Chapter I: Midnight Channel of Desire

It was another day in the quiet town of Inaba as everybody went about their lives like usual. The same could also be said for the town's local high school.
Almost everybody was happy with their quiet and average lives in the town. Well, the keyword is almost.
Sitting at a desk in Classroom 2-2 was a girl who looked very bored. This girl had long copper-colored silky hair tied into two pigtails, chestnut brown eyes, and beautiful pale skin. She was wearing the Yasogami High School uniform with a white turtleneck tucked underneath and long stockings that went all the way up to her thighs.
This is Rise Kujikawa.
This young woman transferred to Yasogami High about a few months ago after taking a break from her career.

In other words, Rise felt that most of the people she interacted with on a daily basis didn't really see her true self.
What was her true self?
Rise is a cheerful, outspoken, naughty, cute girl who tended to be quite boastful about herself while being very sweet deep down. Her best friend Chie once called her a "dangerous girl" because of her boldness of flirting with her boyfriend Yu upon first meeting him.
Rise gets quickly annoyed by the smallest things, which ends with her crying dramatically and sometimes producing crocodile tears. She's rather childish and possessive; she once pouted and told Yu he mustn't call another girl "cute". This actually resulted in a somewhat friendly rivalry forming with her mysterious friend Marie.
In other words, Rise is a lovable brat who deeply loved her boyfriend and their best friend who got disillusioned with being an idol.
Well, it's actually a little more complicated than that. She didn't miss being a singer because of her millions of fans constantly screaming at the top of their lungs making it impossible to hear herself. She didn't miss being an actress because she'd have to spend hours upon hours trying to memorize lines and make sure that she had the right mindset for whatever her current role was at the moment.
She did miss the modeling, however. There was just something about the thrill of knowing that people were seeing her perfect slender and hourglass body whenever she wore any swimwear or anything else just as revealing whenever she did a photoshoot or filmed for a commercial. Plus it helped that it was quiet for the most part and there wasn't really much memorizing involved. She didn't like most of the soft drinks she was advertising though.
Even though she was currently trying to walk away from the idol business, she felt unsatisfied with her life.
Sure she had the greatest boyfriend ever who she was one hundred percent certain she'd marry one day and spend the rest of her life with.

As Rise sat in the chair at her desk, she was currently leaning over with her arms stretched out on the desk with a big frown on her face. She lost interest in whatever their teacher Kinshiro Morooka was ranting on about this time. She always felt irritated whenever she heard "King Moron" express his hatred towards modern teenage culture through his buck teeth.
Rise looked in front of her and saw her boyfriend sitting at his desk diligently writing down notes in his notebook. She was always amazed by his sagely knowledge and rock-solid diligence as she saw Yu's pencil moving around as fast as a racecar.
Yu Narukami was a tall young man with bowl-shaped silver hair and gray eyes. Like everybody else, he wore the Yasogami High School uniform, but he kept the jacket open which Rise found rather cool.
Yu is friendly, reserved, determined, straightforward, and had a habit of shaking people's hands whenever he met new people, something that Rise giggled at every time she witnessed it. He is a fairly sarcastic and witty person, occasionally making jokes at the expense of his classmates and especially King Moron.
One thing that Rise really loved about Yu was how caring he was for his younger cousin Nanako Dojima, with who he lived along with her father and police detective Ryotaro Dojima. Since Ryotaro wasn't around too often because of his work, Yu tasked himself with taking care of his darling little cousin, with the help of "Big Sister" Rise of course.
Rise's attention went to Yu's shoulders. Yu had broad shoulders thanks to the amount of physical activity he did all the time as captain of the soccer team.
Rise licked her lips as a sultry look appeared in her eyes. Even though that Rise never really had sex before, her sex drive was extremely high. Chie was what many would call energetic and outgoing, an "extrovert" in other words. She has a bright and upbeat personality, often trying to cheer up her friends by joking about classes and personal life. She can be rather short-tempered and can be slow to back down from a challenge.
Chie, in a way, could be considered a "tomboy". She is obsessed with kung fu and is a huge fan of martial arts movies, most prominently Trial of the Dragon. Chie has a strong sense of justice and a fierce desire to protect others. She is willing to defend strangers from being threatened and attacked by local delinquents. Chie wants to protect Rise and Yu above all else, who serve as strong motivators in wanting to become stronger, constantly training her kung fu moves and challenging herself physically.
Right now Chie was looking at Rise with a look on her face that just said "really". The kung fu fanatic was resting her head on her right hand while tapping a pencil on her desk with her left hand.
Rise playfully stuck her tongue out in response to Chie's look.
"EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM IS A WHORE!", Chie and Rise put their attention back onto the homeroom teacher King Moron.

As Chie and Rise were getting their school bags ready, Yu walked to them with his bag on his right shoulder. He had his usual warm and caring smile on his face as he looked at his girlfriend and their best friend.
"I don't think Marie is going to appreciate it if we keep her waiting."

Standing at the front gate of the quiet town was a girl.
This girl had pale skin, chin-length brownish black hair, and bright green eyes. She was wearing a sleeveless white shirt, a short black necktie with various safety pins and a checkered skirt along with a black belt and a fancy, golden buckle which resembled a heart with wings. Additionally, she has black-striped red fingerless gloves and black-striped white stockings. Her black long, dark gray heeled boots are checkered as well. She was carrying a deep blue bag, adorned with golden designs and matching her officer's cap with a golden button and a V gravure. She also wears a special red choker necklace with a lock.
This girl is Marie. She is a mysterious girl with amnesia Yu met on his first day in Inaba at the train station who currently lives with Chie.
When Yu, and later Chie and Rise, first met Marie, she seemed to be a very cold and antisocial individual. She is sullen, cranky, sarcastic, irritable, very foul-mouthed, and often prone to mood swings. She doesn't hesitate to voice out her opinion or express her thoughts, regardless of how it would make everyone feel.
However, her "lack of emotion" is basically just her way to deal with her own shyness, insecurity, and naivete. Because of her lack of memories, Marie is unaware of many aspects of the world and modern conveniences, she actually called an electric outlet an "eclectic loutwit" once.
When flustered or embarrassed, Marie tends to speak rapidly and insult the source of her embarrassment, like "shutupIhateyouyoustupidjerk!".
She does have an innocent side though, which is why she wants Yu, Chie, and Rise to show her Inaba: She wants to learn about the world and who she really is.
Marie sometimes expresses her thoughts in poems which often deal with depressing themes like farewells and existentialism, questioning her own origin. Her poems are often found on the ground in the bedroom she shares with Chie, only to be embarrassed and swipe her poems from Yu after he reads this. Besides this, Marie is into fashion, loves nature, and is apparently concerned about her figure, which is why she only eats healthy food.
Marie currently has a rather strong bond with Yu, and she does have feelings for him. Their closeness is enough to have made Rise jealous many times, which has always ended up with the two arguing over him.
Right now Marie was leaning against the stone wall with her hands behind her head. She was chewing bubblegum and occasionally blowing a bubble every few minutes.
The reason why Marie was at the front of the Yasogami High School was that she was waiting for Yu and their friends.
Marie had a bored expression on her face as she watched hundreds of students walking out of the high school and heading either to home, part-time jobs, or a restaurant to eat with friends.
Occasionally Marie would get flirted with by one of the passing high school students on days she went to Yasogami High. But each time this happened, she would always turn them down because they weren't remotely interesting to her. There were only three people who went to this school that she found interesting.
Speaking of those three.
Marie's expression changed to happiness when she saw Chie, Rise, and more importantly Yu walking over to her.
"Took you three long enough.", Marie quipped with a deadpan voice.
"Give us a break Marie-chan, we were dealing with King Moron's usual bullshit.", Rise replied back as she rolled her eyes at Marie's statement.
"Whatever, are we going to this July's place or not?", Marie said as she and the others began to walk away from Yasogami High School.
"It's called Junes, Marie-chan.", Yu corrected Marie.
"I still can't believe that you've been here for about five months and you still haven't set foot inside our town's department store.", Chie said as the four of them walked along the Samegawa Flood Plain.
"What's a department store?", Marie asked as she watched the fish nicknamed the "sea guardian" jump out of the riverbed and back into the water.
"It's a place where you can buy anything you can imagine.", Rise answered as she held her arms out for extra emphasis.
"Wow", Marie's eyes were practically sparkling at the idea of buying a device that can allow the user to make any excellent poem they wish in an instant.
"As long as it's realistic.", Rise replied, apparently knowing what Marie was thinking about.
"StupiddreamcrushingjerkIhateyou!", Marie blurted out with a few cross popping veins on her head.
"You can easily find plenty of pencils and paper Marie-chan.", Yu patted Marie on her left shoulder with a kind smile on his face.
Marie smiled back while Rise had a look of jealousy on her face. The former idol walked over to her boyfriend and wrapped herself around Yu's left arm.
"Oh", Yu looked at Rise with affection on his face which Rise returned in kind. The moment Yu looked away from Rise, she stuck her tongue out at Marie and pulled down her eyelid with a finger.
Marie simply gave Rise the middle finger with an annoyed expression on her face.
Chie on the other hand just watched with a slightly unhappy look on her face.
~~~Fifteen Minutes Later, Junes Department Store~~~
Marie was looking around the giant mall of Inaba with interest as she took in every sight. Chie, Rise, and Yu couldn't help but sweatdrop at everything that Marie looked at like Yu's younger cousin Nanako.
Right now the four of them were in the electronic aisle and Marie was looking at a demonstration of a robotic vacuum cleaner that was the size of a frisbee.
"My folks thought about getting one of those but Muku would just destroy it.", Chie said to Yu and Rise, referring to her family's large pet dog.
Chie, Rise, and Yu then saw Marie walk away from the vacuum cleaner and down an aisle towards the expensive large 4K televisions.
When the three of them caught up with the amnesic girl they found Marie looking at a very detailed demonstration on one of the televisions. The demonstration was one of those typical videos of multiple colors, very detailed close-ups of flowers, crystal clear views of deep blue ocean water, and forests full of life that were clearly not in Japan.
"Hey, my family has one of those.", Rise said as she pointed at the television that Marie was currently watching.
Chie walked over to the television and looked at the price tag. Chie's eyes instantly widened, and her mouth fell to the floor.
"FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND YEN!", Chie yelled as she continued to look at the price tag.
"I was an idol remember.", Rise said, causing Chie and Yu to look at her each with a sweatdrop on their face.
Suddenly the television screen that Marie was looking at changed to static causing Marie to groan in disappointment.
"Of course the one at my house doesn't malfunction." Rise commented as she, Chie, and Yu walked closer to Marie and the malfunctioning television.
Chie looked around and noticed that all of the televisions had static on them. "Okay that's weird.", Chie said to Yu as he also took notice.
"Huh?", Marie brought her face closer to the television when she saw a pale feminine hand come out of the screen. The hand beckoned for Marie to come closer with its finger before disappearing back into the screen leaving a rippling effect. The amnesic girl raised an eyebrow as she raised a hand and put it on the screen.
"Whoa…", instead of just staying on a hard surface, Marie's hand went through the television screen like it was water. In fact, where Marie's hand was, there was now a ripple effect around it.
"WHAT THE FUCK!", Rise shouted as she pointed to what Marie was doing to the television.
Chie and Yu instantly brought their attention to Marie. Chie looked at the whole scene unfolding in front of her eyes with terror while Yu still had his regular expression on his face.
Yu walked over to Marie and the television and put his hand on the television screen. Just like Marie's hand, Yu's went through the screen and left a ripple effect around.
"Interesting.", Yu quietly said out loud as he still had his usual expression on his face as he moved his hand around on the screen like it was water and not a solid object.
Suddenly something grabbed Marie's and Yu's hands and began to try pulling the two inside the television.
Chie and Rise ran over to Marie and Yu and tried to keep them from being pulled in. Chie grabbed onto Marie while Rise grabbed onto Yu.
"LEAVE MY YU ALONE!", Rise shouted as she tried everything in her strength in order to stop her boyfriend from being sucked in. "WHAT THE FUCK IS DOING THIS!", Chie shouted as, despite the best efforts of herself and Rise, Marie and Yu were still being pulled into the television.
Whatever was trying to pull Marie and Yu into the television decided to yank its prey into the television hard causing the two aforementioned along with Chie and Rise to be sucked into the television.
A large ripple was on the screen for a few seconds before disappearing. The static screens on the televisions then disappeared and the regular demonstrations resumed.
~~~Unknown Location~~~
There was a large open room with dimmed lights, a purple carpeted floor, and a circular stage with a golden dancing pole in the middle of it. The stage had dimmed lights in the center of it around the dancing pole and around it was a dark red carpet with golden patterns sewn into it. Surrounding the stage were red sofa couches with dark purple pillars behind some of them. The walls had light purple curtains and neon purple heart-shaped lights that would dim and brighten periodically.
Standing next to the dancing pole was a girl. This girl had long copper-colored silky hair tied into two pigtails, yellow eyes that had a golden gleam, and beautiful pale skin. She was only wearing a gold string bikini top and a golden string bikini bottom that left very little to the imagination. Attached to her right pigtail was a large silver hair decoration that looked like a satellite dish.
Except for the eye color, this girl looked exactly like Rise Kujikawa.
The Rise lookalike looked behind and saw two girls sitting on a couch.
Grinning, the Rise lookalike turned around and began to walk away from the dancing pole and towards one of the red couches surrounding the stage. The girl made sure to sway her hips as she walked.
When the girl got to the couch, she found another girl sitting on the couch with one leg over the knee of the other. Her arms were stretched across the back of the couch.
This girl had dyed light brown bowl-shaped hair and yellow eyes with a golden gleam. This girl was wearing a thin golden leather tube top, a golden leather tube mini skirt, elbow-length fingerless golden leather gloves, and knee-high open-toe stirrup golden leather socks. On the top of her head was a golden beanie cap with two black dots on the front with a red smiley face just above them.
Just like the Rise lookalike, this girl looked exactly like Chie Satonaka minus the eye color.
The Rise lookalike and the Chie lookalike looked at each other with excited smiles on their faces.
"They're here!", the Rise lookalike and Chie look-alike said at the same time in an excited tone. The two even sounded almost like the girls they looked like, except their voices were strangely distorted slightly.
The Rise lookalike walked to the entrance of the room while the Chie lookalike got out of the couch to follow after her.
The two scantily clad girls then stopped at the entrance of the room with Cheshire grins on their faces. The Rise lookalike sat down on the ground while the Chie lookalike leaned against the doorway.
The two were looking down the hallway leading to their room, clearly waiting for something or someone.
~~~Another Unknown Location~~~
"Rise-chan, wake up! WAKE UP!", Chie yelled as she shook her friend who was lying on the carpeted purple floor unconscious.
Chie had only woken up a few minutes earlier to find herself in a hallway that looked like it would belong in a strip club. The carpets had flower and heart patterns on them, the walls only had curtains on them which had bright lights shining on them in the shapes of hearts, and the ceiling's lights were dimly lit.
The music that was currently blaring on the speakers certainly did not help make this unknown location not feel like a strip club. The beats of the music sounded like a rhythm that a stripper would dance in time to while removing article after article of clothing.
Rise found herself blushing heavily as she concentrated on listening to the music a little bit. The former idol then squinted her eyes and placed a hand on her forehead as her head felt strange.
"What's with this place?", Rise said to herself as she tried moving her hand around in a circular motion to try to help herself relax. Even though she was in a strange place with her best friend and her boyfriend and their other friend was nowhere in sight, Rise honestly didn't feel too worried.
Without even noticing, Rise was lightly tapping her foot in rhythm with the music while swaying her hips slightly. A small smile appeared on the former idol's face as she began to sway her hips more. The small smile then turned into an erotic grin as Rise closed her eyes again and chuckled a little bit.
Chie raised an eyebrow as she watched her best friend act in a very strange manner that was even stranger considering the circumstances they were currently in.
"Rise-chan?", Chie raised an eyebrow as she gently placed a hand on Rise's right shoulder.
Chie's eyes widened when she saw Rise open her eyes. Instead of her irises being their usual chestnut brown, they were yellow. Rise then licked her lips as Chie just starred at her.
"Ahahahahah!", Rise laughed, causing Chie to step back looking rather unnerved at her best friend, "C'mon look!", Rise loosened up the golden ribbon that was tied in the front of her blouse. "You can't tear your eyes away! This is me!", Rise stepped up to Chie and wrapped an arm around her while removing the ribbon part of her seifuku and dropping it to the carpeted floor. The former idol then placed her other arm around Chie, "This is who I really am! Not Risette, the fake celebrity! Look at the girl right in front of you!", Rise whispered into Chie's ear, causing her best friend to actually groan a little bit at how Rise's hot breath felt on her skin.
With her erotic grin still on her face, Rise took a step back, "I'm sick of being some airhead cliché who chokes down everything she's fed and takes it all with a smile!", Rise began to unbutton her school jacket while kicking her shoes off. "Risette? Who the fuck is she?", Rise's smile turned into a serious frown as she removed her school jacket and dropped it to the floor. "There's no such person in this world! I'm no one but myself!", Rise placed her hands on the bottom of her white turtleneck and began to lift it up, "C'mon look at me!"
Before Rise could expose her bra, Chie placed her hands on Rise's arms and yelled, "RISE!"
Rise's eyes became chestnut brown again as a confused look appeared on her face.
"Chie-chan, what in the…" Rise looked down at Chie's arms and saw that they were on her own arms which were trying to remove her white turtleneck long-sleeved shirt. With a face that was as red as a tomato because of the embarrassment, Rise immediately released her fingers' hold on her turtleneck, which promptly covered up her torso.
"Wa-Was I…tr-tr-trying to strip?", Rise stuttered as she realized she wasn't wearing her school jacket.
"Yes.", Chie bluntly said, which caused Rise to look even more embarrassed, "Not only that, but your eyes also became yellow and you acted strange!", Chie threw her arms into the air for further emphasis.
"Strange?", Rise asked with a raised eyebrow.
"You talked about me needing to look at you while explaining about how this is the real you and your Risette persona was completely fake.", Chie explained.
Suddenly Rise's eyes became yellow again and her frown reappeared, "Duh."
Chie then slapped Rise in the face.
Rise took a couple of steps back while she placed her right hand on the part of her face that Chie had just slapped. The former idol then shook her head before placing her hand on her forehead again.
"We have to find Yu-kun and Marie-chan and get the fuck out of here!", Chie turned around to see if their friends were right behind them or not.
"Sounds like a plan.", Rise muttered in agreement as her head still felt a little fuzzy. Rise then looked to the floor to see where she dropped her jacket and kicked her shoes only to find that she couldn't find them.
"Chie-chan?", Chie turned around when she heard Rise call out her name.
"Yeah?"
"Where are my shoes and jacket?", Chie looked a little surprised at the question and looked down at the floor, "You took your jacket off right…where is your jacket?", Chie looked at where she thought Rise's jacket was only to find that it wasn't there anymore. She couldn't find her shoes anywhere.
"Okay… this place is now freaking me out.", Chie grabbed Rise's wrist and began to lead her down the hallway.
"It wasn't already?", Rise asked facetiously while rolling her eyes.
"This place is causing you to act like a crazy stripper and— ", Chie turned around and her eyes widened again when she saw that Rise was smiling and swaying her hips in rhythm with the music once more. Her eyes were still chestnut brown though.
"You know what?", Chie let go of Rise and reached into her pocket. The martial artist then took out a pair of wireless earbuds. "Use these." Chie then tossed the earbuds to Rise, "I think the music might be causing you to act like that."
Rise placed an earbud in one ear before placing doing the same to her other ear. The two girls just stood in the hallway for a few minutes waiting for something to happen.
"Can you still hear me and the music?", Chie asked.
"Yes, but the earbuds are making the music sound like a repeating beat and nothing else." Rise walked up to Chie and hugged her, "What would I do without you?"
Rise failed to notice Chie's eyes briefly flashing yellow as she removed her arms from her best friend with a smile on her face.
"Yeah, hehehe," Chie awkwardly chuckled as she and Rise began to walk down the hallway once again.
For the next several minutes, the two girls walked down what seemed like an endless hallway. It didn't look like they were getting closer to any sort of exit as there was no sign or hint anywhere on the floor, walls, or ceiling that gave the impression that they were getting close.
"Geez, we have to be getting close to something by now.", Chie said out loud as she and Rise continued walking.
"Well this place has to be magic, so I wouldn't be surprised if this place goes on forever and...", Rise stopped what she was saying as something caught her eyes in the distance.
"What? What are you looking at?", Chie looked down the hallway and she instantly figured out what it was.
Just about ten or so yards down the hallway was an opening on the left wall of the hallway.
"What is that?", Rise walked closer to get a better look.
Looks of joy appeared on Chie and Rise's faces as it became clear to the two girls that they were actually looking at a purple door that was on the wall.
"FINALLY!", Rise shouted as she ran over to the door and placed her right hand on the doorknob, "I hope this is the exit." Rise then turned the doorknob to the right before pulling the door open.
"Oh…", was all that Rise said as she stared at whatever was behind the door.
"Hey, what is it?", Chie walked over to Rise and looked behind her.
In front of the two girls was a room with the same purple carpet, the same walls with the purple curtains, and the same ceiling with the dimly lit lights. But, in the middle of the room was a flight of stairs that were going up.
"Okay, stairs might be good.", Chie said as she and Rise walked inside of the room and closed the door behind them.
"Think it'll lead to Yu-kun and Marie-chan?", Rise asked as she and Chie looked at the flight of stairs for a few seconds.
"One way to find out.", Chie walked over to the stairs and put her right foot and first step. The martial artist then turned around and reached her hand out to Rise with a grin on her face and her eyes closed, "C'mon, what's the worst that we can encounter?"
~~~Upstairs~~~
In the room where the staircase led to were four girls. But these girls weren't exactly what we would call normal because they were floating in midair and they all had rather strange appearances. Oddly enough the four were playing video games together on their Nintendo 3DSs.
"C'mon Cybele you can do better than this.", one of the girls said with a fanged grin.
