AN: Glad the design for Izuku's Chimera form didn't get any bad reactions out of people. If anyone finds fan art for that form, please let me know. I'd love to have one as the cover image for this, but I have zero ability to draw.
AN2: As I'm sure many of you figured out, that with the addition of Inasa and Mirko, I'd have to remove two students to keep the twenty per class. I decided to change up who was in what class while I was at it, wanting to make an interesting personality mix for potential interactions and responses. I'll have who was removed from the overall Hero course, and why, listed in an AN at the end of the chapter.
AN3 (last one before the chapter, I promise): I'm still undecided on who should get OFA in this story. Izuku is a definite candidate as it would be an easy way to give him the 'advanced state' that we see Chimera use in the movie, but that also feels kind of like it would invalidate his own work to likely try and reach that ability (and I'm not sure how else OFA could boost his existing quirk). Mirko and Inasa are candidates. Mirio is a good option. I could give it to Sir Nighteye, Midnight, or Nezu for the sheer humor factor of what they could do with it. Point is, undecided. Tell me who you think should get it, why, and if you have ideas for how it could alter their quirk let me know.
Heir of a Monster
Chapter 3
-Izuku-
Face set and serious, Izuku walked through the halls of UA, Inasa and Rumi at his side. "So, spill Izuku." Rumi gave him the side eye once they were finally in the building and away from any groups "You've been all moody and serious since we got on the train this morning."
"Remember that villain that recruited my dad?" he glanced at his friends who nodded "Well turns out it's not just my dad he's recruited. There are two others I've managed to find out about and who knows if he'll get more later."
"So. There's one for me, one for muscles, and we just need to find one more person to occupy number three while you beat some sense into your old man." Rumi was completely unphased, "What we working with?"
"I already told you about Nine, the weather manipulator yeah?" Izuku glanced at them, getting nods from his friends "Well there's also a woman going by the name of Slice."
"Slice?" Rumi tested the name out "Something to do with knives?"
"Her quirk lets her manipulate her hair actually." Izuku stated, cracking a small smile at seeing Rumi stumble from that little revelation.
"…Heh?" Rumi twisted a finger in her ear like she'd misheard him.
"She can harden it, sharpen it, lengthen it, or even shoot them out like needles with enough force to pierce a boat till it explodes." Izuku pulled out his phone, showing a clip of her blowing up several armored vehicles with her hair needles while Nine watched. "I'm thinking you should fight her Rumi." Izuku explained "She can't go airborne like Nine can so we should stick to Inasa dealing with him, using wind to counter wind. You on the other hand I'd rather have be ready to out speed and then break slice."
"As long as I still get a good fight." Rumi nods, she and Inasa more than willing to trust Izuku's mind for strategy after years of witnessing him break down people and their quirks.
"What about the fourth guy?" Inasa spoke up, "What can they do?"
"A villain from Egypt code named 'The Mummy'." Izuku pulled up another video, this one showing a man in crimson bandages lashing out with them, anything the bandages wrapping around becoming a mummified puppet for the villain to control "He can't control anything living from what reports have found but he can control clothing and gear on people to use them as living shields if need be. For him we'd need someone who could cut their own way out or through the bandages. Or someone who can unleash enough raw explosive force to blast their way through."
"So, we'd need to find Baka-go minus the bitchy attitude." Rumi summed up.
"Exactly." Izuku nodded with mock cheerfulness as Inasa just laughed. Soon enough, the absolutely massive door to their home room came into sight, a surge of resolve coursing through his veins. "You two ready for this?"
"Born ready." Rumi gave a savage grin while Inasa's own expression, while far less bloodthirsty, was just as determined. Pushing open the door, Izuku saw they were the last ones to arrive, various students milling about or watching the argument between the glasses wearing guy Izuku had argued with and saved at the Exam and Bakugo.
"I insist you take your feet of that desk this instant!" the glasses wearing student chopped the air as he spoke "It's an insult to this institution and all who came-"
"Shut it you damned extra!" Bakugo snapped back with a sneer "What Middle School did you go to anyway."
"I want to Somei Private academy." The blue haired teenager answered instantly as Bakugo glowered harder.
"Somei huh? You some rich elitist bastard? YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN ME?!"
"Being better than you ain't that hard Mr. Fourteen." Rumi spoke up from the door, smirking at Bakugo as the feral bomber's head snapped towards them.
"It's you!" the blue haired guy's eyes widened as he spotted them, hurrying over as Rumi and Inasa tensed to get ready for another argument or fight. "I owe my deepest apologies!" the boy bowed low to the three of them as Izuku, Rumi, and Inasa just gave him a confused blank stare. "I treated you three rudely during the entrance exam, taking out my own nervousness on you when you did not deserve it. Then even after all that you went and saved me. So again, I offer my deepest apologies."
"No worries at all!" Inasa, always happy to forgive, forget, and make a new friend, gave a hearty slap to the guy's back.
"At least you admitted it." Rumi shrugged, deciding not to bother making another enemy right now, especially when she still had Bakugo to argue with.
"Just keep it all in mind going forward." Izuku decided to give the bluenette another chance, shaking hands with the glasses wearing teen. "I'm-"
"Wasting time." A tired voice spoke from behind them as most of the class jumped up, noticing an exhausted looking man in a sleeping bag worm crawl inside "My name is Shota Aizawa and I'll be your homeroom teacher." The tired man declared as he exited the bag, Izuku noting the distinctive capture weapon around his neck "I'll be calling roll in the order of seating assignment. Once your name is called, go place your belongings at that desk and get ready to head to the locker rooms."
"But…what about orientation?" the blue haired boy who Izuku was starting to get was just a socially awkward stickler for the rules, looked bewildered.
"It's a waste of time for the Hero course." Aizawa answered "Classes A and B are run differently than the rest of the school as your workload is much more intense. That said, the teachers also get more leeway to teach how they want so instead of going to Orientation where we'd just spend hours listening to the Principal give speeches, we'll be doing quirk assessments. More will be explained after roll call."
"Thank you for your answer, sir!" blue haired kid nodded with another bow.
"Izuku Midoriya." Aizawa yawned as Izuku stepped forward and took his seat with an acknowledgment. "Rumi Usagiyama."
"Here!" Rumi nodded with a grin as she moved behind Izuku, Inasa getting called and following to seat three a moment later as Izuku studied and listened to the other names being called.
Shoto Todoroki.
Momo Yaoyorozu.
Katsuki Bakugo.
Fumikage Tokoyami.
Tenya Ida.
Togaru Kamakiri.
Neito Monoma.
Itsuka Kendo.
Ibara Shiozaki.
Jurota Shishida.
Eijiro Kirishima.
Mina Ashido.
Mezo Shoji.
Tsuyu Asui.
Koki Koda.
Yui Kodai.
Kosei Tsuburaba.
"Good." Aizawa nodded once the last student was at their seats "In your desks you'll find your syllabuses as well as a map of campus. Leave the syllabus for now and use that map to head to the Locker rooms and then training ground A for your quirk evaluation. I expect you all there within ten minutes."
"Yes sir!" the class nodded as one, quickly moving to get their maps.
"Don't miss me too much boys!" Rumi gave them a two fingered salute as she headed to the girl's locker room, Izuku and Inasa going to the boys with a chuckle, ignoring the still glaring Bakugo.
"Um…Midoriya was it?" Ida asked as the boy hurried to the locker room with them, "Might I ask about a comment Usagiyama made earlier?"
"Calling Bakugo 'Mr. Fourteen'?" Izuku asked with a snicker as Inasa grinned wider, quite proud of himself whilst also pointedly ignoring the Todoroki walking near them.
"Yes, that." Ida nodded.
"Simple, Rumi and I went to school with Bakugo for years. He's rude, egotistical, and violent." Izuku listed off "He see's everyone as beneath him, 'an extra in the story of his life' and given the power of his quirk, our teachers always kissed his ass for years. But, he got fourteenth place in the entrance exam when he was regularly beaten to the punch by Inasa here." Izuku rapped a knuckle against his giant friend's bicep as they finally got into the locker room, ignoring Bakugo's snarls and grumbles about Inasa being a cheat.
"I…see." Ida clearly wanted to comment but was keeping in mind what had happened last time he jumped to conclusions. The rest of the time in the locker room was spent in silence as everyone quickly changed into their UA gym outfits to head to the training ground for whatever sort of test their teacher had prepared.
"Good, you all made it on time." Aizawa nodded satisfied, "The purpose of this test is simple. It's to determine if you get to stay in the heroics course."
"What?!" Izuku wasn't sure who'd shouted that, but he couldn't blame them, this wasn't what he'd been expecting.
"UA is the top school for Heroics in the entire country, one of the top schools in the entire world." Aizawa stared them down firmly "I can, and I will hold each and everyone in my class to the highest standards possible. I will push you to your limits and then past them. If I find you're not willing to push yourself, that you lack the potential or ability I expect to see in my students, then I'll kick you down to Gen ed until you manage to prove you have what it takes to make it back. Assuming someone else hasn't managed to claim your spot first." As brutal as it was, it made sense. The world wasn't fair but at least Izuku knew if anyone got the boot, they'd be able to earn their spot back.
"In Middle School, each of you should have performed eight different types of fitness tests." Aizawa continued "Today you'll be doing them again but with permission, no, the requirement to use your quirk in any way you can to boost that score so long as you aren't interfering with or sabotaging the other students." The man pulled a ball from his jacket "Yoarashi, you got first in the entrance exam-"
"By one point." Izuku mock grumbled under his breath, Inasa still hearing and sending a mock smug smirk his way.
"So, you'll be demonstrating the ball throw." Aizawa continued, either not hearing or not caring about the exchange, "What was your best record for that back in Middle School?"
"Forty-one meters sir!" Inasa declared proudly, his muscular body not just for show.
"Good." Aizawa tossing Inasa the ball "Do it here but this time use your quirk. Do whatever you want so long as you don't injure the other students or leave the circle."
"Yes sir!" Inasa nodded, taking the ball as he got into place, focusing as the winds began to swirl around the giant, whipping up dirt and leaves as Inasa let loose with his throw, the winds following the ball to push it further and further.
"Seven hundred and forty-eight meters." Aizawa read off from his recording device "This is the kind of ingenuity and determination I'm expecting from each and every one of you. Now get ready to pair up for the fifty-meter dash." Moving by Rumi, Izuku got ready for the race he already knew he was going to lose. Didn't mean he wasn't going to give it his best shot though.
Giving a grunt, the back of Izuku's track suit opened up to allow his unfurled wings, having worked to manifest different traits of his overall Chimera form without having to fully shift over the years. He knew Rumi would shoot ahead the second the signal to go was given so he wouldn't even have a chance to hit her with them if he wanted to, they'd still boost his speed though. Sure enough, the second Aizawa called for them to go Rumi shot off like a bullet, Izuku rocketing behind. Fast, but nowhere near as fast as the bunny girl.
"Three point zero one seconds." The recorder announced for Rumi, Izuku getting a score of four point ten seconds.
"Still not fast enough to catch me Izuku." Rumi teased with a grin as they looked to the next pair, noting the tense atmosphere of Inasa and Todoroki who didn't seem to understand or care about the cause. The two shot off at Aizawa's signal, Inasa propelling himself using the wind while Todoroki made a trail of ice, passing a hair behind Inasa and seeming irritated by it.
"You okay there man?" Izuku asked his large friend as Inasa joined him and Rumi to watch the rest of the others do the dash.
"…He seems just as cold and dispassionate as his father." Inasa admitted, showing his distaste for Endeavor.
"Well, he was raised by the guy." Rumi shrugged, "But you see that scar on his face? Who knows what his home life was like. Just don't start a fight unless he doesn't something to earn it alright?"
"You're telling someone to avoid a fight?" Izuku raised an eyebrow at his friend.
"No point fighting a classmate when he doesn't deserve to get his teeth kicked in yet." Rumi shrugged "Plus there's still Baka-go to kick around when he gets too pissy."
"There it is." Inasa rolled his eyes as they continued to watch the others. Many just ran it without quirks, their powers likely not giving them any sort of advantage in a foot race.
"Next test is grip strength." Aizawa led the class over to a box with a serious of devices ready to test their scores.
"Well, there goes my lead." Rumi mock grumbled as they grabbed theirs, shooting a look Izuku's way.
"I fail to se how wings would be of much use here." A blond guy, Monoma, stated with a roll of his eyes, Izuku noting him subtly tap the orange haired Kendo on her elbow.
"It's not just wings." Izuku rolled his shoulders before transforming, the tracksuit thankfully growing with him as he took his more monstrous form. His enhanced hearing like this picked up the shocked whispers of his classmates, some of them recognizing the similarities between him and 'The Chimera' but Izuku ignored them, squeezing on the grip strength device as it crumpled in his grip. Very few students did extraordinarily well in this one, but Izuku did note on student make a blunted blade shoot out of his palm to impact the force measurement device and boost his score. The ability to make blades could prove useful against Mummy.
Apart from that though the tests continued in rather the same vein. He, Inasa, and Rumi all cleared the sandbox for the standing long jump. For repeated side steps Rumi dominated thanks to her leg strength and reflexes while he and Inasa tried to use wind and wings to aide their endeavors. For the ball throw Rumi kicked it hard while he used a combination of his strength, fire breath, and wind from his wings to propel the small ball as far as he could. After that the only real test that provided chances for quirks to be of use was the long-distance run where he and Inasa flew, Rumi raced Ida who proved that while Rumi had better acceleration his top speed was higher, and Yaoyorozu made herself a moped.
"Very good." Aizawa nodded once the last scores were tallied, "You all put in the effort I wanted to see so nobody is getting kicked down to General Education, yet. But if I feel you're slipping you'll get one warning before that threat becomes reality. Now, you have the rest of the day off so go collect your syllabuses to study at home. I expect a report tomorrow about ways you feel you could have utilized your quirks better in at least one of these tests after more time to think. Dismissed!"
AN: So yeah. As I said before, I had to remove two students from the Hero course. I could have done what I did in Mind over Matter and just add an extra seat to each course, but I don't want to do that to much ya know?
First person removed was Mineta (pauses to wait for loud cheers to die down) as he wasn't all that strong to begin with and I remember it being mentioned in the wiki that he passed that entrance exam by gumming up enough of the robots that they deactivated themselves, inadvertently saving other students in the process. Given his minimal physical ability and the limit we know his scalp has for those balls I don't see him being in the rank 11-18 (since we know who got places 1-10). Thus, he just barely missed the cut in this story
The second person was Ururaka (pauses to let any potential boos and thrown garbage to die down) but I have an actual reason for this. In canon she was third place overall for that exam but that was with 28 villain points and 45 hero points, hero points she got for saving Izuku, something she didn't do here. The only other people who had lower villain scores from the top ten were Kendo (who had almost as many hero points as Ururaka in canon) and Izuku who had no villain points at all but a massive Hero point score. So, after thinking about it I just can't see her getting through if she wasn't saving Izuku or someone else in a just as bad situation.
