I always wondered what was on the minds of Goku and Chi-Chi the moment they saw each other after so long. With no possible answer, I decided to ponder and now I have this short one-shot. Goku loves his friends and family, but I noticed that he is not really one for huge gatherings unless food is used for leverage. I also can't process how it must feel to know that my time back with my loved ones would be back for a short time.

DBPrompt 1: "I missed you… a lot."

Goku sheepishly rubbed the back of his head as he tried to process watching 'Our Savior Mr. Satan'. These tournaments sure are different these days, he thought to himself as he let out a nervous laugh. His brief time back had been nothing short of strange. Mr. Satan became a mega superstar from his lie, Krillin was married to the android girl that tried to kill him, and his son was some sort of superhero that liked to play dress up.

Goku stopped wandering around as he found a weathered bench to rest at. He missed all his loved ones, but he just needed a moment to breathe. This was the most overwhelming experience of his life. Too many familiar faces looked to him at once. He could not tell if their expressions were of joy or sorrow. He thought returning home would make him feel like a hero; a hero from those old traditional stories you tell children before they get to know the world. Instead, he felt full of guilt. The feeling wrapped around his throat making it hard for him to say the words he needed to say- especially to her.

She was everything to him. His friends made him feel like a legend, but around her he always felt so small. Every time he looked into her eyes, his ki would heat his entire body and his thoughts would vanish into nothing. It set his soul on fire.

Goku had many years to ponder on what it would be like to see his wife again. He would spend days in Other World creating a narrative on how she would jump into his arms, cry out his name, and he would hold her in a deep embrace. He even would let her kiss him in front of everyone if that is what she wanted. Sadly, reality did not meet his expectations.

When his eyes met hers, he sensed an emptiness inside of her. Did he even have the right to complain? It was him that blasted a hole through her heart. They took vowels so long ago that tied them together until death do they part. His heart sank knowing that he passed away and she still held on to him for all these years. He thought she would have moved on by now but she still chose to stand beside him in his absence. Why?

He looked through the busy crowd and took a moment to people watch. Torment goers fluttered around as they took the time to grab snacks and souvenirs before the fighting started. He smiled at the young happy couples that walked by hand and hand.

"That was us once," a soft voice startled him as they took the empty set on the bench. Goku felt his chest drop as his wife placed her small hand over his. He looked over to her and smiled. She was still as beautiful as he remembered. Her soft eyes framed her balanced face and her skin still had glow of youth to it.

"Yeah, that was so long ago, wow," Goku said softly.

"I'm glad you are here today, Goku. Goten was so happy to meet his daddy."

Goku nodded as he watched her face drop. He inhaled a shallow breath as he tried to find the right things to say. What can say to your wife that you left to be a widow with two kids for seven years when you had the chance to be revived? "I missed you… a lot." His words were firm. He leaned into her, pulling her into a side embrace.

"I missed you too. Tell me something Goku."

"What's that?"

"Did you not want to be wished back because of me?"

Goku pulled her in closer, wrapping both of his strong arms around her. He felt her soft body sink into his embrace. Placing his his chin above her head, he spoke in a low firm tone. "Chi, you really think that? Man, I if I could go back I would have returned, but me staying gone just meant you and Gohan could live in peace."

Chi-Chi swallowed hard to suppress the tears from rolling down her face. Why did she even ask? Nothing was shocking about his answer. Though she did not agree with his beliefs, she respected his decision. Even though Goku was a man of virtue, he was a magnet for chaos. "I wish I could have peace and happiness. Life has been so lonely without you."

"Calling all fighters, please report to the changing room," the accouner's voice boomed through the speakers. Goku lamented his participation in the event. He wished he would have decided to watch on but he could never shake his desire to fight. Plus, if he won he could leave some money behind to support his family.

"You should probably go," Chi-Chi hinted.

"I think I can get away with hiding out here a bit longer," Goku vented as he pulled her closer. He normally was not fond of showing public displays of affection, but he didn't know if this would be the last time he go to hold her.

The world went mute around the couple as they held on to each other. Not a word was uttered as they relaxed into their caress. For seven years, they waited for the chance to be reunited. They both didn't want to be the first to let go.
