He left Portnova behind as he left the room. He would be lying if he said things wern't a bit strange over the next few days. They were called for training again one day. This time they were to spar with their partners today.
Trying to make things easy for himself he paired himself with a stranger. He supposed this guy was new too, seeing he had never seen his face around the building.
"Don't leave yourself open comrade." Benedikt advised the man as they practiced.
"Noted." He replied, switching up his stance.
"German?" Benedikt asked, noticing his accent.
"Names Ingo Beck, arn't you one of Perseus' fan faavorites or something?" Beck joked.
"Yeah... something like that." He chuckled.
"Must be nice to be at the top." Beck threw a strong right hook.
"Its not all you think it is. Half these people can't stand me, the other half respect me, or maybe I confuse it with them tolerating me." He explained as he blocked and kicked with his leg.
"Who knows, with the way things have been going we might be going on mission with one another soon."
"Whats your specialty?"
"Cool bomb stuff." Beck said simply, sweeping the leg.
"I could use a cool bomb person in my squad, would certainly mix things up a bit. Give me someone to talk to." He landed on his back. "Good, your getting better." He added, standing back up.
"Whos all on your team?" Beck shuffled.
"Her... and her." Benedikt pointed to Portnova who was a few rows to his far right and to Park from the corner of his left eye.
"You really could use me then." He smiled.
"Definatly." They both laughed.
"Well if you want a spot on my team then lets see what you got. Right here." Benedikt took him to a platform with steps on each side.
"Whats the rules?" Beck asked.
"You win either until your opponent quits or can't stand." He said across the platform as the other soldiers gathered around. The sun blinded them.
Someone in the crowd said go and the fighting began. Beck held up his own for quite some time. He lasted much longer without a single scratch than he anticipated.
Beck put his weight against Benedikt who was on his belly. He sat on his arm and hand and pulled his head up to get a firm grip around his neck. Benedikt began to feel light headed. Beck had quite the grip.
He spun his feet around to the front, getting up he escaped and got behind Beck. He charged the man and his knee met Beck's face. The new soldier fell face down, unsconsciouss. Benedikt fell to his knees intaking sweet oxygen into his lungs.
He rose back to his feet. "Who's next?" He shouted, continuing with their training. He circled the platform looking for anyone. Having the reputation he did nobody would willingly fight against him in a match unless they were desperate for a trip in the medical bay. Or just plain stupid.
Park didn't hesitate to take the chance and rush in from behind. Sweeping the leg, he landed on his back. He was off his gaurd for a split second and he felt his nose trickle with blood after she landed a punch against his nose.
He threw her off so he could stumble to his feet. "This feels personal." He said, wiping at his nose.
"It's not. Not really. Just letting off some steam." For not having said a single word to him for the past few days she sure did speak casually.
"Well, I am sorry, but it was do or die." He explained as they circled around the platform.
"I know you are."
"I dont understand why your so mad about this! We couldn't afford to screw it up. And now that we know our mutal friend is involved we-" he was intterupted.
"I'm not mad, but I am a bit frustrated."
"Well that makes two us then." He was becoming agrivated about her reaction to their incident on mission. He understood that she wasn't really mad at anyone but thats exactly what had him confused. Why then would she be acting so.. annoying.
They had been back and forth for nearly 30 minutes. The crowd was shouting at them, excited. She landed a multiple punches near his liver and a swift kick near his appendix.
He fell to one knee, his body begining to feel the effects of the fight. He slammed her head against his knee and she stumbled backwards. Feeling he disloacted his knee, he grew irritated and stuck his thumb in her eye, causing it to become red.
He landed a kick at the small of the back. Her reaction gave him an advantage as he grabbed the arm and set up an armbar choke.
"Quit, please. You really don't want to spend more time in recovery do you?" He asked her putting a bit of leverage on the arm.
"Well of course not..." it became difficult for her to breathe. "I know you well enough to know you wouldn't actually break anything as vital as my arm or shoulder. So no, Commander Romanov, I will not be quitting today." She smiled smugly.
He narrowed his eyes at her and didn't hesitate to proceed. There was a loud scream when he popped her shoulder out of place. He didn't want to apply to much pressure or she would probably end up with a broken arm.
He felt bad but they were in training. Its just the way things were. He had felt her painful yells and subtle curses when he released his hold. They both laid there for a moment weakend. He could feel the adrenaline fading off when he felt sharp pains all over. She held her shoulder with her other hand, her forehead placed against the floor.
"Come comrades, let's get you two patched up." Beck climbed on top of the platform and crouched between the two groaning soldiers.
"No need to go there. Theres nothing that can't be popped back into place." Benedikt sat up. "Just get me to my quarters." He winced in pain.
Portnova followed behind as she decided to make sure Park could stand and followed them back to their quarters.
"What?" Benedikt was confused when he opened the door to his large room to see two sets of bunks.
"Ah, comrades. Just in time. I'v been meaning to tell you but since your all a team now it would make sense to conserve what space we have. So therefore you will all bunk together. Luxery will come again once we gain even more control over the west. So earn it." Perseus looked over towards Beck. "And you, who are you?" He asked.
"Ingo Beck, sir."
"That German? Forgive me, I see many faces around. Your the one I sent my men to recruit. I hope you have gotten a feel for things these past few weeks that you've been here. I'v watched your progress. I'm sure Commander Romanov wouldn't mind having a bomb defusal expert on the team."
"Not at all sir." He said through painful aches.
"Welcome home then soldier." Perseus shook Beck's free hand.
"And , your new work space is across the hall where Agent Park's quarters was." The older man said before leaving them.
"Lovely." Benedikt huffed as Beck sat him on one of the bottom bunks.
"You ready?" Portnova asked Park preparing to snap her shoulder back into place.
"I was before you asked." She said, irritated.
"This isn't going to tickle comrade." Beck said grabbing a hold of Benedikt's leg and placing his hands on his knee.
"I can imagine not." He said laying face down into his pillow. He muffled his scream into the pillow once he felt it pop back into place, not even caring about the blood seaping into the white material.
"Much appreciated." He said sitting up and seeing Portnova finish tending to Park's shoulder.
"If you could bring me a medical kit that would be great."
"Or just go to the medical bay..." Beck suggested.
"Thats an order Beck." He said firmly.
"Roger." The germann replied.
"How did you end up here?" Portnova asked him as she followed behind.
"Great fight." Benedikt broke the silence after snapping his nose back into place. "You feel better?"
"Much." She sighed.
He came to sit beside her. "Good." They embraced in a hug before sharing a kiss.
"What are we to do about Adler?" She asked him.
"Kill him, of course. For good this time." He smiled.
