I do not own Rise of the Guardians or the Guardians of childhood book series the following fic will mostly be based on the movie but may have things from the books and other movies thrown in if I find it good for the plot this will be a series of connected drabbles and this is my first time writing a story like this and about Rise of the Guardians I will try my best but so you know spelling and grammar is not my strong suite anyway I love the movie and other's fanfiction about ROTG and wanted to give it a go I hope you enjoy
The battle was over, Pitch Black aka the Boogeyman was defeated, and the Guardians of Childhood had won. North known to the world as Santa Clause was flying his sleigh with the other Guardians in it. A recently revived Sandy aka the Sandman was dozing but secretly watching things. Tooth aka the Tooth Fairy was cooing at someone, her feathers fluffed up with adoration and the wind. Bunny aka the Easter Bunny was looking at the same thing with amusement while being thoroughly distracted from his fear of the sleigh.
What could be so distracting, amusing, and coo worthy. Well that would be the eternally 14 year old Spirit of Winter known as Jack Frost. Who was asleep toward the back useing his ever present staff like a teddy bear. It was only when their newest guardian's breath became slightly labored and a small look of pain came too his sleeping face that the others noticed something was wrong. Baby Tooth the newly named one of Tooth's mini fairy helpers started chirping at her mother to help. Tooth being the mother hen of the group, tried to look Jack over but could not get him to uncurel his body. Bunny with more medical training tried himself to no avail. It was the combination of Tooth's soft words, her caressing his head, and Bunny's gentle pulls had Jack uncurel enough for Bunny to check him over.
As they suspected Jack was hurt. They would need to x-ray his chest to be sure but, Bunny was certain Jack had some broken ribs. The others had some bruises but, nothing too serious. If they had known about Jack's ribs sooner they would have rush back to the Pole. Bunny called out to North "Oi North get a move on it will ya? Jack is hurt and needs your infirmary asap."
Looking back for a breaf moment with a worried look North took one of his portal snow globes out of his pocket. Whispering their destination of Santoff Claussen he threw the snow globe, opening a portal, and they flew through. With the workshop now in sight and, Sandy useing his sleep sand to keep Jack under and not feel the pain. North landed as quickly and smoothly as he could.
Once stopped North got out of his sleigh rushing to give aid. He asked "How is he? What is wrong?" Bunny with a worried grimace on his face answered "As far as I can tell Mate he has some broken ribs. Must of happened when he did that belly flop onto the dumpsters while fighting Pitch. Sandy's keeping him out of it but, we need to get him medical help pronto. Sandy ya think ya can keep him out of it on the go?" Sandy nodded giving a thumbs up. Taking charge as the most medical savvy of them Bunny ordered "OK I'll carry him. Tooth grab his staff. Sandy, Tooth, and Baby Tooth work together to keep him calm. North lead the way.
Everyone doing as ordered they went as fast and as smoothly as they could to the infirmary. Upon arrival with the help of the medical yetis Bunny's thoughts were confirmed. Jack had 3 cracked ribs on his left side. The rest was bruised. After applying some bruise cream and bandages Bunny left the infirmary in deep thought. The others who were waiting outside the room looked at Bunny with concern. North frustrated mumbled something in russian then shook the Pooka that was Bunny until he snapped out of it. "Bunnymund old friend what is wrong? The rest of us are very worried out here." North questioned.
Bunny took a deep breath to calm himself looked up and said "Alright everybody calm down Frosty's gonna be just fine. He has some bruising and 3 cracked ribs on his left side but, it will heal. Baby Tooth you can go see him but don't wake him. He needs the rest." The little fairy quickly but quietly flew in to see her friend. "As for the rest of ya I need to talk to you." They all nodded eager for Bunny to continue. "In order to check Frostbite over we needed to take off his shirt. Under the bruising there was something surprising and a little disturbing. Frost must of been in some serious fights. There are scars littering his body.
Shocked the first to speak was Tooth "Oh poor Sweet Tooth he must have been so alone and scared for so long. We should help him. Give him access to all our homes and kitchens whenever he wants..." She started babbling at high speed about all the stuff they could do when Bunny spoke up."Woah not so fast Toothy. While I agree with helping him we don't wanna overwhelm him. So let's just focus on one thing at a time ok?" "Bunny is right. Jack has been alone long time. May take time for him to accept help. We will be there in order to help him." North said.
While Tooth's maternal instincts were screaming at her she knew they were right. "Alright but, as soon as he is healed I say the next thing we offer him is help by offering him our places to stay." She insisted. They all agreed. Once that was settled they all went in to check on their new friend.
It took until early the next morning - most likely due to how little sleep they all had the last few days- but, Jack slowly woke up. Looking around his surroundings he realized he was in some kind of medical bay. He racked his brain but, couldn't figure out why. Then something to his left caught his eye. It was the Guardians. North and Bunny were asleep in chairs while Sandy was sending out dreams via the window and, Tooth was quietly directing her fairies. Jack tried to say something but, his dry throat caused him to cough. This alerted the two working legends and, woke up Baby Tooth who was on his head that he was awake.
A happy chirp from a happy Baby Tooth started Tooth into babbling once more. "Oh Sweet Tooth your awake. How are you feeling? Do you need anything? Are you hungry or thirsty? Oh you had us so worried." Jack looked bewildered for a moment then responded "I'm sorry Tooth I didn't mean to worry anyone. For how I'm feeling well my chest feels strangely sore and tight. As for being hungry or thirsty I'm kinda both but, mostly thirsty. As for needing anything I was wondering if you could tell me what happened exactly? Because the last thing I remember is falling asleep in the sleigh."
Tooth bite her lip while wringing her hands, turned around and said "Sandy will you please get Jack some food and water while I explain?" Sandy gave a thumbs up and flew out of the room.
She turned back to Jack wringing her hands still while he looked on expectingly. She took a deep breath and started to explain. "Well Sweet Tooth, do you remember the well the belly flop you took landing on a dumpster while fighting Pitch?" He nodded so she continued. "Well as it turns out adrenaline must have prevented the pain being felt until you fell asleep in the sleigh. So due to what happened I'm afraid you have 3 cracked and numerous bruised ribs. We well Bunny and the Yetis patched you up. Thereby explaining the soreness and tightness. However I'm sorry to say your going to be in that bed until you heal. We will help you though. That is if you want us to. I know that what happened at Easter was bad. And in all honesty I'm truly sorry for how I acted. I'm sure the other's are too and will tell you themselves but, I can't believe what we did. I mean we didn't realize our mistake until after you were gone and, there realy is no excuse for it. But we should have let you explain at least and listened to you. After all we just made assumptions and just emotionally lost it. But even though we don't know what realy happened and, you can tell us when your ready. The point is though I can't apologize for them but, I am extremely sorry Jack."
Jack looked bewildered then he said " Wow that was alot to process. But since you were honest with me I will be with you. I'll start off with the injures and go from there. Now I'm not surprised about the injuries due to how they happened. Also though I prefer to keep certain things to myself...at least for now. I will let you in on some things, because I think it'll help me heal better and faster. That and I figure it's a good beginning in getting to know eachother now that the battle is over. First off while this room is very nice it's starting to get too hot for me in here. Heat will not only slow my healing but, if it's strong enough it will make me sick. So if you could open the window that would be great and, I can explain the rest."
She did just that and when she finished Sandy came back in with a sandwich and a glass of water on a tray. He set the tray on Jack's lap with a smile and backed up and floated next to Tooth. "Thanks Sandy." Jack said while takeing a drink. When he had enough he began his explanation again. "So Sandy to catch you up Tooth explained my injuries and how I got them. Then she apologized for something she and the others did on Easter. But what that is and why I'm not ready to talk about but, when I am you and the others will get the full story ok?" Sandy nodded wondering what it could be but decided to wait until Jack was ready. "OK what else happened is that I started to explain a few things I need to and, only got through one of them before you came in. That being my aversion to heat being as in too much hurts me or makes me sick. Hence the now open window. However one of you needs to cover up Bunny cuz I can see him shivering from here."
Tooth quickly got a thick blanket and drapped it onto him. Once she was back in here original place Jack continued. "OK so the next thing is that the open window will help with another issue. ...I hate to admit it but, I'm clostrophobic. I'm also afraid of being trapped. However like I said the open window will help with both. Another issue is that I have a very hard time being still and cooped up. I don't know why I just get nervous and figity if I do it for to long. So the only way I've found that helps is to keep my mind and hands occupied. Like with a book or something. Now as for your apology Tooth. Well I still have some issues with it and with all 3 of you. But they can wait until we talk about it. And though what happened hurt..alot. I can understand your and their reaction to it. I don't condone it but, I understand it. And I decided before I made the oath to give you guys another chance. So though in all honesty I'm...well I'm still hurt by it. I forgive you for what happened. But for the record what happened on my end was not my fault. It was made to look that way by Pitch. But that is all I'm comfortable saying about it right now. So can we talk about more pleasant things while I eat?" The two nodded though Tooth had tears in her eyes and said "Thankyou Sweet Tooth." He said "Your welcome."
Just then North snorted awake thereby waking Bunny who mumbled "Errm Googies...wait what?" Jack and Tooth giggled and Sandy silently laughed. But the giggle Jack let out made his chest sore so he cut it off quick. Seeing this Tooth flew over to Bunny and said. "Good your awake. Can you help Jack with his pain? He is awake and sore at the moment." Bunny got up and started shivering as he walked to Jack. "Crickey it's cold in here." He said as he changed Jack's medicine bag. "Well you can use the blanket you had to warm up. Sorry Bunny but, I need the window open to keep it at a healthier temperature for me. To much heat causes me health problems." Jack explained.
"Well at least you guys thought of me with that blanket. Thanks for that." As Bunny finished North stepped up and asked. "How are you feeling Jack?" "Well my chest is sore and feels tight but, I understand why. And I have a bit of a headache most likely caused by Pitch too. I'll explain that one later. Beyond that and being a little hungry and tired I think I'm ok." "Well all of that we can fix. We will start out with hunger so go ahead and eat that sandwich da." As Jack dug in North continued talking. "Now as for soreness in chest Bunny has taken care of that with medicine. However if he will be so kind as to check your head we may fix that too."
Bunny did just that. He gently check over Jack's head and discovered another surprising thing. "Crickey Frostbite how do you not have a concussion with a knot this size?" Jack winced then responded "I don't know but the pain increases with touch and I'm starting to see spots." Bunny gently set his head back down and, quickly got an ice pack. As he put it on the right spot he asked "How did this happen anyway?"
Jack winced but soon relaxed. He looked around realizing they were waiting for an answer. "Alright it happen after we separated after the Easter fiasco. As for that story I'm not comfortable explaining it yet but, when I am we can all talk about everything that happened."
Bunny was about to argue but, Baby Tooth interfered by rapidly chirping in his face and waveing her arms at him. "Woah woah Baby Tooth Baby calm down I think he gets the point." Jack called out to her. She turned around and with one little sniff she started to cry and flew straight for his shoulder burying her head in his hoodie. Jack began to rub her little head and back saying "Aww Baby Tooth it's ok. I'll be ok I promise. Please don't cry Little Lady your breaking my heart over here." After another minute she calmed but didn't let go of him. He didn't stop rubbing her either. "Hey Baby Tooth?" She let out a little chirp that clearly ment "Yes?" "Thankyou for defending me and helping me and, basically being an awesome friend.
She sniffled a few time and started chirping but, it was clear to the other Guardians that Jack could understand everything she said. [ to help out reader's I will translate] "Your welcome. I care about you alot. Outside my mom and sisters your the first real friend I've ever had. I can't stand to see you hurt." Tooth started tearing up when she heard Baby Tooth say that. Jack's response made it worse. "You know what Little Lady..besides wind your my first friend outside of family too." "Really?" She chirped. "Really." He told her.
Tooth wiped her eyes and asked "Jack how can you understand her? Very few people can." Jack smiled still rubbing Baby Tooth and explained. "Well it's a part of being The Spirit of Winter. The other spirits of the seasons can do it too. It's called all speak. It basically means any magical language I audimatcally know. Any non magical language I can pick up quick."
They considered that then Tooth asked another question. "Your very good with Baby Tooth. You handle her just right as not to hurt her and, you talk to her with just the right amount of gentleness. It makes me wonder though do you have experience with it? Or does it come naturally?" "Admittedly it's both. I have alot of little fairy friends that help me with the seasons I bring. They are family to me along with Wind and a few others. Oh that reminds me I need to let them know what happened and that I'm ok. Brace yourselves it's about to get a little more cold in here." Looking to his right he called out "Hey Wind!" A gentle breeze came through the window and wrapped Jack in it's gentle embrace. Jack said "Hey Wind can you find the rest of the family and tell them what happened? Also tell them they are requested to come here so I can talk to them and the Guardians can meet them?" With another gentle embrace and saying "Yes of course." in her own way Wind left to do as Jack asked.
"Ya can talk to the wind?" Bunny asked dumbfounded. "Yeah she's my oldest friend in my immortal life and is a spirit too. She just can't take a physical form. She's one with her element." "And your family is comeing ?" North asked. "Knowing them Definitely. Oh but fair warning they are very overprotective of me being the youngest of the seasons and all. So be prepared for that and to face their tempers so expect alot of lectures and yelling."
They looked at eachother and all wondered. What would Jack's family be like? Jack yawned and said "Sorry guys but I really need a nap before they get here. Would you mind helping me out Sandy?" The little man smiled and floated over. Thinking for a moment Sandy thought of the perfect dream for Jack. He conjured it up with his dream sand and, gently sprinkled it over Jack's head. Soon Jack was fast asleep with a dream of his Mother, Siblings, the Guardians, and their helpers as one big happy family. Jack had a gentle peaceful smile on his face. The Guardians could not help but give one in return.
