When the song ended Kim just stared at Bonnie. "What?" Bonnie asked.
"You have a great voice. I never knew." "No one does. I used to sing at church but I haven't been in ages and what with cheer and student council I don't have the time for choir so I just sing here sometimes."
Kim looked at Bonnie in a different way. Not weird. Just different. "Okay do I have something on my face?" "I see you Bonnie. The real you," Kim said.
"How do you mean?" Bonnie asked as she went to turn off her speakers. "I just mean I always thought you were a stone cold bitch but it turns out you have a soul."
Bonnie threw her hair brush at Kim. Kim dodged it with a laugh. "I just mean your sisters are complete bitches to you so in turn you are a bitch to everyone."
Bonnie observed Kim for a minute.
"I have a different theory," Bonnie said. "Which is?" Kim asked. "Maybe I am nice to everyone but you and your goofy sidekick because I dislike you both," Bonnie said, sitting next to Kim.
Kim frowned. She opened her mouth to speak when a growling sound interrupted her.
"Was that your stomach?" She asked Bonnie. "No it came from my ass, " Bonnie sarcastically retorted. The two burst out into laughter.
This was the first time Kim had ever witnessed Bonnie laughing. It was such a beautiful sound. Kim now knew she wanted to hear Bonnie laugh more often.
"Maybe we should order a pizza," Bonnie said after they stopped laughing. "You mean I get to stay?" Kim asked. "Shut up," Bonnie said, trying to hide a small smile.
•••••••••
The girls had eaten three slices of pizza each and had two cups of soda. They now lied side by side on Bonnie's bed, staring up at the ceiling.
Bonnie belched, disrupting the silence. Bonnie gasped then laughed, followed by Kim. Seconds after, Kim released her own belch, one a bit louder than Bonnie's.
The two girls laughed again.
"So I hear you're thinking about asking Josh out," Bonnie said. Kim turned to face Bonnie who was propped up on her elbows. "Who told you that?" Kim asked.
"People talk K," was all Bonnie said. "So are you?" Kim shrugged. "Why?"
"Just curious," Bonnie said.
"So what are you gonna do about Brick?" "Nothing. Move on. He cheated I can never trust him again. Plus I already told Tara we're done so we're done."
"I know you loved him so I'm sorry he hurt you," Kim said with a certain softness the brunette had never heard. At least not directed towards her. All this was too much caring and emotion for her. It was making her uncomfortable.
"Okay okay enough mushy stuff," Bonnie said.
"Can I ask you a question?" Bonnie asked.
"Shoot," Kim said.
"Why did you help me yesterday after I was such a bitch to you?"
Kim shrugged. "Well I've never seen you cry before so I figured it had to be something bad so I figured I'd at least try to help. It must have been the teen heroine in me. Plus Mr. Barkin was gonna have your ass if you didn't come back."
Bonnie chuckled. Bonnie's phone vibrated. She shifted from her position next to Kim. She checked her messages. Her mom was gonna be home in a few.
"You should probably go. My mom's gonna be home within the hour and as you've already heard I'm grounded."
"Oh yeah. What'd you get grounded for anyways?" Kim asked as she gathered her stuff.
"I'm not sure actually but she's my mom. Does she need a reason?"
"Good point," Kim said. Bonnie walked Kim to the door.
"Bonnie? Was what your sister said earlier true? About you not being able to stand me?"
"Kim I-" "Please just tell me the truth."
Bonnie sighed then nodded. "It was true. I hated you." For some reason, hearing Bonnie say those words hurt Kim. "But, I don't hate you anymore."
Kim perked up at that. "So you like me now huh?" Kim asked, teasingly. "I never said I like you. I said I don't hate you. There's a big difference," Bonnie said.
Kim rolled her eyes and turned to leave when Bonnie called her back. Kim turned back to Bonnie who threw her arms around her. Kim was taken aback and remained still for a moment before wrapping her arms around the brunette. Kim took in Bonnie's scent. Vanilla and cinnamon. Perfectly Bonnie.
After a few more seconds both teens pulled away.
Bonnie stood by the door and watched Kim drive away. "So is she your little girlfriend now?" Lonnie asked, making Bonnie jump a bit.
"No! Of course not and why do you care?"
"I don't. I just thought I sensed some sexual energy emanating from the atmosphere."
Bonnie smirked. "Connie teaching you big words again?"
Lonnie growled and walked away.
•••••••••
Bonnie was polishing her nails when her phone rang. It was a facetime call. Tara was calling. Bonnie answered.
"Hey!" Tara said cheerily. "What's up?" Bonnie asked. "So I notice you and Kim are getting close. Passing notes and all."
"Are you jealous?" Bonnie asked in a teasing tone. "What?! No! I know I'm your best friend and you'd never replace me," Tara said.
"Well I don't know. Kim is pretty cool now that I'm getting to know her," Bonnie said.
Tara gasped. "You think Kim's fun? Okay who are you and what have you done with Bonnie? You hate Kim."
Bonnie cringed slightly. Hate was such an ugly word. "Well I don't hate her anymore. Besides I thought you and the rest of the squad were sick of us being at each other's throats."
"We are. I'm glad you and Kim are making nice. You two actually have a lot in common. You just have to get along to realize it."
"Well we are. Sort of," Bomnie said. "Well I'm glad," Tara said with a smile.
"Me too," Bonnie said, surprising herself.
