NicoleR85: thanks!
After waking up relatively early, mother and daughter headed over to the Weasley's to use their floo network in order to get to Diagon Alley. Mariela's face was one of wonderment when she stepped onto the cobblestones. She'd heard of magical place where witches and wizards can go to shop but she had never been until now.
Mariela took in as much as she could as her mother led her down the street. She could see shops for Owls, books and even broomsticks! There were a few boys her age gathered around one of the windows, gawping over the broom on display. She barely caught a glimpse of it but it looked rather nice, though she wasn't exactly a broomstick expert. "Where are we going first?" the half-elf asked.
"Gringotts. Can't get anything without money", Tauriel replied, adjusting the heart shaped necklace around her neck. It was a gift from her husband, enchanted so that she appeared normal to anyone who saw her.
Mariela blinked at the wonky white building marked as Gringotts. "Its wonky", she stated and Tauriel chuckled.
"Yes. Yes it is", she confirmed.
Inside the bank, Mariela eyes the strange looking creatures working either side of the wide aisle she and her mother walked down "Mum…what are they?" she questioned.
"They're goblins. Not the friendliest of creatures though compared to the ones in Middle Earth, they're complete teddy bears", Tauriel explained. When they reached the large counter at the end of the aisle, she got the attention of the goblin working there. "My daughter would like to make a withdrawal", she told the goblin when he looked up.
"Name please?" the goblin enquired.
"Mariela Astraea", Tauriel replied.
"And does Miss Mariela Astraea have her key?" the goblin asked standing up to look down at the girl.
"I've got it", Tauriel answered, getting it out of her pocket, showing it to the goblin.
It was safe to say that Mariela hated the ride in the mine cart. She was sure that she was going to be sick several times through the twists and turns of the journey. The moment she was out of the bank, the girl sank down onto the steps, hand clutched tightly around the bag of coins that was in her vault. Her mother had explained that she and her father started a fund the moment they found out that they were expecting. She now had a nice little amount, enough for school and then some.
"Are you alright honey?" Tauriel asked, a little concerned for her. Her daughter was looking rather…green.
"No not really", Mariela admitted taking deep breaths to stop herself from emptying her stomach all over the cobblestones "could we just stay here for a moment?"
Tauriel nodded completely understanding. She waited patiently until Mariela said she felt fine enough to move on. They purchased her books from Flourish and Blotts, and her potions kit from the Apothecary.
"Would it be ok if I go get my robes on my own?" Mariela asked as they left the shop, both laden with packages.
"Of course", Tauriel replied "I've got an errand to run anyway. I'll meet you outside Ollivanders". Mariela nodded and left.
Harry walked up Diagon Alley Madam Malkins' to get his robes while Hagrid went off to get some of his other stuff. Ahead, a ginger haired girl had just exited the shop carrying a few packages in her arms. She began to walk up the cobblestone street towards him when someone came up behind and roughly bumped into her "Hey!" she exclaimed as all her packages tumbled out of her arms. Harry watched the blonde haired boy walk right past him not seeming to care that he'd made that girl drop her stuff. Harry went up to her as she started to gather up her packages and helped her pick them up. "Thank you", the girl said gratefully taking the packages from him. "Some people are just inconsiderate", she added looking up at Harry.
"Yeah. Some people are", Harry agreed. It was then he noticed the letter she was holding along with the packages "you're going to Hogwarts".
"Yeah I am. How did you know?" the girl asked standing up.
"Your letter. I've got one too", Harry replied standing up as well.
"Oh. You looking forward to your first year?" the girl asked shifting the packages in her arms.
"Definitely" Harry replied honestly. He didn't think he was going to get over the excitement of going to Hogwarts, a school where he actually belonged "You?"
"Absolutely!" the girl said happily "anyway I've got to go. My mother is waiting for me. It was nice to meet you".
"It was nice to meet you too", Harry said sincerely. He didn't want to get too ahead of himself but it seemed he might've met someone who could be a potential friend at Hogwarts. The girl smiled and walked away. It was only after she left that he realised that they hadn't exchanged names.
Ollivander got a surprise when his next customer walked in. He could see the striking resemblance between mother and daughter but there was also something else…subtle features belonging to the girl's father. And he remembered every wand he'd ever sold. "How may I help you?" he asked.
"I'm Tauriel Astraea and my daughter, Mariela, needs to buy wand for her first year at Hogwarts", Tauriel explained. Ollivander nodded and went into the back of his shop. A moment later he came back with a wand box. The wandmaker opened it and held out a wand. It was 12 inches in length with a silver vine like decoration wrapped around the handle. Tauriel noted how it shined a little brighter than normal silver.
"Is this…mithril?" she asked and Ollivander smiled.
"I thought you might recognise it. It came from the same place as you did", he said.
"How? How did you obtain it?" Tauriel questioned. While she'd came to accept the wizarding world as her home, she did wish that she could visit Middle Earth one last time.
"Let's just say you're not the only one from that world. But don't worry I won't tell anyone about you two", he assured them "your secret is safe with me".
"Thank you", Tauriel said, relieved. She was also disappointed that the wandmaker didn't disclose any more information on the other individual that arrived from Middle Earth like she did. However, she did wonder if it was the so called 'wizard' that she had tangled with prior to her trip to this world.
Mariela reached out for the wand. As soon as her hand closed around the handle she felt a rush of warmth. The half-elf knew that this was the wand for her. Ollivander smiled again. "I had a feeling it would be the one for you, Mariela", he remarked.
The 11 year old handed it back to him and he wrapped it up. The wandmaker told her the price and she handed over a few gold galleons. Ollivander gave the now wrapped wand box to Mariela and then she and Tauriel left the shop. "Now to Eeylops. There's something I'd like to show you", the ginger haired elf said.
"Ok, mum", Mariela agreed. She followed her mother to the shop where Tauriel showed her an owl that had feathers similar in colour to their hair.
"This tawny owl is yours", she told her.
"Really?" Mariela asked and Tauriel nodded "Hi buddy", she softly greeted to the owl and the bird hooted back.
