Saphira did not want to get out of bed right now, she felt horrible at the moment. Michladen had brought her items that the worshippers use during their monthly cycle, and she was glad that he did. But that did not mean she wanted to get out. Despite that her ankle could now take some weight on it and she could move around easier, she did not want to get out of her bed right now. The cramping in her abdomen made sure for it. The wraith were cautious about her as they felt she was as if she is sick. In a way, she was, but she knew she would be up and about the next day. She was relaxing in the bed when Vladimir came in with a tray of food.
"I hope you are hungry," He said gently, glancing between the bed and the table. "Where would you like to eat?"
"I don't want to get up, so here would be nice," Saphira said, sitting up to move the pillows behind her to prop them up. She leaned back and frowned before fixing them up again to get comfortable. "That's better."
The wraith brought the tray over to place over her legs and sat down. "I never thought that this kind of thing would make you so…"
"Bitchy?" Saphira completed the sentence with a raised eyebrow.
The wraith was taken aback by what she said. "I suppose so, um, I was not going to go with that word though."
"Oh, don't worry, I call myself that when I am on my cycle anyway," She said in a mocking tone. She pulls the lid off a plate to start eating. "And I am afraid, this will happen every month. I cannot control it."
"If you could, would you want to?" Vladimir asked curiously.
Saphira giggled at his question and nodded. "Of course, no woman enjoys this Vladimir. Do you think I enjoy it?"
"I never thought that you would, we have observed our worshippers in a similar way to you right now. I am glad that our queens don't go through this every month." He sighed, rubbing his chin gently.
"So do wraith queens have cycles than?" Saphira asked curiously as she took a bite of the meat she cut.
Vladimir nods slowly. "It happens every few months though. It will be quite obvious, just as it is now for you."
Saphira could already sympathize with the queen, but she was a tad jealous that the queens don't have to deal with a period every month. She wished she had that privilege, it would feel so much better than it would normally.
"I have to say, I wish mine was every few months," She said with a smile. "I wouldn't feel like staying cooped up then."
"Cynthia said that about you too actually, she sympathises what you're going through and is glad she doesn't have to as often. But if I am honest, she is meaner during her cycle than you." He smirked and rested his hands on his lap. "Though I wonder if you knew that."
"Yeah, well it makes sense," She shrugged. "Anyway, I should be fine to continue working on the console tomorrow."
"Actually, Tobias will finish it today," Vladimir said, getting a surprised scowl from Saphira. "Now before you get mad, he will wait for you to test out the prototype. After all, he does not want to stop you from witnessing your creation working."
Saphira's smile widened as she was happy that Tobias would wait for her. She wanted to see the whole finished product when she wanted to get out. "I am excited honestly." She breathed deeply as she enjoyed the food. "Will Simplicity be here?"
"Yes, she is coming today, but she is aware of your cycle and you won't see her until tomorrow," Vladimir said softly. "Speaking of, what do you plan to do for the rest of the day? There is not much to do here other than to eat, shower, toilet and stare at the wall."
"That all sounds good to me right now honestly," Saphira said with a shrug. "I may grab a book from one of the shelves though, that will pass the time rather quickly for me."
"Fair enough, I don't think I'll ever understand it, but I won't push anything. The way you are acting is like you have a fever anyway, so I don't want to make it worse." Vladimir glanced at the bookshelf as he thought on what he could recommend to Saphira to read.
"I am glad that you will give me space," Saphira said with a smile. "Don't worry, the first day will always be the worst, and after that it won't be so bad."
Vladimir nods as he knew she would not lie. He remained in the room until she finished eating so he could take the tray away. But he did suggest a book for her to read, it was a book on the history of the wraith and Saphira decided to read it since she did want to know more about wraith in general anyway. Saphira would spend the rest of her day reading and Vladimir visiting her throughout the day, she really did enjoy his company. He was respectful to her and kind, and she never felt like snapping at him like she would normally in her cycle.
The next day, Saphira was indeed feeling much better and she felt she could get out of bed this time. Vladimir still brought her breakfast to her room, which was nice and he also brought enough for them both to share. It was out of the blue to Saphira as she had not eaten with any of wraith other than Cynthia and occasionally with Vladimir and Michladen at lunch, so this was nice. She questioned him why he decided to do this and he said he wanted to keep her company during breakfast and not feel awkward not eating with her. That made sense, though Saphira felt rather warm and special when he did that, it was not something she expected to feel. And she again had to question her feelings as first it was Tobias, and now Vladimir, they are both wraith and she did not want to pursue feelings that might be confused with something else. He did allow her to go to the lab on her own though, and she was feeling both excited and nervous at the same time. But along the way, she met Simplicity and a couple of her wraith.
"Oh Saphira, I see you're up and about today," The high queen said with a smile. "It is nice to meet you in person, I cannot believe you are almost done with the prototype."
"I am in the same boat as you Simplicity, I did not think it would be this easy," Saphira said, brushing her hair back as she felt embarrassed. "I did not want to disappoint you."
"If this stressed you out, I apologise," Simplicity said gently, stepping forward to grab her hands. Saphira was surprised by the gesture, but smiled at the wraith. "Tobias has assured me that this will work. And I hope your ankle is fine."
"Um, yes it is, it's nothing more than an ache at the moment," Saphira said. She glanced at the wraith behind her. "Who are the commanders you brought with you?"
Simplicity smiled as she stepped aside, while holding Saphira's shoulders. "This is Nicholae and Victor, they're high commanders of my hive ship. They have been rather interested in meeting you ever since the vote."
Saphira smiled at the them, the first wraith to step forward had silver, blue hair and white eyes, she almost assumed he was blind. "It is a pleasure to meet you, I am Nicholae. I have been in the service of the high queen for so many years that I lost count."
She giggled at him as he bowed to her. "That long huh? Well, hopefully that is not a bad thing."
"No, it's not, but you lose track when you are not actively doing things daily," Nicholae said with a chuckle. "Besides, Simplicity and I are good friends aren't we?"
"Yes we are," The queen nods before gesturing to the wraith next to Nicholae with grey, green hair and almost silver skin. "And this is Victor, he has been working with me for nearly as long as Nicholae has."
"And a pleasure it is everyday," Victor chuckled. He grabbed Saphira's hand and kissed it gently, making her feel flustered. "I hope you will come to stay with us Saphira."
"I am sure when the trust is established, Simplicity will want me on her ship first," Saphira said as she pulled her hand away. "When is the test supposed to happen anyway?"
"Very soon, we were on our way out actually, so you should go to the lab." Simplicity pats Saphira's shoulder as she walked away. "I very much look forward to the test."
Saphira watched the wraith walk away, Victor lingered a little longer than he should have before leaving. She glanced down at herself as she wondered if he was attracted to her. She would have to ask Simplicity about the does and don'ts if a relationship were to occur. The high queen did not really bat an eye to the kiss on her hand so she was not sure. Saphira spun on her heel, wincing a bit as she put too much pressure on her ankle before walking to the lab with a light limp. When she entered the lab, Tobias was holding his black robe in his right and silver in his left, clearly deciding what to wear and he was once again shirtless. Saphira felt her cheeks heat up again, but she contained herself.
"Why do I keep walking in at the wrong time?" Saphira asked out loud. Tobias looked at her in surprise. "Are you having a hard time deciding what to wear?"
"Yeah, I have been told I could wear whichever, but I can't decide what looks better," The wraith responds, glancing at his shirts. "What do you think?" He glanced at her again before frowning. "Your cheeks are red again."
"Are they? I didn't realize," Saphira shrugged, walking forward to look at the shirts. She tried not to look at his body, but she could still see his chest at the corner of her eyes. "I like the black myself, it looks better on you."
"Better in what way?" Tobias asked, holding the black shirt up.
Saphira tensed a little as she was not sure how to respond. The black made him sexier to her, and she was not sure how to tell him in a way that would not giveaway her feelings. "Um…it makes you look, uh," Saphira stuttered and clenched her hands for a moment.
"Are you okay?" The wraith frowned.
Saphira swallowed hard and breathed deeply. "I think the silver shirt is a bit too baggy, and you need to wear something that hugs your body more since we are presenting this prototype to the high queen." Tobias studied her face and she tried to refrain from glancing down at his body, but he saw that several times. "What are you staring at?"
He smiled at her before nodding. "I understand now. Thanks for your opinion Saphira." He placed the silver shirt down and began to slip on the black shirt, flexing his muscles slightly. He watched Saphira blinked and walk past him quickly. He started to realize that maybe he and the other wraith were affecting her. "The plan is that I will take the dart that I put the implant in outside the hive and you will take the console out. Vladimir or Michladen will help you since you don't know the way out yet. I will then use the console and we all witness the dart flying."
"That sounds like a great idea," Saphira said, looking at the console. She smiled as it was an oval shaped console, it had a place for the wraith to put their hands on so they could control the dart and it was similar to what the dart console looks like. "I am sorry you finished this by yourself."
"Do not apologise," Tobias said as he fixed his shirt to straighten it so there were no creases in it. "You needed that day off, and honestly, you probably needed it anyway."
"Yeah, I think I did too," Saphira said, turning to look at him. "So I think we should get going right?" Tobias nods, but he does not walk away. Saphira frowned as this was not normal. "Tobias?"
"Just so you know, don't question your feelings, Simplicity is not going to stop you from expressing them," He said in a tone she had not heard before. It was gentle, but Saphira was not sure what else was in that tone. "You probably feel foolish for feeling them, but I assure you that you are not. And I hope that you may come to realize that soon."
Saphira felt her heart fluttering and her cheeks blushing, she looked away as she was not sure on what more to say. He walked away to the hangar, and Saphira finally noticed how hard her heart was beating. She breathed deeply and placed her hand on her heart. She wondered if Tobias somewhat confessed something to her, she was not sure as that did not seem right. She straightened herself deciding that he simply was playing with her, wraith do not look at humans in that way. She had to control herself and remind herself she was working for them as a servant, nothing more. She grabbed the console and turned to leave when she saw Vladimir, he was standing at the door. She couldn't help but worry that he heard what was said, but he smiled at her.
"Let me carry that for you, you're still limping," Vladimir said gently, extending his hands to her.
Saphira smiled and walked to him. "Thank you, I don't want to fall and break it."
"Indeed not," The wraith said, his smile widening slowly to her.
Saphira rubbed her hands together as she was excited and nervous right now. Vladimir began leading her through the ship again. Her eyes did linger on his body, and the outfit he wore was also sexy on him. Saphira clenched her eyes shut for a moment, telling herself that this was stupid, just because Tobias said something about expressing feelings doesn't mean she should stare at them. Saphira was more worried of the consequences of even pursuing those feelings over the prototype failing.
