i've been by your side.
Seen your struggles,
Heard your cries.
And yet there is nothing I can do.
I can't turn back time.
I can't fix my mistakes.
But at the very least I will try.
If for nothing else than to end this nightmare.
To give you peace.

"Ugh...my head." He came to in bits and pieces, his vision trying to rearrange itself. "Welcome to hell asshole." The first thing Cross sees when his sight aligns properly is a pissed off man. One he's seen every night in his dreams. "N-Neah? What-" Not even a second after he felt a fist collide into his face.
Making him fall right on his back, though what was strange was the fact that he couldn't feel the floor underneath him. "Been waiting a long time to do that you selfish backstabbing asshole." In all of ten years the alcoholic never thought he would see his best friend again.
Let alone like this. Being grabbed by the collar while being forced to look into enraged golden eyes. "Guess I finally kicked the bucket." At that Neah rolled his eyes. "Brilliant deduction captain obvious. You're now a part of the afterlife. And we have work to do."
There really wasn't a lot of time for the newly deceased man to get a bearing on his surroundings. And the deceased aristocrat wasn't going to coddle him either, if anything he drags the bastard. Getting mild satisfaction in watching him stumble.
"What the hell happened?" His hands, along with his body was transparent, he was able to move through the walls and doors without pain or getting stuck. Being dead was weird. Though he still felt the stinging burn of a bullet exploding into his skull.
Hurt like a bitch. "You actually did something useful in your life and saved Allen from getting killed. But Lvellie and his lackey are still on the loose. We got to move." As the two float towards the main hall, they see it. "Kyaahahahahahahahaha! Time to play~"
Absolute chaos. But that was typical when the wicked twins are involved. "Play play! Play with Lvellie." But the fact that all of Neah's other in-laws were out and hostile was what truly concerned him. "What is happening Link!?" Especially Adam.
Who was throwing things all around the aged policeman. "Rise up my children! The time has come to punish our perpetrators!" Trying his hardest to cause some damage. "I don't know sir!" Link winced, practically diving to the floor as old furniture, charred antiques, broken debris flew past him.
"Uncle Neah!" Road ran, panting(despite the fact she didn't need to breathe) as she made it his way. "I just got into contact with Allen's friends. They're on their way with the actual police!" There was grim amusement in the knowledge that Road specified 'actual' in her statement.
However that quickly goes away. "And Allen?" Taking a quick glance around he was nowhere to be seen. And at this point he wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad thing. "Tyke and Auntie Lulu are watching over him. Guess Grandpa knocked him out."
Poor kid just couldn't catch a break. "Mana's going to kill me." His niece snorts. "You're already dead. Come on~ Let's go have some fun." Cross was confused, unable to comprehend any of the shit going on as his companion sighs, feeling more tired than he ever felt when left alive.
Meanwhile...
"Where...am I?" Allen never liked going to sleep. Either he would have horrific nightmares, or have ghosts invade his thoughts. Both situations he would rather avoid. Though in this case he may make an exception.
A warm smile, dark blue eyes, and familiar hand caresses his hair. "Seems you've blacked out. Guess the Earl truly wanted you out of the skirmish. It'll be quite some time before you awaken." It had been so long since he's heard him.
Let alone feel his loving touch. "Dad? I thought you moved on." For so long, despite hating his powers, his father was the one ghost he desperately searched for. Whenever he ran away from whatever foster home he was in-he looked.
All over Europe, when Cross had him travel with him across Asia and India...his red eye searched. But not once was he able to find him. Why and how did he appear now? "I could never knowing what happened to you. But I was never an angry soul. I didn't fall bitter or hateful."
Even when he was alive Mana wasn't the type to hold grudges. He took things in stride. It helped with him not becoming a wicked spirit, but it also made it harder for him to stay on this plane of existence.
His father was even more transparent then the Noah's, barely seen. He easily could've been overlooked when surrounded by other ghosts or people. But more so than that, as his gloved hand traced the left side of his head...it clicked. "No wonder." Allen could only weakly chuckle.
The irony of it all. His ability to see the dead happened after Mana died. And he had used it to try and find the man. Not even considering that it was him that gave him it, and was by his side the entire time.
Words couldn't describe how stupid he felt, and how hollow he felt at the realization. With a few exceptions, Allen had thought to himself time and time again that he hated being able to see the dead, and wished he couldn't.
That he wished he were normal. "I'm sorry dad." How many times did his kin have to hear him gripe and panic over it? Or watch him nearly get killed because he was at the wrong place and the wrong time?
"And i'm sorry for all the burdens you've had to bear. But I needed something to keep you together, something that you could use to identify yourself and motivate you even when feeling conflicted. By seeing others in pain, you found the strength to help them."
In the last ten years Mana has seen his son grow into a wonderful young man. "Many times you were hit with terrible luck, yet you kept on walking. A Walker keeps walking." So that was it. "You changed my records?" The elder spirit nodded.
A wry grin forming. "I know it makes little sense, but in actuality I wished that was my actual last name. Haven't been called 'Mr. Cambell' since I graduated high school. And most importantly it kept you safe from Lvellie." That was priority number one.
"Back then, he was looking for a young brunette named Allen Cambell. The sheer stress of the situation with my death and the fire he caused turned your hair white, but all he would have had to do was see your name listed and finish the job." The fifteen year old shivered.
Easily connecting the dots. If he was listed as a Cambell, he would've been killed either at the hospital he was put in after the fire, or at the Noah house along with Neah and the rest of them. So with what little powers he had, Mana changed his records, completely cutting all ties with him.
Sending him off to an off the road orphanage where he could safely heal, without Lvellie catching wind. But within time and strange circumstances, Allen was thrown back into the man's clutches. Revealing years worth of deceit and betrayal.
"What about Cross? Why is he involved?" A sigh escapes the ex: performer. "Cross didn't want to help with Lvellie's plot at all...but he did it to protect Anita. Who at the time was pregnant." So that was it.
Anita had mentioned always wanting to have kids, but couldn't. "She had fallen ill and miscarried after Cross and Lvellie attacked the mansion. And he's been haunted by his actions ever since. Turning into a miserable, drunkard bastard."
He wasn't forgiven. Allen now understood why he was always so angry and driven to drink, but he would never forgive his guardian for all the shit he put him through. And for hurting Anita. But that could be dealt with after.
"What now? You've told me everything i've been missing. Adam's apparently going on a rampage. And Lvellie's trying to kill me while i'm knocked out. What happens now? Where do I go from here?" He's gently pushed into a long desired hug.
Feeling his back rubbed in soothing circles just like when he was a child. "You will wake up, Lvellie will pay for his crimes, and you will keep walking. Whatever happens will be of your decision. And no one else."
to be continued
Author Notes: Yeah I brought Mana into this! And i'm not ashamed of it! In all honesty this reminds me of the full moon manga, a similar thing happened where a girl was able to see shikigami since she was surrounded by the presence of a deceased loved one.
I honestly didn't think about it until after i wrote it but it's still a nice touch(as well as justify how the hell Allen could see ghosts-you know not counting a life threatening/traumatic experience)
Can we also appreciate Road and her sassiness? When she's not sadistic lol. Alright that is it for now. Thank you all for reading this story. If you like it please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean a crap ton to me. Tchao for now.
