A month! How? Why? What?

These thoughts and more swam through Wes' mind. Danny was on the same track.

"What do you mean?"

"A month ago, you disappeared. Everyone's been looking for you two. We've been worried sick, dude. But that's not the worst part!"

How is this not the worst part? Wes thought.

"Undergrowth is back. And he teamed up with Vortex." Oh. Mr I-Will-Cover-the-World-in-Plants-and-Eat-All-the-People being buddies with Mr Storm-of-the-Century. Perfect. "C'mon. I'll fill you in on the way."

He led them to the Speeder. He skirted the city's edges.

"We've gone underground. Vortex has had it raining for weeks now." Tucker held his hat in his hands, twisting and untwisting it. "Undergrowth turned most of Amity into his plant-zombies. Once a week, Vortex stops the rain so Undergrowth can tend to his plants and zombies."

Wes watched the swamp that had been Amity Park speed by. Vines stretched up walls; the streets were flooded. Trees sprouted from rooftops.

"Where are we going?" Wes asked.

"Amity Park Penitentiary."

"Why there?" asked Danny.

"It has a tunnel system underneath. Sam says the guards were, shall we say, lax in their duties. The inmates were left to their own devices for the most part, as long as they actually stayed imprisoned."

"That's weird, even in Amity Park," Danny noted. He sat in the copilot's seat, checking the screens and buttons and lights, looking for all the world like he knew what he was doing. Wes wondered if he really understood it all. At the moment, he was eying what looked like a radar, with its spinning green line on an empty grid.

"How we lookin' on the ghosts, Danny?"

"Clear, for now."

They're so… professional, Wes realized. They've done this before.

"We're here," Tucker announced.

"Danny!" sounded a shout. Sam Manson.
