice guy " replied Weasel.
"I've said what I know, can I go?"
"Of course not!" replied Judy putting handcuffs on Weasel's hands, who was not happy with the way things were going.
"That wasn't the deal!"
"Relax, it's only for the duration of the case, then we'll see what happens to you" replied Judy as she finished cuffing the man.
"Central, this is Constable Hopps, we have a thief on leafy street, please come in " She communicated over Judy's walkie-talkie.
"And what are we going to do ?" Nick asked.
"We'll pay Drake a visit" replied Judy with confidence.
