Having an injured ankle seemed to bring out the gentleness in the wraith a lot more. They managed to bring her a wheelchair as Saphira refused to allow the wraith to help her dress, shower and to help her with the toilet. She knew they simply wanted to help, but she did feel uncomfortable at the idea of them seeing her naked. Even though she had seen Tobias's chest, that was more of an accident than actually watching him take his shirt off. Michladen seemed to leave her alone during this time as well, even though he told her the reason why he disliked her and that she sympathized with him, she assumed the hate and guilt was not easy to get passed for him. She did like that Vladimir spent more time with her in the lab now that they all could feed over the next few months, they had caught enough humans to feed them for that long so culling was not needed. He also was concerned about her ankle, but it was healing and Saphira had to make a point of telling him to allow her to try and walk on it to see how it is. At the moment, it is day four with her injured ankle and she was working on the console again, she was working on a circuit board and connecting it to a control board piece with wiring. Tobias was working on the device to put into a dart to allow for the remote connection to work, he had decided to make sure it would work first before working on increasing the signal strength.
She heard him sigh and looked up to see him straightening up and pulled off his black shirt. Saphira widened her eyes when she saw his muscular chest and abs again, and she also noticed the muscles on his arms. "Um…is it hot in here?"
Tobias looked at her as he was surprised by the question. "No, I was just feeling a tad uncomfortable. But, your cheeks a bit red, are you feeling okay?"
Saphira did not realize she was blushing and looked down at the console immediately. "I am fine. I am just a tad uncomfortable."
He frowned and walked around to her. Saphira tensed slightly, she could see his body at the corner of her eye. She silently cursed herself to remember that he is a wraith, she didn't even know why she looked at him in a way that made him question if she is okay. She felt his hand on her cheek, making her swat at his fingers.
"I said I am fine Tobias," She said, turning to look into his eyes. She flinched back as he was leaning down and studying her. "And I also butted heads with you."
Tobias smirked at her. "You feel a little warmer than usual, you might be getting sick and not realizing it."
"That is not needed Tobias," Saphira sighed in frustration. "The only time you should be really worried is when my period comes around."
The wraith frowned at what she said. Saphira blinked and realized the wraith was not aware of it. "You don't know what that is do you? It's a monthly cycle women go through."
"I am not familiar with it, should we be concerned?" He asked curiously. "Maybe I should have Loroy come here."
"That would be good, if he does not know, than you are going to panic when you realize what happens during my period," She smiled at him. "It might mean I'll want to be in my room for a few days, it's not an illness or anything, it just is not fun every month. And it will be coming soon."
The wraith looked uncomfortable and walked away. Saphira breathed out a sigh of relief, happy that he moved away from her. She did wonder why she was feeling attracted to the wraith when they weren't human. And she thought they knew what women go through, it seemed they don't know a lot about humans.
"What is this about a period I hear Tobias?" Loroy's voice asked, making Saphira snicker as this was amusing to her. "What is so funny?"
"Um…she said it's a monthly cycle that will happen soon," Tobias responds slowly. "And it seems like something we should worry about."
Loroy was silent and Saphira sat up and turned her chair around to look at them. She was amused by this and she was about to teach them something about human anatomy. "Um…I have heard the worshippers speak on it…but we are not fully aware of such a thing. Could you describe it?"
"Well, looks like I will need something to use during that week," Saphira said softly. "You see, it's just a thing where the uterus clears out the build up of lining, and it is just a wonderful time of cramps, mood swings and blood. You might need to get some kind of padding for me to use, or I am not leaving my room for a week."
Both wraith had a horrified look on their faces. Loroy himself was able to realize what she meant more quickly than Tobias. "I am surprised you said nothing about it."
"I did not because I thought you knew because of your worshippers," Saphira retorts, putting her hands on her hips. "You probably have a few days before it comes. The ankle isn't the only thing that is going to hurt, if anything, I would rather a sprained ankle over a period anytime."
She turned around to continue working on the console and she could sense the wraith were still standing there. They were obviously talking with each other and also likely telling the rest of the hive. Saphira couldn't help but burst into fits of laughter, she laid her head on the table as she laughed.
"Don't tell me it was a joke?" Loroy huffed as he stared at Saphira, but this only made her laugh harder. She clenched her fist and hit the table in her fit of laughter. "You will have completely embarrassed us if it is."
Tobias himself hoped it was a joke too, but he was not sure. "I am not sure if it is a joke Loroy, I have overheard worshippers talk about the monthly cycle before. She's likely laughing at us for not knowing."
"Of course she is laughing at you two," Michladen's voice said as he arrived at the lab. "How could you both not know about that? Every wraith I knew before coming here knew about the monthly cycle. How ignorant are you? Even the queen and Vladimir know."
Saphira gasped as she laughed, she could still hear them and she thought it was so darn funny that not all wraith actually knew about the female human body. Tears formed in her eyes as she tried to control her laughter, but it was hard and her stomach was hurting from laughing so hard.
"We honestly were not told," Loroy said, rubbing the back of his head. "I feel stupid, I am a healer and I should know about that stuff. But Percy was my mentor and he went into hibernation before he told me everything."
"Ah well, I suppose that is a reason, and Tobias here is more focused on technological science than biology," Michladen said with a sigh. He looked to Saphira and chuckled as he too was amused. "At least you made her laugh."
Saphira was barely catching her breath and wiping the tears from her cheeks as she looked at Michladen. He did not seem mad now, he seemed rather happy today. "It's nice to see you again Michladen. Not in this way, but you know."
He huffed as his expression turned cold again. "Indeed it is, and since these two weren't aware of that need, I'll go and deal with that."
"You will?" Saphira asked in surprise. "Thank you."
"I can't have the others doing everything all the time," He shrugged before walking away.
Saphira sighed deeply and swallowed, realizing her mouth was a tad dry from laughing. "Could I get some water? I feel a bit parched from laughing."
"I am glad we amused you," Loroy smiled. "And I was actually coming here because Tobias thought you had a fever or something."
She frowned and scowled at Tobias. "You told him when I said I am fine?"
"Of course, I would take your word for it, but some illnesses don't always present themselves to the host until much later," He responded. "I am sorry if that upsets you."
"It is fine. You see I am perfectly fine now can't you?" Saphira pats her cheeks with a smile.
"Yes, I do not see the redness in her cheeks like you said Tobias. And you should put a shirt back on, I know that commander outfit isn't very comfortable, but you need to wear it." Loroy pats his shoulder and turned to leave.
"Who's Percy anyway?" Saphira asked suddenly. "I overheard that name."
The healer smiled and looked at her. "He was my mentor, he is an older wraith who has seen a lot more seasons than I have. You may get to meet him in the future when he wakes up, but there is not guarantee I am afraid. But I think he would like you, he used to talk about a proper friendship between wraith and human, and he was often laughed at. But it turns out he was right."
"He sounds like a nice person," Saphira said softly. "I think I should continue, I'll wait for some water."
She turned the chair around to continue working on the console. The little distraction was definitely a good one, she had not had a good laugh in a long time. She was very happy about that. She heard Tobias walk over and he did not put his shirt back on until he was by the table. She also realized the wraith did not seem to be accustomed to a human who is flustered or attracted to someone, but some wraith may recognize this body language and tease her about it. She hoped it would not be the case as she wasn't even sure of her own feelings. They are wraith after all, and she felt it would be rather unnatural to do anything. But she did know no man would want to have her due to her allegiance with the wraith so she decided she would have to really contemplate if it was worth having a romantic relationship with the wraith. And it was not just Tobias, she found Vladimir to be attractive too mostly for his personality rather than his appearance.
She jumped when a cup is placed beside her and she looked up at Tobias. "Sorry for startling you, but here's your water."
She smiled at him. "Thank you, and I apologise for making you uncomfortable earlier. I just hope that being warned was better than finding out on the day my cycle starts."
"It is very much better," Tobias said as he began working on the engine part. "I am a little concerned about what else will happen."
Saphira giggled. She did not blame him at all. There was a chance she won't come out of her room on the first and second day, so she hoped the wraith would give her that space. She knew that she could get overly emotional and wanting sweet food during the cycle, and she wanted to spare the wraith from any of the fits she could have.
"At least the console should be finished before the end of the week, and we can test it on a dart," Tobias said, excited at the thought of testing a pilotless dart. "Then we can work on the remote pods to build and use for the darts. Vladimir and Michladen will be the test pilots when we do get to test them."
"I honestly look forward to it," Saphira said, smiling dreamily as her dream was coming together so well. "I think we should have Simplicity be there when we test the prototype."
"That's a good idea, her being here in person would be the best thing to happen," Tobias said with a smile. "I'll let the queen know and she will extend the invitation to the high queen for us."
It was just a little more time to go before the console would be finished and they would get to test the prototype. She was super happy, and she did think that once they do this, they could design different fighter concepts that could be specifically for pilotess roles. It would open so many doors that was for certain.
