I have two weeks until the party to book a hair appointment, find a date, killer dress, and amazing heels that'll add three inches to my height.

I know Rose will be more than willing to help with the fashion part of the mission.

What I don't know is why I'm so intent on doing all of this with Edward in mind.

Maybe it's because he's been paying more attention to me over the last couple of days. It hasn't necessarily been good attention, since it's laced with snark and attitude.

But still.

I can't say I've entirely hated it.

Not quite the end of the day, but the lack of light in the December sky makes it feel later than it is.

Jared stalks past the window of my office before he stands just inside the doorway.

He smiles. Dark hair. Blue eyes. "Hi."

"Hi," I reply.

He's not bad-looking. His features aren't as sharp or interesting, though.

I realize I'm comparing him to... Edward.

"Was wondering if you wanted to accompany me to the holiday party?"

I think about Edward's stifled laugh in the elevator the other day. "Sure."

He grins. I mentally cross date off my list.
