Chapter 24
So that was it. That was how it all happened. That was how I found Rory, realized she wasn't my Rory anymore and realized that she clearly didn't care about me the way that I had about her. For starters, she had let her dad take her away and fake her death and she had been fine with it. She had also been fine with him torturing me a bunch of times. And lastly, in the last torturing, she had actually helped him.
Psychological torture is worse than physical you know? Physical eventually fades away, psychological sticks with someone for life. Or at least this would stay with me for life.
The more I thought about it the more I was angry about it.
I mean, it wasn't her fault I dreamed about a fake reality where I had married her and had a baby on the way. But she didn't have to play along when her dad asked her to.
It also wasn't her fault that I still found myself thinking about that fake world I had created. That I dreamed about it. That I'd wake up, upset that it was no longer my reality.
It wasn't her fault but I blamed her for it because it was easier than admitting I was still in love with her after everything that happened.
And maybe that was why I was a little bit too cruel with her. But I couldn't help it.
I was angry. Angry and lashing out. And taking it out entirely on her.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
"Well, Rory. Today's the day," Steve said as he came into the room. "I just talked to your doctor and you've been cleared to move."
Rory hit him with a sarcastic and dry: "Yay," but he wasn't disheartened.
"Now, all we need to decide is where I'm moving you to."
There were three options, of course.
The first being a female prison on the island, the second being a psychiatric prison for the criminally insane and the third being a regular psychiatric facility where she'd be comfortable and de-brainwashed in a nice and harmless fashion.
The last one was where he wanted to send her, but only if she cooperated. Couldn't reward bad behaviour.
"If you want to go to the cushy place you're going to have to work with me. Okay?"
Rory was glaring at him. He had been trying this all week, but she refused to budge. But now the day of reckoning was upon her. She may have thought, up until this moment that there was no way he'd put her in jail, but he had hardened himself to her beautiful blue eyes, and those kissable pink lips of hers. He wouldn't cave.
He'd do what he had to do.
"Tell me where he is."
Rory rolled her eyes at him. "I already told you, I don't know."
Yeah Steve didn't buy that. "Come on now, you have to know where he's going. Where his safe houses are…"
"I do."
"Then tell me where he's gone."
Rory shrugged that time. "Could be anywhere, honestly," she said.
"Trust me, I can check them all."
Rory's eyes found his, those blue eyes narrowed and shining in defiance. He knew what her answer was going to be before she even said.
"I'm not telling you, Steven. And I wouldn't, even if I did like you. Which I don't."
Those words shouldn't have hurt him, but they did. They were like tiny little knives in his already broken heart.
"Right, then you're going to the bad place."
Rory's eyes stayed narrowed in that dry sarcastic glare. "They're all bad places, Steven."
But Steve ignored her. He left the room to call it in. They'd be taking her to the Correctional Facility in Kailua.
Once he had confirmed where Rory was going to be going, the next step was to get her into the prisoner transport truck. He already knew that was going to be problematic because that meant he was going to have to be close to her, he was going to have to be strong, and Steve was not strong where it came to Rory.
Never had been.
It definitely helped that he had a whole squad of police there with him. There were two that were on her door, to make sure that she didn't escape when she was changing into her civilian clothes. She'd be getting the uniform when she got to the Correctional Facility. Normally they'd have that ready for her to change into, but Steve had only just decided where he was sending her.
There were three cars, not including his that was going to be escorting the truck all the way to Kailua.
And best, or maybe worst, of all, Danny had come with him.
Danny who seemed to be enjoying this a little too much. Danny, who had never believed Rory was alive in the first place, who had been against this from the start, would not stop smiling at Steve in that smug way of his.
"So… what did she pick?" he asked once Steve was off the phone.
Yeah like he hadn't heard him.
"She chose to go to jail," Steve told him.
"Like regular jail or are we sending her to the crazy criminals' jail."
"Regular jail."
He should have sent her to the psychiatric facility for the criminally insane, he should have. But he didn't want her to be tortured in that facility. From his understanding they still used shock therapy. So she'd go to regular jail, that was still pretty bad.
Maybe a few months in a little box would smarter her up.
It hadn't worked on Wo Fat, but he was hoping it would work on Rory. He'd visit, once a month just to make sure she was still standing on the whole not telling him where her so called father was. She'd crack sooner rather than later, he guessed.
Once the transport truck was there, Steve had to get Rory to it. That was the part that was problematic.
One of the only things he remembered, well, about Rory was that she was altogether too good at getting away from things. She had been an escape artist at the age of twelve, he was pretty sure that she had probably gotten better at that as she had gotten older.
The clothes he had given her weren't hers. But they were her size. She was in a typical white tee-shirt and a pair of plain blue jeans. Why did she have to look stunning in that? Really why?
"Come on," he said and she offered him up her arm like this was some kind of date.
He took the one arm, then the other and handcuffed her which just made her groan at him. Then he took that arm again and that was them on the move once more.
As he walked her through the hospital, he tried to not think of what he was doing. He was going to send the woman he had loved since he was fourteen to jail. She was probably never going to forgive him. But he had no choice, he had to get her away from Wo Fat and his influence on her.
He got her all the way down to the truck and Rory came to a stop.
"Do we really have to do this?" she asked him and Steve turned back to her. "Do you even have anything on me? And don't say my dad because you can't arrest me for association."
"You helped him torture me!"
"Okay so I'm getting like what… five years? Without a trial? That seems strange…"
"Rory, just get in the truck," he snapped, trying to push her towards the back but she was suddenly unmovable.
"Are you sure?" she asked. "I'd hate for you to put me in there and suddenly realize you need me."
"Need you? Why the hell would I need you?" Steve cried.
"Oh I unno," she said with a shrug. "You sure you're not missing anything?"
Steve frowned at her while she smiled at him. He clearly had no idea what it was she was talking about. After a while of the two of them just staring at one another, Rory held up his wallet. Right away Steve was groaning.
"Great, so you've gotten better at the petty thievery," he growled.
"Yep," she said, and then, as if she was showing off, she simply… handed him her handcuffs. He hadn't even seen her slip out of them. Steve groaned and went to cuff her again, but then she was handing him his own car keys she must have also gotten out of his pocket. How had he not felt that?
"Rory!" he snapped and she just smiled at him.
"Sorry, here, I'll let you cuff me again, since you seem to like it so much," she said with a suggestive smirk as she offered him her hands and Steve glared at her.
"Shut up," he cried a little more loudly then he normally would.
"Wow, what was that?" Danny asked. His question pointed at Steve. "Why you so red? And loud right now?"
"Oh, he's getting angry. I'm very good at pushing his buttons. When we were younger, whenever I outwitted him, which was like… all the time, he'd just tell me to shut up. It's how I'd know I won."
"Rory!" he cried. "You didn't win, I just don't want to argue with you, now can you get in the truck?"
"Do I have to?" she asked. "I still get motion sick."
"Rory, I swear to god…"
"Maybe I could ride up front, I promise I'll behave."
"You're not capable and I know it," he growled to her. He grabbed her shoulders and tried to push her towards the back of the truck.
Rory dug her feet into the ground, literally leaning against his hand. He could move it and she'd collapse but he wouldn't do that cause then she'd get hurt. Call him stupid but he really didn't want to hurt her.
"How about a bathroom break?"
"We haven't even left yet."
"Well, as we learned that one time we got stuck in traffic on the way to South Shore, it's always important to go before you leave."
"Oh my god… no, you're not bring that up right now…."
"What happened?" Danny asked, a grin on his face that Steve didn't like at all. Why the hell was his partner and best friend egging this girl on?
He tried to tell Rory not to say anything, but either she didn't get it or didn't care. "I made him laugh too hard and he wet his pants."
"Rory!" he cried. "Shut up!"
Danny's grin had managed to grow. God he was enjoying this way too much. "Wow, you got a little shrill there Steven…"
"Oh that's normal," Rory said with a casual wave. Her hands were still free, Steve really had to fix that. "It'll come a point where he shouts it like Bingo and if I get him to level of mad, I've like… really won."
"Rory, I will not tell you again, get in the fucking truck," he snapped as he reached for her hands to cuff her. She let him do it without flinching or putting up a fuss. Not even a suggestive comment or look was thrown in his direction.
Probably because she was too busy complaining about the truck.
"I really don't want to get into the back of that truck, Steven. It doesn't have windows, and I'm going to get sick, I just know it."
"Rory, so help me…"
"My name is Ro, Steven. It's not that hard to remember or get right. It's two letters."
"No your name is Rowan, he changed it when he took you," he growled, he tried to herd her again and failed miserably because she simply side stepped him.
"Oh you heard about Pierce huh?" she asked and he sighed. "Did you hear about the Louvre?"
"Yes, Rory…"
"You know they still can't prove that was me."
"Rory, they found you with the Mona Lisa just hanging in your apartment. Kind of caught you red-handed."
"I bought that painting at a souvenir kiosk, I had a receipt for it. They never could actually put me in the Louvre."
"Rory. Just… come on…"
"Hold on, wait a second, you know my legal name, and my real name and you're still using the fake alias the MSS gave me after they stole me and handed me off to your mom? Why? Why are you so attached to that name Steven?" she asked and then she hit him with a smirk that looked exactly like the one Wo Fat had. "What's the matter Steven? Is it latent guilt issues, or… does someone have a crush on me?"
"SHUT UP!"
"And there it is, the Bingo," she said shooting a smile to Danny who was also smiling, because he was enjoying this situation. She then turned back to Steve with that smirk on her face again. "So which is it? Guilt or boner?"
Steve's nostrils were flaring, it was bad, so bad that Danny got in between them. "Right, let's calm down babe."
But Steve was past being nice. "Put her in the fucking truck!" he hollered at them, which didn't help the situation at all.
Danny was snickering and Rory was smiling at him in that way. Steve was past his breaking point.
He fairly picked her up and tossed her into the back of that truck where the guards were waiting to get her sitting.
He was going to do this. This was going to happen.
No matter how apprehensive he was.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Steve, at he wheel of Danny's Camaro, was the second car in the convoy on it's way up to the Correctional Facility in Kailua. There was a squad car in front of him and one in the back behind the truck.
They thought he was crazy calling this many people in, but Steve knew what Wo Fat was like. He actually wanted more than this, but this was all they would give him.
Sure, Wo Fat hadn't been around since Rory had been dropped off at the hospital. There had been no sightings, he hadn't tried to visit, and the chatter on the island was that he had left. But he had a vested interest in Rory. He had been taking care of her for years, probably because she knew so much about him and his operation. Which meant he'd at least try to get her back at some point, probably while they were moving.
Steve wanted to be ready for him. Was pretty sure he was ready for him, but Wo Fat had always been good at getting the drop on him.
It was kind of all that Wo Fat was good at.
"So… do you want to talk about it?" Danny asked.
Steve turned to him. "Talk about what?"
"What's going on with you and Ro… Rory… Rowan… damn that girl has a lot of names."
"There is nothing going on with me and Rory," Steve lied.
Danny had always been good on picking up when he was lying too. And he never had any problem calling Steve out on it either.
"That girl got you riled up in less than five seconds. I've never seen anyone get under your skin like that before… not even Mary," Danny said. "And let's not forget, before you connected her to Wo Fat you were going on about how she was your first love and all of that."
"Yeah well… that's gone now."
"No one just up and forgets their first love Steven," Danny growled. "And judging by how badly she's affecting you I'm guessing that whatever school-boy crush you had has evolved."
It had hadn't it?
It really shouldn't have. He barely knew her, and what he did know about her was horrible. But his heart had latched onto her and he couldn't get it to let go.
"No it has not," he lied again, hoping Danny would just drop it.
"You're ridiculous," Danny sighed. "You know… when Catherine left you, I thought that was the worst heart break I had seen you go through. But this… I can tell right now, this is going to be so much worse."
That was different. Steve had been about to propose to Catherine when she told him she was going off to do Helo drops for the WHO. He only found out a couple of months later, when he helped to stop a CIA data breach, that she was actually undercover for them. He had actually helped them from keeping her cover from being blown.
But even when she was originally leaving, it had been clear that Steve and whatever they had together wasn't strong enough to keep her there. Wasn't strong enough to have her happy working with him and Five-0. She needed to be needed in a way that he couldn't provide.
And as that conversation had been happening, all he had kept thinking was that Rory had just needed him. Whenever she was sad, whenever she had a bad day, all she needed was his company and she felt better.
Granted, back then, her problems and issues had been the problems and issues of a child, but still. He couldn't help but feel like Rory wouldn't have ever pulled what Catherine did. Wouldn't have chosen to be basically anywhere that wasn't where Steve was.
Except she had.
Because she was alive.
And she knew her dad had faked her death. She just didn't care. Or didn't think Steve would care, which was bullshit, of course he would care.
Though her blasé reaction to most emotional situations was definitely something she picked up from Wo Fat. The two of them were the exact same in that regard.
"Danny… just… shut up!"
He could feel Danny's smirk on him. The smile was so fucking bright he swore he could feel it leaving tan lines.
"That was not a Bingo," he added because he knew where that was going.
"It was. It so was. You may not get to her octave when I do it, but it's definitely a Bingo for me!"
At that point Steve was praying for anything that might shut Danny up, and he got it. A truck flew past them in the wrong lane. It was a nondescript white van, the kind you see in kidnapping movies. Steve was already apprehensive about it.
And he was rewarded, because it rammed right into the cop car in front of him. The squad car veered off, crashing into a ditch. Steve tried to break on the Camaro except he couldn't, which meant it slammed into the side of the van.
"Keep going!" Steve shouted into the radio, so the truck with Rory in it wouldn't stop. He needed her to get to that Correction Facility.
But he wasn't lucky.
Yes that truck went past him, with the second squad car following, but a second truck came at them head on, it slammed into that prisoner transport truck forcing it to stop. The squad car swerved, but that was when the shooting started.
From what Steve could tell there were two big shooters.
He knew there was one for sure because the van that he had hit opened up to reveal one. He and Danny had to duck under the dash to avoid the spray of whatever high-powered gun was pointing at them.
At that point they had lost visual on the transport truck and other squad car, but the shooting continued. Steve was very well aware when at least one other high-powered gun joined the other.
Steve had checked his phone but there was no service.
The radio was scrambled too.
Great. Just great, there'd be no calling for help.
They were in the process of coming up with some kind of plan when it all went quiet. Too quiet. Steve was almost afraid to move but then he heard the cocking of the gun and he had to.
Looking up he saw someone he didn't know pointing a gun in his face. And there was one on Danny's side of the car too.
"Out of the car, now," was their order.
Steve and Danny had no choice. They got out of the Camaro, they were forced to stand together, to throw their guns away, and then they were forced to watch.
Wo Fat was the first to come into view.
He just calmly walked around the transport truck, completely ignoring Steve. Normally he'd gloat a little, but, just like the file said, Wo Fat seemed to have tunnel vision and he was focusing entirely on the truck. He got it open, moved out of the way to avoid the bullets that came from the guard, and then when he could he stepped into view and shot twice.
Then, cool and calmly he put that gun back in whatever holster was under his arm and then he offered a hand up to the only person he seemed to care about.
"Daddy!"
Steve was forced to stand there and watch as Rory jumped out of the back of the truck. She went to hug Wo Fat but he grabbed onto her. With both hands framing her face, he looked down at her, his eyes seemingly searching her for something.
"Are you okay? Are you?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay," she said and then she smacked his shoulder. "What took you so long?"
Wo Fat let her go right away and rubbed his shoulder, which meant that she had hurt him with that hit. Either she hit hard, and Steve already knew that she did, or Wo Fat was injured.
"What do you mean?"
"What do I mean? Daddy!" she cried. "I've been in a hospital, by myself for almost a month! Where were you?"
Wo Fat looked around. "I was putting this together."
"Why didn't you come get me before this?!" she cried. There were a few more gun shots which made Rory jump and Wo Fat reach out for her. He actually got the gun back in his hand, but he seemingly relaxed once he saw who was jogging around the truck to join them. It was the man with the plastic rabbit mask. He was there too. Wonderful. As soon as Rory saw him she straightened. "Hi Con!"
"Hey Ro!" he said reaching out to ruffle her hair before turning to Wo Fat. "One of the officers called it in. We've got less than seven minutes before they send more people."
Wo Fat nodded and then turned back to Rory. "Alright, can we go now? We have a plane to catch. I brought you a change of clothes because I thought you'd be in a prison uniform and Mr. Buns is in the car waiting for you…"
She still had her bunny? Really?
"No! We are not good!" she cried, which was not what Wo Fat had asked her. "Why did you take so long to come and get me? Why didn't you break me out of the hospital? I was all alone, and Steve kept saying you left the island and weren't coming back… and… and… you know I have abandonment issues! Why would you leave me alone for that long?!"
At this point Rory looked like she was about to cry and Wo Fat softened to her, which was a completely foreign look. Steve couldn't take his eyes off of them, he was sure he was witnessing what he was witnessing.
"What have I always told you?" he said softly. "I know you know. I've told you over and over again…"
"That the easiest way to grab something is in transit," she intoned and Steve shook his head.
Why was that something Wo Fat was teaching her?
He watched this strange small smile appear on Wo Fat's face, like he was proud of her. "I wanted to come get you, baby girl, I did. But Steve wouldn't leave the hospital, and when he did there were cops all over the place and… you were hurt. I wanted you to be better, and you can only get that kind of care in a hospital. I didn't want to grab you and have you get hurt in the process but I knew that once you got the okay to be moved, Steve would move you. So… I waited. Okay? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to leave you for so long."
Rory smiled at him. "Did you miss me?" she asked.
"Of course I did, and Con missed you too, even if he's pretending he didn't," Wo said. "Now can we go?"
Except Rory didn't want to leave then and there. Instead she went for that hug. Steve figured Wo Fat would deflect just like before, except he didn't. The man wrapped her up in his arms right away, and then just held her close to him. He even pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
It was about the nicest he had ever seen the man be to… anything.
It almost made him look like a regular human being.
Rory pulled her head out of his chest and smiled up to him.
"Can we go home now, Daddy?" she asked in this cutesy little voice, like he hadn't just asked her twice to leave.
"Course we can," he said right away. "Why don't you go to the car and I'll deal with this…"
"Oh… well… I was hoping that we could maybe… not do things your way…"
Wo Fat frowned, looking more like the version of himself that Steve knew. "Ro… I think we both know we can't let him live. Especially since he knows now. He's not going to stop looking for you…'
"Oh nonsense," Ro said with a wave of her hand. "He has that navy girlfriend you told me about…"
"He told you about Catherine?" Steve hissed, because he couldn't understand why Wo Fat would do that to him. Other then to make sure that Rory never wanted to come back to him.
Which wasn't fair.
If she had been asking about him, wondering what he had been up to, maybe that meant she had missed him too. Had maybe wanted to come back to him… had maybe liked him back.
He would have dropped Catherine in a heartbeat for her if she had come back. Literally at any point in his life.
"His Navy girlfriend isn't with him right now. She's working for the CIA as a covert agent. It's fair to assume that they're no longer together if she's… uhm…" "—She's in Afghanistan right now," the rabbit man said.
"Right Afghanistan," Wo Fat said, and then turned to Steve. "Am I right? Are you two not together anymore?"
He was right, he just didn't know why that was important. He was actually more worried about why Wo Fat and the rabbit man were keeping track of where Catherine was. Why did that matter to them?
"They are not together right now, no," Danny answered for him.
Steve rolled his eyes as Wo Fat turned back to Rory. "There, see."
"Okay? But that doesn't mean he wants me," Rory repeated. She was right, he shouldn't want her, but he did. Oh god, he did. "He's seen me now, he knows I'm alive and that I'm good, and I'm where I'm supposed to be. I'm sure he'll be fine with letting me leave, right?"
She had directed that at him and once again he was blinded. Blinded by those blue eyes, by the emotion gripping his heart.
"No," he said softly. "He's right. I don't want you to leave."
"Okay, Steve. I'm not going to jail," she growled.
He glanced to Wo Fat. He didn't want to tell Rory how he felt with Wo Fat standing there. He didn't trust him not to taunt him. To not hurt Rory just to spite Steve.
Sure, Rory seemed to think her father loved her, and yeah, he was starting to believe it himself, but he didn't know that version of Wo Fat. He didn't believe that he was capable of loving her right. He was still sure that, if he had to, Wo Fat would hurt Rory. Either to save his own skin or to torment Steve.
Rory followed his eyes and then turned back to Wo Fat. "Do you think we could have a moment alone?"
"Hell no," came out of both men standing with her and she just rolled her eyes.
"Ro, this is not a good idea. The man is too unpredictable where you're involved, okay? I would feel more comfortable if we got in the car… especially since the cops are on their way."
"Just a minute? We can handcuff him to the car. How about that?"
Wo Fat sighed. He seemed to have already caved to not killing Steve, if he caved to this too, Steve might be so shocked that he'd drop then and there.
"Fine, but you have a minute. Literally 60 seconds, or I will leave you," he warned.
Oh my god. He had caved.
"Nu-uh, you'd never," she said with a smirk on her face. Wo Fat reached out to pinch her chin in what had to be an affectionate way. "Help me handcuff him?"
Steve was just in shock at this. Who the fuck was this man? He couldn't be the same Wo Fat that Steve had been dealing with for five years. Yeah, his face was burned in the same way, and he looked and sounded the same, but it couldn't be the same man.
Steve had no choice but to obey though, because both Wo Fat and the man in the rabbit mask had guns and he didn't. Danny was thrown into the back of the Camaro, handcuffed, and Steve was handcuffed to the Camaro door and finally Wo Fat left Rory's side.
As soon as she was gone she turned back to him. "Can you be honest with me?" she asked softly. "I'll be honest with you if you're honest with me."
Steve nodded, he could definitely try to be honest, but he didn't want to give away too much, open himself up to rejection and pain.
He just wasn't sure he could take it.
"Do you want to keep me to send me to jail, or for another reason?"
"I never forgot about you," Steve whispered. He couldn't bring himself to answer her question, to tell her that he wanted to keep her forever. To love her, to kiss her, to keep her. "Loosing you really hurt me Rory. Like… it did damage. I was so happy to find you alive and now you're… I mean look at you…"
She looked down to herself and then back up to him. "Why do you really want me to stay, Steven?"
"Because I missed you. Because I… I like… liked…"
"He loves you, you idiot!" Danny called from in the car and Steve pounded on the glass to shut him up.
Rory seemed to take that in. At first her eyes were wide with this little smile on her face, but then it faded right off of her face.
"You love Rory… not me," she said. "I mean, you don't even have my name right, Steven."
"I… I mean…"
"And let's face it. You don't want to get to know me. I'm not your Rory. I'm Ro, and I'm Wo Fat's daughter and you two hate each other and there's no way that you're going to see me as anything else. Right?"
He didn't want to admit it, but she was kind of right. He was having a really hard time separating her from Wo Fat, and after this… well it was going to be impossible.
But he couldn't forgive Wo Fat for the pain he had caused Steve's family. He just couldn't. Even if that meant he got to have his Rory back.
"See, you know I'm right."
"Okay, so maybe we'd have problems, but… I mean… we'll never get over them if you leave."
"Yeah, except, if I stay, you're going to put me in a jail…" she reminded him and he sighed. "Putting a girl in jail is not the way to her heart, Steven."
Steve hung his head. She had a point, but honestly how else was he going to get her to crack on Wo Fat's whereabouts. Though, if she had known that he'd make a move while she was in transit that might not have mattered. She clearly knew he was still on the island.
And all the rumours were true. Wo Fat truly did care about Rory. And here Steve thought he'd be incapable.
"Please don't do this to us again," Steve found himself whispering. "All of us were hurt, it wasn't just me. Mary… My dad…"
Rory blew a raspberry at him. "Your dad knew I was alive."
Wait what?
She clocked his confused stare and she frowned at him. "You found your mom, right?" Yes, yes he had, how had she know that? "Well, she knew I was alive, so I'm sure she told him. I'm surprised she didn't tell you."
So was Steve actually.
If he ever found his mother again, he'd have to ask her.
"Fine. Just me then, please don't do this to me again."
He stared down into the familiar blue eyes of hers, hoping she could see how much he needed her to stay. He needed her there with him so he could figure out what it was that was going on between them.
He just couldn't lose her again.
Rory moved, crossing the space between him, she got on her very tippy toes. He knew right away that she was angling to kiss him, and though he shouldn't have, he found himself lowering to meet her.
Kissing her when he was younger had been nothing compared to this. They were more experienced now, they knew what to do, where to hold onto one another. His one free arm wrapped around her. She had a hand over his heart and the other in his hair.
He was seeing sparks and fireworks. His heart was practically bursting in his chest.
He needed more of this. All of her. God he wouldn't be able to let her go after this, he just wouldn't.
"I'm sorry," she whispered against his lips. "But… I love my family… even if they are the bad guys."
Steve found his forehead resting against hers. A whimper escaped him. "Please don't leave me again."
She whispered that apology again, but he didn't need an apology, he needed to keep kissing her.
"What the hell are you doing?"
Rory turned around to find Wo Fat glaring at them, his hands on his hips. "We have the cops coming, can't you hear the sirens? Are you're sucking face?"
Rory let him go right away and Steve's body immediately began to mourn the absence. He held onto her arm with his free hand. Please, god, he couldn't let her leave again.
"I'm sorry, I was just saying goodbye…"
"With your tongue?" Wo Fat snapped. He had reached them at that point, he reached out right away to get Steve to let go. He had to actually twist his wrist. "Let go already!"
Steve lost his hold on Rory, was forced to watch as Wo Fat dragged her away. She called a Good-bye Steven over her shoulder as he dragged her around the transport truck to where their getaway car was waiting.
Steve was powerless to do anything.
Instead he stood there, handcuffed to the Camaro, chest heaving, heart breaking all over again. Knowing that no matter how badly this had ended, and how entrenched she was in Wo Fat's life, he was still in love with Rory.
By the times the cops arrived on the screen Wo Fat, the rabbit man and Rory were long gone. Though he knew that Wo Fat had a plane waiting for them somewhere, despite alerting TSA and having cops go to all the private airfields, but there was no sign of them. Anywhere.
And just like that. Rory disappeared again.
