"He's a liability."
"He's a Hero, just like the rest of us."
The light of the full moon kept the little boy awake, though he pretended to still be asleep. It sounded like the Captain and Veteran bickering again.
"I'm not denying that. It's just—" The Captain sighed. "Every time a fight breaks out I worry about where he's at. Makes it harder to focus. Hero or not, anyone who can't fight shouldn't be anywhere near the battlefield. They're no different from a civilian in that case."
"Yeah, and guess who hightails it literally every time combat breaks out—"
"I know! That's not the point!"
"You don't think he should be traveling with us?" The voice sounded like Time's.
The Captain sighed again. "It's too dangerous. But I understand, it's not like we can take him home either. I just— I don't like it."
"And I don't like your attitude," the Veteran spat. "But look who puts up with it anyway."
"Not without griping about it," the Captain shot back.
"Yeah, to your face, not behind your back like a bi—"
"That's enough." Time stood. "Who's taking the first watch?"
"I will," said the Captain.
The little boy heard someone walk by him. He shut his eyes. Whoever it was stood beside him for a moment, then walked away.
