The beginning of the peace negotiations with the Souls cannot be traced to one specific moment; however, many historians point to the Birthday Tape as a key turning point in Soul opinion. After a video surfaced of a group of humans celebrating the birthday of a baby born to a Soul and a human, Souls began to push back against the continued occupation of humans. Small communities of souls and humans living together existed prior to this tape, but they were spread out and lacked any real influence in the soul government. The Birthday Tape is often cited as the first time in which the idea of a treaty between the Soul's and humans, similar to the ones between Souls and life forces of similarly sentient species.

The video includes the singing of the traditional "Happy Birthday" and the humans and souls giving gifts that were made with the humble resources available to them in the cave where they had been hiding. The video also included the testimony of three souls, who had been living with the humans, and the stories of three humans who had been affected by the soul occupation. These testimonies captured the hearts of souls across North America galvanizing a powerful pro-human movement. This sentiment manifested itself in voluntary evacuations from some souls and a larger movement to end soul settlement and campaigns to end the occupation of humans.

The transition out of the soul occupation was far from smooth, marked by violent rebellions and contentious negotiations. After a ten year period, known as the human reformation, the souls began to allow human integration into the government that had been set up by the Soul's. The egalitarian government set up by the Soul's and the advanced technology proved to be beneficial to humans and the global society that we live in today has more of its roots in the Soul system of governance than the pre-reformation systems. The Soul's remain an ally of Earth and proved an invaluable resource as human society began to take its place on the universal stage.

AUTHORS NOTE: So there it is! Is this an ending? Did I finish something? I don't know if I can really even say I am proud of this, but I am proud of myself. I finished something I started and even if there are things I would maybe like to change, I followed through (at a remarkably slow pace). It has always been a dream of mine to be an author and truth be told I would be rather embarrassed if this ever got published, but I am amazed with myself for this small scale achievement of that dream. Finishing a work of writing like this, scatter shot as it is, means a lot to me. So if you read this ,THANK YOU! I mean it, I really hope you enjoyed it.
