Bad temper

September 29 1985

"Wake up. She's going to be here in an hour".

Yakko opened his eyes, he could see his dad staring at him as he was waking up.

"Do I have to", Yakko groaned.

"Yes, you know how important this is".

He moaned as he pulled himself up out of bed. He always hated when his parents would wake him up for his weekly trip to his aunt's house. Yakko would love it if he had fun there, but that wasn't the case. He was going to her house to get lectures on math and writing. Learning was never fun for him.

All he wanted to do at the moment was go right back to sleep, but he knew he couldn't. Giving out a sigh, he pulled the covers off of himself and hopped out of his bed.

He ran up to his dad.

"Help me get dressed please", Yakko asked.

"What's the magic word?" His father asked, smirking slyly.

Yakko sighed hard, he hated when his father would say stuff like this. He wasnt a baby.

"Please", he muttered.

Yakko watched as his dad went over to his closet. He opened the door and leaned inside. As his dad looked in his closet, he took off the blue shorts he was wearing, stepping him down into his underwear.. he put the shorts in the corner by his bed.

When his father came back out, he was holding a red shirt, and a pair of grey sweatpants. Yakko sat down on the floor, he knew the drill.

"Lift up your legs", his dad commanded.

Yakko did as he was told, he lifted up his left leg, his dad slipped the pants up his leg. Once the pants were secured on his leg, he put his right leg through the hole and repeated the same process.

Yakko got up off the floor, once he got into a standing position, pulled his pants up. He felt pleased with himself, he was getting better at putting on his pants by himself, without much of his fathers assistance.

"Great job, son," His dad said as he clapped his hands. "Do you need help putting on your shirt"?

"No, I think I can do it," Yakko told his dad.

Yakko grabbed his shirt on the bed, lifted his arms up, and slipped it on. Yakko grinned, he had never dressed almost fully by himself before.

"Great job, kiddo!!" His dad praised him. "Soon, you won't need my help getting you dressed anymore, as you can do it yourself".

Yakko grinned, he felt very pleased with himself. For a moment, he almost forgot about having to go to Arenias house.

"So what do you want for breakfast?", His dad asked him.

"Pancakes"!

"Alright, I'll get right on with that".

Yakko loved pancakes. If his parents offered to make him breakfast, his answer would almost always be pancakes.

His dad smiled as he started to exit the room.

"Make sure to use to bathroom before you come downstairs, son", His father hollard to him.

"I will", Yakko responded.

"And wash your hands", he added.

Rocko Warner walked into the kitchen. Pulling a pen out of his pocket, he circled the day, September 29 1985. He then put the pen back in his pocket. He sighed, knowing today was not going to be an ordinary day.

He walked over to the stove, opening the cupboard above. He pulled out a pancake mix. He then opened the cupboard below the stove and pulled out a small pan, placing it on the stove.

Rocko wanted to be considerate for his wife, knowing how much she hates doing dishes. In the back of his mind, he knew she wouldn't appreciate a full sink of dirty dishes.

Being generous, he pulled a mixing bowl out of his hammerspace instead of getting one from the cupboards. He was lucky to be a toon, having the ability to pull into his hammerspace and create anything out of nothing. He rarely used his hammerspace though, he thought it was more reasonable to use the stuff he had, rather than create new ones.

Besides, it's convenient, Rocko thought.

Though he understood that he could potentially catch diseases if he used his hammerspace too much. But Rocko wasn't too worried about that, for he knew the white gloves he was wearing would protect him from any unwanted illnesses.

As he was pouring the mix into the bowl, he saw his son enter the kitchen out of the corner of his eye. Yakko pulled out a chair, and pulled himself onto the seat.

Rocko turned to his son, giving a slight frown, should he tell him?

He pulled a spoon out of his hammerspace and started to stir the mix. He turned on the stove, and poured the mix onto the pan. This would give him time to talk with his son about what would be happening today.

"You know Yak", He told his son," today is not a usual day".

"What do you mean?", Yakko said with a confused expression on his face.

He pulled out a chair, directly across from Yakko, and slumped down into the chair.

"Well, what I mean is, there's a lot more that's going to happen today than just going to Arenias house".

"What do you mean"!?

"Well, what I mean is, you're not going to Arenias house just to learn".

"But it's Sunday, I always go to Auntie Arenias house on sunday".

Crap, he ain't understanding this!!

"Well uhh.. what I'm saying is, that..well….to put it straight..".

Rocko hesitated for a second..

"Your brother is being born today," he finally said.

Rocko saw his son's jaw drop when he said that. Yakko had been so excited to see his little brother be born since his wife Ellenia had first told him about it.

"Really", Yakko asked.

He nodded his head.

"My brother is being born today!! he's being born today!! When is he being born? Is he being born soon? Where's mommy? Are we going to the hospital? When are we.."!!!

Rocko put a hand over his son's mouth.

"Shh, you gotta be quiet," he hissed. "Mommy is still sleeping. She needs to rest".

Rocko removed his hand slowly from his son's mouth. Yakko tilted his head slightly. He cocked his eyebrow, his expression was blank.

"Why?" Yakko asked.

"Why what?"

"Why does mommy have to rest?"

Rocko was silent for a second. He looked down at his confused son, who was staring up at him. He sighed, why did HE have to deal with this much pressure?

"Well,er...She's tired," Rocko stuttered.

"Why can't I go to the hospital with you Daddy"?

"Look kiddo, mommy and I need privacy at the hospital. You'll have a great day with Auntie Arenia and I'll call when..".

He smelt something, looking over, saw black smoke coming from the pan.

Dammit, I forgot about the pancakes!!

He rushed over to the pan, reached into his hammerspace and pulled out a spatchula. He flipped the pancake, it wasn't too burnt, but it looked overdone.

Rocko heard Yakko laugh at his antics, he could feel his cheeks going red in the face. He took deep breaths, trying to remain calm. He didn't want to lash out at his son, he didn't want to ruin this day for him.

Hopefully, he'd probably too cheerful and nieve to notice anyway, Rocko thought.

Yakko punched his fork into the last piece of pancake on his plate, before shoving it into his mouth. His pancake was delicious, it tasted tostier than usual, but he didn't mind.

"Thank you Daddy", Yakko said, patting his full belly.

"You're very welcome, son," Rocko said to his son. " why dont you put your plate in the sink for me real quick".

He hopped off the chair, and ran over to the counter. He could just barely reach his arms high enough to put his plate in the sink

Yakko then heard someone enter the kitchen, he knew who this was.

He ran to his aunt, giving her a big hug.

"Hi bud", she said to him,"excited to be a big brother"?

"Yes", He replied, he was wearing a big grin on his face.

"OK, we better get going", Arenia said, looking up at Rocko.

"Alright, I'll see you later".

Yakko held onto his aunt's hand as they started to exit the kitchen. He was starting to get more excited, he was going to have a little brother by the end of the day.

"Can't wait to see my brother!!" Yakko yelled as Arenia opened the door to the warm, sunny day outside.

The door closed behind them, he walked with his aunt to her car. She opened the front door for him, and Yakko climbed inside. He pulled himself into the car seat, it was fairly easy. He didn't struggle as much as he used to.

Arenia came into the car shortly afterwards, closing the door behind her. She buckled her seatbelt and then she faced Yakko, he expected she would do the same for him.

"Today I want you to buckle your own seatbelt".

Yakko was suprised by his aunts command, he had never buckled his own seatbelt before. Usually it was one of his parents, or in this case, his aunt.

"But I don't know how", Yakko said.

"Here let me show you", Arenia grabbed Yakko's seatbelt.

"All you have to do is pull on the strap and stick this metal thing into the buckle".

Yakko felt happy, his seatbelt buckled. But then she pressed a red button undoing the belt.

"Now you try"?

"Why did you do that"!?

"Go on, Buckle your seatbelt bud".

"I don't want to", He protested," I want you to do it".

His aunt groaned, she slumped her shoulders down in frustration. She put her hand over her face.

"No, I want you to do this," Arenia commanded

"No, don't wanna do it".

"Yakko, buckle your seatbelt!"

"No"!!

"Yakko, now"!!!

"No, I don't want to"!!

Yakko couldn't take it anymore. He burst into tears, kicking his legs. He didn't want to buckle his seatbelt, all he wanted to do was to go to his aunt's house and play with his toys.

his aunt then reached over his arm over to buckle his seatbelt. Yakko quickly calmed down, happy now that his seatbelt was on. He noticed his aunt's face had turned red, she was squinting her eyes tightly, glaring down at him.

Yakko shrunk into the seat, he knew that he must have messed up.

"What's wrong, auntie?" Yakko asked slowly.

"It's you!!" His aunt scolded," why do you always have to be like this!?"

"What do you mean"?

"You just always whining, and whining, and carrying on. I asked you to do a simple task, and what do you do? You cry about it!!"

Yakko didn't know what to say, his aunt never talked to him that way before. Not even his parents got that angry with him. He put his hands over his eyes, sobbing into his hands.

Arenia immediately felt guilty, what had she done? She didn't mean to talk to her nephew like that, she just felt so frustrated that he didn't follow her directions.

Her sister Ellenia had told her before about her bad temper. She knew it was a problem, but sometimes, she just gets so angry that she just, well, lashes out.

It ran in the family, both her mother and father used to lose their temper to her and her sister all the time. Sometimes, her dad would get so mad, that he would pull her hair and...

No, don't want to think about it!! Arenia stopped herself. The past is the past, I can't change it.

Snapping back to reality, Arenia slowly pulled her nephew's hands off his face. Yakko's face was soaking wet from tears. She felt even worse, she'd never seen her nephew cry like this.

"Please don't cry Yakko", she said," I am so sorry, I didn't mean anything I said.

Yakko sniffed.

"What do you mean", he said in a small voice.

"Look, auntie has been having a really hard day..".

oh great, now I'm making excuses!!

"And I shouldn't have taken it out on you".

Arenia noticed that Yakko had stopped crying, though tears were still dripping down his face. He was staring up at her, his teary eyes glowed in the ray of sunlight.

"I-I'm sorry, auntie," Yakko whispered softly.

"No, don't be sorry," She reassured her nephew. "I'm sorry for what I've done. I should've never yelled at you".

Yakko was slowly starting to calm down. He was wiping the tears from his eyes.

"Am I going to do math at your house aunti..".

She cut him off.

"No, we're going to have a fun day today".

She saw her nephew smile, which made her happy. Arenia was glad to know that Yakko was still cheerful, even after what had happened a minute ago.

"Can I play with the toys in the basket?'', he asked.

"Of course, bud," Arenia said."You can do whatever you want. I promise you that today is going to be a great day".

I hope.

Yakko aligned cars up across the floor, this was his favorite thing to do at his aunt's house. Normally, he would have to do practice math and writing before he could play, but for some reason he didn't have to today.

While Yakko was thrilled he didn't have to do boring work, he found it strange that he didn't have to do it today. He thought it might have something to do with his brother being born.

But he wasn't curious enough to find out for himself, so he got back to playing with his cars. He pushed the small Matchbox cars across the hardwood floor, he was having a lot of fun.

He looked up at his aunt sitting on the couch, she had a frown on her face.

Curious, he ran over and hopped on the couch to snuggle with his aunt.

"Hey bud," Arenia said as Yakko laid his head against her leg.

"Why are you sad?" Yakko asked.

"Who me, I'm not sad".

"But you look sad?"

Arenia put an arm around his shoulder. She pulled him closer to her. Yakko layed his head on his aunt's lap.

"Sweetie, I'm happy you care about me, but I'm fine," She told Yakko." Thanks for asking, but I promise you I'm happy."

"Ok, Auntie," Yakko said, he felt slightly embarrassed by his actions.

He was about to go back to play with his cars, but then he remembered what his mom had told him the other day.

"Auntie, I have a question".

"What is it bud?" His aunt asked.

"What is it like to be a big brother"?

Arenia paused for a second.

"Well bud," she said," I think that's a question for your mom".

"But she told me to ask you".

Arenia rubbed her hand against his head, Yakko smiled, he found it soothing. He stared up at his aunt, waiting for a response.

"I was the oldest in the house," His aunt explained to him. "In fact, your mom is actually my sister".

"She is?" Yakko asked, sounding shocked.

His aunt nodded her head. Yakko couldn't believe it. He didn't know his aunt was his mom's sister.

"Auntie, What was being a big sister like?"

Arenia hesitated for a second.

"Being the oldest comes with responsibility. Think of yourself as a role model for your brother, it's your job to look after your sibling, and make sure he's safe".

Yakko thought about what his aunt had told him. He was going to be the one to look after his brother. He thought it was his parents job to take care of him. Yakko was starting to think that being an older brother was going to be harder than he thought.

"Do you think I'll be a good big brother"?

He saw his aunt open her mouth to reply when there was a knock at the door.

Arenia got up and headed towards the door, Yakko followed behind.

He saw his aunt open the door, on the other side was his grandma, wearing a purple sweater and jeans. She was holding a large purple purse in her arms.

"Grandma", Yakko screamed as he wrapped his arms around his grandma.

"Well, hello Yakko", his grandma said," it's so nice to see you again".

Yakko was very happy, he hadn't seen his grandma since last Christmas.

His aunt showed up after him. She also gave his grandma a hug, she looked happy to see her.

"Hi mom", Arenia said," what are you doing here?"

"Ellenia's husband called me, he said the baby was born".

Yakko grinned, he looked up at his grandma.

"Is baby brother born", Yakko asked his grandma.

Yakko's grandma looked down at him with a smile on her face.

"Yes, he is," She told him. "That's why I'm here. We gotta get going to the hospital".

Yakko was excited and nervous at the same time, this has been the moment he'd been waiting for, for the past few months. He couldn't wait to meet his little brother.

They were pulling into the parking lot of a giant, concrete building. on the building was a large sign that read, Toontown Sacramento - general med. Driving through the guest parking lot, she managed to find one parking spot. she pulled her car into it immediately

She got out of the car first, followed by her mom, Jemma Peter's. She came around to get her nephew out of the car. She opened the car door and unbuckled his seatbelt. Almost immediately, Yakko jumped out of the car, she knew he was very excited to meet his brother.

She knew they were late, they were supposed to be here half an hour ago. Her mom had shown up late, and of course Traffic had to be horrible that day.

She grabbed onto her nephew's hand and they started walking down the parking lot.

They entered the hospital together, Yakko kept tugging her along. She desperately wanted to tell him to stop, but she didn't want a repeat of what happened earlier.

"Hey mom?" Arenia asked," mind taking Yakko for me?"

"Of course, come one dear",

Arenia handed Yakko off to her mom, she needed a break from him. Getting her Toon registration filled out was a pain in the ass, she always hated doing it. There was probably going to be a long line at the check in counter.

This is gonna be a long day, isn't it?

Yakko walked with his grandma to a sitting area. Yakko sat down in one of the chairs, his grandma sat next to him.

He saw his aunt standing by a large desk talking to a badger, dressed in a white gown.

"What is Auntie doing?" Yakko asked his grandma.

"Oh, she's just getting the registration filled out".

"What's that?"

"Well you see, she's signing us in so we can see your Mommy".

"Why?"

"Well um..you know what, let's wait to have this conversation when your older".

"Why?"

There was a moment of silence

"Well sometimes, its best to be a little older to understand something, you know?"

Yakko didn't understand what his grandma meant. Adults seem to never tell him anything.

Though he was always intrigued by his grandma's words, she would always tell him stories about when his mom was his age. He would always listen to her, despite not knowing what was being said to him most of the time.

Yakko then looked at the purple bag next to his grandma.

"What's in the bag?" Yakko asked out of curiosity.

"Some gifts for your brother...and for you of course".

"What are they?"

"It's a surprise, you'll know soon".

Yakko rolled his eyes, he always hated surprises. He hated that he had to wait to find out what it is. He hoped that he would receive a new Hot Wheels car or any sort of vehicle toy. Yakko loved vehicle toys.

I wish I could get it now, He thought to himself.

Then, his aunt came over to where they were sitting. She was holding some papers in her hand.

"Alright", Arenia said," are you ready bud"?

"Yes", Yakko yelled as he jumped out of the chair, nearly tipping it over.

His aunt grabbed onto his hand, and they started walking toward a set of double doors.

They walked towards a set of elevators, his grandma followed behind them.

"Yakko, do you wanna press the button", Arenia asked him.

He nodded his head, he stood on his toes, barely reaching high enough to press the button.

Buzzing sounds came from the elevator, the doors opened up a second later. They got inside the elevator.

"We need to go to floor three, do you know which button that is"?

Yakko thought back to his math lesson, remembering their lesson on numbers. He looked at the panel, recognizing the number right away.

He pressed the number three on the panel, a lot lower to his level this time.

"Great job, dear," his grandma said cheerfully. "Your so smart, Yakko".

Yakko grinned, he loved being praised by adults. It always made him feel better when he was down.

Half a minute passed by and the elevator doors opened up. Yakko was so excited that he ran out of the elevator before his aunt and grandma could even take a step out of there.

"Slow down bud!!" Arenia hollard," I know you're excited, but you don't have to run!"

Yakko stopped halfway down the hall, and waited for Arenia and his grandma to catch up. He then grabbed onto his aunt's hand and continued walking together. They walked for a while, until they stopped in front of a door. Yakko looked up at his aunt with a huge smile on his face.

"Is Mommy and daddy in there?", He asked.

Arenia nodded.

"Yes, are you ready bud?"

Yakko nodded his head, smiling even bigger. He watched as his aunt knocked on the door.

The door opened, standing there was a tall man, wearing a white coat, plastic gloves, and he had a really big beard.

He hid behind Arenias' leg.

"You must be Yakko", the man said looking down at him," nice to see you again, you've grown up a lot since the last time I saw you young man".

Yakko was confused, this guy knew him?

"Nice to see you again, Dr Verden", Arenia said," Yakko has been really excited all day".

The doctor looked back at Yakko.

"He must be, it's very exciting to be having a little sibling, isn't it?"

Yakko nodded his head, he still felt nervous.

"What's wrong? Aren't you excited to meet your brother?"

"Who are you?" Yakko asked.

"I'm Dr James Verden, I've known you for your whole life".

"How"?

"Hmm", Dr Verden said, putting his left hand below his chin," never mind, you'll understand when you're older".

Here we go again!!

"Well anyway, you must be eager to see your brother about now, aren't you?"

Yakko nodded his head, wearing a grin on his face.

"Well come on in", the doctor said as he opened the door.

Yakko ran inside the room, he saw his dad standing by the bed with a smile on his face. His mom was laying in the bed holding something.

He ran up to the bed, climbing up onto it. His aunt, standing behind him, assisted him up onto the bed. Yakko gasped, his jaw hung open, he didn't know what to say.

He saw a tiny body, cradled in a blue blanket. the infant's head was so tiny, and his face was so pure. His fur was short and thin, revealing some of the pink skin underneath. The baby was fast asleep, breathing softly.

Yakko had never seen anything so cute in his entire life. He stared at his newly born brother for a long time. He didn't say a word, no one said a word. All eyes were on the newest member of the family.

"He's a beautiful child, Ellenia", Yakko's grandma finally broke the silence.

Yakko saw his mom smile. He was slightly confused, who was Ellenia?

His aunt placed her arm around his mom's shoulder. "What's his name, Ellie"?

"Wakko", she said softly," Wakko Warner".

Yakko noticed his grandma had a weird look on her face.

"Really? You let Rocko pick the name again"?

"Hey don't pick on me", His dad smirked, " it's nice, and it rhymes with Yakko. Besides, most of us toons have weird names".

Yakko took no notice to the conversation, he continued staring at his brother. He sort of looked like him, though the baby was much smaller than Yakko thought he would be. Regardless, he loved his brother already.

He said his name to himself, Wakko, Wakko. He thought it was a good name.

"Do you love your baby brother?", his Mom asked him..

He nodded, a smile on his face.

"I do", was his reply.
