Chapter 7: Chaotic Boot Camp
True Luz awakens to find herself in her dreamscape once more.
"Oh God, not again!" True Luz says, she picks herself up. True Luz puts looks up and shouts. "Alright edgy me, come out wherever you are!" True Luz hears someone clearing their throat nearby. "I'm right here." The voice says.
True Luz looks back and sees Corrupted Luz, sitting in her bean bag, restrained by chains. She is standing behind a table filled with teacups and a teapot.
"Hey, I thought I got rid of you! What am I doing back here?" True Luz shouts.
Corrupted Luz sighs, "You merely restrained me, and took back control. I'm still left here to do, whatever. Here," a chair appears under True Luz, "have a seat." True Luz sits down
Corrupted Luz made the teapot pour tea into a cup, and then passed the cup to True Luz.
"What tea is this?" True Luz asked
Corrupted Luz shrugged while a cup of tea poured itself into her mouth, "Whatever you want it to be, it's your mind."
True Luz takes a small sip before putting the cup down. "Alright" True Luz says, "what do you want?"
"Oh, quick to the point already." Corrupted Luz states, before sighing, "Look, Luz, I know I haven't been the friendliest entity."
"Ya think?" True Luz asks rhetorically, she takes another sip of her tea.
"I know, just, I want to make things right, I think we can both get what we want, without anyone having to suffer."
True Luz gets off her chair, "And I think you're being delusional."
Corrupted Luz slumps back in the bean bag, "Fine, but do keep in mind that my offer is still on the table. I would make you stay longer, but I am getting pretty tired of seeing your face, so, BE GONE!"
Corrupted Luz tries to move her arm, but is stopped by the anime duct tape wrapped around her. "Oh yeah, I forgot I can't do the whole chain thing again. Can you just wake up soon?
True Luz stares at Corrupted Luz in disbelief, "Yeah, sure buddy." True Luz falls on her back and sinks into the floor.
Luz wakes up, she grabs the emerald and sees that it's still normal. "Oh, thank goodness, it was just a bad dream." Luz says relieved. She stands up on her mattress, "Time for a day of brutal training!" she exclaims. She picks up King, who was sleeping right by Luz.
"Wake up King!" Luz shouts while shaking King awake, "We have a new day ahead of us."
"Weh?" King tiredly exclaims, "Luz, it's too early for this, plus, you're the only one that's going to train."
"But King…" Luz replies, "If I want to be a master at handling the emerald, I can't wait to train myself." Luz takes King and runs downstairs. She looks in the living room, and finds Sonic, fast asleep on the coach. Luz runs towards Sonic.
"Sonic, Sonic!" Luz yells, she taps his forehead rapidly.
Sonic jumps up and lands on the floor, "What's going," He says, Sonic looks around, "Who do I have to beat up?" Sonic cracks his knuckles.
"Calm down Sonic," Luz says reassuringly, "I just want you to know that I'm ready to train to be an emerald user just like you!"
"Oh, okay…" Sonic says, a look of disappointment present on his face. "See you in an hour, Luz." Sonic slumps down on the couch, face first, and starts snoring.
"Oh, come on, Sonic!" Luz yells, "Where's all that energy you're usually full of?"
"How about you try being the fastest thing alive, then breaking a healthy sleep schedule!" Sonic shouts, his voice muffled by the couch.
A little over an hour later, Sonic, Luz, and King are outside, stretching. Sonic is wearing a sweatband on his forehead, Luz is in her Hexside uniform, and King is wearing a fashionable pair of sunglasses and lying down.
"I see you're eager to learn how to utilize the emerald," Sonic says, "But let's start with something familiar," Sonic takes his emerald and teleports behind Luz, "Like teleportation!"
Luz looks at Sonic eagerly, "Where am I going to, the top of a mountain, Deep underground, even to another universe?"
"I was thinking more," Sonic picks up a stool and places it a few feet away from her, "over here!" he taps the top of the stool.
Luz looks disappointed at Sonic, "Oh, really?"
"Hey" Sonic interjects, "This task isn't as easy as it appears. You not only have to be precise, but also balanced."
Luz looks at the stool, "Yeah, I think I got this." Luz holds out her emerald and teleports, she appears in the air and falls face-first into the stool. "Alright, let me try that again." she says while getting up. Luz proceeds to try teleporting on the chair over and over again, but fails to do so in a variety of comical ways. Luz finally manages to teleport on top of the stool, while barely balancing on it.
"Told you so!" Luz says while standing on the stool, Luz proceeds to fall off the stool and plant her face into the ground.
Sonic looks on in awe, "Alright, moving on" he says while walking away.
"Next on our agenda," Sonic states, "we will use the emeralds to lift objects into the air." Sonic puts a glass vase on the ground. "Now hold this vase in the air without breaking it"
Luz holds out the emerald and tries to lift the vase in the air, but she only manages to shake it, then tip it over. "Ugh, this should be easy…" Luz says disappointed, Sonic walks over to her.
"Luz," Sonic softly says, "you need to clear your mind of distractions. You're too focused on trying to be impressive and flashy. Just try to focus on the goal in hand, and the rest should come to you naturally.
Luz breathes in and out, "Alright." She closes her eyes and holds out the emerald, the vase shakes for a minute, before being lifted into the air. Luz opens her eyes and sees the vase being lifted in the air; she gets ecstatic. "Yeah, you see that King."
King lifts his sunglasses and observes Luz's feat, "Yeah, that's cool, but it also seems a bit easy."
"Oh yeah?" Luz says, slightly peeved, "How about you try, then?"
Sonic gets an epiphany, "Hey, that's a great idea, Luz!" Sonic grabs the yellow emerald, and passes it to King.
"Alright," King says, "Let me show you how it's done, but just be warned that this is a simple task for a demon such as myself, for I…" King rambles off about himself, while Sonic grabs the vase and throws it at King.
"Weh!?" king shouts, he holds out the emerald while looking away in fright. The emerald glows, and catches the vase while midair.
"Wow, you did it, King!" Luz says, she high-fives King. King drops the emerald in order to high five Luz, causing it to fall to the floor and shatter. The three of them look at the broken vase wide-eyed.
"That wasn't important, right?" Sonic nervously asked, the three of them ran off into the forest.
Sonic continues to lecture Luz and King in a familiar crash site, "Alrighty students, for your final lesson for today, we're going to use the emerald to enhance one's ability." Sonic pulls out the green emerald. "Now I can use this emerald in order to make myself, I don't know…" The emerald lights up and Sonic travels through a lot of the forest, and back to his previous position, in a matter of seconds, "Go fast!"
Sonic points at King, "what can you do, Buddy?"
King stands up, "I can do this." King positions himself, before shouting, "Weh!" creating a shockwave of sorts rumbling past Luz and Sonic.
"Impressive!" Sonic says, he clears his ears. "No, try doing that, but while harnessing the power of that emerald."
"Okay," King says, he clutches the emerald, and it glows.
Luz observes anxiously, before Sonic taps her shoulder. "I recommend covering your ears." Sonic says before doing just that to himself, Luz does the same.
King lets out a shout, followed by a shock wave that shakes trees, sends creatures running, and rumbles the general forest around that.
"Very nice!" Sonic complements, he pats King on the head before turning to Luz, "Now, what can you do, Luz?"
"Well," Luz explains, she draws a symbol on the ground. "I can't do magic naturally, so instead I use glyphs!" Luz taps the symbol she drew on the ground, and a flower sprouts up from the ground.
"Hmm, interesting." Sonic says, he ponders for a second, before coming up with an emerald suggestion. "What Might happen if you power up a piece of paper with a glyph on, with the emerald.
"I don't know," Luz says, she smirks while pulling out a paper with a plant glyph, "Let's find out!" Luz holds the paper against the emerald for a second, making both of them glow. She then places the glyph on the ground.
The ground beneath them starts to shake, Sonic, King, and Luz back away to a safe distance. A giant stem bursts from the ground, nearly as tall as the trees themselves. The vine stops growing, before it starts to sprout flowers from all around itself. Sonic, King and Luz look on in awe.
"Woah," Luz says, "This is incredible!"
"Indeed" Sonic says, he snaps back out into his snarky self, "Now let's get back home before Eda kills me!" Sonic tries to leave, but Luz holds on to his arm.
"Wait Sonic," Luz interjects, "There's still so much we can practice!"
"Yeah," King remarks, "Like screaming!" King does his enhanced vocal shock wave while facing the floor, launching himself on the top of a tree. "Help! This fowl tree has taken me hostage!"
Sonic shakes his head, "Alright now, let me get you down, so we can go home" Sonic is about to jump, before Luz pushes him aside.
"Don't worry Sonic," She boldly states, Luz grabs a plant glyph and powers it up with the emerald. "I got this!" She points the glyph at the tree, hoping to make a vine to pick king up with, Instead, she forms a giant log that falls on the ground.
"Luz, I think that's enough." Sonic comments.
"Wait, just let me get rid of the log!" States Luz, she slams a fire glyph on the emerald, and tries to pull it off, but it dissipates into the emerald. The emerald floats in the air, Sonic and Luz duck in anticipation. The emerald sends out a ring of fire, setting all the nearby trees on fire.
"Aw shoot!" Luz says, she looks around nervously, "You can fix this, right?" She turns to look at Sonic, but he is frozen in shock.
Luz looks around at the destruction happening around, the usually courageous Sonic, paralyzed with fear, and King holding on to a branch and his emerald for dear life. She realizes the gravity of her mistakes, and now, Luz must be left to fix them.
Luz teleports up to the branch holding King, picks him up, and teleports back to the ground. "Stay right here!" She says, "I'll fix this."
Luz runs over to Sonic and taps him on the shoulder, "Sonic, snap out of it!" Sonic turns to face Luz. "Run around in a circle over and over!" Luz commands, she draws up a special combination of glyphs.
Sonic nods and does as he's told, the wind starts to circle around where he runs. Luz slaps the glyph on the emerald, and points the emerald at the vortex Sonic is creating. The emerald spews out snow balls which circle around the vortex, Sonic keeps running, until he decides to stop and perform a ground pound. Snow flies all over the place, putting out all the fires.
Sonic stops to breathe, but a tree branch starts falling towards him. Luz quickly uses the emerald to stop the tree branch, giving the exhausted hedgehog enough time to escape, before Luz drops it.
After Luz uses plant glyphs to help the trees regrow their leaves, the trio leave the scene. The walk home was awkward, Sonic expression was cold, and Luz and King felt a great sense of shame. "Hey," Luz muttered, breaking the silence, "I'm really sorry about what I did there, I understand if you change your mind about letting me keep the emerald."
Sonic stops walking and sighs, King and Luz also stop walking. "Look" Sonic replies, "Don't get me wrong, I'm a little disappointed that the two of you didn't listen to me at first; But I'm really proud of how you took responsibility, and utilized the emerald's power properly in order to fix your mistake." Sonic chuckles with a slight sorrow, "Really, I should apologize for freezing up on you like that. So, thanks for snapping me out of it like that, okay?" Luz nods in agreement.
Sonic, Luz, and King walk out of the forest and towards the owl house. "Alrighty," Sonic says, back in his upbeat tone. "Let's go home! Eda's probably finished making lunch by n-" Sonic stops speaking when he notices an upset Eda standing next to the remains of vase Sonic brought out.
"Alright, which one of you is responsible for this?" Eda says in a calm yet stern voice while pointing at the vase remains.
"Hoot! You're in trouble!" Hooty says in a gossipy voice, he slowly slides towards Eda.
King and Luz both point at Sonic. Sonic looks around nervously, before slumping down in defeat, and saying, "Aw, Chili Dogs..."
Back at the emperor's palace, Eggman, and Alador are hard at work repairing and improving Eggman's portal device. Belos walks towards the three to check up on them.
"How's our esteemed scientist's device going?" Belos inquires, finger resting on his chin.
Alador takes off his goggles and faces Belos, "It's going smoothly, right, Ivo?"
Eggman chuckles while making a final adjustment to the glove, then putting on, "Indeed, Alador. With these new adjustments, I should make a portal that would be able to fit all of us at once, without the one at a time hassle I had to go through. Speaking of which, is your army ready, Belos?"
Odalia walks in, followed by a myriad of Abomaton Soldiers, "The soldiers are prepared for battle." she says calmly
Kikimora follows Odalia, leading the emperor's guards and scouts. "And so are the members of your coven, Your Highness." Kikimora bows, and the guards point their weapons out and stomp their feet on the ground in unison.
"In that case," Eggman chuckles and his glove makes a dark cut in the fabric of their world, "That Echidna won't know what hit him."
