We are finally outside the veil. Naturally, it wouldn't have much impact but this was my very first time going outside the veil after all these aetheric problems. Of course, I had the option of casting all these as out sighting, if only not for the monster we are about to face. Also, from now on, we have to constantly keep up our guard as the true danger was right beneath our feet.
Since Anabel was no longer being protected by the veil, she can be attacked at any time. The lurking danger of mutants we should be wary of. No matter how much experienced the people were, a small little mistake could cost them their lives. It was no funny business, living inside the veil was far better than venturing outside the veil. Mostly, those associated with HOUSES or people like us can venture outside the veil. We are, by no means, associated with HOUSES. Even then our influence as the heroes of Alola is no laughing matter. HOUSES have no control over us but there are times when HOUSE does call for our assistant. In those cases, you could likely say that we sometimes partnered up with HOUSE.
"I was wondering, there must be powerful people linked with the International Police, right?" I turned to Anabel as I asked her the question. "Well, this is Alola and the members of Ultra Guardians are indeed powerful but wouldn't it have been better if you had asked for other people?" Though my question came out kinda weird, despite that Anabel understood what I meant. I was talking about those people connected to Legendary Hero. Simply, I have seen the news of Looker working with Legendary Hero before. Because of his ridiculous outfit, it took me time to connect the points but I have seen him in news various times. And most of them were connected to Legendary Hero.
Honestly considering his background and connections, I wouldn't be surprised that he was to ask others people, far powerful than the members of Ultra Guardians, for help. While UG members are fairly powerful on their own accord, they couldn't handle the candle against those powerhouses. If anything, Looker must have known these facts. Even then, he decided to ask the UG for help. Considering the power scale of the monster we are going to battle, I don't know, I can't say for certain whether Ultra Guardians would come victorious or not. That's why I couldn't help but harbor some doubts inside me.
Anabel pondered for a moment before answering, "Your point is on the line. In fact, before all these, I asked him the same question," Anabel shrugged off, hesitating to answer. Wonder what kind of answer Looker represented to make Anabel like this. "He said that natives should take care of their own problems."
"Huh!?"
"He said that natives should-"
"No, I heard you the first time," I said, halting Anabel from repeating her statement. I mean, natives should take care of their own problems. He said that even though he knew the disaster that monster could invite. I can't help but think his answer seemed kinda childish. Especially, police won't say something like that. Maybe things would be different if we are talking about corrupted officers but Looker didn't feel like he would do something like that. At least, I don't think he would but who knows...
Maybe he was listening to us, Mamane inserted himself between our conversation out of nowhere, "Maybe he wanted to use the toilet of Aether Paradise. That was hilarious," said Mamane laughing his ass out. I wanted to edify him that such was rude behavior but his words piqued my interest. Rather than saying that, maybe it would be better if I say it was confusing but going by the conversation between myself and Anabel, it was hard to let go of what Mamane said.
While I wanted Mamane to briefly describe what he said, Mallow answered it without me having taken any Q&A session. "Well, you see-," Mallow cut short after saying that. I don't know if she was having a hard time expressing it or was imagining the scene after Mamane said something out of nowhere, I could still see Mallow's body shaking trying to hold back her laugh. Yup, it was probably the latter. If they were fussing about such a thing, I just hope it wasn't what I imagined. "See, when we were having a conversation, Wicke was called by a staff member, and we went to change into our suit. You do know that changing room is direct across the Wicke's office, right? So, when we went to change, we saw from the corner of the eyes, that Mr. Looker was running out of the room holding his butt tightly."
Mallow also laughed together with Mamane. I haven't seen the same scene as them, so contrary to them, 'eh!' was all we could say. While mine was a genuinely surprised voice, Anabel face-palmed, saying sorry for Looker's behavior. I should have known considering how he dressed up. I know I shouldn't think like this but I couldn't help but connect the point between Looker and the shadow I saw. I shook my head to let go of such a thought. I looked back at where Looker and Faba were talking, for a second I thought our eyes met but I quickly turned away, resuming my pace with my friends.
"Say, Mallow, do you know what time Mr. Looker run out of the room?" I asked to hope to gain some more idea about the situation. No matter what I do, for some reason, I couldn't subdue this uncertainty feeling inside my heart. Mallow shook her head as she said she didn't know the time but she did inform me that it was after few minutes after Anabel and I headed toward another room. If judging by the time, then it would be- I once again shook my head. Nothing good will come out just with intuition.
I looked toward the sky, as the sun had already reached the other side of the sky. So much had happened on a single day that I don't even know what I should fathom. So much happened and for some reason, I don't think if this will end with just this much. "By the way, why so much interested in Mr. Looker? Don't tell me it's the first sight love?" Mallow perked over my face, poking my cheek while making a face as she knows how I feel. It's not bad to have a friend like her. In fact, maybe it's this feature of her that I can consider her as my friend. Always gleeful and easy-going.
I rejected her statement, "I just thought he was an amusing guy." I gestured with my eyes. "Well, at least from the point of how he dressed up and other things." Other things obviously relate to how he ran out of room. Mallow took my words at face value as she laughed with me. I'm not planning to tell anyone what was going over my head.
Well, if it were Anabel, I don't know if she could tell what's going on in my mind. At least considering from her job and etc. But that's wasn't the case as Anabel wasn't following our conversation. If anything, she was looking at her surrounding anxiously. It didn't take much effort for me to figure out what was going inside her head right now. Normally, this may come as surprise because I told you that Aether wasn't supposed to affect humans but Anabel was somewhat different. I had already tested inside the paradise that her body was indeed affected by the Aether. It won't be wrong to say that her body gives off the same vibe as Aether. While she can't work in the same way as Aether, like changing normal pokemons into mutants, it was a different case when it comes to Mutants.
"You are wondering why no mutants have attacked us, aren't you?" I asked bringing Anabel's focus back to us. I was planning to use this ability of Anabel to get myself a mutation but till now, I haven't had a single chance to get them. The reality was, I haven't even seen them, forget about catching. If just talking about distance, we have walked far from the checkpoint. By now, even without Anabel, we should have been attacked by mutants but to walk this freely despite having Anabel with us was perturbing.
Anabel nodded at me at my question, feeling uneasy about her surrounding. It wasn't just me and Anabel, either. Every member of Ultra Guardian felt disturbing. It was especially true for the member of UG who usually goes out for the hunt more than me. On this land where mutants should be filled were none to be seen. It didn't take me long to reach the answer as the cooling breeze went past me as some liquid-like thingy splashed on my face. Normally, I would just think of it as nothing but if the friend in front of me were to be injured, the situation demands differently.
In another word; Monster.
