We were back in the Impala, slowly approaching the Brown family home once more. I told Taron everything, including how strong my abilites were and the reaction I had when we first went to the house.
While he didn't know all the details of the Brown family, one of the older mediums did know a bit about who they were, so I contacted them to get the rundown.
Melissa Brown is a medium, but her abilities were not what caused the reaction as the elderly medium stated that her abilities were just seeing ghosts and sensing demons. She didn't have special abilities like some of us did.
Melissa was an active member of the community, and later in her life she married a man named Brian, who wasn't a medium. He was an ordinary man who lived a pretty simple life, but I was told the connection he had with Melissa was extraordinary. They both truly loved each other and he was okay about Melissa having the abilities she had.
Unfortunately, the demon got to him before it got to Melissa, the same attack that killed my parents and hundreds of other mediums. Brian died protecting the love of his life, and Melissa was never the same after that.
She shut herself out of the community and stayed with her kids (a son and a daughter). Rumors began to circulate the community, with some believing that the death of Brian triggered both of her childrens' abilities and that she had to keep them from the outside world to train them. However, her kids were soon back at school, and when some local mediums tried to contact her, they never got an answer.
They tried to ask her kids, but all they got was, "We didn't get any abilities." That wasn't possible, though. Even if one of the parents was not a medium, all the children of a medium will have abilities.
Approaching the Brown house, I noticed that the strong energy I felt earlier was gone. That means whoever has these strong abilities is no longer in the house. The only energy I could sense was from a medium who did not have strong abilities.
That must be Melissa.
"Strong energy is gone," I said, "But just in case someone comes back, stay here so we can bolt."
Dean pulled over a few houses away so we won't get questioned. Before I headed out, Sam quickly stopped me, pulling me in to a small embrace.
"Be careful. Get out of there the moment you feel any danger approaching."
I nodded. "I will. Trust me, I don't know what this person is capable of and the last thing I want is to put either of you in danger."
Dean cleared his throat, causing Sam and myself to look at him. "Hate to...spoil the moment here but we are on a time crunch."
"Right," I said, pulling away from Sam. He gave me a little look of disappointment as I knew he wanted to kiss me before I went into the house, but Dean was sitting right in the front seat, and it just felt weird kissing his little brother right in front of him.
I looked over at Dean. "You see anything before I do, honk the horn."
"Ma'am yes ma'am," Dean said, giving me a little salute.
I just rolled my eyes and walked over to the Brown house. I looked behind me to see that Sam got into the passenger seat of the car, keeping an eye on me while Dean kept looking around the area to make sure no one appeared out of nowhere.
When I reached the front doorstep, I rang the doorbell. I was nervous as I didn't know how Melissa was going to react with a random medium at her doorstep, but she was the only lead we had.
The door opened and there she stood, bags under her eyes, looking like she hasn't gotten sleep for the past almost 4 years. I felt so bad for her, and I remember being in her exact position not too long ago.
"Hey, are you Melissa?" I asked.
She eyed me suspiciously, looking at me up and down. "Whatever you're selling, I'm not interested."
"I'm not here to sell...Melissa, my name is Sarah Walker. I'm just like you...I'm a medium."
Melissa's eyes went wide and she tried to slam the door shut, but I quickly stopped her.
"I'm not here to try to recruit you back to the others. I've been in your position and I understand the need to be alone. I'm here because the town is in trouble...and you're the only lead I have."
Melissa continued to stare at me with a blank expression on her face, but her energy betrayed her. She was...scared of something, but it didn't seem like she was scared of me, and there were no traces of guilt so she may not have any idea about what's going on.
Finally, Melissa opened the door all the way and motioned me to come inside. She escorted me to the living room, where I noticed a good amount of sages hanging from the ceiling in a plant pot. There was also an incense burning a bit on the coffee table along with a bottle of what looked to be holy water.
"Pardon the mess," Melissa said, "You just can never be too careful these days."
"No worries," I said, taking a seat on one of the couches, "Like I said, I know the feeling all too well."
Melissa took a seat in the couch opposite of me, looking at the incense to make sure it was still burning. "Who did you loose, if I may ask?"
"My parents. They died...protecting me."
"That's what Brian did for me...he offered himself in my place and when the demon told him no...well you can imagine what happened next."
"He refused to hand you over."
Melissa nodded, looking down at her hands, this still beinh a painful subject for her to talk about.
"I'm sorry if it seems like I'm prying," I said.
"No no, you're fine," she said, "It's still hard to talk about but...I guess my negligence towards my kids because of all that grief...I'm being punished for it now."
"You can't blame yourself for any of this. You lost the love of your life to a demon. If anything, they are the ones that need to be punished by being locked up in the depths of hell forever. If something happened to my boyfriend, I would probably be feeling how you feel right now."
"You have a boyfriend?"
I nodded, smiling. "His name is Sam. We've been best friends since we were kids. It took us a bit but...we admitted our feelings to each other."
"What stopped you at first?"
"Well, I am a medium but I'm also a hunter as is he. I was scared of possible rejection because...he's been through a lot and I know he would've wanted to protect me...a demon killed his college girlfriend, and he was scared that something similar would happen to me."
"Oh, God."
"It took a bit of convincing and for his older brother to tell us both to stop behaving like teenagers, but...here we are now."
Melissa gave me a small smile and I mirrored hers. I know I was here to get information regarding what's happening in the town, but I knew she needed someone to just talk to as well, someone who actually understood what she was going through.
"So," I said, "I...heard about your son...I'm so sorry."
"Yeah it...came as a surprise," she said.
"Can I ask...what happened?"
"Well...after my husband died, the kids powers began to show..."
So that rumor is true.
"Both of them showed special abilities, something I don't have. I did my best to train them and get their abilities under control, but it was hard. I eventually gave up and told them that we were going to lay low until they could get it under control."
"What could Nathan do?"
"He had an empathic ability, but the only thing he could do was know if someone was lying or telling the truth."
Similar to mine, except they can only detect the difference between a lie and the truth, I thought to myself.
"So...what happened to him?"
Melissa sat up a bit, looking at me in the eyes. Her mood shifted from scared to a mix of grief and anger.
"I found out later on that he was using his abilities at school. Nathan wanted to be popular so bad, so he began a little 'business.' He became his classmate's 'lie detector' and began to tell them if a teacher was lying or telling the truth regarding tests, grades...pretty much gaining as much information possible for a small fee. It soon went from teachers to students. He exposed who was cheating on who in relationships, which friendships were fake...he made so many enemies in that school."
"What made him want to be popular?" I asked.
"Nathan was always a quiet kid. He was very shy and didn't know how to talk to people. When his abilities awakened, he thought that this would be a good opportunity to make friends..."
"How did none of the local mediums find out?"
"We're really the only mediums in this little town. Everyone else is either outside of the town or outside the state. Yes, they visited me a few times, asking me about Nathan and April..."
"April?"
"Yes...my daughter..."
So we finally have a name for the sister. That crosses off one mystery on our list.
"I pretty much told them to piss off, that the kids had no abilities. They didn't believe me but left me alone anyways."
"So...April...what can she do?"
Melissa went from grief to scared, the same energy I got from her when I told her that she was the only lead we had on the town issue. It's only logical to think that April was the one who gave me that strong reaction earlier.
"April...she can communicate with demons," Melissa explained, "She can also force them out of hell, so if she needs information from them regarding hunting like you do or when the next demon attack is going to be..."
Well, that definitely explains the strong reaction I got when we first got here. April is the one with the strong abilities.
"Melissa...have you been in touch with what's going on around here?" I asked
"Somewhat," she said, "I know some teenagers are dying but they don't know the cause."
"Well...my boyfriend, his brother and I think we may have an explanation for that."
I then explained everything that's been happening in the town, from when Sam, Dean and myself arrived to tracing down the names of the victims and running into the Greek god of dreams himself. I then told her my theory: April summoned a sleep paralysis demon and is ordering it to go after the people who bullied Nathan.
It was the only explanation to what Morpheus said when he said that the demon was on a leash.
I expected Melissa to retaliate and say something along the lines of, "How dare you talk about my daughter that way" or throw me out of the house. However, she just sat there, head facing downwards.
"You know...years ago I would've said you are crazy," she finally said, "Knowing April's temper, though...it sounds like something she would do."
Melissa looked back up at me, fear in her eyes. "I don't know what else to do, though. I can't fight back against her. She's more powerful than me."
"I can probably fight back," I said, "My abilities are up to her level in a way. I can control a room full of people and play with their emotions. I tend to not use it as it's not...ethical. In this case, though, if there is a way I can calm her mind down so she can't target me or Sam and Dean, then we may have a chance of getting through to her."
"You can do that?" Melissa asked.
"Sure. We're going to have to think of a plan, though. Strong mediums can detect the levels of other strong mediums and I don't want her to think something is up."
"I may have an idea," Melissa said.
I waved goodbye to Melissa and walked back to the Impala. She gave me her cell number so she can text me on when our mission is a go. I wasn't sure about this plan, but we didn't have many options.
I got into the back of the Impala and Sam immediately pulled me close to him, my head resting on his shoulder. Dean started up the car and began to drive back to the motel.
"What's the scoop, kid?" Dean asked.
I explained to both men everything that was discussed between myself and Melissa. When I bought up the fact that April could summon demons, Dean's energy shifted from concern to terrified. Sam, meanwhile, I felt his body tense up, meaning that he was feeling the same way. I couldn't blame them, as this was a dangerous game we were about to walk into, but this is what we signed up for. Granted, the bullies needed some form of karma, but that doesn't mean they deserved to die.
"So what's our next step?" Sam said.
"Melissa's going to text me when her daughter is asleep," I said, "Then I'll go over and see if I can manifest something to calm her down so we can try to talk some sense into her."
"But what about the sleep paralysis demon?" Dean said.
I sighed. "Well, that's where the other problem lies. Once I can break the bind between April and this demon, that means we'll have a sleep paralysis demon running loose. One of us needs to lucid dream and get to the demon before it hurts anyone else. Since I'll be trying to help April and Melissa, I can't do it this time."
"Then who?" Sam asked.
"Well..." I turned to Sam, "I don't think it's safe for you to lucid dream because of your powers. Plus...I need someone to come with me in case things get rough."
I looked over to Dean. "As for you...it won't be a good idea for you to be the one to take me because well...I may have to manifest the energy at a strong rate and I don't know if April will try to target you as well."
"So I guess I'm doing this lucid dreaming?" Dean said.
I nodded. "I'll call in some help from the older medium. Her name is Helen and she can help with the protection spell and making sure there are no interruptions. She would do the dreaming herself, but her mind and energy is getting weak and it wouldn't be safe for her to go after the demon."
I looked to Sam. "Since I can't reach you with my abilities like with most people, I think it's safe to say that April won't be able to get to you."
Sam nodded. "If that's what we have to do, then we gotta do that."
I leaned back into Sam while looking at Dean. "You okay with this?"
Dean just shrugged. "What other choice do we have? Plus...I've always wanted to make my own sexy dreams so this should be fun."
I groaned and mentally smacked myself on the forehead. This was the worst idea, but like Dean said, we didn't have much of a choice.
After calling Helen and getting the list of ingredients that we needed to make the protection spell, I sent Dean out to store to get the items. I wanted to be alone with Sam for a bit.
The nervousness of what was to come later on was really getting to me. I couldn't think straight at all. I stared at myself in the motel bathroom mirror, my mind racing a million miles per hour.
Was allowing Dean to be the one to lucid dream a bad idea? Will Sam and I be able to stop April from hurting someone else?
A knock on the door interrupted my train of thought. "Can I come in?"
It was Sam.
"Door's open," I said.
Sam walked in and put his hand on my shoulder, rubbing it a bit to help me calm down. "You sure you're okay? I kinda feel like we were just in this position not too long ago."
I chuckled. "I guess so. To be honest...I'm worried, Sam. I'm worried that this is going to...Dean's a strong guy, but he's never done anything like this before. I know he'll have Helen here to help him out if something goes wrong with the lucid dreaming, but all I keep thinking is 'What if this...' and 'What if that...' Maybe we should just get someone else to do it."
When Sam closed the door, he sat next to me on the bathroom floor and I rested my head on his shoulder. "You're the only one who can stop this girl, at least awake, and because a lot of the other mediums can't get to me, it's better if I go with you, like you said in the drive back here. Either way, this demon has to be stopped because once they're summoned into this world, they are here to stay unless we stop it."
"I just wish we were able to recruit a medium to do this," I said, "But...Helen can't do it. Considering her age, it's too dangerous for her."
"Which leaves us with Dean."
"Still don't know how I feel about that."
Sam just chuckled and gave me a little playful nudge. "Hey, he's got this."
I just shrugged at smiled. I felt a little bit of my worries start to go away, but not completely. I know Dean can handle himself, but I know his weaknesses will be used against him very easily once the sleep paralysis demon gets in his head.
Sam took my hand and kissed the top of my head. He then used his finger to have me look at him before he kissed me on the lips. I responded back quickly as I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer to me. He bit the bottom of my lip and I glady allowed his tongue to enter my mouth.
I let out a little moan which caused Sam to smirk while continuing to kiss me. I soon found myself on his lap, my crouch sitting on his thigh, never breaking the kiss. The friction felt so good that I began to rock my hips back and forth a bit. It may not have been the appropriate time to do this, but when I'm under a lot of stress, sex usually helps me clear my head a bit. However, I knew that at any minute, Dean would come back from getting the supplies to help with the lucid dreaming, and God knows how embarrassing it'll be if he walked in and heard me moan like I am right now. It took all my will power to break the kiss from Sam, but I found myself grinding on his thigh a bit still.
"Sam...I'm stressed and...I want you but Dean could walk right back in here any second."
He smiled at me while stroking my cheek with his one hand. "It's okay. I can do something different if you want to...may help relieve the stress a bit?"
I raised my eyebrows. "Oh really?"
He smirked before leaning in for another kiss. He laid me down gently, grabbing a nearby folded up towel to put behind my head. His hand wandered towards one of my breasts, breaking the kiss to make sure I was okay with it. I nodded and he began to run his hands over them while continuing to kiss me. His hands reached down to my pants, playing around with the hem before once again looking at me for permission.
I nodded a little too eagerly, causing him to chuckle and then he bit my lower lip, allowing his tongue to enter my mouth. Sam's hand bypassed my pants and underwear, slowly stroking the outside of my folds. I moaned, trying not to be too loud in case Dean came back sooner than expected.
Sam moved away from my lips and kissed my neck, rubbing little circles on my clit. My moans began to get louder. I tried to hold in any noises coming from me, but I knew that it was impossible. I pulled Sam away from my neck by his hair. He growled a bit and I made him face me. "I need them inside me," I said, "Please."
I crushed my lips back to his as he quickly complied, one finger entering me. I began panting against his mouth but continued to kiss him. A second finger was added, causing me to moan out his name.
"Faster," I demanded.
He sped up, thrusting his fingers in and out of me while using his hand to rub up against my clit. I could feel myself reaching my climax and my moans began to get louder. I covered my mouth with my hand. I really didn't want Dean to walk in and hear me moan.
The build up began to come at a much stronger pace. I needed to grip onto something, so I uncovered my mouth and pulled Sam in for another kiss to help silence my moans.
Finally, my peak was reached and I let out a little gasp, arching my back in bliss. Sam pulled away from my lips to let me breathe and slowly took his hand out of my pants, licking his fingers and using a nearby towel to get whatever was left off.
I slowly sat up and leaned back into Sam, him wrapping his arms around me and stroking my head. I definitely felt a lot more relaxed. I probably would be more calm if Sam and I went all the way, but I knew that it wasn't a good time.
Still, I never thought that anyone could get me off that easily. I didn't know if it was because Sam knew where to pay attention to or if it was because it was Sam, period. I've heard about what sharing a genuine connection with someone can do when it comes to sex, and since this was my first time actually loving someone who loved me back, this was new to me.
"Thank you," was all I could say.
Sam chuckled and kissed my head. "You're welcome. You feeling any better?"
"Yes. I'm just...surprised, I guess. I never imagined getting off that easily, but then I remember that no one really returned my feelings for them...that is until I met you."
I looked up at him and smiled. "I guess it's different...now that I know the feelings are mutual."
Sam gave me a little smile back and continued to stroke my head a bit.
"Do you want me to return the favor?" I asked, realizing that he never got anything from this.
He shook his head. "I'm good. We don't wanna push our luck here as Dean could be back any second."
"But...aren't you..."
"Listen," he interrupted, "It wasn't about me. You were the one under stress, and the fact that you trusted me enough to help you out there...that's the rewarding part."
"Okay...what in the hell did I do in my life to deserve such a wonderful man?"
Sam chuckled. "I ask myself the same thing. I don't know what I did to deserve you as well."
I looked up at Sam and smiled at him before burying my face into the crock of his neck, his arms wrapped around me holding me close.
Sam's POV*
It was silent for the next few minutes, but it was a comfortable silence. Sam looked down at Sarah as she shifted herself comfortably against him. He loved that he could make her feel safe and that she trusted him. He truly meant that when he told her that.
Sure, he would've loved to get her on back again and bury himself inside her, thrusting until she was screaming his name, but even he knew that it wasn't a good time.
How embarrassing it would be to have Dean walk in on them having sex. Sam would never hear the end of it. Lorraine, however, wouldn't hesitate to punch Dean in the nose if he made any comment, and both men knew better than to piss Sarah off. She may be smaller than the both of them, but she was a feisty one.
It was one of the many things Sam loved about Sarah, though.
He continued to hold her close, rubbing her back in an effort to help her calm down a bit more. Suddenly, he heard the motel room door open and a knock on the bathroom door.
"Hey you two. You may wanna hurry the hell up on whatever you're doing in there so we can get this show on the road."
