It was another boring day. 21 years ago portals opened across the world. People started awakening abilities. All around the world people started being able to create fire from nothing, control barriers, heal others, move objects with their minds, summon creatures, and teleport around an area.

I was not so lucky, sadly… I live alone in Nashville. I'm 19 years old. I don't go to school and I just lost my job. I was thinking about becoming an F-Rank hunter and fighting in the gates for some money. I was strong enough to kill the weakest of creatures but I don't know if I could get any stronger.
I was waking up when I noticed something strange.

What? I got out of bed. I looked at the screen in front of me and got dressed. I have a system? I've heard of this actually! It has only happened twice before! They were legends! They became the strongest ever! I can't let people know. If people know stronger people could come after me.
I need to apply and become a hunter! I thought of a dagger in my hand and I was surprised when an actual dagger appeared. I felt the weight. I touched it with both hands. After a second it disappeared. I lost focus.
I had on sports clothes and went outside of my apartment with a smile. Everything just changed in under a few minutes. I took a bus to the hunter guild. When I got there I went inside and went to the front desk. I was given a clipboard with papers on it. I filled out the necessary info and that I did have magic but it wasn't necessary to tell what magic I had.
After waiting for nearly an hour I was called into a room. I put my hand on an orb and after a few seconds I was told to leave. I sat down in the waiting room. After nearly 10 minutes a woman came out with a card that confirmed I was an American F-Rank hunter. I smiled as I put it in my wallet and left. I was also directed to download an app on my phone.
It was a hunters app that allowed us to know all the gates around us and can form teams to fight them. I had F-Rank clearance so it showed me all the F-Rank gates. To get into a higher rank I would need to enter a party with a higher ranked hunter.
I spent 20 minutes looking at gates and found one. It was a solo F-Rank. It means that there is a gate leading to a singular room with around 5-15 creatures. I saw that it was recorded as around 8 kobolds. Weaker than goblins but smarter.
I requested it and after 30 minutes it was confirmed I could have it. I smiled as I took another 20 minutes to get there. When I arrived it was about 10. I saw a few professional workers making sure nobody entered. I flashed the confirmation code that I got to enter and was allowed in. I stood in front of the gate. It was about 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It was a beautiful blue color. I walked through it crouching to enter.
When I entered it was a large cave about 20 feet wide and 30 feet tall with a curved roof. I noticed 9 kobolds. I wasn't fully ready for this. I frowned thinking about how I rushed into this. I bought two knives into existence. When the kobolds noticed me I stabbed both into the neck of a kobold. I let go of the knives and threw up at the blood smell. I crawled and ran away from kobolds trying to rush me.
I looked at the other 8. They freaked out that I killed one. When one charged at me I brought a spear into existence and let the kobold pierce itself. The spear disappeared as I made a shield to protect myself. A normal sword appeared in my hand and I stabbed the kobold attacking my shield. I felt sick as my weapons disappeared while I started breathing heavily.
I turned and had two pistols. I opened fire on the remaining kobolds. It was much harder than the moves showed since I couldn't hit anything. I felt a headache hit as I killed two more kobolds. I dropped the pistols and charged at the others. I made a shield and knocked one on its ass. I made a shotgun and shot it. I was surprised by the kick back as it disappeared. There were 3 left.
I thought for a second. Could I do anything with my illusions? I had my hand pointed at one and thought of a flying ball of fire. I was surprised as an actual ball of fire launched forward hitting a kobold burning it. When the fire disappeared the burns stayed. I smiled.
A spark danced in my left hand. I let it out as it jumped across the three kobolds. It killed the burned one and the one it hit after it. It severely injured the last one it hit. I walked up to the last kobold and raised my right hand. A sword appeared above the last kobold and fell stabbing the kobold through its heart.
I threw up at all the dead kobolds. Better to get it over with now anyways. I brought my hand up and wiped blood away from my nose. I was low on mana. I looked around the cave and saw a bunch of crystals. I would get 15% of the money from the crystals so maybe around $200 just from the crystals and another $300 from the gate. It was so cool.

I got stronger and learned more magic! A win-win to me. I smiled as I left the gate and saw the guards. The portal seemed to ripple and was a lighter blue showing it was about to close. The guards and a few miners went into the gate after I came out. They came out with a bunch of crystals and were going back and forth.
"So when do I get paid?" I asked a guard. He looked at me.
"The money from the gate will be transferred to your hunter account within 10 minutes. Your hunter card also works as a credit card and in about 2 hours the money from the crystals will enter your account. Have a good day." The guard entered the gate. I left and got onto the hunters app.
After about 15 minutes it showed that I had $300. I looked for more gates. I found another solo gate. It had about 6 goblins. I requested it. After another 20 minutes I was confirmed I had it. When I got there it was about the same situation, just less guards. I entered the dungeon and looked at the giant cave. I noticed 6 goblins like the report said.
I let sparks form on my left hand as a shield about 3 feet wide and 7 feet tall formed on my right arm. I couldn't move it but it was a good defense. I peeked around the shield and fired the lightning killing one of the goblins. I made a pistol and started shooting. They started charging me. I killed two more when they all attacked my shield. I smiled as it disappeared. I was holding two daggers. I stabbed the same goblin in the chest. I made two more stabs at its neck, killing it.
I made a gauntlet with wolverine claws and stopped an attack from a goblins short sword. I made another one and stabbed it through its head. I turned to the last one. I took a deep breath. I gathered fire magic and illusion magic. I used fire magic to make fire and used illusion magic to control its movements making it more concentrated as it burned through the last goblin.
"Fire Dragon's Roar!" I laughed as I made a new move. I should make more special moves! I would be so cool! I was laughing. I wasn't invincible but I could become extremely strong thanks to this system and my magic.

I should start working out to get stronger. When I left the gate I waited and checked my account. I smiled seeing it at $500. Once the crystals go through I'll have a lot more. It was weird to think that you can make so much money from gates. More people would be hunters if not so dangerous.
I went home after getting some food. When I got home I sat on my couch and turned the tv on. I started watching an interview with an American National rank hunter. It was Lisa Turner. She was an extremely attractive woman. She had naturally white but slightly tanned skin, shoulder length brown hair and bright blue eyes. She was famous as The American Phoenix.
She had an amazing fire and wind magic skill with a small affinity to summoning magic, able to summon a half phoenix that boosts her healing factor and fire magic. There are currently 11 National ranked American hunters.
The American Phoenix, The True Soldier, Blue Beast, Dragon, Aristotle, The General, The Dark Samurai, Weather God, King of Fear, Thor, and Odin. They were the most powerful force in America. They all excelled massively in at least two things with Aristotle excelling in 5 schools of magic, two fighting abilities, and a special form of magic exclusive to him so far. The weakest was probably the King of Fear as even though he did excel in three schools of magic he still couldn't compare to the others.
I got onto the hunters app. I found a cool gate. It was an F-Rank goblin gate. I had a requirement of at least 12 people. It was already reserved by an F-Rank about to be E-Rank. He also had a party of 5 together just looking for another 7 people. They already had 4 people and just needed 3 more. I applied for it. After about 10 minutes the man confirmed and sent a message to meet them at 5:30. I agreed.
I watched tv till around 4:45 and left to get to the gate. When I got there I noticed the guards along with 11 people all in some form of armor. They looked at me when I arrived. I noticed a few looks at me like I was an idiot.
"Where's your gear newbie?" A man in knight armor asked me.
"Don't need any." He gave me a look.
"Whatever. If you die it's not our fault." He walked away. The man who reserved the gate came up to me.
"Damn. If I knew you were that big of a newbie I would never have let you come. Damn ok just stay in the back and protect the healers and mages. We have two mages, two healers, 4 shielders, and the others are all attackers so just don't die." I was annoyed at the man's attitude.
When we entered I noticed a long tunnel. I stood between both healers. They were both girls. One was about late 20's with long brown hair. She was tall and had on leather armor holding a staff. The other was late teens with long blonde hair and was only about 5 feet tall. I towered over most of them. I was 6'4 and lean.
The older healer had a look of disgust like it was a joke that someone like me could protect her. The younger girl seemed thankful. As we walked through the tunnel I let the others take care of everything since it seemed there wasn't any need for me. As we were walking I stopped and looked behind me. I guess it was my imagination.
I kept walking. After nearly 30 minutes we reached a large room with nothing in it. We killed a few goblins along the way but nothing yet.
"Where the hell is everything?" I turned around and caught an arrow about to hit the blonde healer.
A few more arrows came flying killing both mages and an attacker.
"Behind us!" The leader yelled as he charged. I started shooting with an AR. The people around me were surprised as another arrow came flying killing the brown haired healer. I stood in front of the blonde healer and had a riot shield up.
"Our leader is incompatent! We have been going in a circle the entire time so just stay behind me!" I yelled at the blonde as she stood behind me. I noticed nearly 30 goblins coming out the gateway… no Hobgoblins!
"FUCK! IT'S HOBGOBLINS!" One of the shielders yelled as a spear went through his neck.
Hobgoblins were high F-Rank and E-Rank creatures. Goblins were normally about 4 feet tall with little muscle while hobgoblins can be up to 6 feet tall packed full of muscles and even have IQs as high as 120. I watched as the group was killed. It was sad. Even though the group was strong it was by F-Rank standards not E-Rank like Hobgoblins usually are.
Within just 3 minutes it was me and the blonde haired healer along with 27 hobgoblins. Well… shit.
"Just… stay behind me." I made a shield that stays in the ground as I dug it into the ground in front of me. I walked around the shield and looked at the hobgoblins. I took a deep breath.
"Fire Dragon's Roar!" I released a stream of fire that burned through three hobgoblins. I was breathing heavily. 24 left. I smiled as a shotgun appeared in my hands. I shot the head through a hobgoblin's head. When the gun disappeared, so did I. Time to use my imagination. Another me appeared and started fighting. A spear went through him as he disappeared. A few more appeared attacking.
My clones were able to kill four more before they were all killed. 19 left. I came back from nowhere as I held a katana and cut the head off another hobgoblin. I punched forward with a wolverine claws appearing going through another hobgoblin. I was already running low on stamina.
I was about to be attacked when a bear ripped the head off the other hobgoblin. It started a fight with a few hobgoblins. I had electricity jumping around my throat. I took another deep breath.
"Lightning Dragon's Roar!" A few strands of lightning flew through two hobgoblins. I disappeared again. When I reappeared it was next to the blonde healer. The bear was killed and disappeared.
"Do you have anything to replenish my stamina? I feel tired. Also magic I am low already." She was shocked as her hands glowed green. I felt better. Then her hands glowed blue as my magic felt stronger again.
Alright then. I looked around and saw 9 left. I stood in front of the shield again. I looked at the remaining hobgoblins. I let out a breath before taking a huge breath. My chest expanded as I took in the air.
"Fire Dragon's Roar!" I made it look like I was a half dragon as I breathed out fire and killed four more hobgoblins. I was standing at over 8 feet tall now with muscles and scales. My red scales turned yellowish in a second.
"Thunder Spear!" In one of my claws was a large spear made of pure electricity as it went through two more hobgoblins. I went back to human as I stared at the last 3. I made an AK and started shooting. I killed two more as I dropped the gun letting it disappear. I started walking towards the last one. I was low on magic as I made a small tornado in my hand.
I threw it and let it expand under the hobgoblin. It grew and ripped the hobgoblin apart.
"Natural Disaster: Tornado." Nailed it. I smiled at my naming sense. I turned around and let the shield protecting the healer disappear.
"Come on." The girl had a look of amazement on her face.
"What's your name?" I looked at her and smiled.
"I'm Cassie Landon. You?"
"I'm Ivory Turner. This was my first gate." She seemed scared. I led her out of the gate. When we came out the guards questioned us and entered. Ivory gave me her number and thanked me before leaving. Since instead of getting $150 from the gate Ivory and I both got $900. When I got home I laid down on my bed and ordered a pizza.

I started doing pushups on the ground. After a little while I got up and started doing jumping jacks. After I stopped I got on my phone and ordered a treadmill. I started doing sit ups. Once I get a treadmill building my stamina will be much easier. I was happy when the pizza got here.
I ate the entire thing before working out a little more. After about another hour of working out I went to bed.
