Now, I want to be very clear about this. While this is a new story pertaining to Pokémon, this is just something I want to experiment with. Something based on a dream I had, and I wanted to try and build on this, as I think it has some potential as a story. This will also be based on the chaos that a Randomizer function can bring to a regular game and its story, as well as trying to incorporate elements from later generations past Gen 4.

Enjoy!

It was a cold morning in the small town of Twinleaf. The snow was on the ground, frost formed on the leaves of trees and tree bark, and even a bit of frost was forming on the windows of several small houses as snowflakes fell from the sky. One of these houses belonged to a new resident of the town, who was currently resting in his bed.

This, is the hero of a story many would come to know as the Distortion Event... but to him, it was the start of something new, exciting, and dangerous.

"HEY! Wake up, ya slowpoke! I know it's cold out, but c'mon, that doesn't mean we can't go see what Pokémon we can catch!" A voice called out loudly.

The boy in bed jolted up, exhausted, alarmed and very unaware of what was going on. His hair was a deep dark brown, and was also very messy and wild. The dark facial hair on his face was well trimmed, but still scratchy. He was pale, but not pale enough to look sickly, just pale enough to look pasty. He had some sort of skull pattern on his PJs and grumbled as he got up and opened his eyes, his eyes shimmering like faded jades.

"COME ON! Get your clothes on and meet me out at Route 201, ya lazy doof! Last one there's gonna owe the winner 10 grand!" The voice called out again. The man looked out the window to see a guy wearing an orange and white striped shirt with a slightly popped collar, very stylized blonde hair, a green scarf and some basic jeans with a brown satchel hanging off his side.

"Arceus... is that today? I completely forgot... ugh, fine, I'm just gonna play along for now... Where's my winter gear, yo?" The man said, his tone of voice irritated and tired. He rummaged through a closet, tossing several old clothes, including what looked like a skull bandana and some more tropical clothing before finally settling on something he could wear. Coming up the stairs was an entity that seemed to walk on its hindlegs with its arms behind its back, eyes closed and seemed to be very weasel or mongoose-like with mostly brown fur and blonde tufts.

The man finally stepped into full view, his messy hair now tamed and combed a bit, a black sweater, a deep blue jacket and puffy insulated Jnco jeans with a backpack clad in reds, blacks, grays, whites, greens and blues with purple flowers being patterned over it. On his head was a white head band with a black Poké Ball symbol on it and orange earmuffs.

The entity shrugged and the man just sighed, tossing the earmuffs aside. "Yeah, you're right, Gumshoos, the earmuffs were overdoing it. Well, better go see what this guy wants." The man said, walking down the stairs as he pet the Gumshoos, causing a smile to form on its face as it scampered downstairs and hopped onto the sofa, curling up as it tried to go back to sleep.

The man walked out the front door and quickly walked towards the edge of the small town, leading off to Route 201, where he could see the blonde guy calling for him earlier waiting.

"You know I was asleep, right Barry? In my nice, warm home, until you decided to get me up at the crack of dawn to come out and watch the wild Pokémon do what exactly?" The man asked, still not fully awake yet.

"Isn't it obvious, Chanso? We're gonna catch a Pokémon the ol' fashioned way!" Barry said, smiling as he eyed one of the Pokémon in the tall snow covered grass.

"That's incredibly risky and really stupid... how do you plan on fighting one, let alone catching one? You know Poke Balls existed even back then, right? So what 'ol' fashioned way' are you talking about, yo?" Chanso questioned. Barry was about to step into the grass, until the sound of footsteps and crunching snow was heard behind them.

Chanso and Barry turned around and saw an old man in a dark brown lab coat with a puffy hood, a suitcase in hand, and a girl right beside them, wearing more appropriate winter attire with long blue hair.

"And might I inquire what you two were about to do just now?" The man asked sternly.

"Don't log me up with him, this was all Barry's idea, yo! I'm not the one runnin' this crazy little adventure show!" Chanso stated. Barry nudged Chanso in the side. "And I was gonna have you do the same thing, don't up and jump ship on me!" Barry interjected.

"You know stepping into the tall grass without a Pokémon is incredibly dangerous. And from the looks of it... maybe you two could benefit from having Pokémon of your own. Dawn, present the briefcase." The man said. The girl, named Dawn, nodded and took the briefcase out of the man's hands, undoing the locks on it and opening it up, to present three Poké Balls.

"Go on, take your pi-" The man was then interrupted as Barry cut in front and grabbed a ball for himself.

"Dibs on this one! In your face!" Barry stated, smugly smiling and pointing at Chanso as he rapidly grabbed one of the balls on the left. Chanso reached out and grabbed the Poké Ball in the middle.

"Ahh, I see that you, Chanso, have chosen the fire-type Pokémon, Chimchar. I guess for freezing weather like this, you chose well. As for you, Barry, looks like you chose the grass-type Pokémon, Turtwig. Well, everyone has a strategy." the man said. He handed the boys 5 empty Poké Balls each, and the two decide to battle it out.

With the superior knowledge on type advantages, and being lucky that Chimchar could take a few hits, ended up winning the battle and learning Ember. As Barry declares that one day he'll win a fight against Chanso, Chanso decides that maybe taking the gym challenge wouldn't be that bad, especially if it meant he could keep on getting stronger, especially after his last place of work up and disbanded to do better things.

Chanso stood there and listened to how Barry declared that he'd be the new Sinnoh champion before Chanso could have a chance to get the first gym badge. Before Chanso could retort, Barry had already run off through Route 201 to get to Jubilife City.

Chanso, on the other hand, decides to head back and get a box of useful shit from his mom to deliver to Barry. He grimaced as he looked out to the route and sighed, smiling in a melancholic and excited manner as his Chimchar rested on his shoulders. 'This is gonna be a long journey...' He thought to himself, trudging through the grass.
