Chapter Six

Vampire attack

Both of them were breathing heavily as they stood in silence, trying to listen for any noise coming from outside. The sound of raindrops and the beating of their hearts was all that could be heard in the room.

About twenty minutes later, the two girls stopped breathing when they saw the door handle start to turn slowly. Someone was trying to open it, but couldn't because of all the effort they had put into locking it.

There was a grunt and the person started to push harder, making the furniture creak.

"They're here."

The two friends exchanged a glance at the sound of the male voice. Tomoyo took the safety off the gun, pointing it at the door.

Suddenly, one of the windows exploded into a thousand pieces and a man came through it, hanging from a rope.

Sakura and Tomoyo screamed and started shooting at him. He was carrying a car door in his right hand, using it as a shield as he approached them.

"Did you get in, Syaoran?" asked the voice from outside the room.

"Yes, it's only two humans. Push harder and get inside at once," he replied as he continued to advance towards where Sakura and Tomoyo were, covering his body with the metal door to avoid their bullets and arrows.

The two ran out of ammunition and looked at each other with terrified eyes. They pulled out the knife and a stake and stood up, ready to pounce on their enemy.

Syaoran, realising that they were out of bullets and arrows, threw the door aside and gave them an evil grin as he pulled an arrow out of his leg.

Sakura was petrified to see that his eyes were not red. They were a deep amber colour, something impossible for a vampire. Raindrops fell from his chocolate-coloured hair, running down his black clothes until they finally hit the floor.

At that moment, she was sure that the figure watching her that night from the building across the street was him.

"Are you a human?" Tomoyo asked in confusion.

Syaoran shook his head, still smirking. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them again, his irises were scarlet red.

They both knew that their only chance was to finish him off before the rest of the vampires got inside, and try to escape through the window using the rope he had left there.

Sakura held the knife tightly in her right hand and leapt at him.

Syaoran managed to grab her easily and pushed her to the floor. Sakura groaned as she felt the blow, and just then the vampires that were in the hallway entered the room.

They glanced at Tomoyo and started to run towards her. She smiled darkly and threw the dagger, plunging it right into the heart of one of them.

The man fell to the ground, screaming in pain. A woman crouched down beside him and pulled the knife out of his chest.

"Relax, it's not made of wood. You'll recover in a few minutes," she whispered as she gave Tomoyo a look of hatred.

Once they managed to restrain Tomoyo, tying her arms, Syaoran shouted.

"Wait!"

The four vampires turned towards him, baring their fangs.

"I don't want her to die, at least not until we interrogate her. Take her to the cave and see that she comes to no harm, or there will be consequences when I arrive," he said, scowling at them.

The four growled, but hid their fangs and nodded.

One of them bound Tomoyo hand and foot, putting a blindfold over her eyes. He lifted her up, slinging her over his shoulder, and carried her away. The woman stopped beside the man who was still on the floor, helping him up, and they left the room as well.

"No! Tomoyo!" Sakura shrieked, trying to free herself from Syaoran's grip.

He grabbed her shoulders, slamming her to the floor again. She gasped at the pain in her back, but didn't look away from his face.

"I'm the one who killed them. Do what you want with me, but let my friend go," she muttered, her voice dripping with hatred.

"So it was you... you killed three of my people, not counting the one your friend shot yesterday," he replied, looking her in the eye.

"They killed my best friend."

Syaoran snorted, rolling his eyes.

"That doesn't change anything, though I understand you wanted revenge."

Since he was holding her by the shoulders, Sakura was slowly moving her right hand to where she had the gun Tomoyo had given her. She hadn't thought about it until that moment.

Syaoran was so distracted watching her that he hadn't noticed.

In half a second, she pulled out the gun and placed it where his heart was.

"Let go of me or I'll pull the trigger," she warned him, smirking.

The vampire smiled back and blinked several times. His eyes turned amber again.

"You're very brave. I like that," he said, his gaze fixed on her.

"Didn't you hear me? Get off me or I'll kill you," Sakura repeated, pushing the gun against his chest.

"Would you really murder me in cold blood? I haven't done anything to you... yet," Syaoran murmured with a mischievous grin.

"I'm a vampire slayer and I don't feel anything when I take the lives of monsters like you," she replied, frowning.

Syaoran released her shoulders, placing his arms on either side of her head.

"You and your friend have a funny way of covering your scent, but it's quite effective," he whispered, brushing away the remaining mud on her neck with his fingers.

She was staring into his amber eyes.

"Can you make your eyes change colour?"

She was very curious, but her finger was still on the trigger.

"Have you never seen a pure-blooded vampire before?" Syaoran asked, glancing at her again.

"Pureblood?" Sakura repeated, frowning.

"I was born this way. My mother was human and my father was a vampire. People like me have a lot of strength, and she died in childbirth," Syaoran replied, pressing his nose to her throat.

Sakura flinched, but it surprised her that this vampire was able to control himself and not bite her. As far as she knew, none of them were capable of suppressing their bloodlust.

"I didn't know that could happen," she whispered, tensing as his nose brushed her skin.

He inhaled sharply and her scent permeated his entire being. His mouth watered.

"I've never encountered a human that smelled like you before," he murmured, raising his head again.

His eyes were red now and she could see his fangs when he spoke.

"Let go of me at once, last warning," she said, clenching the gun in her fingers.

Syaoran smiled again at how fast her heart was beating.

"Relax, I'm not going to kill you."

"I can't say the same."

Just as she was about to pull the trigger, Syaoran jerked and snatched the gun away from her, throwing it far away.

"Looks like I'm not the only one who gets distracted," he commented, grabbing her shoulders again.

Sakura thought about the stake in her belt. Maybe she could grab it in time.

"I wouldn't do that," Syaoran muttered, guessing her thoughts.

He pulled out the stake and threw it across the room, grimacing as he touched it.

Sakura shook herself, trying to escape, but he grabbed both of her arms and caught her using the weight of his body. He was lying completely on top of her.

"In answer to your question, my eyes only turn red when I get angry or when I feel like biting someone," the vampire growled, not taking his eyes off her neck.

She gasped and tried to headbutt him. Syaoran pulled away just in time, bringing his face back to hers and smirking.

"I'm much stronger than a regular vampire. You're not going to be able to defeat me, so you should give up."

Sakura glared at him.

"All right. Stop playing games and kill me already," she grunted, clenching her fists.

Syaoran laughed softly.

"I've already told you you're not going to die, though I can't hold back anymore... you smell amazing and I want to taste you."

He lowered his head to her throat and she squirmed, but it was no use. Sakura felt his fangs piercing her skin and cried out in pain.

Soon after, he raised his head to look at her again, a few drops of blood trickling down his chin.

"Your blood is delicious, I thought I wouldn't be able to stop."

Sakura looked away, trying to control her breathing. The bite hurt like hell and her strength was failing her. Syaoran sighed and pulled away from her, wiping the blood away with the back of his hand.

He bit down on his own wrist and brought it to her lips.

"Here, drink some of my blood."

Sakura turned her head the other way, gritting her teeth.

"I'd rather die," she said, closing her eyes and holding in the sharp pain in her neck.

Syaoran held her head with one hand, pressing his other wrist against her lips as he held her nose.

"I told you to drink. Do it."

Sakura had no choice but to open her mouth to breathe and his blood entered her.

She tried to spit it out, but she couldn't help swallowing a little. Instantly, she felt the bite on her throat stop hurting.

Syaoran withdrew his arm from her mouth and shook it a little as the cut he'd given himself closed. She put a hand to her neck and noticed that the wound had closed completely. She stared at the vampire, her eyes widening.

"You didn't know that the blood of pure vampires can heal humans either, did you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Why did you do that?"

Syaoran shrugged.

"I prefer humans to be alive. Food is scarce and it's better if you don't die," he replied as he sat up.

He held out a hand and helped Sakura up. She averted her gaze to the weapons lying around the room, but Syaoran shook his head.

"Don't even think about it," he growled, baring his fangs at her.

"What are you going to do with me?" she asked, looking into his eyes.

Syaoran blinked and they changed back to amber. He approached Sakura and grabbed her shoulders, pulling her close and forcing her to walk.

"Just don't resist and everything will be easier for you," he whispered as they walked down the stairs.
