I walked over to the clubhouse and saw her drinking at the bar. I walked over and she looked up at me. I grabbed her chin and turned her head a little so I could see her nose. She did the same to me, looking at the marks from the fight and her slaps.
"You okay?" I asked her.
"I'm fine. I've been hit before. You?"
"I'm fine. I've been hit before." I smirked at her.
"Smartass."
"I learned from the best."
"Yeah, your father is pretty good at that."
We both laughed. "Yeah, he is… I'm sorry."
"Guess I'm lucky you didn't blow my head off."
I laughed a little. "Look, I-uh, I gotta go down to the hospital for a little while. I'll be back in a couple hours."
"Why do you have to go to the hospital?"
"I've got to um, talk to someone, about my accident."
"What is it about this accident that has you so shaken up?"
"It just… I don't really know. Something about it just has me all stressed."
"Well, I want to help you if I can. I don't like seeing you like this."
"Yeah. I'm working on it. Look, do me a favor, don't go anywhere by yourself okay? Something's off in this town. I don't want you getting hurt."
"Huh, I could say the same. You takin' anyone with you to the hospital?"
"No. I'll be alright."
"Then so will I."
"Mom…"
"If you don't need anyone with you then neither do I."
"Look, just be careful okay? I gotta go. I love you." I kissed her cheek and hugged her before I left.
I saw Tara outside and she offered to give me a ride. She was probably just trying to make sure that I actually went. When I got in the car I stopped to think about what I had just done. I was able to hug my mother without feeling like I was suffocating for even a second. It was progress. Next I had to get better with Tig. Tig! Oh my God. I stood him up last night and haven't seen or heard from him since. Shit. I would have to fix that after I went to see this damn doctor.
We parked in the garage and she walked me to the office. "Here. She'll be with you in a minute I'm sure. And she's very discreet."
"Yeah yeah, but you're not. Go. I'll sit and wait."
I walked over to a chair in the waiting room and sat down. I looked up at the woman sitting across from me. She looked strung out, sad. Hell, the strung out part might not be so bad, but I still wasn't sure about all this. A woman came out of the doctor's office and she was crying. God, what kind of place was this. This wasn't me.
"Are you Dr. Knowles' friend?"
"Um, no. No." I got up and left. I couldn't do this. I was not a touchy-feely person. I did not talk about shit with anyone outside the club. I did not cry in doctor's offices. And I did NOT talk to shrinks.
I walked up to the main floor where Tara worked. I saw Jax in the hallway, he was leaving.
"Hey, what're you doing here?" He asked.
"Same thing you are. Got mad love for Tara."
"Yeah." He laughed.
"Come on. Get me the hell outta here."
"Yes ma'am." I grabbed his arm and we walked towards the door.
We went outside and got on his bike. We were headed back to the house when he decided to go through downtown. Take the scenic route. We got to Main Street, he stopped at the end. We saw the guys standing outside of Floyd's Barber Shop and Weston was standing on the other side of the street. This was not good.
"Shit. Get off." Jax said.
I did and then he sped over to get between Opie and Weston. I was too far away to hear what they were saying, but I could tell Jax was trying to calm them down. It seemed to be working with the guys, but Weston wasn't backing down. He kicked over Jax's bike and then they started to brawl. I looked up and saw Wayne and my dad. Wayne was calling it in so I went to talk to dad.
"What the hell is going on?"
"Nothing you need to worry about, baby."
"Street brawl isn't the answer, dad."
"No, but it sure is entertaining. Get outta here before the cops show up. I don't wanna deal with your mom bitchin' cuz you got into another fight."
"I don't have a ride."
"Take my bike. Just come to the station and pick me up."
"Yes Sir."
I put the helmet from Jax's bike back on and got on my dad's bike. I went to the station because I knew they wouldn't be far behind me. I went into the main room and waited for them to get there. When they were brought in, they were taken straight to the holding cell. Wayne told me that he was just gonna let them go after a few minutes, so I went outside to smoke while I waited. He went into Hale's office as I was leaving.
After a few minutes Hale came outside. "You got a minute?"
"I suppose. For what?"
"I am, um, looking for some information on Zobelle and was hoping you could help."
"Me? I don't know hardly anything about Zobelle. What exactly are you looking at him for?"
"He's a bad guy and I don't want him to stay in this town."
"Look, if you're playing at something either get to it or go bother someone else with it, okay? I know you're in his pocket."
"I am not in anyone's pocket. Look, Unser told me some things… about you, what happened. At least what he knows."
"Piece of shit." I hissed.
"He had to."
"Shut up!" I walked down the stairs in front.
"Look, we both know that he's going to try something else eventually. Especially since I take it you didn't do what he wanted."
"You don't know nothin' about what he wanted."
"I know that. Give me something Amelia. Any detail. Anything you can remember. It never goes on record, your secret keeps. Just… point me somewhere."
"Why are you suddenly so interested in helping us?"
"I became a cop. That doesn't mean I don't give a shit about folks I grew up with. I'm from this town, Amelia, same as you. My job is to protect the citizens of Charming. I'm trying to do that."
"You wanna hurt this guy?"
"Yeah, I do."
"Girl, my age, cute, blonde, good rack. She's the only one I saw. She's Zobelle's daughter. She goes to my goddamn school."
He sighed. "Thank you. And I am sorry."
"If you or your cancerous boss tell anyone else what happened to me, I will cut both of your big, soft hearts out."
"Copy that."
"Hey baby." My dad said, coming out of the door.
"Hey dad, guys."
"Hale bothering you?"
"No. He was just leaving. Right Hale?"
"Right. Thank you." He walked back into the building.
"What's he thankin' you for?"
"Told him I would keep you guys outta trouble the best I could."
"Yeah right." Jax said.
"That's what I told him. Come on. Someone take me back to the garage."
"You got it darlin'." Jax said and I hopped on the back of his bike.
