Deadly Secrets

Chapter 19

Author Notes: Did I say last chapter that the finale was on the shortish side? So...maybe compared to some of my Other endings yes-but in all honesty this one wasn't too shabby when it came to word length.

At the very least it fit into my word limit. And ironically we're ending it on chapter nineteen, which is cool because though my birthday is in june, the day is the nineteen so...that's cool. Alright one last time boys and girls, i do not own DGM

? P.O.V

What do I do now?

For so long I had given up.

I was willing to cease to exist.

So full of bitterness and anger.

But now...it's gone.

The heavy weight bearing on my soul is gone.

However where does that leave me?

I'm still here.

What am I waiting for?

3rd P.O.V

"Allen are you sure we should be here?" Despite all of the terrible experiences and slight trauma...he was back at the Noah Mansion. "Yes. There's someone I need to see." But this time he wasn't alone.

All three of his friends were there with him. "But isn't Anita at the hospital being treated right now?" Even though all of them were nervous, knowing exactly who and what was here, they were still willing to follow him.

Being brave souls while Allen decides to make one last visit. "If anything it's the perfect time. I know Miranda won't rat me out, so what she doesn't know won't hurt her." He had to take advantage of her being gone.

Since she had practically banned him from coming after finding out what happened. "Who would've thought you had balls Moyashi." Allen could only roll his eyes as he marches forth. Sneaking in through the same door he had always done before.

"Allen!" And it didn't take long for him to run into someone. He hadn't even made it into the main hall before someone popped into existence. "Hey Road. Long time no see." The little girl tilted her head, curious.

It had been a few weeks since she had seen the lovable albino teen, so she was glad she waited around. He looked well, healthier and happier. Though she was more interested in the familiar faces behind her cousin in law. "Do they know?" She waits, her fingers twitching in anticipation.

But she relaxes at his nod. "Yeah, there are some things that they still don't know. So I was hoping you could get the others and we all have a little chat?" With bright eyes that matches her smiles, she hops up and down.

Absolutely ecstatic with the idea. "You got it~ There's only a few of us left so it won't be so hard. Be back in a bit." And Allen knew which few were left. About ninety percent sure. "Hey uh. Are they gone? It's warm again." Bless Lavi was trying.

He didn't truly understand, but he was doing his best not to be in denial with the whole ghost thing. "Yeah. She's just getting the others. If i'm right there'll be five or six people joining us." Stretching his arms above his head Allen sits down, resting his back against the wall.

"I can't believe we're going to be speaking with actual ghosts." There were mixed feelings to be sure. "I still say he's spewing bullshit." But all of them got comfortable, waiting for a few minutes before Allen glanced to his left.

His crimson eye vanishing from view. "They're here." Lenalee, Kanda and Lavi weren't sure what to expect. None of them really knew about how to deal with ghosts except from what they've watched from movies.

But they would've appreciated a little more than a basic crash course on ghost since they weren't prepared for five people randomly materializing in front of them. "Lavi, Lenalee, Kanda, meet the Noahs. Road, Tyke, Lulubell, Neah meet my friends." Of course the final specter was purposely ignored.

"Gonna be like that eh brat? Seems you finally made use of those balls of yours." That's twice now someone's poked fun at his masculinity. "Still pissed at you Cross. I was actually hoping you had finally gone to hell." A smile formed on his guardian's face.

The first Allen's ever seen from the man that didn't involve torturing him. "You me both. But I got my reasons for lingering." It was just as he suspected. "Not that we don't appreciate the visit boy, but why are you here?" Tyke was already smoking.

Irritating his elder sister as she scrunches her face up. "Ugh you and your wretched habits. But he's right Allen." One by one each of the spirits take a seat themselves, getting comfortable.

Well...as comfortable as a dead transparent entity could anyways. "I figured I'd give you guys some information, catch you up before saying goodbye." Neah crossed his arms, frowning at his nephew. "Are you moving? Hopefully somewhere that's Not a shithole?"

The aristocrat made sure to give his ex-friend a pointed look at the mention. "I'll get to that. But first and most importantly, Lvellie is in jail. Arson, multiple accounts of murder, breaking and entering-he's paying for everything." It was music to everyone's ears.

"Thank goodness." The bastard needed to pay, and to an extent he got it while at the mansion. Adam had decided to be a particularly nasty ghost and attack the man. Giving him horrific visions of the deaths he had caused.

Materializing so he could attack him. Throwing things his way. It was a miracle he came out of this alive, but he lost his sanity that day. "And what of his assistant? The blonde?" At that question Allen grinned, a big toothy, one. "Link was the one to rat him out. "

Apparently he had been collecting evidence against him, pretending to be on his side up until Lvellie got sloppy and desperate for the money. He wasn't around back ten years ago, but being the meticulous man he was, it was easy for him to connect the dots when he joined the force.

"So he's the reason Cross was able to jump Lvellie? I recall him letting you go." It was a surprise to them all. Though when the stoic officer met with Allen at the hospital, he could only give his sincere apologies for the danger he was placed in.

Explaining everything. "It turns out he's actually part of the FBI. And he was given permission to go undercover to investigate the Noah case since it was considered a cold case. He didn't realize though that his superior was crazy enough to resort to kidnapping." Things had quickly gone out of control.

And with him having no safe way to call for backup, could only wait for an opportunity. "Well that's a relief." And there was still more. "Yeah, both he and officer Yeager are going through all the files-as well as transferring all of Adam Noah's property and money into my possession."

Not even his human friends knew about that one. "Seriously?" With everyone giving him wide eyes, he could only shrug, feeling sheepish. Not really sure how to react with all the attention.

"I won't have full access of it until I'm eighteen, but I'll be given a bit of it every month to pay for expenses...as well as pay for Anita's treatment." Cross suddenly went stiff. "Anita? You're paying for her care?" He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Let alone when his adopted punching bag scoffed at his expression. "In general I had planned on doing it. What money I had been making from my side jobs that didn't go to your debts was going to go to her. But Link has promised that she would be properly taken care of." It was all he wanted.

What he could ever ask for. "Does she know?" The teen doesn't meet his gaze. "She knows you saved my life. She knows you made mistakes, but she still loves you. And doesn't want you to linger." If there was one thing Cross could agree with, it was the fact that he didn't deserve having Anita in his life.

She was a wonderful woman, who deserved a life of luxury and comfort. Instead he had given her a life of bruises and suffering. "Take care of her?" Allen had intended on doing that. She was the first person ever to truly believe Allen when he told her about his ability.

Not once did she shy away from him, or accuse him of making things up. And even if there were things she didn't understand, in the end she still loved and cared about him. "Anita's practically my mom, I intend to." With that Cross had no more reason to stay.

His concerns were swept away in a matter of moments. All because of the brat he had taken in on a whim. "Thanks." So with a flash of light he vanishes. "Whoa! Where'd he go?" Neah and Allen in unison had simply replied, "Hopefully to hell."

The worst part was no one was entirely sure if they were being sincere or not. "This is what you meant by saying goodbye. You're setting us free." Lulubell was ready to cry. "It's time for you all to find peace. I think you've long earned it." But it was Road who shed the first tear.

Practically pouncing on the boy. "Thank you. Thank you so much." The next to leave, without any words was Tyke, who only winked. "Wait Allen I'm confused. Why are they leaving?" Next was Lulubell who planted a kiss on his cheek.

"They're moving on." He had given a very brief explanation back at the hospital all those weeks ago but it bared repeating. "When someone dies with regrets or suddenly they're lost souls. Forever stuck with their memories and trauma until someone sets them free."

When ghosts are free from their concerns or lingering desire to stay, they leave. No longer chained to this plane. There were some exceptions of course. Certain spirits like Miranda are almost never satisfied to leave.

Gain closure for one issue, and gain another reason to stick around. In her case she'd rather wait for Anita(and now Allen) to safely pass away before finding peace. But the fifteen year old was grateful he didn't have that particular issue with this group here.

"Cross wanted to make sure Anita was ok without him. Tyke and Lulubell wanted to know Lvellie would take responsibility for his crimes and gain closure from their deaths. Now that they know, they're able to rest for good."

That's three down, two to go. "Now to answer your question Neah. Currently Anita and I are staying with Lavi and his grandfather. I believe you know Mr. Bookman?" Oh heavens did he ever. Neah chuckled at just how small the world truly was.

Though Lavi didn't understand if his furrowed eyebrows were any indication. "Lavi, you mentioned your grandpa was a retired historian right? He used to work with Neah when he was in college. And helped Cross on a few cases when he was a lawyer." There was nothing stopping his jaw from popping open.

"Oh." It really was a small world. "Bookman knows I'm your nephew, and is actually teaching me some homemade medicines to help with Anita's symptoms. I'm ok. And I know dad is waiting for you on the other side. You don't need to worry about me."

The older male really hated how cheeky his kin's smile was. "If I didn't know any better I'd think you've done this before." That shit eating grin was back. "I may've done this a time or few. But seriously Neah...thank you, for everything." Sighing, Neah scratches the back of his head.

A motion Lenalee recognizes all too well. That was the same gesture Allen did when outed on a lie or was out voted on where to hang out for the day. "Take care Allen. I know I was never able to say it before, but I am grateful to have finally met you. I love you." And he's gone.

"Guess that just leaves little old me. Got any mystical magical words?" Road deflates, practically pouting when he shakes his head. "I don't need to. Out of everyone you could've left at any moment Road. You chose to be the last ghost here." She wasn't fooling him for an instant.

Though it is true she was stuck here, unable to cope with not only her death, but the death of her family, Allen had no doubt though that the only reason she stuck around was because she planned it that way.

As soon as she, along with the other ghosts mentally and physically tortured their murderer she could've left. But that wasn't going to happen. She was the one that he first officially met, she was the one who had asked for his help. Like hell she wasn't going to see all this through without a proper send off.

"You caught me, but I did want to say sorry to your friends. Back when they snuck in searching for you, I may've locked them in one of grandpa's office rooms..." She gave a little bow.

She really didn't mean them any harm, at the time she was trying to protect her cousin-in-law, but she won't deny maybe having a bit of fun on the side. "So That's what happened." Allen clapped his hands, startling everyone.

Finally his last question was answered. "Everyone was accusing ME of locking them in. You all owe me an apology." Kanda snarls. "How the hell were we supposed to know that there were ghosts-" And so the long awaited Allen/Kanda bicker war has begun.

But while Lenalee tried stopping the two of them, Lavi gives the dead girl a knowing look. "I thought I recognized you. You also called Allen's phone, didn't you." All he got was a knowing smirk. He was right on the money and she wasn't even going to try telling him otherwise.

However that mischievous look immediately melted away, turning softer, kinder. "Take care of him ok? He saved my family. It's only fair he deserves a happy one." It was a promise all of them were more than ready to keep. "Stay out of trouble Allen! When it's your time I'll come meet you with a bag of candy~"

That time however, would not be today nor tomorrow.

But long, long after

the end~
