Author's Notes
So after writing chapter 4 I decided I needed to get the bad taste out of my mouth and ended up staying up till 3 Am writing chapter 5. I like this chapter a lot more than chapter 4. It's a rather mellow chapter with nothing too intense happening but it introduces one of my favorite Naruto characters to the story in the form of Shikaku. I kinda just had the random thought of who Batman might meet in a library and Shikaku was the only one that came to mind, then I started wondering who would win in a game of shogi considering they're both geniuses.
Anyways I really need to get to sleep. Feedback is always welcome.
I do not own Batman or Naruto.
Please enjoy
Chapter 5
"You can stay in Konoha under three conditions. One, you will have to pay for your own residency. Two, you have to share your technology with us, and three, I need to know your name."
Batman pondered the conditions. The first condition was normal and expected. The second condition makes sense, Tsunade is the leader of a military based village and improved technology could improve efficiency drastically if it's used in the right places. The third condition is the obvious problem. Tsunade obviously realizes he wants to keep his identity hidden and so the action of revealing it is an act of trust, and also gives her potential leverage over him. The name Bruce Wayne doesn't mean anything here, no loved ones to target, nobody who wants to hunt him down, not yet at least, but he hardly wanted his identity known to a large number of people. The fact that he landed in this dimension means somebody else could as well. It was a small, very small chance, but Batman always prepared for the worst case. Always.
"I'll only share technology that can't be weaponized and I expect to be compensated, and I'll only reveal my given name."
"Deal." Tsunade reached her hand out.
Batman stood and took off his mask, revealing his face. He got a feeling the mask would attract more attention. He reached out and gave Tsunade's hand a shake, "Bruce."
After being released from the building Tsunade had said she would meet with Bruce to have the details of their agreement worked out the next day and called the Sakura girl from earlier, informed her of Bruce's situation, and assigned her to be his "chaperone" for the next couple hours. Tsunade then promptly walked off muttering something about reorganizing Team Kakashi.
Sakura guided Bruce around the village pointing out various different spots including restricted areas, various clan compounds, the citizen library, and a few local restaurants including a barbeque place and a place called Ichiraku. Sakura had also helped provide answers to many of Bruce's questions such as the political structure of the village, and some more information on Tsunade which led to him finding out that Sakura was Tsunade's student.
Sakura had stayed quiet for a while after that, seemingly fixated on Bruce's outfit.
"You need new clothes," she suddenly started, "Your outfit's drawing a lot of attention."
Bruce had noticed that a while ago but frankly didn't care, he drew a lot of attention back home no matter what he wore, both Bruce Wayne and Batman were quite well known so he was used to it, but he didn't object, he needed to see the marketplace and getting more stuff to wear while he was in this world wasn't exactly a bad idea. Also the billionaire in him had always enjoyed shopping.
The marketplace was quite busy compared to most other places in the village and had a vast arrangement of shops. There were shops for food, clothes, and about everything else you could think of, there were also a few shops that sold various ninja based goods.
Bruce was quickly guided to one of the clothing stores where they spent the next half hour picking out clothes and ended up deciding on some dark grey sweatpants, a black T-shirt, and a black jacket which he decided to wear over his suit for the time being.
After that Sakura said she had to restock on supplies for her next mission and dragged him to one of the ninja supply stores. While she went to collect various things Bruce took a look around the room. There were a large amount of weapons, mostly kunai and shuriken with some short swords. He also noticed a familiar looking paper and moved to get a closer look at it.
"Looking at the paper bombs?" Sakura questioned, moving to grab a stack for herself.
"Paper bombs?" He questioned back.
"Yeah, they're pieces of paper with seals inscribed in them that cause them to explode when infused with chakra, every shinobi uses them." she stated casually.
Bruce contemplated for a moment, that would explain what happened during his fight back in the forest. There would be a lot of uses for a paper bomb, traps, and attaching them to weapons for example, and if they're as common as Sakura says then that means that decoy paper bombs could make a good distraction.
Sakura quickly finished up and checked out her supplies, quickly flashing what looked like an identification card, and paying. She then led him to the place he'd be staying for the time being. Bruce had been supplied with a small apartment to stay in, which had been rented out for two weeks using the reward he got for capturing the ninja in the forest.
After Sakura had left, Bruce spent some time getting his new place organized. It was certainly smaller than his house back home but he had stayed in much worse places during his travels.
Bruce left for the citizen library soon after. It was time to get to work. The first thing he needed to do was do more research into this world he was now residing in, history, politics, anything that could give him a bigger picture of the state this world was in. He found out the largest and most powerful countries were the Land of Fire, which he was currently in, the Land of Wind, the Land of Water, the Land of Lightning, and the Land of Earth, with each of these countries housing one of the Five Great Ninja Villages: Konoha, Suna, Kiri, Kumo, and Iwa. He also read about the Great Ninja Wars, the Tailed Beast, and various other things.
Then he moved onto researching how to get back. Bruce had experienced alternate dimensions before and even knew how to create a machine to travel between them, but there were several problems with that. In order for that device to work he would need the locations of both his home dimension and the dimension he currently resided in, and while he knew the dimensional coordinates of his own dimension, he would need to figure out where this dimension is relative to that. Of course there's one more bigger problem, the device requires materials that don't exist in this dimension, or at least have yet to be discovered.
Bruce looked up from what he was reading. He had been at the library for hours now and had hit a roadblock. He tried looking for materials he could use as a substitute but he had no luck with that either. He leaned back in his chair and looked at the ceiling.
A man sat down across from Bruce and placed something on the table. Bruce looked back towards the man, he was a middle aged man probably in his 30s or 40s, with a goatee and his dark hair tied up into a ponytail, he also had two scars on the right side of his face. The man wore a dark green jacket that Bruce had noticed on most of the ninja he had seen here, the man probably came from one of the shinobi libraries upstairs.
"Care for a game of shogi?" he said in a tired and somewhat bored tone, "you look like you need a break."
Bruce looked at the board on the table and nodded his head, he did need a break. He was familiar with the game, he had learned how to play from one of his martial arts teachers, Bruce liked the strategy of it and had never lost a game after learning to play.
Neither of them introduced themselves, they merely placed the pieces on the board and started playing while making some light conversation. The man talked about how his son was in charge of the chunin exams which, Bruce had learned from his reading, was a promotion test of sorts while also being an opportunity for each village to show off their military strength to the other villages. Bruce himself mostly just listened, he could tell that this man recognized him which meant he knew everything he needed to know about Bruce, although they did have a good conversation about how he learned to play shogi.
The game went on for a long while, the man was good, better than anyone Bruce had ever played with before and neither of them seemed willing to lose. They managed to play all the way through until dawn when the man groaned in realization and stood up, shaking his legs back awake, "Sorry to cut the game short, it's troublesome but I've got work to do soon. My wife's gonna kill me for not coming home," he mumbled the last part and Bruce smirked a bit, "play again sometime? I could always use a good shogi partner."
Bruce simply nodded, "I'm sure you know where to find me."
The man raised an eyebrow and then sighed out a "troublesome". He started making his way out of the library but stopped and looked back, "I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Shikaku Nara, pleasure to meet you." Bruce nodded back and Shikaku turned and left.
