Despite being incredibly tired the next morning, Kimberly woke up in the best mood she had been in a long time. Yes BJ had had a terrible night's sleep which in turn had left her mother up with her all night and exhausted the next day but it wasn't the first time the young mom had had a sleepless night. It was par for the course. It was worse when she was doing it on her own. At least now she had Tommy…
Tommy! After yesterday she just knew she had her Tommy back. The way he'd kissed her and held her face. And the way those gorgeous dark eyes had stared into hers. He'd even told her he loved her. She had been waiting for that moment longer than she would admit. But it had happened, finally.
She had her powers back. And her boyfriend back. They had a beautiful daughter together. They were living together like a real family. What could possibly go wrong? Those were certainly famous last words.
Hopping down the stairs and into the kitchen, Kim found Tommy seated at the breakfast table finishing a yogurt while Bianca munched happily on little pieces of a banana her father had sliced up for her. Obviously the young dad had swooped in and got their little girl ready for the morning, while her mom was in the shower.
They really worked so well together. But then again they always had. The pair were a team within the team. And now with a child to raise that bond was only getting stronger.
Since the White Ranger was seated, his pink costumed counterpart was able to more easily drop a kiss on his cheek as she walked him toward the refrigerator to find the milk, "Morning," She greeted the boy with a cheery, sunny disposition that was very much a trademark of the old Kimberly.
"Good morning, beautiful," Replied the handsome teen, as he pulled his chair in a bit to let her by him. Tommy hadn't seen her smile that way since she had returned to Angel Grove and watching it now lifted his own heart. She had come back to town with the weight of the world on her shoulders, but now it seemed to have lifted and brought back the bubbly girl he'd fallen for years ago.
After grabbing the milk and setting it on the counter, Kimberly opened up the cupboard door to get down some cereal. However the box had been pushed back a bit away from the edge, and the tiny teen could only just graze it with her finger tips. Cursing her small statured she sighed and was just about to turn around and pull over a chair to stand on, when Tommy got up and stepped in close behind her.
His tall shadow fell over Kimberly, as Tommy's muscular front pressed against her back. Kim's head falling just against his chest as she leaned back into him just a little. As both of their arms extended toward the cereal the back of Kim's fingers brushed against Tommy's palm, causing his own fingers to curl forward around the tip of hers and squeeze them affectionately.
It felt so good to Tommy to be able to touch her again, to stand so close and smell the sweet scent of the honey shampoo she'd always used. She was just so soft and tiny, having her that close was the most comfortable feeling. But he was still a teenage boy, which meant he couldn't leave well enough alone. Instead of handing down the box to the petite Pink Ranger, the team leader took a step back and held it high above Kimberly's head with a teasing grin.
"Hey, no fair," Giggled the short little brunette, crinkling her nose up cutely as she tried to reach her breakfast, while her daughter's father brandished it over head like a prize. She was close to kicking him in the shin out of sheer indignation when the boy, laughing at his own hilarity, handed her the box with a kiss to the temple.
That was also however the exact moment Tommy's mom appeared in the kitchen. Pressing her lips together into a straight line it was clear the older woman was trying to suppress a smile as she slipped past the two teens and made her way to the coffee pot, "Don't mind me, carry on," She stated in a pleasant tone and was about to head out of the room with her mug, when her son stopped her.
"It's fine mom, sit, drink your coffee," Like the son that every mother wanted, Tommy pulled out his mother chair and helped her into it, "Kim's just going to have some breakfast before we head to school."
Mrs. Oliver was no idiot. She knew what she had seen when she entered the kitchen. Her son and his former flame had definitely been flirting. And she was pretty positive she also caught Tommy giving Kimberly a peck. But if the two teens wanted to play things cagey she would let it go… For now.
There was obviously something going on there, whether they were going to admit it. All through Kim finishing her cereal the teens kept giving one another sideways glances. And Tommy had this weird grin on his face that she hadn't seen on her son in a long time. Since Kimblery had left for Florida in fact. And she was going to ask as soon as the opportunity arrived.
Which it did a few short minutes later, when Kim cleared her bowl into the dishwasher and ran back up to her room to fetch her backpack. As Tommy got up to dampen a paper towel and wipe the mashed banana and cheerios that Bianca had stuck all over her face and hands, his mother cornered him "There's something between you and Kimberly," She said with an inflection that was more than curious.
"There's always been something between me and Kim, Mom," Responded the young man as he wrung out the moist paper towel and then shook it out. Though he was being a bit cagey he knew his mom wouldn't fall for it. She knew him far too well.
Inclining her head Misses Oliver arched her brows at her son, "You know what I mean, Thomas," said the woman, tapping her fingernails on the side of her coffee cup. Much like her only child, Misses O was rather stubborn when she got something in her head. She wouldn't be swayed off the topic just by Tommy's teasing, "Are you two back together?"
Tommy had known the question was coming, his mother never missed a thing. He'd just hoped he'd be able to put off having to answer it for a few days. Especially as it was still new. The two teens had only admitted their feelings for one another the day before. They hadn't really talked out where their relationship was headed. All Tommy knew was that Kimberly Hart had his heart, and always had, "We're working on it… It looks like we're going to be," The boy answered as he wiped up the stinky fruit mush that covered his daughter's little face.
"And how did Katherine take it?"
When Tommy didn't reply but rather offered a small sigh as his handsome features clouded over, his mother caught on very quickly, "You haven't told her…" That was very much not like her son. The boy she raised was honest to a fault and incredibly loyal. She had to admit she was a bit disappointed in the situation, now that he was working toward reuniting with Kimberly, but more so that he wasn't being honest with Kat about it, "Now you know, I love, Kim. I always have. She brought you out of your shell when we first moved here and I will always be grateful to her for that. But honey, a relationship that isn't built on honesty doesn't have a solid foundation. You need to figure things out with Katherine, before you can start things up again with, Kim. That isn't fair to either girl."
Before Tommy could reply to his mother, they heard the sound of Kimberly hopping down the stairs, her bookbag over her shoulder and wearing a deep green hoodie that practically swallowed her up. It went down to her knees, and she had the arms rolled several times to keep them from slipping completely over her hands. It was pretty cute actually.
"Is that my sweatshirt," Asked Tommy, giving her a lopsided little grin. He knew it was, or at least it had been. The last time he had seen that hoodie, Kim had been wearing it then too. Wrapped up in it as she had walked away from him to board her flight to Miami. And he had to admit she looked alot better in it coming toward him, than walking away.
Smirking back in reply, Kimberly shrugged, "What this old thing," giggling quietly, the young woman proceeded to free their daughter for her high chair, before carrying her out to the car. Leaving Tommy staring after her. Man he loved that girl.
*Author's notes: Sorry this is just a bit of a short filler chapter. But I haven't forgotten about you all. So I have a plan for Tommy and Kimberly and how they can officially get back together. It will of course contain some obstacles, mainly Kat. The question is, do you, the readers, want to see it as a third book in this series or would like me to continue it here?*
