"If this was just them breaking the radio and forgetting to tell anyone. I'm going to kill them." Mary grumbled under her breath, pulling on one of her father's old utility belts. "I mean it. I'll slit their throats. I'm an assassin. I can do it."

She was wearing full black (a mixture of one of Barbara's own Batgirl suit and Tim's Robin costume (he was tiny when he first started out) with her father's utility belt from his time as Robin and one of Damian's hooded capes. Curtsey of one Alfred Pennyworth the Third.

She had a feeling he had been planning for this, or something along this line. Usually she wouldn't be suspicious, but he had just pulled this stuff out a cupboard.

It was ironed and everything.

"Reformed assassin, Miss Mary."
"Barely, and…relapses happen."

"This should do it." Alfred said, handing her a domino mask. "Master Jason's." he added. Mary took the mask, gently feeling rubbing her fingers along the material.

"Is this a good idea Alfred?" Mary asked, looking up at him. "I mean, I know I need to do this, but…he's going angry isn't he? I mean training is one thing, but this..."

Alfred smiled softly at her, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. "Tell me, Miss Mary. Did your father ever tell you how he became Robin?"

Mary shook her head. "No, no…he never mention it."

"Master Jason? Master Tim? Master Damian?"

"No. None of them did…" Mary said, furrowing her eyebrows. "I, just thought Bruce just plucked them from-nevermind…" she mumbled, biting her lower lip. "How?"

"After his parent's death, Master Bruce took Master Dick in." Alfred started. "Now at the time, Master Dick hadn't known that Master Bruce was Batman."

"So every night, when Master Bruce thought Master Dick was asleep. Master Dick would sneak out of his bedroom window and hunt for his parent's killer." Alfred said, Mary looking up from the mask at Alfred.

"One night, Master Bruce caught him as Batman," Alfred continued. "And decided to train him after Master Dick figured out he was Batman."

"And that's how he became Robin." Mary breathed out.

Alfred nodded. "The same could be said for almost every other Robin or Batgirl or anyone who falls into this life. Master Bruce never wanted anybody to follow in his footsteps. They chose to take matters into their own hands. Not because of disobedience, but of what they believed to be right."

"I have seen you fight and train Miss Mary. You have talent and passion. I know, you are capable of great things. But I would not push you to do something, you do not chose yourself." Alfred said gently. "If you believe you can do, I will support you. I will do the same if you do not."

Mary glancing down at the mask. "Dick's gonna kill Jason for being late, isn' he?" she said shakily, a smile playing on her lips. Alfred chuckled. "I believe so."

Mary sighed, running her fingers though her hair.

The first person who had been kind, truly kind to her, besides Damian had been Jason. A lot younger than he was now, freshly resurrected. It had been years ago, a memory that been struggling to resurface, due to the implants in her brain.

But she remembered him, at little foggy, but a memory. Her first memory of him. One where she was really herself and not Aibant, not that she knew it at the time, not that they were much different anyway.

She remembered the ground hard and unforgiving. It had been him throwing himself in front of her, taking a whip to the face. Standing tall in front of her. Talia had tried to pull him away, but he didn't budge. Planting himself firmly in front of her, like a great cursing oak tree.

Taking the beating, meant for her.

He had been kind, in the short time she had known him. He had been a taste of the outside world. The spirit of rebellion. Angry and bitter, but kind and gentle.

"You like the suits…Don't you?"

Maybe it was time she took a page out of Jason's book. Mary smiled, tucking some hair behind her ear, sliding on the mask.

"Alfred, I'm think I'm going to need Zeta Tube access and coms."

'Recognised Unknown Z013' said the computerized voice, when Mary materialised into the Titan's Tower. "That's weird." Mary mumbled, her whole stomach flipped as she appeared.

"First time Zeta Tubing can be a little uncomfortable." Barbara (or Oracle now that she was in the 'field.') said from her com.

"Noted." Mary replied, walking out of the Zeta Tube. "Whoa." she said, looking round. She was in a large room, filled with various tools a strange objects. But the thing that shocked her most were the bright colours. Really bright colours, she was pretty sure she had been temporarily blinded.

"Okay Mary, you are in currently in the Garage-"

"Seriously? Looks more like a carnival." Mary said, pacing around the room. At least, from what I've seen" she added, tapping a few key's on the computer. Nothing.

Oracle snorted. "Yeah. Kay, the main rooms are on the fifth floor, better check those out first."

"Got it." Mary said tapping her com, slowly maneuvering her way out of the cluttered Garage towards the lifts. Pressing the fifth floor button, she waited in silence as the lift passed each floor. "Oracle?"

"Yes."

Mary swallowed glancing at the numbers, she was on the third floor. "The Titans have their own security system right?"

"Yes."

Mary licked her lips. Fourth floor. "Wouldn't the system have alerted them if anyone Zeta Tubed in? Like the Batcave's?"

Silence, static buzzed though Mary's ear. "Yes."

Mary nodded, walking to the side of the lift door. Drawing her sword from the hilt on her back. "I don't think it's a faulty radio." Mary muttered, the sword handing loosely by her side.

The elevator dinged.

Fifth floor.

Walking into the Titan's main room, was like the beginning of every horror movie. Bad, flickering lights, beanbag chairs that popped, its contents spilling everywhere.

Windows cracked, some even shattered, cupboard door's hanging open and off by their hinges. Tilted paintings.

Holes in the walls.

Mary half expected two twin's to be behind her, saying 'Shall we play a game?'

Mary shivered, trying to shake the thoughts out of her head. "Well they were definitely attacked." she said for once eager to keep talking, bending down pulling one of Damian's Batarangs (Birdarangs) out of the wall.

The lights flicked dangerously.
The power seemed to be out.

Suddenly she deeply regretted the horror movies that she and Bruce watched without Dick's knowledge.

"Entire place is trashed. Clear signs of a fight." Mary said, venturing further down the halls. "Bedroom's look okay, think the assailants came through the same way I did, or maybe one of the windows. Ah," Mary said walking into the computer room.

All the screens were smashed to bits, the wires ripped straight out, with a faint smell of a smoke. "Computers completely destroyed, no wonder you couldn't get a transmission in." Mary reported, opening up the bottom.

Wrinkling her nose as the smoke warfed out. "They burned everything." Mary said, closing the bottom door. "No sign of the any of the Titans. Do you know who was in the Tower that day, beside Robin?"

"Robin, Raven, Beast Boy and Blue Beetle were in the last in the Tower. Starfire and Cyborg both were out, Starfire with the Outlaws and Cyborg at the Star Labs in Chicago."

"Okay. Three of them are superpowered, makes it bit harder." Mary mumbled to herself, relaying information that she had learned. "Can Raven, Beast Boy and Blue Beetle's powers be turned off with inhibitor collars?

"Yep, why?"

"How much power do you think the collars need?"

"Lots especially if there three metahumans. Why? What you thinking?"

"The lights are flickering, most of them are off, but if this is a League building. It should have state of the art security systems and back-up generators." Mary thought aloud, getting up walking into the main room. "So…why aren't they on?"

"Okay…I get your drift."
"My drift?"

Oracle chuckled. "Give me a minute." she said, her fast typing echoing though the earpiece. "Yep, the Tower's using a massive amount of power…from below the building. I don't think they left the Tower."

"Their underneath us."

"You sure this is the best way?" Mary whispered, crawling through the vents. Finally reaching the garbage shoot.

"Yes, if we're right and I'm sure we are, they should be right under the building, the shoot will get you there quicker."

"God, it stinks." Mary grumbled, sitting up, her legs swinging down. All she needed to do was jump. Somehow that seemed easier said than done.

The shoot looked like it just faded into nothingness.
An endless void.
Empty.
Dark.
Dingy.

Dead.

"You okay?"

"Yeah." Mary said quickly. Taking a deep breath, Mary leaned over, trying to figure out the best way to land soundlessly and painlessly. She couldn't think of one yet. "Any news on Jason?"

"Nothing yet."

"Got it." Mary said, standing up, adjusting her domino mask.

She took a deep breath and jumped.

The good thing about jumping, you got no surprises. You were just falling, and there was only one destination when you were falling.

Down.

How you landed was where the skill came in. Falling was easy, it was landing that was hard.

Her shoes were specifically designed to absorb shock, making the landings less painful and quieter. But from the height she jumped from, pain and noise was still an inevitable thing, unless she was very careful.

Hopefully she was.

Just a few inches away from landing. Mary stretched out her legs, holding herself between the small enclosed walls.

It was a good thing the garbage shoots were small, otherwise she would have made a rather loud 'bang' noise. Dropping lightly onto the floor. Mary unscrewed the vent screws, pushing out the crate. Before carefully sliding into a small hallway.

When Tim led the Titans a few years ago, he created what they knew as 'the under-underground lair'. But after Starfire had taken over she had closed it up due to safely hazards.

To be fair, during and after its construction, most of the Titans had been asphyxiated and nearly drowned in it.

All in all, her decision was good.

Good thing: There were not many places to run when you were underground.

Mary glanced around the empty hallway, being careful not risk getting caught by a camera.

Bad thing: Tim, possibly one of the smartest people alive, designed it.

Edging a few feet backwards, Mary lightly tapped her earpiece. "Oracle?" she whispered. "I'm here."

Mary nodded, carefully edging around the first camera, using the shadows to aid her. Usually she would just destroy it, but she'd rather not set off alarms.

"You were right. Somehow, they found the under-underground base and put it back online. There's a few cameras, haven't seen any guards yet." Mary quickly peeked around the corner again. "No sign of the Titans." she reported sliding into the next hallway.

"Okay." Barbara said, the sound of bat's echoing out in the background. Alfred was still on the line, listening silently. For some reason, that fact alone was comforting.

"I'll see what I can do about those cameras. Don't destroy any of them."

"I won't."
"And Mary-?"
"Yes."
"Be careful."

Mary paused. "I will."

The place was unnaturally quiet. It made the hair on the back of her necks stand up. Silence was something that she was slowly beginning to dislike.

She liked noise now.
It meant she was home.
Home.

She left home.

Guilt hit her like a wave crashing onto the shore. Dick would be so disappointed in her. She was directly, knowingly disobeying him. An outright show of disrespect. Rebellious nature. She didn't listen to him. She broke all her rules.

She didn't listen to him.
She didn't listen to him.
That was bad.
That was very bad.

She was very bad.

Mary unconsciously touched her cheek, almost feeling Talia's hand against her cheek. Blood rushing into it. Splattering all over.

Her heart sped up.

The woman's and Slade's harsh words echoing in her ears.

Soon enough, more voices joined in Cain, Natas, hundreds of them. Echoing in her ears.

'You disappoint me, Aibant.'
'Useless child!'
'God, I wish I could kill you.'
'You are nothing.'
'You are no one.'
'You are nothing.'
'Useless.'

Nothing.
Nothing.

"Nothing." Mary whispered, looking up at Slade. His sword against her throat, a thin line of blood already dripping from her neck.

"Nothing." he replied, his face morphing into her fathers. Dick Grayson. Dressed in his Nightwing suit, his mask off.

His eyes were cold.

He drew back the sword.

Gunfire filling her ears.
