Allen was so tired. "Isn't this a a beautiful sight." Maybe he was slowly started to desensitize to the danger he was clearly in. Or maybe he was disgusted by the bastard kidnapper...but he was highly tempted to point out that Malcom Lvellie was a psychopath.
If he thought a room full of gold coins, antique collectables and bone remains from the Noah family was beautiful...there was clearly a problem. Even Cross-who had admitted to hiding the missing bodies here, had a disgusted expression on his face.
"Sir...we're running out of time." That was probably the first Allen had properly heard Link talk, let alone give an opinion on something. "Indeed. We have a shift later today. Time to get to business." It seems Allen wasn't desensitized at all.
The fear came back the moment he heard the sound of the the gun cocking. Though the elder policeman still had his back towards them. "Now the only question is...which of you to shoot first."
Allen's body tensed, stiffening as a hand rests on his back. A low voice murmuring in his ear. "When you get a chance. Run." He didn't even have a chance to understand before all hell broke loose.
Cross pushed him back before rushing towards their kidnappers. "What!?" And for once, Allen obeyed his guardian, making a mad dash to the door. "Lock the door brat!" The white haired teen could only glance back once as gun shots ring out.
Tears falling down his face as the sounds of Cross's crumpling body brought back terrible memories. "Keep going Allen!" If it wasn't for Neah practically screaming in his ear, he would've been shot down. "Get him Link!"
Whether it was due to Cross buying him enough time, or the fact that Allen was used to running for his life-he managed to out speed the officer. Shutting the door and moving a small dresser in the way. "Get out of here boy!" It would buy him time.
But it would not save him if he didn't haul ass and get to the upper floor. "I need to call for help." He couldn't guarantee the police helping him-since it was the police that had kidnapped him in the first place. But Lavi, Lenalee, hell even Kanda or Mahoja...any of them would heed his call for help.
The problem was...he didn't have his phone on him. "Shit!" Officer Lvellie probably took it from him after knocking him out. "Any day Allen! Hurry to the upper floors." If Neah's desperate command wasn't enough of a hint to haul ass, the harsh bangs against the door most certainly was.
Cursing Allen is forced to pick up the pace, leaping two steps at a time. Sweat was pouring down his back and brow, chilling when he could faintly hear the door down in the basement bust open with a huge slam.
Usually in this situation Allen would rush outside. Run out, get to the nearest house, get help. However he also was worried. It was a two against one scenario currently. And Allen was pretty sure if that if he ran to a random house and phoned the police...Lvellie would show up and finish him off.
Of course that was if he even made it outside before one of the blue uniformed men caught up to him. No. This time he had to go against his instincts and hide. So he made a beeline for the next floor. Then another. And then another.
And with each floor he made his way through he found more and more spirits revealing themselves to him, giving small nods in acknowledgement before vanishing in a flash. Allen wasn't sure what to even think at this point.
His eye was throbbing, voices were going in and out of his surroundings, and his body was starting to tire. Adrenaline was starting to wear off, so without thinking he made his way into one of the rooms. However the moment he stepped in...the world around his changed.
'Adam are you sure this is a good idea?' The infamous Earl, Adam Noah was a huge man. Big, bulky and cheery as he addressed Lvellie? What on earth is going on? Is this an office? Allen glances around, his panic slowly receding as the younger cop fades through him.
Looks like he stumbled into a memory. 'Indeed! Neah is a wonderful, talented young man who has been an important asset to the family. Both he and my oldest Lulubell are more than capable of handling the company should something befall me.'
Adam sounded absolutely confident in his choice, yet Malcom Lvellie didn't look convinced. If anything his facial expression soured as he glanced over documents. 'I don't doubt their competence, but what of your inheritance? You have as many enemies as you do allies.' Unable to stop his curiosity Allen walked over.
His eyes scanning for a brief moment before recognizing the papers. "This is Mr. Noah's will..." It was no wonder Lvellie knew about it, he was there when it was written. "And here I thought he simply found it after the fire..." It was one question answered at least.
Though it still doesn't help his current problem. Or explain why he was watching this memory unfold. 'True, true. But my priority is the safety and security of my family So should the worst happen, any relatives of mine will receive an equal piece of it.'
That seemed to have been the wrong answer. 'Equal!? Surely you can't be serious? You have generations of relatives all hounding for your riches. It'd be impossible to accurately calculate the sums for each individual members. And even then what if they die or don't accept it?' This was fishy.
Granted, Allen could be biased right now given his most recent interactions with the man, but even without it, Lvellie was an opportunist. Adam should've given his answer as far as the will, and the conversation be over and done with. Or not answer at all, it wasn't his business.
It seemed like he was trying to drag out the conversation, which sounded ridiculous. 'Well in that case, I'll give them time. Ten years for my living relatives to collect my property and inheritance. If not than it will fall into the hands of the police department to use for the sake of the town.'
So that was it. "All this destruction and death...for money. What a greedy bastard." These last few weeks haven't been pleasant. Seeing visions of the happy family here literally going up in flames was horrible.
Hitting far too close to home seeing how Allen has survived a fire himself. "Quite true young man." At those words, the world around him fades the black. "Mr. Noah?" With the big aristocrat himself bowing with his hat down.
"Now now, call me Adam if you must. Though I'd prefer grandpa." He was surprisingly sweet as he swept the teen into a tight hug. Which was at first confusing. Before becoming terrifying. Allen could feel Adam's arms wrap around him.
Squeezing him tightly before pulling back. "I must say it is wonderful to finally meet you young man. Circumstances aside I am delighted to finally be in your presence." This shouldn't be happening. "Why are you here sir? Why...show me that?"
Fear coursed through his veins once more. Those traumatic flashbacks coming to the forefront of his mind. Especially since like Tyki, and all the other ghosts he passed by...he had never met Adam.
Not once did he appear, even when Road or Lulubell called for him. Frankly it felt like the gentleman was putting up a mask. Pretending to be cheery. "Because I needed you to know why Lvellie committed this atrocity."
Adam was still smiling, but his eyes sobered. "Allen Cambell...you are the last remaining connection to my clan. Even through marriage you are family and thus will obtain my inheritance. And even if that was Not the case Lvellie does NOT deserve to win." The ghost clenched his gloved fists.
Showing a more twisted smile, one full of hate and malice. "You coming here has revived hope for some of us into finding peace. Knowing we will not be forgotten, that our story is heard and known. But for the majority for us-myself personally...you've also given us a fantastic opportunity." It was cold.
Chills were starting to seep in Allen's bones as realization comes forth. "You want revenge." His response earned him a few claps. "Correct my dear boy. Quite the intellect aren't you?" Now he can see where Road and Tyki get their personality from...
"But will that really help you move on? Will that really fix this?" Adam's features softened as he places a gently pat on his head. "I was responsible for everyone's demise. I plan on dragging him and Cross down to the pits of hell. If I must be the devil to ensure that-so be it."
The head of the Noah household watched with sympathy as Allen began stumbling in place. "Don't-" His vision started blurring, his sense of balance jumbled before collapsing altogether in Adam's arms. "At the very least young man-you will be spared from an insufferable fate."
The earl has been waiting ten years, holding in his hatred and honing his abilities as a specter for this day. One way or another...the mystery behind his family would be shattered. And the perpetrators would get their due.
to be continued
Author Notes: Just like in the actual show and manga, looks can be deceiving as Adam is both sweet and terrifying. Honestly I originally wasn't going to put him in it but I mean...come on. This entire story wasn't written like I originally meant it too.
Back a year ago Sen said only two things he wanted, Road in it, and it be for Halloween. So ironically it was going to be more horrorish as I planned on it being similar to volume three with Road's debut. But yeah, I kinda like this better.
Maybe another time i'll come back to that concept, however i need to end this author notes. Everyone thank you all for reading this story. If you like please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean a bunch to me. Tchao for now.
