Deadly Secrets

Chapter 15

Author Notes: We're near the end my friends. Just a few more chapters to go and that's another story done for the records. So let's get on with it, I do not own DGM.

3rd P.O.V

"I'm telling you-my friend is missing!" Lavi was ready to smack the policeman's desk in fury. Why couldn't this moron listen? "Look I can't do anything until the person has been verified to be missing over twenty-four hours." Lenalee bit her lip as Kanda's eye twitches.

It was only a matter of time before her Japanese friend goes ballistic, and she couldn't fault him for that. At this point she was praying Lavi would make the officer see reason. That there is a serious problem. And that problem revolves around Allen Walker.

But the expression officer 'Chang' was sporting said he was done with this conversation. "Look-he's BEEN missing for a day and a half. He's not picking up his phone and his guardian says she hasn't seen him. He's not the type to disappear. Especially without a damn note for her."

There was a painful twist in Lavi's stomach. He's been feeling nauseous ever since Anita called him, asking if HE had seen or heard from Allen. "I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do." It was bullshit. This guy just didn't want to bother.

He was looking for whatever excuse he can scrounge up to get them to leave. Frankly it wasn't happening. They'd do whatever it takes if it means getting someone to give a damn and help them. "What seems to be the problem here?" And that opportunity came.

Hope shined through their hearts as an elder man approaches, the blue uniform and badge being enough of an indicator as to who he was. "O-officer Yeager sir! Er. These children were-" Oh no, Kanda wasn't letting this chance slip away.

Not when the gray haired policeman was looking at them. Actually seeming to give a damn. "Our friend is missing. His guardian has been calling around and no ones seen him. We need help looking for him."

Yeager's eyes widen a fraction, conveying concern. "I see. Give me a moment to see if I can gather a few volunteers." Finally. "Wh-but sir! Are you sure that's a good idea?!" This was the best the trio was going to get. None of them, not even Lenalee could only back the smuggest smiles from their faces.

There was something satisfying watching the old man glare at his co-worker. And said co-worker breaking out in an embarrassed red flush before busting out in irritable hives. If this Chang guy just listened and offered to help them search-he wouldn't be in this position.

"Do you honestly think these three would be wasting their time speaking to you about a missing friend if it wasn't serious? I've been watching and listening to their concerns and if what they say is true, than this is a serious matter."

Lavi sagged his shoulders in pure relief. Common sense was at its' finest as Mr. Yeager stared Mr. Chang down. "Bu-but what if this is a simple fluke? We've had multiple instances where it was a simple matter." The gray haired officer simply waves his hand.

Flippantly flapping his younger colleague's concerns away. "Then it is a simple fluke, but I would rather double check and find that out-then leave someone potentially in trouble to their fate. In a few minutes, I'll be back and I'll be asking you three some questions." The clock was ticking.

However these few moments would mean a hell of a lot in the long wrong if they can get more people involved. Lenalee and Kanda's siblings are already in town asking around. While Lavi's grandfather was helping Anita with making phone calls.

"Well we haven't seen you in ages so I've been wanting to catch up-plus my house is closer. I don't really feel right letting you walk home with how dark it is." Usually Allen would simply wave his hand, stating that things would be fine.

That this wasn't the first time he's had to trek through the dark. Then he would go on a mini story on something that happened that would leave Lavi collapsing on the floor laughing...questioning if it was a true story or not. Yet that didn't come. "Would your grandfather mind?"

Instead his younger classmate was unable to meet his gaze, gently holding his left arm. "Not at all." It left the ginger even more concerned. Wrapping one arm around the shorter teen, he grinned. Mentally cringing at just how skinny-how bony Allen was.

"Come on-let's go get warmed up! I'll have the Old Panda whip us up some yakisoba and hot chocolate~" The two share a small laugh. With one green eye warily staring at the necklace. Unable to really ignore it. It was definitely a new addition, and a unique one at that.

Now Lavi wasn't too knowledgeable on metals, but it looked like it was made of stainless silver. A mask design of some sort carefully interwoven with a thin, matching chain. "What's with the new fashion accessory? Looks nice."

Immediately a gloved hand reaches up, clutching it gently as if trying to hide it. Or remembering it was even there.

"It was a gift, that I couldn't really refuse..."

Since that dreaded phone call, Lavi has been replaying his interactions with Allen over and over again. Making use of his perfect memory to find some hints of what went wrong. Of why they got to this point.

"Hey Lavi? Would you be mad if I was hiding things?"

At this point the senior was ready to say yes! If for nothing else than for Allen stressing him out like this. There was too many things to worry about and no answers in sight. Where did he get the necklace? And why was he so nervous going home that night?

Those questions were just the tip of the iceberg for what Lavi wanted to ask. But of course, Lavi when asked that question had answered with an easy going shrug while grinning at the super skinny, scarred teen.

"No. We all got our secrets. If you don't want to talk about it you don't have to."

Back then it seemed like the right thing to say. He had only known the freshman for a few months, that really wasn't a lot of time for them to be considered the best of friends under normal circumstances.

Let alone confess super important secrets. But he could tell Allen was guilty for hiding away stuff. So Lavi simply eased his concerns, wanting him to smile and relax. And he did. "So you believe he was troubled before he disappeared?" Lavi scrunched his face in thought as Yeager took down notes.

"He definitely wasn't acting right. Something was bothering him, it felt like he was constantly looking over his shoulder. And then there's his rocky relationship with his guardian Cross." No matter what he would find him.

Because Lavi knew damn sure that if their roles were reversed, or hell even if it was a stranger on the street-Allen would do whatever he could to help. "Cross Marian is known for causing quite a bit of trouble around town. Do you think he could be involved?" Did he?

Automatically his mind replays the day he saw Allen get beat up by his guardian. It was back when he first decided he would investigate Allen after the Halloween party. Even though he didn't voice it, the one eyed ginger knew something was up.

Only waiting till Lenalee voiced it before deciding to see what was going on. "It's possible, Anita mentioned Cross wasn't there, but apparently he's always out." It could be a coincidence that both Allen and his guardian were gone at the same time. If anything that's normal.

Still that sickening feeling wasn't leaving any time soon. "Alright then. Shall we-" Immediately Officer Yeager's question was cut off with a shrilly ring. Lavi immediately grabbed his phone, his eyes lighting up as he read the caller ID.

"It's Allen!" Relief bloomed in the teen's chest, his finger pressing the green button. "Hello? Is this Lavi Bookman?" But it wasn't Allen on the other line. "Who is this!?" Mr. Yeager gave Lavi a pointed look, indicating to put the caller on speaker.

So as carefully as possible he does. "Who this is doesn't matter. What Does matter is Allen needs help!" The voice sounded young, a girl, though it was kind of hard to tell as she was whispering.

Still...it sounded familiar. "I'll try to keep the phone on for as long as possible but it's ready to die. You need to come to the Noah Mansion." But that and why she had Allen's phone was pushed to the side. "But we already checked there!" That was literally the first place they checked.

The little team of three had screamed and shouted for ages, checked all the floors...Allen did not respond-let alone reveal himself. Though that didn't stop any of them from rushing outside towards the cars.

"There's a secret section that hides Adam Noah's riches down in the basement. Malcom plans on killing all individuals involved with the Noahs there!"

to be continued
