Chapter - 38

Confrontation

The entire room was filled different pictures of mine! Some were huge and some were tiny! It were in many different outfits! And different hairstyles, too! Even the ceiling was filled with my pictures! And just below that was a bed!

It was just like a Dawn-etorium! (Lame, Ik!)

Was I really hallucinating, now?!

Stupefied, I rubbed my eyes, hoping that it was really an illusion. But, when I opened my eyes, again. It was the same! I was definitely not dreaming!

I entered the room and saw that there were all kind of pictures of mine. How the heck could someone get these many picture of mine?! Looking around, I saw some of Jack's photographs next to mine.

Was it Jack's room...? If it was, then what were my photos doing in his room?!

Wait. There are just too many pics, even when I was in my swimsuit?! Could it be...could it be really that Jack kept an eye on me...? As in, stalking me?! Damn. What's going on?!

Fuck! He stalked me all along and I never even noticed it?! Ha, shame on me!

Just then, I heard the clicking sounds. Hurriedly, I left the room and closed it, behind me. I rushed to my chair and sat down on it.

Jack entered the room, as he said, "Dawn, let's not talk, here." He came to me, grabbed me by my arm and pulled me with him.

Suddenly, I felt disgusted by his touch. I couldn't believe that he could go to such lengths, invading my privacy. I just wanted to yank his hand away from mine and knock him out.

No matter how much kind he was to me earlier, or how sincere his feelings might have been, it didn't make sense to keep hanging around with a stalker who can't respect my privacy and kept an eye on me the whole time.

But I had no choice but to endure it. After all, I wanted to know where he was going to take me. We both exited the room. He took me to an elevator, the door opened and we entered into it. Once we were inside, Jack pressed a button to the first floor.

My eyes wandered to the clock and saw it was nine. My eyes widened when I remembered that today was the solar eclipse at twelve! There were only three hours left for their final move.

I decided to ask as I glared at him, "Jack. Are you related to Team Cosmic? Tell me."

"What makes you say that?" He countered with his back facing me, still holding my hand, tightly.

I reasoned, "You never showed up when Trip and Miette came to steal the statues yet you're at this base, doing everything as you please. I saw you nod to those grunts in the hallway, and they returned it, which obviously meant that you had asked them to arrange that breakfast."

"Your observant skills sure are amazing... you're an officer, after all," he said, chuckling to himself. "I guess, you got it all right. I'm the head of this organization."

"You're lying," I breathed, rolling my eyes. As if, a young guy like you would have any idea or the courage to destroy the world.

He laughed, nervously. "I don't know what you're talking about."

We stepped out of the elevator, when we heard the 'ding' sound. "Don't try to feign ignorance!" I said, feeling angrier as every second passed by.

His grip tightened over my hand as he exclaimed, "It's the truth!"

"If you are, then tell me! Who you are and what is your connection with this evil association!" I yelled, with a sense of annoyance and frustration in my voice.

He whispered, softly, "Dawn... I'm sorry but I just can't. I'm forbidden to do that..."

I sighed. I yanked his hand away and I smiled, mockingly. "Alright, then. Jack, I'm sorry but let me go. I don't know what your reasons are but, I have something more important than that."

He turned around, slightly shocked when I had jerked his hand. He just avoided meeting his eyes with mine. I spun around on my heels. "Jack, I know. A stalker or not, you're a good guy and... I'm sure that you've some good reason that you're doing all this and I'll find it out, soon."

He didn't reply nor did he try to stop me, which I was really grateful for. I looked at my watch, it was almost nine-thirty...which meant that I had two and an half hours left for the eclipse to occur.

I rushed to the elevator and the pressed the buttons, the door opened automatically. I entered it, quickly pressing the highest number of floors.

I had read in a book, once that the rays of the sun will enter the highest floor, directly, forming the energies within the holy ancestral statues, the legendary creatures shall be awaken.

At the back of my mind, I really hoped that Ash and the rest of the gang would join me... But, I'm sure they must be here because they must've tracked me with the help of that earring I dropped. I really hope they are, I thought, clenching my fist.

When I reached the rooftop entrance, I exited the place and rushed through the hallways. I couldn't see any grunts, which meant I didn't have to get into useless fights.

Just then, I entered into huge hall-type area, one wall was completely broken, it seemed like an open area, which they have opened to let the solar eclipse be seen. I started searching for the statues.

"Dawn!" I turned around to see Leaf, calling out to me.

I felt extremely happy to see them, back. She dashed to me and wrapped her arms around me, almost knocking me out of balance. I hugged her back, "Leaf!"

When we pulled away, I saw Ash and Gary standing next to Leaf. When my eyes landed on Ash, my heart felt a sense of relief and a warm feeling engulfed me. I noticed his lips twitching into a smile... I decided to ignore it and looked around, asking, "Where are Drew and May?" It's not the right time to sort out things between me and Ash.

"They are dealing with Miette and Trip," Gary replied.

I nodded, "Oh, alright."

"Pip!" I looked down to see Piplup jump into my arms, with tears in his eyes. I hugged him back with great euphoria.

"I missed you, too!" I exclaimed as I pulled him closer to my chest, rubbing my cheek with his head. "Pip!"

"If you're done with your reunion, then shall we proceed?" Ash asked with an eyebrow raised. "Pika!"

I nodded as Piplup climbed back on my head. Just then, I saw two persons, making their way to us. I squinted my eyes and saw it was May and Drew!

They ran to us and Ash questioned, "Done with those two?"

May shook her head, "Nah, when they saw that only the two of us were going to fight with them, they ran away." She turned to me and squealed, "Dawn! It's so great to see you, again!" She was about to hug me, but was stopped by Ash.

"Do that later, we have more important things to do."

Drew just smiled my way and I returned the smile. He was really like my brother!

We started running again, and searched for the statues.

We quickly found them, placed in a round circular shape. I went to them, and they were all original. It was arranged in the same way Gary had said. The four majestic legendaries surrounding the Celebi. There was some sort of pattern, below it.

"C'mon, let's try to move them, from it's place," Ash said. Just when we were about to move towards the statues, we heard a loud, harsh voice.

"Well, well, not so fast."

We saw a silhouette of a man coming to us from the statues. My eyes widened when that person came into light.

We all gasped, "Cyrus?!"

"Mm, a great shock, right?" He asked with a smirk plastered on his face.

I said, "Wait, I should've known!" I shut my eyes, in regret. "Shit, you had escaped the prisoner, some weeks ago, right?!" Damn, I should've thought more about it!

He was a world-known criminal, who was arrested by the SBI twenty years ago by my mom and her teammates. He was sentenced to prison till death but we had received the news that he had escaped the prison but we didn't think most of it because we were too busy with protecting the statues. Even Ash, Drew and May knew about it, because it was all over the news, television and magazines

That blue-haired man laughed, "Looks like you do pay attention to your surroundings."

Ash said, "I knew that someone like Jack wouldn't have been able to do all this research. It has to be a much more experienced man like you..."

"If you're the one behind all this evil then, why did Jack say that he is the team leader?" May asked.

"You really want me to answer that?"

Ash shrugged, "He wanted to hide himself from the world and make Jack as the responsible one behind this. He didn't want to reveal himself, but since we've reached here, we got to know that Cyrus is the mastermind of Team Cosmic."

I could feel anger rush through me as I said, "How dare you?! You planned to make Jack the one responsible if you did something wrong?! How selfish! I don't know how Jack got trapped into this mess!" Maybe there was a reason as to why Jack was spying on me and I'm sure there's got to be an explanation for those photos.

He laughed, evilly, "You really want to know? I'll-"

"No need, I'd rather hear it from Jack's mouth than you!" I scoffed as I interrupted him. "Move out of our way, we need to stop you from doing this."

"You think, it's that easy, huh? This is my dream! To destruct this entire universe and become the ruler of the this world, with all the legendaries in my control!" He shouted while laughing, venomously.

We looked at him, weirdly. Being insane is crazy.

Drew said, interrupting his evil laughter, "Sorry, but we are going to stop you from accomplishing your delusional goal."

I glanced at the time and it was almost eleven-thirty, now. Shit. We've gotta increase our pace! We need to stop the portal from activating.

The portal would start activating at the strike of twelve and it will be completely open, till the solar eclipse gets over. In that period, we have to move them from it's place or we have to act now and move it.

Cyrus said, with evil an smirk, "I wouldn't be so sure about it, if I were you." He had folded his arms behind his back. He snapped his fingers and suddenly our hands were held by their grunts from behind us. I grumbled as I was about to order Piplup for an attack but I saw that he and Pikachu were trapped in a cage. How the fuck?!

I tried to get myself free from their hold but it was of no use. I cursed under my breath, "Darn it!"

I looked around to see Ash and the rest of our team members were being held, too. Just then, Cyrus came up to me and held my chin, up, saying, "So, this is how Johanna's daughter look like in reality. Not so bad." I glared at him, real hard with my eyes bulging out. "Mm, your anger is the same way as her, too." An evil grin was plastered on his face.

I scoffed, "Yeah, you're right. And this wrath of mine is going to get you arrested just like my mom did." I turned my face, jerking his hands off my chin. I didn't want a filthy man like him touching me.

He looked at me with discontent as he said, "It won't happen because I'm gonna take control of this entire universe, right in front of your eyes. Also, don't worry. I will make you my personal slaves." He let out an evil laugh, again.

Gary said, "Dream on. That's never gonna happen as long as we're alive."

"You cannot be sure of anything, until and unless you see it for yourself," he said with a devious smile.

That man...is just way too ..disgusting! I just shook my head at his words.

I saw Ash say, "I have something to ask you. Why did you call her, here?" He pointed at me. "I mean, isn't she your enemy? What were doing, calling an enemy at your own base?" He raised an eyebrow.

He laughed as he said, "Good question, kid." He walked away from me and stood across Ash. "I wanted her to be present, here! Right in front me, when I would start ruling this world! I want her to feel the pain I suffered from!"

I rolled my eyes. Just enough with his high-end talks, I'm feeling nauseated over here.

The ebony-haired stared at me, as if observing something. I could see a slight amount of concern in his eyes. For a split second, our eyes met. I could feel myself getting flustered under his gaze.

I shook my head. Dawn! It's not the time for that! You're in a very intense situation! Sheesh! Be more considerate of your current circumstances!

Just then, my eyes went to May, who asked, "What do you mean?"

Yeah...right. She wouldn't know.

He laughed, again, sarcastically, this time. Then, he hissed, with eyes showing a huge amount of hatred. He grumbled, "What I mean is, her mother, Johanna Berlitz had gotten me arrested for twenty damned years! I was locked in those damned rotten jails, agonizing over my past! She had totally ruined my plans, my future, my everything! I totally despise her!"

A psychopath.

I spat back, "Oh, please. Don't make it look like you are too innocent, who was punished for no reason. You were a criminal and you had committed a crime! You deserved that punishment. Whatever, mom did was exactly correct. You have no right whatsoever to blame her. You are responsible for your own actions."

He glared at me, lips pursed in a thin line. It looked like as if he wanted to murder me. But...I wasn't scared even one bit. Was there any reason to be? No.

Firstly, I'm confident that I'm strong enough to protect myself. Secondly, I have my friends by my side, who will whatever it takes to save me. And lastly... I know I can count on Ash. Even though, it's unrequited love, I know that he would never let me in the mouth of fire.

He said, "I'll deal with a brat like you, later. I've more important things to do than this." He walked towards the circle, where all the statues were kept. I looked at the sky, which was open to us. It looked like it was almost time for the eclipse.

Damnit. I tried to think what could possibly be done, now.

My eyes wandered in Drew's direction and he was mouthing something, in my direction. I cocked my head in confusion as I frowned , asking him to repeat. He mouthed some words, with his eyes darting towards Piplup, expecting me to understand.

I thought about it for a while and my eyes widened in realization. I nodded at him.

He's right! Piplup was trapped in the cage but, his beak could still peek out!

"Just more five seconds and I'll become the ultimate king of this entire universe! And no one would be able to stop me! Mwahaha!" He started laughing, deviously.

"Five..."

I looked for the correct time when Piplup would meet eyes with me. But, that water type wasn't even looking in my direction!

"Four..."

I thought of calling out loud to him, but it would be more dangerous. Just then, he looked at me with a questioning expression.

"Three..."

He waved at me and I mouthed him, but he just kept on frowning and cocking his head, with utter confusion . I deadpanned. What should I do to make him understand?!

"Two..."

I tried again by motioning him by my eyes but to no avail. Of course! It would be hard for him to understand by this! Only if my hands were free!

"One...!"

I saw the sky turning dark and some energy being created by the Celebi, to its surrounding four statues. I heard Cyrus shout, "This world is going to be mine! And only mine!"

Out of frustration, I yelled, "Piplup, use ice beam on Cyrus!" In all that commotion, no one seemed to process, when Piplup had shot an ice beam on Cyrus, freezing him in its place.

"Pippppp!"

As soon as that happened, all the grunts behind us left us and ran to check up on their master. We all ran to the place all the statues were surrounded.

Ash had opened the cage, letting out Piplup and Pikachu. His Pokémon had climbed up on his shoulder and mine jumped on my head.

"Oh...my...goodness!" Leaf whispered.

All of our eyes widened when we saw a small portal being opened. All the statues' eyes had become a color of red, shining brightly and their bodies were glowing a golden light. A vortex of white light energy was generating the portal for the entrance of the legendaries. The Celebi seemed to be radiating the most brightest light.

Just then, a number of other police officers came with Officer Jenny as their commander. The officers came and grabbed all their grunts and Cyrus' freezer body. Jenny had used Growlithe's ember to melt that ice. Cyrus was quickly held by the other officers with Jenny next to him. She even brought Trip and Miette, handcuffed.

He looked around and smirked, "Mwahaha, now, no one can stop me! Total destruction is bound to happen!" His eyes had turned dark with very tiny pupils. It looked like...he had gone insane! He added, "In just two minutes, when the sun will return to its original place, the portal will enlarge and allow all the legendary gods to enter this dimension! It's unstoppable!"

Idiot, he's about to be arrested just because my tiny Piplup froze him and look at him, acting all high and mighty.

We ignored him and stared at the increasing size of the portal. Gary said, "Let's try to move those statues."

We nodded and moved towards the statue of Celebi. With great strength, we tried to move it, pushing from one direction, along with Piplup and Pikachu but, to no avail. We moved back as Leaf huffed, "Guys... It's no use! We...we cannot move it! It's...too heavy!"

May nodded as she said, "Yeah, we should think of something else. It looks small but it's definitely not light."

"Jerry did say that its magnetic force is very strong. Human force can't possibly do anything!" Drew said, shrugging.

Gary replied, "Right. But there has to be something that we can do..."

We started thinking of any way to move it. May exclaimed, with a look of panic over her face, "Guys! We have only one minute and thirty seconds left! We have got to hurry!"

Shit, shit, shit!

I shut my eyes, tensed. What is supposed to be done?!

Just then, I heard someone shout over the microphone. "It's Rhonda from Sinnoh Now! We're reporting, live from the top of Spear Pillar, due to dangerous circumstances, we're not able to give you a close-up. We'll be giving you each and every detail!"

My eyebrows scrunched in confusion, as my mouth opened, slightly when I saw a news reporter on a helicopter. I turned to the rest of our group and asked, "Did you guys call the reporter?"

They shook their head. Ash shrugged as he replied, "They have their own sources." Ah, that's not the main concern, right now!

I nodded as I went back to focus on our current situation. Think hard! There has to be a solution!

Just then, Ash said, thoughtfully, "Let's try using our Pokémon moves! I'm sure they'll definitely help us out since it's an inhuman strength and they are much more powerful than we are."

I snapped my fingers, as I said, "Great idea!"

"Yeah! Let's try it out!" Drew said as he nodded. We quickly took out our Pokéball and threw it in the air, letting all of them emerge from that little ball.

Ash had a Greninja, Charizard, Infernape,

"Guys, we want you all to help us push this huge stone statue. If it doesn't work out then, we'll ask you to use your moves, 'kay?" Leaf asked, with a pleading tone. They all roared, agreeing with her. "Good, c'mon!"

We all turned around and started pushing it, with the help of our Pokémon this time. We put all our strength into it, but it didn't even budge! I thought about it, before saying, "Guys, let's try using teleport!"

"Alright, what's there in giving it a try?" Gary sighed as he glanced at his watch. "We have only forty-five seconds left!"

May had her Gardevior, Leaf had her Espeon, Drew owned a Gallade and Gary had an Umbreon and an Alakazam. Ash and I didn't in any Pokémon who could use teleport, so we stood back.

"Use teleport!" Those four commanded in unison.

I had my fingers crossed. I really hope it works out!

"It will never work! I'm sure that it needs more than just that!" The blue-haired old, evil man smirked, looking very sure.

Ignoring his comment, I focused on the scene, before my eyes. I saw them shooting white beam of light at that huge statue, they were all sweating, heavily with one eye shut. We looked at them, with worry, sympathizing them.

"Are our officers going to succeed in stopping the evils? Will they be able to break the rite and save our world? Is it really going to work? Stay tuned to know what happens!" Rhonda reported.

Just then, the Celebi statue vanished, into thin air and appeared some footsteps away from that circle and each other, stopping all the energy which was being transferred into the other four. Even the portal was diminishing.

Our eyes widened in great delightment. We all heaved a sigh of relief. I heard, Leaf mutter, "Thank Arceus!"

Suddenly, Cyrus shouted, "Impossible! It's impossible! There's no way in hell some brats like you could destroy my wonderful plan! How the hell could that ritual possibly stop?!"

Drew raised an eyebrow as he said, "The only way to stop it was to move the Celebi statue from its place... Didn't you know that already?"

"I did! But, I didn't believe that was actually possible!" He fell down to his knees, clutching his hair, tightly, in complete frustration. We decided to ignore his stupid tantrums.

We all held an expression of happiness with a smile of victory plastered on our face. As soon as the procedure had stopped, May, Leaf, Drew and Gary jumped up and hugged their Pokémon, who had done the hard work.

Who knew that such a long mission would be done within just a few hours? I sighed, sweating as I narrowed my eyes. Well, those few hours could've been the death of me, though.

Seeing them, Piplup and Pikachu also embraced us. I grinned as I said, "We did it, Piplup!"

He nodded as he pumped up his fist. "Pip!"

Even Ash gave a satisfactory smile, saying, "Very well done, Pikachu."

Pikachu smiled, back as he high-fived his trainer. "Pika-pi!"

"Um...Dawn?"

I turned around to see Jack, standing at a distance. "Jack." I rushed at his side and questioned him, "Tell me why you joined this... disgusting man?!" He didn't reply but just looked down. I have to give him a chance to explain, right?

Piplup had jumped down from my arms, since he wanted to give me some time to speak with him. I could feel everyone's eyes on me and Jack.

He sighed as he said, "It's because..." He clenched his fist and continued, "...it's because I love you!" He yelled.

I blinked, flabbergasted and the room fell silent. Though, I could hear some gasps, it was probably Leaf or May. I couldn't believe my own ears. What...what did...he say? Did I...hear him right? "What..." I uttered. I glanced at Ash and I could noticed a slightly annoyed look on his face.

"You heard it, right! I love you, Dawn! I love you a lot!" He held me by my shoulders. "I've joined this team just for your sake!"

I knew that he liked me, I could guess that much but joining this association for my sake?...Makes no sense!

I scrunched my eyes in confusion, asking, emphatically, "What do you mean? You joined because you love me? I mean, I could understand that you had a crush on me but we just met yesterday!"

"This man, Cyrus had promised me that he would let me meet you if I joined his organization!" He looked down before bringing his eyes, staring right into mine. "And I've not encountered you for the first time, last night. I think you don't remember but we've met before!"

I asked, still confused, "We have? When?"

"It was three years, ago when you had joined the SBI. You were still a newbie but very motivated..." He explained, with a great admiration. "It was when I had come across an accident and was lying down on the road, with a huge amount of blood, flowing from me. None of the people around me were ready to help me but then, you came and picked me. You even scolded the people for not helping me. You had taken me to a nearby hospital and got my wounds treated. You stayed with me at the hospital, taking care of me, at the time when I was admitted. That's how I fell in love with you! You were just too... different and unique..."

I nodded, slowly. I felt those memories rush back to my brain, finally remembering it.

I was walking down one of the lanes of Chocovine Town. I was there for a short mission, just catching some thieves and reducing the crime rate in that place. Since, I was a newbie, Jerry refused to give me any sort of dangerous mission, even after I pleaded him! I understood the reasons but even then, I was annoyed.

I sighed, "Might as well make the best of the time while we're here, right, Piplup?"

He chirped, from above my head, "Pip!"

I was wearing the same uniform, which I usually wore. White shirt underneath a black vest and black pants. I had the gun holster around my waist, too.

Just then, we saw a lot of people gathered around something, gossiping about it but not doing anything. I asked, "What might be happening, there?"

"Pip-lup!" He pointed in that direction, while shrugging.

"Right, let's check it out!" I said as I rushed to the crowd and saw that a white-haired boy, who looked of my age, was lying on the middle of the road with a lot of blood flowing from him.

I asked, "What happened?!" I quickly, bent down and checked his pulse rate and sighed a breath of relief, when I felt it pulsating. He was just unconscious. "It seems like an accident...but, where's the car that hit him?!" I looked around. "Damn, maybe it's an hit and run case," I said to myself and Piplup.

All the people were crowding the area but none of them were ready to help! I scrunched my eyebrows, disbelievingly as I said, "What are you all staring at?! This guy's hurt and none of you are ready to take him to the hospital?! How hopeless!" They all just looked down, not saying a single word in protest.

"Piplup! Pip! Pip!" He yelled at the people.

I felt the anger rush through my veins. I clenched my fists, tightly as I frowned. I said, "After this, how can you even call yourself a human?! Don't you know when a person is in need of help, a human is supposed to give him a helping hand?! Damn, I'm so ashamed that people like you live in our society! But, you know what? None of you have a trait called humanity in you because if you did then, you wouldn't let him lie on the road like this."

Just then, I heard a little boy say, "Mommy, let's help him." I looked around to see that boy was holding his mother's hand, tugging at it. I saw his mom glare at him and pull him back.

Frowning, I exclaimed, "Unbelievable! Your son is telling you to help him and you're like 'no'?! What the hell, people?! Damnit, won't you all get that remorseful feeling if he died, right in front of you?!"

One of them said, "Uh...we don't want to get involved with the police..."

"That's the shitty reason you give me?! You have gotta be kidding me!" I take a deep breath as I continued, "You all are just so selfish. Damnit, I'd give a big lecture but I'll have to head to a nearby hospital to treat him."

"Piplup!" He said before jumping from my head to help me carry that guy.

I bent down and picked him up, pulling his one arm over my shoulder and wrapping my other arm around his waist. Though, Piplup really wasn't that big of a help but still he helped me. I called out a taxi, which was passing by.

It stopped and I put that guy in the back seat of the car. Just when I was about to get in, too, I turned to the people, who didn't move an inch from their place. I said, "Look... I'll say only one thing before I leave...just imagine what your condition would be, if you were in his place." I decided to say one more thing, "By the way, I am a police officer. Don't worry, I'll not involve you in this case." I shook my head at them and got into the back seat, next to that man.

"Pip!" He did the same and hopped into my lap and I closed the door. I could see all of them, holding an expression of regret over their faces and some were looking down, ashamed.

The taxi driver took us to the hospital in no time. I rushed that white-haired guy into one of the hospital rooms, on a stretcher.

I had given the receptionist my debit card to pay the fees. Though, the charges weren't that high but, my card was going to be empty, that's for sure.

I muttered, "I guess, I'll have to ask mom and dad for an extra allowance, this month."

We sat down on one of the benches in the hallway of the room, in which he was being treated. Just then, the doctor came and said, "It's nothing critical. It's just a minor injury on his forehead but due to that a lot of blood had been wasted. We have given him the stitches, though. He should be okay in the next few days and till that he'll be admitted in the hospital."

"Okay, sir," I thanked him as I bowed down, politely.

"Piplup," he said as he bowed, too.

The doctor nodded as he walked away. Just then, the nurse came and said that he was conscious and I could see him. I nodded as we both slowly pushed open the door, entering the room.

I saw that guy was propped up on the pillow with a bandage wrapped around his forehead. His white hair was still visible, though. Since, his eyes were open, I could see the colour of his eyes. It was darkest shade of red, which suited his hair, quite nicely. His skin was pale from the amount of blood he lost. He was wearing that blue colored patient uniform. There was a tube connected to his hand. "He's quite handsome, huh?" I muttered.

I waved as I said, "Um...hey!"

My blue penguin copied me. "Piplup!"

He looked at me with a bit of brightened eyes. He smiled, weakly as he said, "...You were the one who saved me?"

I nodded as I replied, "Yeah, kind of."

"Pip!" He was being carried in my arms as I walked to the patient's bed and sat down on the chair.

"I don't know how I should express my gratitude to you..." He paused, before continuing, "...All I can say for now is...thanks a lot. For saving my life."

I waved my hands as I said, "Hey! No need to worry! It was just my duty as a responsible citizen!" I grinned.

He questioned, in low voice, "What about the fees? Please, don't tell me that you paid it!" I sheepishly rubbed the back of my head. "Damnit! Don't worry, I'll pay you back, as soon as I get well! Sorry for the trouble I've caused you!"

I giggled. "Hey, hey. Don't get so tensed. You don't have to pay me, back. And, don't worry about anything! You should cool your mind and take a rest!" I said. 'Though, I really feel sorry for the money which I lost! But I can't ask him to pay either.'

"But-"

I interrupted him, "No buts. Just go back to sleep if you're going to keep working your brain!" He didn't reply but just took a deep sigh. "We haven't introduced ourselves, have we? I'm Dawn and this is my partner, Piplup!"

"Piplup!" He waved at him as he jumped on the bed.

He smiled, as he replied, "Nice to meet you, Piplup! My name's Jack.."

"Jack, don't you dare worry! I'm gonna take care of you, until you get healthy!" I declared, as I kept a palm on my chest with a bright smile. 'I'm saying all this just because I have a lot of time on my hands and it doesn't look like he has any relatives, too,' I thought, looking around.

He nodded, saying, "Alright, then."

The next few days had gone in a flash. Every morning, I would take a tray of breakfast for him and eat together with him. I'd help him calm his mind by cracking silly jokes. Though, I had to go for my mission in the middle, during his nap.

Then, I got to know that he was an orphan, who grew up in an orphanage. He was going for a job interview, when he got involved into an accident. I was really sorry for him but what could I possibly do except giving him encouragement?

After a week, he was finally getting discharged from the hospital. His wound has healed completely. We were at the dock. I had to go back to HQ to receive my next mission. I turned to him, and said, "I guess, this is where I'll have to leave."

"You're going, already?" He asked with a tinge of hurt in his voice. "Won't you let me thank you?"

I smiled, sheepishly. "Yeah. My mission in this town is done, so I'll have to go back to the SBI office and get involved in another mission. And... you've already told me thanks, many a times and I think it's enough!" I laughed.

"Pip!" He waved, still in my arms.

He looked down with a smile, his palm rubbing the back of his neck. He said, "Haha, I think it's not still not enough."

"C'mon, don't be so down! Cheer up! You've been discharged from the hospital!" I said, patting his shoulder. "If you want, you can give me a chocolate, you know. That'll be just fine!" I winked, mischievously.

He laughed. "Sure. I knew it! I had seen you eat it, almost every hour!" He dug his hands into his pockets and handed me a big bar of chocolate.

I thanked him as I placed it in my pocket. "That's my cue to leave, then." I smiled at him.

Just then, he turned bright red before pulling my arm. I felt Piplup jump down on the ground, in surprise. I gasped, slightly when my face hit his chest. I felt his arms wrap around my waist and shoulder. He had his face buried into my shoulder. I was shocked but relaxed and wrapped my arms around him, too. Being hugged by Gary made me get used to being hugged by guys and Jack had that extremely relaxing aura that I couldn't push him away.

He muttered, "Dawn, thank you so much for saving me." His words sounded so genuine and real, that I couldn't refuse it.

"Jack..." I smiled, warmly at his gesture.

After a few minutes or so, he finally released the embrace but held my shoulder. He stared into my eyes, deeply as he said, "I assure you that this was the final thanks."

I laughed, softly. "Jack! You're so..." I trailed off.

"What? Cool, right?" He winked, jokingly. I just punched his arm, lightly as I shook my head at him. He laughed at my actions as he said, seriously , "Dawn...let's meet again, okay?"

I grinned, "Sure!"

"I'm so glad that I met you, Dawn. I guess, something good does come out of every bad thing," he said, with warm eyes.

"You're flattering me, now!" I exclaimed. Just then, I heard the ferry horn buzz off. "Umm...I guess, I should leave."

He nodded but flashed a toothy smile at me. "I'd love to meet you, again, you know!"

"Me too, Jack!" I nodded. "Goodbye. See you, soon." I winked at him.

"Yeah, see you!" He exclaimed.

"Piplup!" He waved at him and Jack smiled at him, stroking his head. After bidding goodbye, the rushed to the ferry and climbed up the ship.

He stared at me go away but waved at me, while he shouted, cupping his mouth, "Dawn! I like you very much!"

What? Maybe, he meant in as an admiration? Yeah, that must be it! I smile at him and waved back. Jack was really very good guy! I hope he gets a job and makes hell lot of friends!

"Yeah... I do remember, now," I said with that memory flashing. Damn, how could I ever forget that?! I'm such a terrible friend! "Sorry that I didn't remember. I'm really sorry," I apologized.

He ignored it and continued, "Dawn...you pulled the strings of my heart whenever you smiled at me. I just...couldn't get you out of my mind..."

I asked, softly, "Jack...but why did you join this team? If you wanted to meet me, there were so many other ways... Why did you choose this one?"

"I don't know...but, I swear that I didn't know I was joining an evil organization! Cyrus just came and asked me if I wanted to meet you and...I got so eager that I joined it. He offered that if I helped him then, I'd get to meet you..." He explained.

I looked down, and muttered, "Jack..."

"I know, Dawn! I know! You don't harbour those kind of romantic feelings for me...but for someone else." His eyes lingered at Ash before turning it to me. Did he know it, too?! He sighed, before saying, "But, I want to do something, which I've been wanting to do."

I was about to question him, but my eyes widened when I felt something warm on my lips. My heart started to race at the touch. That's when I realized.

...Jack was k-kissing me.

From the corner of my eyes, I could see Ash's eyes go wide in rage and fists clench. He was about to make his way, here but I saw Drew hold him, back. He huffed in anger and just crossed his arms, but not tearing his eyes away from us.

Jack's lips were pressed against mine. I didn't respond to the kiss but couldn't push him away, either! I was totally frozen up. It must hurt very badly to have an unrequited love... I sympathize him... But I wanted to push him away, I didn't want to continue the kiss!

Just then, I felt something fall on my cheeks and then, I realised that it were tears. But, how? I wasn't crying...wait. It meant...Jack was crying? But, why? Was he really that happy to just kiss me?

Finally, I gained back my movements and pushed him away from me. "Jack, what are you doing-" I yelled but paused when I saw him smiling.

For some reason, his face seemed to be glowing with great happiness. He had a smile plastered over his face, eyes shut and tears flowing from his closed eyes.

I asked, softly, "But, why? Why are you crying?"

"I'm so happy that I finally to got to kiss you!" He said, gleefully, wiping his tears away with the back of his palm. He looked so...bright...

It was making even more guilty. I said, looking at the ground, "Jack.. I'm sorry for making you feel that way... it's just that...I never wanted to hurt you..not this way. I'm really extremely sorry for that."

He pulled up my face, by placing a finger under my chin. He smiled, saying, "I'm the one responsible for my own actions. I fell for you by my own will, you never wished for it to happen. Though, I'm really glad that I love you."

I couldn't meet his gaze, not after knowing how bad it feels to get rejected by the one whom you truly love.

He said, "Dawn...you don't have to feel so guilty about it. I want you to be happy, even if it means that you'll be with someone else. I really do love you but that doesn't mean, I will force you to do the same. Your happiness comes first for me."

His words me feel really special and it somehow warmed every inch of my body. I smiled at him as I said, "Alright, then...you have to promise me something."

Jack scrunched his eyebrows, confused as he asked, "What promise?"

"Promise me that you'll move on in your life and never look back. You have to find a good girl, who loves you with all her heart," I said, pleadingly. I know, it's very cruel of me to do that but... that's necessary. I didn't want him to be hung up on me, destroying his life.

"That promise...is quite hard to make," he said. He looked hesitant before smiling at me. "Alright, then. I promise to do that but I'll try. I'm not sure if I'll be able to fulfill that promise. It'll take some time..."

I nodded, eagerly. "It's alright! As long as you do that, everything works!" Instinctively, I wrapped my arms around him, giving a hug of assurance. He seemed to have returned the embrace, as he muttered. "Dawn...thank you."

I felt nostalgic at that. He did the same thing he had done the time, we had previously met. I smiled, as we both pulled away with a new light radiated from us. He was being taken away by two officers. As far as I knew, he wouldn't get sentenced to jail because he had done nothing but just stay at their base, without being aware of their evil plan.

Suddenly, Cyrus got himself free from the officers hold, grabbing Jenny's gun. He laughed before pointing the at me. Before I even had the time to process, I felt something hard hit my stomach. It was maybe...a bullet?

I felt myself falling down from the opened area of the top building, due to the amount of pressure that was exerted by that bullet. My body was beginning to get really heavy and dizzy. My eyes were trying to force themselves shut.

"Dawn!"

Though, I could hear faint shouts of Leaf and all, calling out my name. I could figure out even Piplup's voice. My body seemed to be going down, with air brushing past through me, quite roughly.

Man...am I...going to die, this way?

Arceus... you should've at least made me die, after I had been awarded the medal of bravery! And after I had confessed my feelings to Ash! Then, I'd have died, peacefully...

Life...why did you have to be so cruel?!

Damnit.

...I guess, I'll have to leave this world, without even saying goodbye to Leaf, May, Drew, Gary, Piplup, Pikachu...Ash...mom and dad...

Goodbye...my sweet life... May I land in heaven.

With that, I closed my eyes. I felt my body being lightened into the air. I slipped out of consciousness, falling into a hole of darkness, being surrounded by it.

If I get a chance to live...then, I'd surely make it worth.
