Melascula's eyes slowly drifted open. She had a hard time remembering what happened the night before but one look at the princess, preparing food for the day's costumers, jogged her memory. "UGH! I seriously cried and let a human hug me...I mean it didn't feel...awful, just...UGH!" Melascula thought to herself angrily. Melascula was not one to show strong emotions to anyone as she thought it showed weakness, especially crying. She hated crying.
Melascula got up off the table she was sleeping on and stretched. Elizabeth turned to get a pie that was baking and noticed her. "Good morning. How are you feeling?" Elizabeth asked. "Fine..." Melascula answered. "Is it true? That you left the commandments?" Elizabeth asked. "Yes. I was too pissed off to listen and I lashed at Zeldris...I didn't mean to. I just..." Melascula tried to explain, with a sigh. "Do you regret it?"
"...yes. I was furious." Melascula answered, reluctantly. "Don't you see? From everything I've heard, you've kept everything in. Bottled up so many painful experiences to where you snapped and all of it hit you at once." Elizabeth explained. "In the demon race, it's kill or be killed. The goddesses were ruthless if you were weak. Think we're cruel and relentless. You should've seen those monsters." Melascula explained. "What have they done?" Elizabeth asked. "They slaughter, they trick, and they will make sure there's nothing left of you. You need to be ruthless back if you hope to survive." Melascula explained. Elizabeth didn't know what to say. She said exactly how someone now would describe demons. Meliodas could've handled this a lot better.
"You know...you remind me a lot of my mother." Melascula admitted. "Really?" Elizabeth asked. "Yeah...she was caring, helpful and a great person overall. She only fought when she needed to, even if she wasn't well. ...And she wasn't even my real parent." Melascula said. Elizabeth's childhood hit her at the last few words. She never thought she'd have something in common with a tenth commandment. "Who is?" Elizabeth asked. "Surprised you haven't caught on by know. My true form is a snake. A tiny poisonous snake that bathed in miasma for 1000 years." Melascula explained. "That explains it but...how did you meet your mother?" Elizabeth asked. "When she was taking a walk around the demon realm, she found and took me home. I couldn't talk or walk. Small and puny. I was basically a..." "Baby." Elizabeth interrupted. "Exactly." Melascula said, blushing. Elizabeth thought baby Melascula would be adorable rather than humiliating, causing her to smile. "She bathed me, she teached how to speak, walk, and fight, and...she loved me. I... I miss her so much." Melascula said, with a tear running down her cheek.
Elizabeth was about to grab her handkerchief, but Melascula stopped her with her hand and wiped it with her hand.
"I'm fine. Really...Anyway. Growing up, she taught me about our division between us and the goddesses. How we're the superior race because we actually care about our comrades. We work together. But something changed when Meliodas betrayed us. Her attitude to goddesses changed. I saw her crying in her room one night. I asked her what was wrong and the only thing she could tell me was "things are not what they seem, darling.". My biggest mistake was choosing to ignore it as I was a tenth commandment at that point and I had duties to attend to but things got more strange when she started people things in private conversations that she almost never would've said before that night. Like the division must end and the goddesses are not all who you think they are. I was the only thing saving her from the demon king ordering for her execution. She would still fight but only if I was there. She didn't think I'd notice but I did."
"Any idea why?"
"The only thing I can guess is that...she saw an entire new reality become possible in front of her eyes."
"I think I know what it was."
"What?"
"She saw something in the goddesses. That a world where they could live together in harmony was possible."
"...well. I'll never know. The goddesses are gone now. All that's left is giants, fairies, and humans."
"It can still happen! We can still come together. The seven deadly sins are all from different races and they work together masterfully. That world is still possible, Melascula."
Melascula couldn't speak or move. Just listen. All of it sounded like utter chaos but..."I...I...I don't know..." Melascula stuttered. Rumbling came from outside. Melascula rushed to the window to see a big red demon. Elizabeth ran out the door. "What are you doing?!" Melascula yelled. "Hawk's mom! Wake up. We got to get out of here." Elizabeth yelled to the giant sleeping green pig. The red demon saw her immediately and went for a blow. Elizabeth braced for impact until..."Death stab!"
The demon's hearts were pierced one by one until it dropped. Dead. Elizabeth turned to Melascula who looked right back. "Elizabeth. Prove it to me. Prove to me mother was right. Prove to me this world is possible." Melascula said. Elizabeth smiled. "Right. Do you need a place to stay?" Elizabeth asked. "Yes. I'm not returning to the commandments." Melascula answered. "Great! We have plenty of rooms here, just follow me." Elizabeth said. Melascula nodded and followed me. Will this be a blessing or a curse to Melascula? Hell if she knew.
