The story of my life goes thusly:

One day, Nan-chan was bored, she walked about the house in a very downcast mood. Upon entering her brother's darkened room, she was even more downcast - he was watching a stupid cartoon.

"What is it?" she asked peevishly.
"It's this awesome show called Naruto," he said.

She watched for a minute - a bare-chested man, sliced open a guy with glasses who fell backward off a bridge.

Feh. Idiots. Watching dumb shows like that.

But a couple of months later, out of SEVERE boredom, she borrowed the cds and began to watch. When Episode 4 came around, she perked up. For she had met the man of her dreams.

Hatake Kakashi.

The rest is history.

I don't like talking about myself. But here goes.

I'm a Canadian, living abroad (currently in China). Female. 31. I love writing - been writing since I was 9. I've got a vivid imagination. I also like to draw, color, make AMVs, crochet, knit, quilt, READ, do school, READ, boating, READ, needlepoint, cross stich, paint by number, acrylic painting, READ, watch anime.

KAKASHIDIOT'S HOW-TO-WRITE!

GOOD WRITING TOP 8

1. Make sure you have a mood
2. Flowing dialogue that's interesting
3. Show don't tell
4. Interesting ideas
5. Good scenic/character descriptions that don't bog you down
6. Well thought out plot (not always necessary)
7. SPELL CHECK! Or better yet, get a beta reader!
8. Warn people of stuff. Ie. Character death, YAOI, Yuri, SHOUTA, Non-con, swearing, violence. People need to know what they're getting into. Seriously.

AN EXAMPLE of SHOW vs. TELL:

SHOW:

Iruka felt nervous around Kakashi. It was hard to explain to Kakashi why - he didn't know if it was the status of Jounin, or the fact that he was ex-ANBU, or even because he was so - mysteriously... hot...

That's okay and will do to help the story run along faster (for example, I can't write every conversation in Konoha in my GL novel or else it would be an encyclopedia, right?), but you could also write it differently.

TELL: (1st person thinking)

I feel so nervous around him... sigh... it's hard to explain to him... maybe because he's Jounin... nah... or ex-ANBU. Or maybe... maybe - becuase he's... WAAAHHH! so hot! and mysterious!

TELL: (3rd person dialogue)

"You're nervous around me," noted Kakashi.
Iruka blushed and scratched his scar nervously.
"Uhhh.. well... ha!haha! I guess it's because you're Jounin!"
"Eh? Asuma's Jounin and Genma and Gai - and you don't get nervous around them."
Iruka blushed red.
"Welllll... uh... they aren't ex-ANBU."
"Geez... what a wuss..."
Iruka turned as red as a tomatoe.
"Um... well... I don't know. I can't explain it." Then he snapped at the sound of Kakashi's chuckle. "Stop laughing! It's not my fault! It's not my fault you're so - so - dammit! - you're so -" The Academy sensei was fiddling with a pocket button. "So damn mysterious and sexy..." He ended in a mumble, suddenly deflating.
Kakashi stopped laughing.

Tell me which one do you think you liked better? All were good, but admit it, the dialogue is more engrossing. let me tell you a secret to tons of reviews: dialogue, a good sprinkling of description, and well thought out plots/ideas.

STEPS TO GOOD DIALOGUE!

a) keep the sentences short
b) don't always end each sentence with the person's name (Iruka said, Kakashi groaned) etc.
c) don't always write 'he said, she said', you can write other verbs like 'groaned' 'whined' 'complained' 'roared'
d) listen to actual conversations in your house or at school listen to the patterns, yeah, you'll look weird, but it's good reference
e) people don't talk with good grammer. put in enough good grammer so that people understand you, but that's it. so it's okay to have incomplete sentences.
f)instead of bogging your fictions down with heavy pieces of character/scenic description, incorporate it into dialogue and thought and squeeze it between the action
g) on the other hand, don't let your dialogue take over, make sure people know where they are and what the characters were doing
h) read other people's fanfiction who have good dialogue and note how they format their stuff. formating is another important factor for getting reviews. especially when it comes to dialoguing. nobody wants to read a dialogue piece all bunched together in 1 BIG paragraph!
