moon rising
A/N: This one took a couple days to write. And the next chapter is already written so I might put that one up later today or tomorrow.

Chapter Six
On the walk back to his own dorm room, Trent can't help the smile that makes it onto his face. When he reaches his room, he finds Conner still awake, sitting on his bed. "What are you smiling about?"
"Nothing." He lies.
"Where have you been?"
"What's with all the questions?" He takes off his shoes, walking over to the bathroom.
"Hey, you just kind of disappeared after class. I was starting to get worried."
"Awww!" Conner proceeds to throw a pillow in his direction. "Okay okay! I was just at the library."
He holds up the book Kira gave him, and Conner seems to accept that as he doesn't ask any further questions. He continues on into the bathroom, the smile returning to his face the second he closes the door.
Rain is pouring into the lounge through a broken window. It's dark, and if not for the moonlight he wouldn't be able to see anything. He's soaking wet for some reason. A tall figure stands before him, having backed him into a corner. The figure is a woman, but that's all he can make out. There's someone laying on the floor, who moves. The figure turns toward the person, walking over to them.
"Leave her alone!" He shouts through gritted teeth.
The person lifts their head up, revealing their face. Kira shouts, "Trent don't!"
The lounge goes completely dark, an animalistic growl filling the dark room. The woman screams, just as lightning flashes. There's a wolf attacking the woman, and appears to be winning. The lounge goes dark again.
"Trent!"
He wakes with a start, thunder clapping outside. He looks over, finding that Conner was still asleep. Getting up from his bed, he grabs his shoes, walking out of the room. Where exactly he's going, he doesn't know. Just that he had to go somewhere. He finds himself exactly where his dream had taken place, in the lounge. The lights are still on there, unlike in the hallways. And he's not alone.
"Kira?" She lifts her head, blinking rapidly as if she'd just snapped out of a trance.
"Trent? What are you doing awake?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
"You tell me, and I'll tell you."
He takes a seat next to her. "I couldn't sleep. I had a nightmare. I was here in the lounge, it was storming like tonight. Except it was hitting the school. A window was broken, so it was raining into the lounge. There was a woman, and she'd backed me into a corner."
"I was there, wasn't I?" She says, looking at her lap.
"Yeah. How did you know that?"
"Because I had the same dream. Except-" she trails off, still not looking at him.
"Except?" She shakes her head, and he tries to get a look at her face. From what he could see, it looked as if she was about to cry. "Um, why did you come here?"
He swears he sees her wipe a tear before she looks back up. She makes a face as if she was thinking. "Now that you mention it, I don't actually know."
"Me neither. But… I'm not complaining." He smiles, grabbing her hand. He leans in, pressing his lips to hers in a chaste kiss. "I would actually like to take you out again, if you want."
"I would like that."
"So does tomorrow night work?"
She makes a face. "Tomorrow's the full moon, Trent."
"Oh."
"Hey, it's gonna be okay. You'll be in a cellar, and in a cage."
For some reason, he didn't find that very comforting.
"What are we doing out here, Krista?"
"You didn't have to come out here with me, Kira."
"Then who would come to your rescue when you get into trouble?"
Krista makes a face, before seeing something over Kira's shoulder that makes her smirk. "How about those guys?"
Kira turns her head to see Trent and Conner walking just a few feet behind them. "What are they doing out here?"
"Why don't you go ask them? He is your boyfriend."
"He's not my boyfriend." She says, more out of instinct than anything else.
"You've kissed twice, and he's asked you out. If you're not dating, then what are you?"
"We haven't exactly put a label on it."
"Well, looks like you might get the chance to ask him. Because here he comes."
And sure enough, Trent comes up behind her, Conner not far behind him. "Hey, what are you girls doing out here?"
"Ask her." Kira gestures to Krista.
"You'll see." Krista says simply, before dragging Conner off by the ear. She turns her head, winking at her Kira. Fortunately, Trent doesn't seem to notice. They follow behind Krista and Conner, but they're walking much slower than their friends.
"So, um, how long have you and Krista been roommates?"
"Since first grade. As you know, I practice elemental magic. Well, fairies control the elements. The headmaster must've thought we'd be a good match because of that."
"You've been roommates since then, so he must have been right."
"He was. We've been best friends since." They bump into Krista and Conner, who have come to a stop.
"What are we looking at?" Conner asks.
Krista raises a hand as if to tell him to be quiet. She kneels down in the grass. "Something is coming. Something bad."
"I could've told you that, there's a full moon tonight." Conner says in a 'like duh' voice.
"I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about something much worse."
"I hope you're not talking about me." A voice says, catching them all off guard. Someone jumps down from a tree, their arms crossed over her chest.
"What do you want, Lorelei?" Krista gets back onto her feet.
"Me? I was just going for a walk in the woods."
"From a tree?"
Lorelei is suddenly standing right in front of her but she doesn't flinch. "Did I ask you, witch?"
Kira could've sworn Lorelei's necklace glowed, before she grabs it. She shakes her head, "you know what I have better things to do than this."
Then she speeds off out of the woods. "What the hell was that about?"
"I don't know Conner. But she sure seemed… off for lack of a better term." If she didn't know any better, she almost seemed scared when her necklace glowed. If it did glow that is.
"Kira?" Trent taps her shoulder, and she shakes her head.
"Sorry. What were you saying Krista?"
"I was saying something bad is coming. I can sense it. And whatever it is, it has something to do with dark magic." Just as she says that, thunder claps over their head. Rain begins to pour from outside the portal.
"You just had to mention dark magic." Kira deadpans.
