Chapter Fifteen
School of Magic
Diana woke up aching the next morning. The price of sleeping in a ball.
She threw the thick cover off and gazed at the room. Light was streaming through the window, and it was rather peaceful.
Noticing the absence of Luna Lovegood, Diana got ready and left the room silently, praying she wouldn't wake the other sleeping girls.
Breakfast was dreary. A sleepy Diana walked through the almost empty hall, but after scanning the tables several times, she had to admit that Luna wasn't there.
"Strange," she muttered to herself. "Though I suppose being strange is what that girl is about."
Says the one who's a witch.
Diana rolled her eyes and sat down. The Ravenclaw table had an enormous selection of food, stretching from bagels to french toast. She snatched a plate of pancakes and tucked in.
She felt a pang of jealousy as she saw Colin and Ginny laughing together at the Gryffindor table. If only she could be with them. But no, instead she got the 'smart house' with cliche bullies and weird girls. Was being in the same house as her only friends enough to ask for?
"Are you ok, Diana?"
Diana jumped as she turned around. It was Luna Lovegood in the flesh, sitting next to her.
"Luna... I... when did you come in?" stammered Diana.
"Oh, I've been here a while now. It's a bit strange you sat down next to me and didn't notice."
Diana resisted the urge to slam her head against the table.
"We're getting our timetables in a few moments," Luna informed her.
Diana looked up at the teacher's table. Sure enough, a miniature wizard in long blue robes was walking down the aisle between the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tables.
He handed two to Diana and Luna.
"Thank you," mumbled Diana.
"Thank you very much, Professor Flitwick!" beamed Luna.
Diana observed her timetable.

Diana had no idea what any of those lessons were, but she did think they were better than Maths or Literacy.
"Wonderful classes," remarked Luna. "Hogwarts is exactly like what my daddy told me about!"
"Your dad went to Hogwarts?" enquired Diana.
"Yes, and he was a Ravenclaw just like the two of us!" said Luna, a little too loudly.
"Well," decided Diana. "Let's head to our lessons, then, Luna!"
Her first day was a blur.
The first lesson, Herbology, gave Diana a keen new interest to plants, but she'd definitely prefer the lessons if they weren't in greenhouses ten times hotter than it was outside. Professor Sprout gave them homework ("on the first day?!" complained Ginny), but it was mild. The only thing they had to do was plant something on the Hogwarts grounds.
Potions wasn't as fun. Diana had heard all about Professor Snape, but she was still surprised and upset when he called her a cocky Muggle-born when she'd got the answer right. He gave them loads of homework, they had to write 22 inches worth of parchment on a lion's heart and its uses in potions.
Charms was taught by the Head of Ravenclaw, Professor Flitwick. He was much nicer than he predecessor, and he didn't give them any homework!
Transfiguration was taught by strict Professor McGonagall. She gave them all a lecture on how Transfiguration is a serious subject and should not be taken lightly. She gave Luna a rare smile when she managed to turn her pin cushion into a needle.
When school was over, Diana felt much lighter. She looked over at Luna in the common room and smiled.
"Want to tackle that lion heart essay together?" she asked.
"I'd love to," replied Luna with a wide smile.
