? P.O.V

How fragile is a bond?

How strong is it?

What defines how important it is?

So easily words come out with promises to the moon.

Yet very rarely it follows through when the time comes for those words to bare fruit.

It's so easy to lose.

So difficult to gain.

Does friendship truly matter in the end?

When time has eroded all but the soul.

Memories are nothing more than a painful reminder of what once was. And a false promise of what could been.

3rd P.O.V

Maybe Allen shouldn't have took up Lavi's offer. "Wait-you're related to the Noahs'?" Because of course, it didn't take long for the white haired teen-who's been hit with so many overwhelming discoveries, and in general was a mess of guilt from doing his little disappearing act to cave.

"My uncle had married into the family, but he died shortly after my father-so I never met him." But only about why he was sneaking in and out of the mansion. Why he came back even after the Halloween party. "Huh, small world." Not the fact that that he could see ghosts.

Or that he was specifically requested by members of the deceased aristocrats themselves to investigate. "But that still doesn't explain why you decided to snoop. I mean, at the Halloween party-we nearly got out of that unscathed with the cops. Anyone finds out you're there-and that's it."

As promised the two were given leftover yakisoba(with Lavi getting a kick to the head for complaining about it not being fresh to his grandpa) and hot chocolate. Though at this point Lavi's plate and cup remain untouched.

Too invested in figuring out what was going on with his friend. "I know...but, at some point after the party, I had a dream of the day my father died. And, there were details that I had forgotten about." Silver eyes took a glance to the side. Seeking the bright moon already out in the sky.

"I remember I was going with my father to go meet Neah for the first time. We never made it there, but at some point while I was unconscious and recovering-my last name was changed. My father's connection to me gone. And shortly after my uncle and the mansion went up in smoke."

Easily Bookman Junior could see where his friend was going with the information. "You think all that is connected. And you want to find out what's up." His reply was a weak shrug. As if his answer wasn't all that sure.

"I don't know what I'm really searching for. But...thinking back on what was going on, it didn't seem right. Plus my father's killer tried burning me alive only to disappear to never be caught." Now that was all new to Lavi.

Allen had vaguely mentioned his father passing away(which would explain why he was living with someone as awful as Cross) but murdered? And then the both of them set on fire?! "Never mentioned that..." His friend gives him a wry smile.

Expecting that reaction. "It's not really the first thing one mentions when first meeting someone. Besides...like I said, there was some details from that night that are fuzzy. I know there was a man with a gun, who tried burning me alive after watchi-" Immediately he cuts himself off.

Shaking his head-as if trying to get rid of the memory. Not at all looking to see that green eye full of concern and horror. He could feel those burning emotions from him all the same. Though despite the need to fidget from the scrutiny he continues.

"Anyways, the fact that my father died weeks before the Noah fire, it doesn't feel like a coincidence. Especially with the fact that the bodies went missing. Even if it means getting in trouble, if maybe there was a connection-I want to find it." Closure...

That was the word that came to Lavi's mind as he listened on. And now some of Allen's unusual behaviors make sense. At the very least why he's wear gloves, pants and long sleeves all year round. And why he decided to take a risk and keep going to the mansion.

Especially since he was so adamant about not going before. "Have you figured out anything yet?" Now here comes the tricky part Allen was worried about. How to explain his findings without revealing his biggest secret.

And without being called out on lying. Out of all his friends, Lavi was by far the most difficult to bluff. Sure sometimes he'll go along with the lie, pretending he believes it-something that's gotten them out of trouble before. But in the end he'll know.

And for a situation as potentially dangerous as this one, Allen could tell he wasn't going to stand for any bullshit. He wants answers, he wants them to be true , and he wants them now. So he has to be very careful with his wording...

"Not too much i'm afraid. I've been going through some of the various books found in the mansion as well as asking around town for information on them. And well, i'm learning interesting tidbits-but nothing to actually help me conclude on what exactly happened." That all was the truth.

As sad as it sounds with how many hours upon days Allen spent researching, all of it lead to dead ends. Because of course, nothing was ever easy. Every trail, each person he interviewed(who actually was willing to answer him) every damn book gave him practically the same conclusion.

The aristocratic family, despite the endless riches, were good, honest people who were very close to one another. Even those married into it. There was not a person who could've wanted them dead. Let alone set their home on fire.

All the diaries, journals all spoke of mundane things that really didn't throw any clues on potential perpetrators. And those were the ones that were readable, intact. There was no mentions of ghosts, visions of the past thanks to looking into said ghost's memories and most definitely no mention of Cross.

Though that was going to be a problem very soon. He couldn't hold off going home forever-as much as he'd love to. Especially with how worse Anita has been looking lately. Not to mention, he had to get to the bottom of Cross's involvement.

Neah had told him, after finding out he was living with the man to drop the investigation entirely. That it was too dangerous and to leave the sleeping dogs that was the past be. Live to age eighteen and get the hell away from the drunk dead beat.

'Listen to me Allen, I don't know why you're living with Cross, but you do your best to stay the hell away. You mentioned he doesn't know about your ability? Keep it that way, because if there's even a hint of him finding out, I don't have a doubt in my mind he'll have you joining us on the other side.'

In general he never really stayed in his guardian's presence simply because he was an asshole...but now it was because he was afraid. But no matter how much he wanted to take his uncle's advice, he couldn't.

Because what he saw through Neah's memory and Cross's reaction to the Noah Mansion just didn't add up. That day he accidently brought up his curiosity, and questioned Cross, the man reacted violently.

'How dare you bring up the Noahs! You piece of shit-you know nothing about them. They didn't deserve the fate they did, so don't go poking your fucking little nose into their disappearance like a gossiping vulture!'

Did he say that-and punch Allen black and blue to try and cover up his involvement? Why say they didn't deserve the fate they did if he was the one who caused it? "Helllooooo~" Immediately jumped back as he was mere centimeters away from Lavi.

Smacking his head against the dresser he was sitting against. "Whoa you alright? Didn't mean to spook you but you've been sitting there, ignoring me for like five minutes now. What's up?" Allen's really got to learn not to let his mind wander, specially with company.

"Sorry was just lost in thought. It's been a long day." Fortunately it was another true answer, though his companion was still skeptical. "Uh huh. Well if you want to sleep on the floor, I won't stop you, but I've got a bed calling my name. And a couch calling yours." With a small nod, Allen rises to his feet.

Stretching his arms above his head, only to wince shortly afterwards. Man he was stiff. "Sounds good to me, I'm beat...wait-what do you mean I get the couch! I'm the guest." His friend laughs at him, absolutely amused with the frowning, puffed out cheeks Allen was sporting.

It was so easy to rile him up. "Guest, smest-my house, bed belongs to me. Besides i'll need all the sleep I can get if I'm going to help you be sneaky and investigate." Oh...well, that doesn't bode well now does it?

"You're...going to help me?" A Cheshire smirk with a gleaming green eyes replies back. "Why not? Sounds like it'll be one hell of an adventure, plus we're friends and this means a lot to you. Why wouldn't I? I know Lena Lady and-to a lesser extent Kanda would too." This couldn't be happening.

There's no way he's going to be able to do any of his usual tricks if they're around. "You don't have to. This...this isn't something that you and the others should get involved in." Even worse, if they find out.

If they reject him, he'd fall apart. "I want to, like I said this is important to you, so it's important to me too. Besides, I'm already involved with the fact that I found something interesting in that little office study, place we were locked in earlier." Already Allen could feel a headache coming along.

He needed to tell Lavi to stop. That this wasn't something he had to get involved in. But of course, a sigh escapes him as he admits defeat. "What did you find?" The plot thickens. "I found a book that had a deconstructed family tree, with this little will hidden within the pages."

With a new lead came with new surprises. "Show me." Both of them had secrets hidden away, but those thoughts, and other discussion topics were put(temporarily) on hold as Allen gets a look at the aged paper. His eyes widening in surprise.
