After a few weeks, since they moved, the gang was doing well around here. Arthur himself was now wearing his gunslinger jacket, blue shirt, brown work pants, and his regular boots, his hair is thick and so does his beard but Arthur shaved it entirely before eating breakfast. He spent 30 minutes chopping some wood, moving the sacks to Pearson's wagon, feeding the horses, Arthur decided to take a break, he sat down on the bed in his tent and figure out what to do next to kill some time.
Earlier, Hosea told him that Bill, Javier, and Charles are already at the saloon at Valentine, Reverend Swanson was somewhere at a train station just not too far from here, and Strauss has some work for him as well, figured it had something to do with debts. After 10 minutes of resting, Arthur stood up went to where his horse was hitched up, he was planning to get himself a new steed. But plans changed when he saw Uncle sleeping by the rock.
This lazy old fool, Arthur thought.
Arthur walks up to him and kicks him to wake him up, startling him awake.
"Careful not to work yourself to death there, Uncle," Arthur told him sarcastically.
"I was thinking," Uncle denied as he quickly stood up.
"Does it pay well?" Arthur asked him.
"Eventually," Uncle replied.
Arthur put a hand on his shoulder and walk with him. "So, while the rest of us are busy stealing, killing, lying, fighting to try and survive, you get to think all day."
"It's a strange world we live in, Arthur Morgan," Uncle told him as they stopped walking.
"Do you wanna head into town, see if we can find anything out?" Arthur asked him.
"Sure," Uncle agreed, "I got some errands to run."
That's what I thought, Arthur thought. "Great... go check the horses are ready."
As Uncle went to the horses, Karen starts talking to him with Mary-Beth and Tilly on her side.
"If you're gonna take the old man into town, could you take us, too?" Karen asked them.
"Why? What you got planned?" Arthur asked them as they walk over to him.
"Nothing," Karen replied. "we'll find something for ya'll to do, we always do."
"We're bored out of our minds," Mary-Beth added. "Been cooped up here for two weeks now. Karen's about ready to murder Grimshaw.
"Well, can Miss Grimshaw spare you?" Arthur asked them.
""Can Miss Grimshaw spare you?" Karen repeated. "What's happened to you, Arthur? Three young healthy women want you to take 'em robbing, you're worried about house chores. Let's go!"
And besides, how could Arthur say now to the ladies? "Fair enough, you got me," Arthur agreed. "Come on then."
The girls cheered in victory as they all hop on the wagon with Arthur taking the reigns.
"Alright, out through the trees here, then take a left," Uncle guide Arthur.
As Arthur go through the trees and then turn left up the hill, the girls started to sing a song called, "I met a girl in Valentine," they continued making their way to Valentine as the girls sing.
"Go here, it's quicker," Uncle told him.
As they head towards Valentine, they notice a stagecoach losing control on their way.
"Look at that coach," Uncle pointed out "he's all over the place."
"Hey! Slow down!" The driver cried to the horses but the horses disconnect from the wagon causing the coach to stop, Arthur stopped the wagon when seeing the horses scurrying off.
"Is one of you gonna get that feller's horse?" Tilly asked them.
"Oh, I got Lumbago," Uncle denied. "It's very serious."
Arthur rolls his eyes, every time they ask Uncle to do something, he always uses his so-called lumbago as an excuse not to work. So he decided to help the feller out.
"Alright, I'll see what's going on," Arthur said as he hops off the wagon, "Lumbago, really... " he muttered.
He walks over to the driver with the disconnect coach. "You alright there, friend?" Arthur asked him.
The driver turn and noticed Arthur behind him. "Oh hey, you couldn't help me get my other horse back from over there, could you?"
"Sure, no problem," Arthur agreed.
"Thanks, mister. It's the white one over here." He gestured the white shire horse.
Arthur goes across the train tracks and to the white Shire, the horse is freaking out but it didn't take long for Arthur to calm her down, she's calm, Arthur led her back to the driver.
"Here you go," Arthur said, giving him back the white shire horse.
"You're really a gentleman, sir, a gentleman!" The driver said thankfully.
"No, not really," Arthur denied. "I was just... trying to impress the women."
"Well, anyway, thank you," The driver told him as he fixes up his coach and Arthur gets back on the wagon.
"C'mon, let's go!" Uncle urged him.
"To Valentine!' Karen added
Arthur gives the horses a little bit of whip using the reigns, telling them to move. They can clearly see the small ahead of them once the train moves.
"You're turning into a regular old fairy godmother, Arthur," Uncle told him.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Arthur asked him.
"It means you've got a heart," Mary-Beth answered to him. "A small one perhaps, hidden deep inside, but a real one," she turned to Uncle. "and you haven't you repulsive old lizard.
"Lizards have hearts!" Uncle protested.
"Well, Arthur, I'm proud of you," Tilly told him as they go across the train tracks and into town.
"To be honest," Arthur replied. "if you lot hadn't been here... I probably woulda robbed him."
"Well, you didn't! Mary-Beth told him.
As they went through town, they see townfolk, walking around, buildings, animals, you name it. The road was muddy as well, but a muddy road is also their thing.
"Smell those sheep," Tilly said.
"Or is that Uncle?" Karen joked.
"Very funny," Uncle replied as they were in the busy main street of Valentine.
"This looks like a decent little town," Mary-Beth commented, and then sees all the snow on the mountains from afar. "Look at all that snow on the mountains. Sure don't want to be back up there."
"You think we should've asked Molly to come with us?" Tilly asked them.
"Oh no, Miss O'Shea is far too high and mighty now for the likes of us," Karen protested. "or to do any real work. She's a society lady now."
So then, Arthur turned left into the main street, there, they can see busy people, gunsmiths, saloons, hotels, and the Stable just at the far end.
"Sheriff's office on the right," Uncle told him, gesture to the sheriff's place. "Sure you can pick up some bounties there, Arthur."
"Heaven forbid you put your head on the line," Arthur told him bluntly.
"That's a young man's game," Uncle replied.
So then, they stopped near the Stables and everyone gets off the wagon. And it's about time to look into some leads around this place
"Alright!" Uncle said. "Here we are, just like I said. The cultural center of civilization. Man at his finest."
"Uncle, what're we doing?" Arthur asked him, annoyed.
"Well," Uncle explained. "we're gonna do what any self-respecting maniac does... put the women to work."
"With pleasure," Karen agreed. "we'll start at the saloon."
"Okay," Arthur replied. "Just stay outta trouble and don't get yourselves noticed."
"Right, I-I need to get something from the stores," Uncle said.
"Okay, well we'll see you at the general store when you're done," Arthur told the girls.
"Come on ladies," Karen told them as they walk to the saloon. "Imagine we're in Paris."
As the ladies went inside the saloon, Arthur followed Uncle to the general store. He was talking with Uncle.
"So that's how you see yourself, is it?" Arthur asked him. "A maniac?"
"Well, in my youth," Uncle told him. "I used to be known as the "one-shot kid," he let out a chuckle as well.
"Okay," Arthur replied, not believing his backstory. "I'm not gonna ask why."
So the two went inside the General store, they buy a few things in there, cigars, coffee, and whiskey. And Arthur went outside, taking a seat on the bench, then later, Uncle came out of the store handing him a bottle of whiskey.
"Here's to your good health, my sir," Uncle offered him a whiskey.
Arthur accepts the whiskey and drinks it as Uncle sits next to him. After drinking, Arthur decided to take a nap for a little while.
After a while, Arthur wakes up as Mary-Beth walks to them, they both noticed her coming. She must have some good information.
"Gentlemen," Mary-Beth whispered to them. "I think I've got something good. I snuck into this fancy house, and acted like a servant girl, usually works. Someone was saying her sister was taking a trip, from New York or someplace. A train full of rich tourists, heading to Saint-Denis and then cruising off to Brazil."
"Okay," Arthur nodded.
"A train laden with baggage and passing through a bit of deserted country at night, as to get to the docks in time for the tides, in someplace called Scarlett Meadows.
"Yeah," Uncle added. "I know it... yeah, yeah, it's right out near New Hanover. Right, it's real quiet out there."
"Sounds good," Arthur agreed and then noticed that Tilly and Karen were not around. "Where's Tilly and Karen?"
"I think at the hotel," Mary-Beth answered. "they were picking up some drunken fellers that they was gonna rob."
"Why?" He asked.
"They have been gone for quite a while," she answered.
Arthur can sense they might be in danger, so he stood up and find the girls. He found Tilly by the right side of the bank, being cornered by another colored man, he threatened him to let her go, making him leave but not before threatening Tilly that she's making a big mistake, he wanted to know more of what's going on but he does know that Karen was in the hotel and she might be in trouble, he barged into the hotel, ignoring the owner's questions as he quickly scales upstairs, he heard screaming, that was Karen's voice! So he followed to where the screams came from and came across to a room, he heard a guy yelling at Karen, so Arthur kicks down the door open to find Karen being knocked over by the drunk fool
"Who are you?!" The drunk demanded.
"A friend of hers," Arthur replied venomously.
"Back off, buddy! I paid!" The drunk yelled at him.
"Ain't paid to hit her, you goddamn animal..."
It didn't take long for Arthur to knock him out in a few seconds. When he's dealt with, the two of them exit the room and Karen tells him about the bank in this town, what the drunk bragged about is the livestock bank that carries a lot of cash than they can imagine.
When they regroup, a man on a black horse arrives and he seems to recognize Arthur, this will become a problem if Arthur didn't do something about it. So he quickly chased down the man from Blackwater, "borrowing" someone's horse and chase him down out of town. The chase continues through town and into the cliffs, the horse immediately stops and drops him off into the cliff but he quickly held on just in time.
Arthur dismounts the horse and walks over the scared man, holding on to the edge for his life. Arthur would want to kill him but he decided to negotiate with him first.
"Why are you telling lies about me?" Arthur asked him.
"No wait, please!" The man begged. "I got it all wrong!"
Arthur leaned a bit forward to the man, "I ain't never been in Blackwater," he told him menacingly.
"Then why are you chasing me?!" The man demanded.
"I have an unfortunate face," Arthur replied.
"Yes, yes, me too. Me too!" The man cried, he was about to lose his grip. "Just help me up! Please!"
So Arthur decided to help him up, he grabbed his hand and lift him up on the edge. When he is finally safe, the two got into a little bit of talking. Turns out, the man's name is Jimmy Brooks, he recognizes Arthur from Blackwater and since he saved his life, he decided not to say a word to the Law and instead, give him a pen. Which is worth $10. When they go on their separate ways, Arthur decided it's about time he plans on getting himself a new horse, but not before returning the horse to its owner he borrowed from.
Again, sorry for skipping some of the conversations and dragging along some of these moments in the game, because I have limits, I can't always go into full detail all the time. I hope all of you understand all of that.
