2065

Specialist HQ

He felt like he were laying on a cloud. A faint light dimmed the room, a few monitors here and there. One he assumed to be a TV. What year was he in?

He lifted his arm to see a small box of light stuck into his forarm, vital signs of some sort reading on it. Recalling the events of just recently, he diverted his attention to his other hand.

"Its an enhancement." Walsh walked through the door, seeing his clear confusion. "But you would know that, right? I assume your from here." He sat beside the bed.

"There is no way for me to hide it.." Benedikt said softly, flexing the new machine attatched to his body. He couldn't tell them the truth, but if he could come up with something not nearly as insane.. He let out a deep sigh. "I am a soldier. Not one from this.. your time. Speaking of which, what year is it?"

"2065." He narrowed his gaze.

"Has it really been that long?" He took a long pause, staring at the wall. Everyone he knew... dead. Most likely their names would get the response of "who?" from other people. If their names would never be recalled, would the things they did hold some recollection? Would it matter? "Some 80 years ago I was in critical condition. I was a failing kid in college. Perseus came to me and offered me a chance at redemption. I accepted. He trained me up to be a successful soldier. One of my earlier missions we were out numbered. We over estimated the enemy. I rushed a grouo of them to try and give my men cover to run. They made it out, I did too but not unscathed. Long story short I was in critical condition, it was fatal. So Perseus and his group of scientists put me through an experimental process. It was all theoretical, they had no way for sure to know if it actually worked. I was put on ice, I guess they forgot about me? Next thing I know I wake up, my pod in a plane, someones helping me stand." He took a hard gaze at his hand. "I jumped out of the plane. And now I'm here." He looked up at the man.

"Wow..." was all he managed to say. "So where did you manage to get clothing like that?" Walsh referred to his 80's attire.

"I wore it when I went under. It didn't make sense to me but I remember them being rushed for time."

"And how do I know your not lying to me?"

"Well... You don't. But I have no reason to lie, nothing to gain from it. Everyone and everything I ever knew is gone. Different. I'm just telling you what happened a long time ago. Do what you want with it, I can't persuade you. Not in a time like this where theres flying cars and robots who think for you." He wore a clueless look on his face, one of defeat.

Walsh took a hard look at Benedikt. "It ain't me you have to convince."

"I told you, I'm not trying to convince any of you. Especially not that robot boogieman of yours." He had a destain for Spectre. "If I heard someone tell me all this nonsense I'd think they were insane."

"Well, knowing who you are now. I can't exactly send you off into the world like you are. Plus your a soldier right? Soldiers always have a duty to fulfill. And it seems you have almost 100yrs worth of history to catch up on."

"I didn't even think about that." He mumbled. "Who won the war? The Cold War I mean?"

"Which one?" Walsh chuckled.

"How many were there?" He looked back up, his eyes wide.

"We're on our third."

"Not possible."

"It is. Unfortunatly. Back in your time though The U.S was shaken. Perseus sweeped out the last leg from underneath us just as we were about to end them. Nobody knows exactly how they came up with such a quick solution to crush us. We still don't. But that was years ago." He shrugged.

"What happened to Perseus?"

"They became the most powerful they had ever been. Its been like that since."

"Do you have any history on them? Records, recordings? Anything?"

"We have a few reports and footage from old secuirty footage but mainly just files here and there. They don't tell as much as modern ones would today."

"I want to see everything you have on them." Benedikt pulled a few small, thin tubes from his arms and threw his feet over the bed. He was suprised when he found his body to be anything but sore. Observing the effects of medical advancement, he felt great. Maybe it was how far they had come in the medical field or perhaps it was his own body. He had noticed before his interrogation had started how his wounds and brusies from previously were non-existent, like they had never happened.

"Hold on." Walsh placed a firm hand on his shoulder as the man began to get up. "You seem to be in need of better clothing. Put this on." He handed him a uniform and armor. "Once your ready come outside the door and I'll take you to our library." He walked out of the room.

He could faintly hear the man speaking with another person. A woman. Gripping was new, just manuvering with his artificial hand was new. It was also frustrating. He tossed on the dark green long sleeve and pants with an empty tactical vest with a leather finish to it. Picking up a small ear peice he attatched it to his ear and pressed it.

"Whoa.." he muttered to himself, a light grey helmet deploying onto his head. He found a nearby mirror and observed the futuristic looking imprints on parts of the leather vest. He looked at it closer to see a small word carved into the vest. Immortal it read. It was barely noticable unless you were looking for it.

Tapping the ear peice again he saw his face. How interesting the future was.

He stepped outside to be greeted by two gaurds along with his new 'friend' and a woman. They all glanced at him when the door slid open.

"So, time traveler?" The woman held his glance.

Benedikts heart stopped.

"I'm just messing with you." She laughed. "Things like that aren't even real. I see you've met Walsh." She looked over at the man he had been speaking with.

"Thats your name?" Benedikt looked over at him, seemingly unimpressed.

"Donnie, Walsh. But in the field its Ruin."

"Erin, Baker. In the field, its Battery." She said as they began to walk.

"Benedikt Romanov." He introduced himself, giving up on concealing his name anymore.

"So I'v heard. Walsh here tells me you were on ice for quite some time. What was it like?"

"Cold. It's strange waking up thinking you've only been alseep for a few days to a week like you were told, only to actually wake up some 80 plus years later. I feel like I'm learning everything all over again."

"Can't say I'v been through something like that." She sighed. "So before you went under what was your life like? I know you said you were one of Perseus' men right?"

"Yes." He assumed that they must have been the ones behind the rectangular frame of.. glass? Whatever the rectangle frame in his interogation rolm was. They heard everything. "I was one of the soldiers who worked closley with the man himself. But as I'v said before, I was close I dying, thats the whole reason I was put under."

"So no family? No friends?"

"No." He replied simply.

"Not even a wife?"

"I don't love. I just get the job done."

"I see."

The turned the final corner into a room. There were multiple shelves of small chips. In the center if the room was one large terminal. Walsh walked over to the terminal and pressed the power button, a large holigraphic blue screen hover over the terminal. He used a keyboard which also was holographic and searched for Perseus.

"Over there." He pointed to a shelf in the corner.

Baker retrieved a small chip and placed it inside a slot in the terminal.

"Everything we have on Perseus is right on this chip." Walsh said, not taking his eyes off the screen. "The earliest files take place in '68."

"It's not important keep going." Benedikt said, watching the screen.

"1982?" He asked Benedikt.

"Open it."

1981

Had they had done this on their own it would have taken months to find evidence of an American base in Antartica.

Perseus had sent them along with other soldiers to breach the facility and bring back their own.

"You think we might see some aliens out here?" Beck asked Park as they rode their snow mobiles.

"Theres no such thing Beck, no focus up. This isn't a game." She said firmly. Ever since Benedikt had gone missing the crew had taken note of her determination to get to this mission, how cold she had been, colder than normal.

Reaching the facility, they found no gaurds around the perimeter.

"We're coming Ben." Park said softly, busting down a door."
