Deadly Secrets
Chapter 13
Author Notes: Here we are with another chapter. Sorry to say folks it's not going to be getting any prettier from here. So let's get the show on the road. I do not own DGM.

"Keep walking boy." Allen gritted his teeth as he was shoved forward. Still blindfolded, unable to see a damn thing as he's forced to move in whatever direction his kidnappers wanted him. Which was fine so long as they didn't have to turn or go down stairs.
Of course though, as if to curse him or make his life difficult, they had to go down stairs. With poor Allen not being told and nearly falling down them were it not for a rough hand grabbing his arm. Digging painfully in so he doesn't go headfirst. "Why are we down here Lvellie?"
So the person who kept Allen upright was Cross...frankly the teen wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing since he was here in the first place because of the man. It wasn't a surprise at this point, since his bastard guardian has put him in tons of danger in the past.
But the anxiety for what's to come and the anger hasn't at all faded. However, unless his hearing was failing him, or his misreading the tense, iron grip on his arm was any indication-the red haired drunkard was angry.
A dangerous undertone in his question. "You told me ten years ago that you had searched high and low for Adam's riches, only to never find it correct?" Allen winced-not that anyone could tell...his eyes were still covered, as the hand on his arm tightened even more.
No doubt there were going to be bruises...provided he survived this. "Yeah. What of it?" Lvellie simply gave a hum as the teen was jerked to a stop, thankfully on flat ground. Seems they finally got off the steps.
"You didn't mention there was a secret door down here that required a special key. Specifically the Noah Mask." Harsh footsteps grew louder before the cloth wrapped around Allen's head was finally removed, allowing him to see an aged brunette with cold, cruel eyes.
He wanted to backpedal, to flinch away, but he was stuck. Though instead of Cross being the one keeping him there, it was a silent blond haired man. Holding his shoulder, as wrinkled, calloused fingers reached, pulling at the chain around Allen's neck.
Tugging far more than he needed to, the sadistic prick. "This necklace...is passed down from generation to generation in the Noah clan. Showing proof of succession." Now that was news Allen was NOT aware of.
When Neah gave it to him, the teen had assumed it was a parting gift his uncle received from Mana. Or a good luck charm from Lulubell-not the sole proof of his heritage! "Where'd you get it boy? Like Cross i've searched every nook and cranny-and never stumbled upon this."
This was bad-this...this was really really bad. "I-I found it in one of the bedrooms." He couldn't outright say he got it from his dead uncle. Sure Lvellie and his companion may smile in brief amusement-it won't take long for them to get angry.
And Allen knew at least one of them had a gun on them, especially if his guardian was pale and wary with the two men. Cross feared only two things-cops and debt collectors. And the uniforms this pair of stone cold individuals was an easy indicator which one they were.
The uniforms were also a good indication that they don't intend either him or Cross walking out alive. "Which one? There are quite a few here after all." Allen was shaking now. His mind was ringing as fear coursed through his veins.
Lvellie's tone was kind, soft, something akin to that of a doting father-like Mana. But there was no warmth in his smile, his gaze was predatory, analyzing him from head to toe. With dry lips, Allen had no choice but to answer.
Especially as he glanced Cross's way. Even when hidden beneath his hair and glasses, their gazes met, the elder male silently telling him to be honest. It'll be less painful that way. "The...the one with the old piano. On one of the upper floors."
It was the best answer he could give with the situation at hand. Yet despite the truthful answer, the policeman was still keeping his eyes on him, making his skin prickle with goosebumps before laughing. A sharp, short bellow.
"The piano room? Neah's? Oh what a surprise! I should've expected as such. A clever man that Neah was. Even when in the midst of danger he always was prepared for anything. To think he would hide his necklace away and wear a fake." At that Lvellie smacked his knee.
Looking absolutely entertained with the thought for a moment before stopping abruptly. Pulling out a gun and pointing it towards Allen. "Though I have to say...that answer puzzles me. Cross...you told me that you had Neah's necklace after killing him. So why does he have it?"
Why was this happening? What did Allen do to deserve this?
Twenty-four hours ago...
Homework was such a pain in the ass. "How's Anita doing Miranda?" His deceased surrogate aunt fades in the moment she hears his question, taking a quick glance at the series of mathematical equations Allen has to do.
"She's finally asleep, and peacefully at that." It was a relief. All of last night she had been coughing and fighting a harsh fever. There was no doubt she was exhausted. "You should get some rest as well Allen..." And so was the fifteen year old taking care of her.
Miranda gave him a surprisingly smug look as he yawned. Proving her point perfectly. "After my homework is done. I've been holding it off and my teachers are getting on my case about it. Is this one right?" Huffing the spirit gazes down again.
Shaking her head, making the teen groan as he lays his chin on the table. "Ugh." Just because he said he was going to get it done doesn't mean he wanted to or liked it. "You mixed up towards the middle section-oh! I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean it like that..."
Immediately Allen smiled, reassuring the poor woman that no she was not being rude. That it was fine and he was actually grateful that she pointed out his flaw. It took a good couple minutes for her to calm down and for him to resume his assignment, but it was fine.
It made the home less quiet, more 'lively' as ironic as it sounded in his head. "So how did it go at the Noah's home and Lavi's the other day? With how things were with my sister I never had the chance to ask." Red and silver eyes squinted as he read silently the next problem.
Taking a minute before answering. "Chaotic to say the least. I saw a...memory of my uncle Neah's and it wasn't exactly pleasant. Then he gifted me a necklace he had before telling me to drop the investigation. That I should let sleeping dogs lay."
It left him confused and frustrated to be honest. Road and Lulubell desperately wanted him to help bring peace to the rest of their family, a family that for the most part have left him be. But they were angry...angry and dangerous.
Then Neah meanwhile wants him to stop before he does something stupid or get into trouble. And then there was the will- "Lavi also found an old will that looks like it was written by Adam." At that Miranda's eyes widen in surprise.
"Really? I know there was a time or two before the fire that Cross mentioned him and a few others assisting him with documents. But I had no idea Adam had a will." It made sense. The Noah's were rich and famous.
Practically celebrities in the small town. And with a family so large with probably a lot of clients and friends, Adam would've wanted whoever he felt deserved his property. As well as many enemies who would've wanted their greedy little hands it.
If the faded but still miraculously legible and long piece of parchment was any indication, there was a lot of people getting a lot of stuff. Which reminded him... "One of the lines had actually caught my attention. Did Cross ever talk about something called 'The Noah's Mask?"
Her brows scrunched up in thought. Pondering in silence for a few minutes before shaking her head with a small sigh. "No. Nothing is coming to mind. If he did than it was a long time ago. I'm sorry." Well that figures.
"It was worth a shot." Nothing was ever easy when it came to that family. Any miraculous step is met with confusion forcing two steps back. Still Allen wasn't one to give up, regardless of how difficult things seem.
Even though his name...was a lie-he was a Walker. Walkers don't stop walking. It was a nice, optimistic mantra that he kept close on the worst of days, and despite technically being a Cambell-even more technically a Noah, Allen Walker had a nice ring to it.
He's used it the last ten years, why bother changing it now? "How about this one?" Once again the spirit skimmed through the equation, but just as she opened her mouth, about to tell him that he got it right, someone banged on the door.
"Eep!" Startled the transparent woman vanished, hiding away as Allen got up off his chair, cracking his back as he stretched. "Wonder who that could be?" Immediately he was suspicious and on high alert.
No one around this part of town knocked. Either they were friends that waltzed in, greeting the...'family.' Or they were bastards trying to sneak in and steal whatever food or money they had. No matter what, Allen knew it wasn't Kloud, Cross or even Mahoja(She was the most polite of the bunch after all.)
So he quieted his steps, leaning on the wall next to the door, listening silently as Miranda reappeared. Shuffling mid air she meets his gaze before nodding her head. Going through the walls to see who's on the other side.
"Looks like a pair of police officers-and neither look happy." Well isn't that just dandy. "Hello! Police." At the Allen scrunches his face in distaste. "Just a second." He didn't know why they are here, but he could make a good assumption. Let's see what his idiot guardian did this time.
So swiftly he plastered on his most polite-fake smile possible before opening the door. "Hello sirs, how may I help you?" He recognized the pair in an instant, ruining his mood even more. Remembering how quickly they busted Lavi's Halloween party.
These two pricks had given them an hour to clean the mansion and leave or they would've had their asses arrested with phone calls home on their terrible life choices. "Is an Anita Marian present?"
Allen didn't like cops in general considering how unhelpful they've been in the past, but he definitely didn't like these two. Despite that he kept up his respectful guise. "I'm afraid Anita is out, but perhaps I could be of assistance? My name is Allen Walker." There was no way he was getting her.
She had just fallen to sleep-like hell he was going to disturb her over Cross. "I was hoping she would be here-but I suppose you'll have to do." Now that was quite rude. "Is something wrong?" Miranda watched the two men warily, not really liking them either.
More so the elder man with his hate filled gaze. Though his younger, blond haired companion wasn't so pleasant either with the monotone attitude. "I was wondering if you could come with us to identify someone." Easily both the teen and ghost could tell where this was going, but they remained silent.
Letting Mr. 'Link' continue. "A man was found collapsed on the side of the road, and his license gave us this address and medical record. But we would like confirmation that this man is 'Cross Marian." How lovely...
"Of course, just give me a moment to grab my jacket." Guess his homework would have to wait after all. It's not like he really cares about school anyways- "Allen!" He had his back turned against the men for one second.
And that was all it took for them to get the jump on him. Covering his nose and mouth with a strongly scented rag. "Mm!" One that struck his senses, blurring his vision before he passed out completely. "No! ALLEN!" Unable to do a thing as he was carried off.
to be continued
