Hello everyone, I am Anime Borat. My favorite anime are Azumanga Daioh, Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star. My interest are books, games, anime and general information(needed for creativity). I hope you enjoy my stories and looking forward to make more. I believe that fan fiction spawns creativity, increases writing, thinking and reading skills. And the guy on the picture is Patrick Galloway from Clive Barker's Undying. NEWS: Ah yes, the cold winds of December are here... unless you're in a place like Australia, with a misplaced summer. For much of the modern world Christmas is the most anticipated holiday of the year, even some places where Christianity doesn't hold sway, if purely for commercial reasons. Seems we're more than just getting more of the same, we're getting an update to 2020 called Patch 2021. The highlights of this travesty are the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban after they snookered their end of the deal, a new COVID variant called Omicron, because using the Chinese zodiac would be offensive, Jeff Bezos achieved his lifelong dream of being Doctor Evil with a private rocket ride but without the inherent hilarity to it via from profiteering from last year and even more political BS. Anyway, this extremely commercialized holiday is gonna make a slight comeback to walk-in retail but online sales are gonna remain steadilly lucrative, of course peace on earth and goodwill towards mankind isn't as exciting as holiday sales. Still, this time should be a sobering lesson on what really matters - people. In most traditions in the northern hemisphere winter is a time of hardship as the earth freezes and nothing can grow. Food from the years' harvest is stored and meant to last into the next spring and people gather around the hearth to recall good times and bad. I'm not gonna elaborate on Christmas as its relevance often goes without question and its history a journey worth taking. 12/10/21 Updated: 12-15-21 How could I neglected the music!? Christmas can never be complete without it! If anything, it's more than just good cheer, music is always an intricate part of any holiday. That being said, I won't go through the usual medley route as already have something in mind for much broader winter theme, encompassing everything how I felt of it of that season. Niño Precioso (Orchestral) - 48/49 - Call of Duty Black Ops II Original Soundtrack- how could've forgotten about this one? This rendition of a traditional Nicaraguan Christmas song brings some bittersweet humanity into the gritty story of, for me, the Call of Duty game that is the high water mark of the series, Call of Duty Black Ops II. Set in a dystopian near-future setting (quite cutting it close now) has you battle against a charismatic terrorist leader with a plan of vengeance decades in the making. This was for me the CoD with the best story-driven singleplayer campaign, a villain with actual sympathy and a viable motive, and having close realism in its speculative future plot. It also came out in 2012, the supposed last year for the Mayan Calendar and a big year for games, with its peers in the first-person genre like Far Cry 3, Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, many of them also having great stories along with the critically-acclaimed Spec Ops: The Line, the Apocalypse Now of the modern military shooter genre. My thanks to Kamar De Los Reyes (the voice of Raul Menendez) and Jack Wall to bringing this song to bigger audience. You can also listen to the subtle but poignant guitar version which is bound to bring you to tears. SABATON - Christmas Truce (Official Music Video) - what kicked started the whole thing for me, one of the most poignant, bittersweet moments of humanity brought to life and song by Sabaton! Christmas In Our Hearts - Jose Mari Chan (LYRICS)- this winter classic heralds the longest Christmas season in the world, right in the Philippines, playing during the first day of September. Rosemary Clooney Have Yourself A Merrry Little Christmas- in my defense, I have to least acknowledge the classics. I may have heard the song from time to time but Rosemary Clooney's cover of the holiday hit from 1944 hits all the right notes for me in the Supernatural Christmas special A Very Supernatural Christmas. Always that season poignancy of family celebrating a lean yet joyful holiday together like the show's two brothers hits quite hard for me. Sia - Snowman [Official Video] - a quirky yet poignant Christmas video from Sia. AFI - Love Like Winter (Official Music Video)- this song encapsulates everything wonderful about winter, overlapping with Christmas, this rock ballad would surely keep you company in these months, making you wax nostalgic of older holidays. [HQ]Yasashii Boukyaku - The Disappearance Of Suzumiya Haruhi Ending- The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (Suzumiya Haruhi no Shōshitsu) had become a Christmas classic in its own right among anime fans, especially for those who read the light novel series by Nagaru Tanigawa or watched the more popular anime derived from it. Snow and winter is associated with romance in Japan, and the main character of the movie is not Haruhi Suzumiya but Yuki Nagato, whose first name means snow. In fact, a bit of a spoiler, this story is about her. Listen to the song to feel its bittersweet warmth in these cold December days, keeping you company, solitude need not be about loneliness. Que sera - Romantically Apocalyptic - this cover is for your darkly-comedic nuclear winter needs, based on the popular webcomic. ''Weird Al'' Yankovic - Christmas at Ground Zero (W/ LYRICS)- you can never go wrong with Weird Al, another black comedy off-kilter classic. Metal Gear Solid Soundtrack: The Best Is Yet To Come- 1998's Metal Gear Solid made videogame history with its cinematic storytelling and deep themes. Being set in the Arctic islands off the coast of Alaska heightened its appeal and nostalgia. Let this melancholy yet hopeful song sweep you to its cold embrace for days passed which were wonderful. Georgij Abramow - Morie Szumit (Георгий Абрамов - Море шумит)- used in the ending of Cryostasis, because I keep coming back to this song during cold days. Also set in the Arctic but with a magic realism touch even more than Metal Gear. Georgij Abramov's hit would croon its way into your heart. Red Army Choir - The Hunt For Red October- if this song doesn't make you feel epic, I don't know what will. Used as the main theme for the hit movie based on Tom Clancy's blockbuster first novel, a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase for the Soviet Navy's top-secret missile sub with cutting-edge technology, set across the wintry North Atlantic and occurring during Christmas season. I vote the movie as an honorary Christmas flick for those alone, if nothing else. Finnish War Song - Njet, Molotoff- can't find the two great videos that featured this lighthearted yet mocking song that was hit for the Finns during the Winter War (Finnish: Talvisota), a then little-known side conflict during the Second World War that elevated to memetic status in the Internet, bringing that piece of history into the mainstream. As you can see, no prizes for what the song's about or its time and place. Still fun though. Sabaton - Talvisota (Lyrics English & Deutsch)- another pulse-pounding hit from Sabaton, which articulated and distilled the David-and-Goliath struggle of the Winter War between the Soviet Union and Finland, giving an overview of how it was fought that made the Internet declare the Swedish power metal band as the best history teacher you never had in school. Sabaton - White Death- learning about the Winter War can never be complete without first meeting this man, a simple Finnish farmer named Simo Häyhä, who became the terror of the Finnish forests during the war, reportedly racking up more than 505 kills with his rifle alone without the aid of a scope, plus 200 with his submachine gun, forcing the Soviets to eliminate him by any means necessary including using their own snipers (who never came back) and artillery. The short man's impressive career was cut short by an high-explosive bullet (Soviet sniper didn't survive the reply shot though) and he spent the remainder of the war in hospital, coincidentally his coming-to occurred the day a ceasefire was called. When asked about his career, why he was able to do it with few problems, he humbly replied that he did his duty. He also got to live a ripe old age of 96, almost a century just slightly after the turn of the millennium in 2002. SABATON - Screaming Eagles (Official Music Video)- the last Sabaton tribute on this list. Having watched the titular documentary of the 101st Airborne and the miniseries Band of Brothers, I feel it appropriate to include this in the last for the role the Screaming Eagles played during the pivotal Battle of Bastonge, which turned the tide of the last great German offensive in the West, the Battle of the Bulge, and in particular Easy Company's part in it. NUTS! Fever Ray 'If I Had A Heart'- like the Vikings TV series? Then you would be familiar with Fever Ray's hit song used in the program. The slow melancholy ambience of the song is great for remembering the dark storm clouds that seem to gather whenever the Vikings raid across Europe, leaving a profound mark in Dark Age history. Dishonored 2 - Soundtrack - Brigmore Lullaby Lyrics- I can't think of any winter-themed song with a disturbing horror element. This underlines how winter wasn't always a joyful, magical, or simply a harsh season of frost and snow. Winter is a season of hardship, when the earth seems to sleep, unable to give its life-giving bounty, the sun seems so distant as not to warm the earth and monsters lurk in the dark cold beyond the hearth. Sviridov - The Snowstorm - Winter Road - PART 9 of 9- this track was made by Soviet composer Georgy Sviridov, was used in the 1964 movie The Blizzard (Метель/Metel), based on the 1831 short story of Aleksandr Pushkin of the same name. Sviridov was widely known the Soviet Union for his music but virtually unknown in the West for much of the 20th century and the this particular song has drawn a lot of controversy over allegations of plagiarism of the Metal Gear Solid theme due to similarities. Lieutenant Kijé Suite, Op. 60, No. 4: Troika- the most Christmas-like music from the Soviet era I've ever heard, used in a movie that mocks 18th century Tsarist Russia. Heard in the Gmod video Let's Play Aeroplanes. Funniest thing I've ever saw in 2017. Playlist special - Christmas Music - by Clamavi de Profundis - Few words in my opinion won't do justice to this relatively obscure music group. What can be known is that they do plenty of great songs inspired by Tolkien, their own original fantasy, and naturally Christian, mainly Roman Catholic, music, as they are Roman Catholic. Needless to say, Christmas is one area they'll inevitably touch upon. Now listen to their beautiful covers of traditional Christmas music feel that calming mix of poignancy and hope for what the holiday means and stands for. Now, for the stories of the occasion. Adventures of Tintin- A Very Castafiore Christmas by blue.totoro. A Song of Ice and Fire- George R.R. Martin's opus magnus combines low fantasy with medieval history and politics to create a tapestry that strips down its cliches and tropes, build them back up again, and examine the social, political and cultural themes of its setting. Winter has come indeed. Sean Bean Saves Westeros - Book 1: Sean Lends a Hand Sean Bean Saves Westeros - Book 2: Sean Wins by a Nose Sean Bean Saves Westeros - Book 3: Sean Hits the Wall A Game of Ice and Fire by I'mjusttryingtofindmyway. The One-Handed Knight by Alicja Adler. Gifting by renrenren3. Azumanga Daioh - enjoy these wintertime stories as the most beloved and wholesome girls of this grounbreaking slice-of-life anime celebrate their friendship in the most wonderful of the year. Wintertime Fun by Knuckleheads Inc. An Osaka Christmas by Shimata. Call of Duty - another late addition that kept gnawing at my mind. This is based on one of the most dramatic turns in CoD with one of the saddest and most hard-hitting moments in the series. Here is an alternate take to fan favorite Dmitri Petrenko, the Russian player character of World at War. He died in the Arctic, alone and forgotten except by his best friend. Winter and the cold sets the stage for another tragic death, albeit fictional. What's rather bittersweet in symbolism is that WW2 ended to give way to the period known as the Cold War, the ideological struggle between Communism and Capitalism and both this and the war that preceded it would influence the course of human history to this day. Some of the men who survived fighting one war would go on to fight another, altogether different war; and the people who lived through that same war would have their lives changed, and in some cases scarred, forever. If I Could Change the Weather by Ace1339. CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS Chapter 8: Project Nova by EREICH. The Lone Soldier by FrankandJoe3. Pray To Be Stronger Men by Aphelion Rhyne. The Truth by Reeserella. Conan series - by Crom a decent fic set in Robert E. Howard's popular Conan the Barbarian series! Not starring the eponymous barbarian but this sweeping sword-and-sorcery story is set in the cold wilds of Hyborian Age. The Howler of the Wastes by Benestro. Cthulhu Mythos - H. P. Lovecraft set his horror far from civilization and into the remote, inhospitable corners of the earth. Antarctica was his favorite polar region for this but this fan offering is set in the north. The Horror From The Blizzard by Morris Kenyon. Half-Life - we all wanted a proper conclusion to Half-Life 2, perhaps even a proper Half-Life 3. Instead, Valve left us hanging at Episode 2, the promise of a showdown set in Arctic aboard the mystery ship Borealis, with a probable connection to Portal. A far cry from the scorching hot deserts of New Mexico, it leaves us with a cold empty feeling of incompleteness, an unresolved conclusion to a beloved series, making us speculate and write about it would all be. A Means of an End by Noun of Nouns. Haruhi Suzumiya - with the movie The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and its source light novel being set in December, it bears some loose thinking as snow is often associated with romance in Japanese culture and this fandom is notable for shippers. More pointedly, it brings to mind one major character whose name means snow - Yuki Nagato. She may be initially cold as her name but the surfacing of her feelings are like the soft winter snow falls. The thing that puts the chills in from Haruhi Suzumiya is not the winter cold but from its cool existential introspection, it's not the chill of existential dread but from metaphorically looking over a stormy sea of human emotion, detached yet longing for something. And plus one horror fic set in the mountains. Sailing to Byzantium by meowll. The Boy Who Waited by DonofLolz. Flawless by The Mystic Doctor. the colour fadeout by dear future. Special mention to superstarultra's parodies for having a Christmas special each - You Got HaruhiRolled!'s Chapter 70 and Cracks in the SOS Dan's Chapter 59. Hellboy - a surprising entry for this greqt comic work set in this holiday season. Hellboy III by ShoshanaFlower. Hetalia - from my least favorite fandom comes four stories of my own personal choice, one of them right for the times, of a near-forgotten chapter in history brought back to the limelight by popular demand, the Winter War of 1939-1940. Higurashi/Umineko - in an anime set in a broken loop of eternal recurrence, having winter is like hitting the jackpot. Higurashi: Winter Mayhem! by Winter's ice. Medal of Honor - there's an interesting correlation between Christmas and war, that one of soldiers longing for home and for a world at peace. "Home by Christmas" was the promise given for a quick end to a war, only for reality to dash those false hopes utterly. And often in winter does it set the backdrop for some of the most miserable and pivotal conflicts in history, most of these examples have taken place in eastern Europe from Napoleon to Barbarossa. And soldiers in those theaters dream of a warm fire, a full table, and a dining hall full of laughter, of a time and place they'd rather be. As winter and the cold is often symbolized with death, not surprisingly most soldiers' stories end in bittersweet tragedy. Seeing White by Eladamri Dael'Oyos. A Sniper's Last Stand by W.D. Guy. MOH: Rabbits Tale by Raider09. Metal Gear - ever since playing the demo somewhere during the early 2000s, I've been enamored by the Metal Gear series. MGS's Arctic setting gives me nostalgia and brings the chill of winter in me in my living room, of an underlying solitude beneath its richly-cinematic veneer. And there's a few fics that are set or have been written during Christmastime. Tactical Espionage Action: Metal Gear Solid by Steven Hildreth Jr. The Great War and the Christmas Truce by Greekhoop. Metal Gear Santa by Marie Nomad. The Elevator Up to Hell by akaisakura. Metal Gear Solid: Elements of Destruction by FrozenBlueIce. Metal Gear Santa by Moff. A Warrior's Hope by Lone Dragon. Metro 2033 - the ancients find winter a terrible prospect and often they fear a winter with no end, lingering memories from the last Ice Age. With the advent of nuclear weapons, nuclear winter modernizes an already terrible ancestral memory by adding the specter of radiation. That scene could not be captured better than by the critically-acclaimed series of Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky, who writes of a dark depressing tale of the last remnants of humanity being forced into the underground of Moscow and examines how human society evolved underneath, exposing a number of underlying issues within contemporary Russian society. But often in darkness shines the star of hope, often in the cold the fire of life burns fiercely as we follow the epic quest of its heroes to save their home. Metro-The First by Aren serathy. Rainbow Six - from a counter-terrorist shooter comes two entries in may as well be a Christmas truce. Safehouse by GuyWithTheCatTattoos. Safehouse Epilogue: Christmas by agreensnowman. Toradora! - last month I decided to revisit an old anime I once watched a few times and had a soft spot for it. I never been one for romance though I appreciate its virtue and Toradora! is one of the better-written tsundere-featuring slice-of-life romances in anime out there. Its Christmas episode is one the show's highlights. Holy, Holy Night by Erebos Brando. No Matter What by momoxtoshiro. Warcraft - Again, the winter theming. Never played WoW but enjoyed Warcraft III and its aptly-named expansion Frozen Throne greatly. The story, while nothing Academy-award winning and certainly not truly original, is well-executed as Blizzard games of yore were. Little known fact: the decision to go from RTS to MMO for Warcraft was made by Blizzard from the very start side-by-side in WC3's development. It would become a juggernaut of MMOs for years to come. For most, the story of Arthas and indeed, of WoW had climaxed in Wrath of The Lich King, in the frozen continent of Northrend where it was the turning point of WC3's Human campaign, and fittingly where Arthas the Lich King had ruled over only to be defeated and slain. Since then Blizzard has continued a gradual decline with the series and none of the subsequent expansions, while mainly solid, ever captured the thunder of the early WoWs. Then it went off the deep end with Warcraft 3: Reforged. I don't know anything of this travesty and will never want to see it again. Now Blizzard is digging itself deeper with scandal after scandal along with its conjoined twin, the already odious Activision. And interestingly, WoW has its own Christmas equivalent called Winterveil. FrostMournes by Vente. Ascension Rise of the new Lich King by Zephyr C. Legacy of the Frozen Throne by Dimas.
