(The Owl House X Sonic the Hedgehog)
Chapter 9: Little Coven of Horrors
Luz packs up her bag in the kitchen, while Sonic is eating an apple on a stool. "So, the emerald is located somewhere at Hexside?" he asks as he takes a bite out of the apple.
Luz nods, "Yes, according to the map, the emerald correlates with Hexside's location, I just have to use my emerald on a school guide, and track down the other emerald."
Sonic gets off the stool," Great, let's get going!" Sonic says, Luz stops for a second.
"Yeah, that might be a problem," Luz states, "Hexside tends to crack down on unwanted guests with the help of its guards, and I'm pretty sure Blue, speedy, Hedgehogs fall under that. Trust me," Luz pulls out a wanted poster of herself, "I was considered one of those at one point."
Sonic ponders for a second, "Well, I guess you could always retrieve the emerald on your own." He suggests.
Luz shudders at the thought, "I don't know, something usually goes horribly when trying to get a chaos emerald."
Sonic puts his finger up and tries to object, but then he thinks on Luz's words for a second and puts his finger down. "You know what, good point." Sonic replied, "So how do you think we should go by sneaking me inside?"
"Hmm," Luz ponders, "I think I may have an idea."
Half an hour later, Luz makes it to the entrance of Hexside, Sonic is curled up into a ball in Luz's bag. "Really, is this the best you could've come up with?" Sonic complains, muffled by the bag.
Luz looks back slightly annoyed, "Yes," she says, "Sneaking an anthropomorphic hedgehog into school is a lot harder than it looks." Luz looks forward, at the school, "Are you ready, Sonic?"
"As I'll ever be." Sonic replies, Luz walks towards the entrance.
Luz enters Hexside, she walks past the crowd of students and goes to her locker; she pulls out a Brochure of Hexside with a map, there is a glowing blue spot.
"Alright," Luz mumbled, "according to this map, the emerald should be in the class where we learn plant magic.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Sonic stated, "Let's get to it!"
Luz runs as fast as she can towards the plant class, she stops when she notices a crowd of students by the door, which is being guarded by Hexside's usual guards. Luz notices her friend Willow among the crowd, and taps her on the shoulder.
"What's going on, Willow?" Luz asks.
"I don't know, Luz." Willow replies, "We just got to class, and we weren't allowed in."
The announcements go on, and Principal Bump starts to speak. "Good morning Hexside, students who are a part of the Plant Trek may notice that their classroom is currently being guarded off. This is due to a mysterious object falling into the class, and having strange effects on organisms around it. Students of the plant trek are to have class outside for today."
The crowd of students murmurs and walks away, "Aw, this is going to be difficult." Luz says disappointed.
"What's going to be difficult, Luz?" Gus says from behind Luz and Willow, the two of them jump for a second.
"Oh, hey Gus," Luz says, "It's a long story, you two, but basically…" Before Luz can explain, the bell rings off.
"Oh, would you look at the time?" Willow said, "Well, see you later, Luz!"
"Yeah, see you, Luz." Gus says, Him and Willow go their separate ways.
Luz tries to stammer out an objection, but Willow and Gus are already gone. "This might be a problem." She speaks.
"We'll just have to make it a heist, then." Sonic says, "I guess you should get going to class anyway."
A few hours later, it is lunchtime in Hexside, Luz is sitting at a lunch table with Willow and Gus.
"So," Willow states, "What did you want to tell us, Luz?"
"Well, alright, but you have to promise not to tell anyone." Willow and Gus nod.
Luz opens her bag, and Sonic pops out of the bag, and uncurls on a lunch seat. Willow and Gus gasp.
"Ah, finally!" Sonic shouts, he breathes in and out heavily, "I thought I would suffocate in here, Luz"
"Woah," Willow says.
"What kind of Human is that?" Gus inquired.
"This is Sonic the hedgehog," Luz says; she rips a sandwich in half, and gives it to Sonic, who scarfs it down. "He came to our dimension from a portal, and is trying to track down the chaos emeralds." Luz pulls out an emerald and shows it to Gus and Willow.
"Is that what fell in my classroom?" Willow asks.
Luz nods her head, before she continues. "Now we need to find a way to get into that class, do you two have any idea on how to do that?"
Gus thinks for a second, "We could make ourselves invisible, that way we can sneak by the guards."
"There's one problem, Augustus," Willow interjects. "We also need a way to open the door and enter the room without alerting the guards. Not to mention the chance that there might be others inside.
"I can get Eda to make a smoke potion, but that won't be a long enough window to let us in." Luz stated
"What if we had something to make them go away from their post, like an abomination?" Gus suggested.
"Great idea, Gus!" Willow complimented, "But where would we get such an abomination?"
Luz got up eagerly, "Oh, we could get Amity!" Luz sits back down and ponders, "speaking of which, where is Amity? She usually sits here."
"None of us have seen her." Willow states, Gus nods accordingly.
"Well, I guess it's up to me to find her," Luz proudly stated, "Let's go Sonic"
"Alright…" Sonic said, annoyed, he curls into a ball, and jumps into Luz's bag. Luz grabs the bag and runs off into the hallway. Luz looks around until she spots Amity, looking sad by her locker.
"Hey Amity!" Luz shouts, Amity is surprised and drops some of her stuff. Luz goes to help Amity pick some stuff up. "What's up with you, why weren't you with us at lunch?" Luz asks Amity.
"O-oh, nothing really." Amity stammered nervously, her eyes darted around, "I was just caught up in boring family stuff. Anyway, what did you want to ask, Luz?"
Luz grabs Amity's hand and taps on the wall with the other, leading to a secret passage within the school walls; she drags Amity into the passageway. "Alright," Luz says, "I'll explain everything, but you have to promise not to freak out."
"Okay," Amity says, "but considering what we've been through, I don't know what-"
Before Amity could finish her sentence, Sonic pops out of the bag and lands in front of Amity; Sonic holds out his hand. "Hiya, I'm Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog."
Amity shrieks for a second, and falls to the ground; Luz helps Amity up while Sonic stretches his arms and legs. "This is Sonic the hedgehog, he's from another world."
Amity faces Sonic and reluctantly holds out her hand. "Well, hello, mister, The Hedgehog." Amity says nervously, Sonic shakes her hand.
Luz continues to explain, she holds out a chaos emerald. "The thing that was found in the classroom this morning was actually one of these gems called the chaos emeralds. Me, Willow, and Gus had devised a plan to take the emerald, but we need your help. So, what do you say, can you help us?" Luz holds out her hand.
"I don't know," Amity replied, "If Bump finds out we tried to do a heist at the school, we'd be expelled for sure."
"Come on, Amity, please?" Luz begs, she stares down Amity with puppy dog eyes.
Amity looks slightly annoyed, before sighing, "Fine, but if Bump asks, I'm not associated with the hedgehog."
Luz smiles at Amity, "Thanks Amity, you really are an awesome girlfriend."
Amity blushes and fidgets with her hands, "Aw geez, I'm not that cool." Amity replies, the school bell goes off.
"Alright you two," Sonic interjects, "let's get going now. The faster we get school done, the faster my suffering will be over with." Sonic jumps into Luz's bag.
Nightfall hits the boiling isles, Sonic, Luz, Willow, Gus, and Amity are at the side of Hexside. Sonic looks in the window, and spots one of the emperor's scouts inside the classroom, they're inspecting a sort of plant.
Sonic goes back to the group, "There's someone inside." He whispers. The rest of the group nods.
"How do we get inside?" Willow inquires.
"Don't worry," Sonic proudly states, he pulls out his emerald, "I got this part!" The emerald glows, and the group is teleported behind a row of lockers by the hallway.
"Woah," said Amity, she, Willow and Gus look around confused. "How'd you do that?"
Sonic chuckled, "It's just one of the perks of the emerald." Sonic looked at the door, still being guarded. "Now it's time to execute the plan," Sonic looks at Luz and Amity, "are you ready?
The two of them nod, "yes!" Amity says. Amity makes an abomination from the abomination material in her canister, Luz holds the emerald towards the abomination, and it grows in size and emits an orange aura. She sends out the abomination, and it eyes the two Hexside guards. The Hexside guards notice the abomination, and point their crooks at it, but the abomination grabs both of them.
The emperor's scout exits the room after hearing the commotion. "What's going on here?" they ask, the scout then looks at the destructive abomination. "Uh oh." The scout says before being snatched by the abomination.
Amidst all the chaos, Gus cast an invisibility spell on the group. The five of them manage to sneak into the classroom while the abomination wreaks havoc. Sonic blocks off the entrance to the room after everyone enters. Sonic and the rest of the group walked closer to the emerald, which was glowing red and wrapped deep in vines.
"Woah, would you look at that." Sonic said, amazed. The five looked on at this unusual sight.
Luz walked over to the emerald, "Well, looks like this was an easy heist." She reaches for the emerald, but stops when she sees the vines rustling. A small carnivorous plant rises from the emerald and yawns; it looks at Luz, cocks its head to the side, and coos.
"Looks like this little buddy, just woke from his nap." Sonic said.
Luz's eyes widened, "Aw, it's a cute little baby." She says in baby talk. She holds her hand out to try and pet it, but the plant bites Luz's hand and hisses. "AGH, not a cute little baby." Luz yelled, she pulled her hand back and covered her bite mark.
"Careful Luz," Willow says, "that's one of the flesh eating plants in this class."
"Well, what do we do about the plant, then?" Luz questioned, she looked at her friends.
Sonic stepped forward, "Well, we could always, you know" Sonic cracks his knuckles.
Luz and her friends inaudibly gasp and look on in fright. "T-that won't be necessary, Sonic,'' Willow nervously stammered, "I'll just use my plant magic to immobilize it, so we can get the emerald.
Willow walks over to the plant and the plant cocks its head to the side, Willow casts a spell circle, and the plant goes stiff, and let's go of the emerald. "See, that wasn't so hard." Willow says, she looks at Sonic with a smug look. Sonic shrugs with a slightly annoyed look and taps his foot on the ground. Willow goes to retrieve the emerald, but vines sprout at her, and the emerald starts to glow.
"Told you so..." Sonic casually said in a cocky voice, Willow looks annoyed at Sonic.
Sonic and the group back off as the ground beneath them rumbles. The small carnivorous plant shook around, before it grew in size and towered over the five of them. The plant looms over Sonic and the students, and smiles, showing off its sharp teeth. Smaller, identical plants accompany the original, and circle around the group of five
"Well, well, well," The plant says in a deep, sassy, and sinister tone, "Looks like this little rock thing gave me this almighty form," The plant looks at Sonic & Co, "and some snacks." The plant licks its lips.
The group of five look at this hulking plant in horror, Luz turns to look at Sonic. "What are we supposed to do now?" she asks.
Sonic walks forward, and pulls out an emerald from his satchel; "Don't worry, Luz." Sonic states, "All we have to do is…" Before Sonic can finish his sentence, he is snatched up by the plant's vines, and thrown into the plant's mouth and swallowed.
Luz and her friends gasp, "Oh my god, Sonic the Hedgehog is dead!" Gus shouted.
"Not dead!" Sonic shouts; Sonic's voice is muffled by being inside the plant. "Surprisingly enough, this isn't the first time I've been swallowed whole." Sonic gags, "But it is the first time the smell was this wretched."
Luz grabs Sonic's satchel and emerald off the floor, and wears the satchel around her arm. "Alright guys, let's get that emerald and hedgehog back from that theatre reject!" Amity, Gus, and Willow nod.
"Well children," the plant says, the other plants look towards it, "IT'S TIME TO FEAST!"
The spawn of the plant lunges towards the four students, Gus turns the whole group invisible, and the plants crash on the ground. The plants look around for the students before they reappear; Willow casts a spell circle, and uses her magic to slam the plants to the ground. The plants growl and lunge at Willow, they wrap around her, but Amity uses abomination goop to cut Willow free. Luz gets behind Amity, and shoots fire glyphs at the plants, making them writhe on the ground until they go limp.
"NO, MY BABIES!" The plant says, it growls furiously at the four students and shoots vines into the ground.
As the ground starts to rumble, the four students look around confused. Hard vines burst from the ground and the students try desperately to dodge them as they strike. The vines eventually become too much to handle for them, so the students fall to the ground after so many blows. Vines hold the students down as the plant chuckles and opens its jaws wide. It faces towards the struggling students and slams its mouth into the ground. The plant lifts itself back out, but it doesn't see Luz or her friends among the rubble.
"What the!?" the plant shouts in shock, it looks around the room, "Where did those brats go!?"
Luz teleports from above the plant, clutching her friends, who have their eyes closed in fright. She puts a fire glyph on the emerald, and shoots a fire beam directly in the plant's face, pushing it back to the ground. Luz uses a plant glyph to make a soft bed of flowers for them to land in. Willow, Gus, and Amity open their eyes to see that they had made it safely out of the vines.
"How did we make it out?" Amity asks.
Luz chuckles and pulls out an emerald, "I just used one of these," Luz pulls out two more emeralds, and passes them to Willow and Amity, "Here, you try!"
Gus looks at Amity and Willow flabbergasted, "Hey, what about me,"
Luz looks at Gus apologetically, "Sorry Gus, I only had two, so you have to share with Willow."
Gus grunts, "Of course, Amity gets her own…" he quietly mumbles to himself.
The ground rumbles as the plant rises back up, "You annoying brats really goofed up now! Time to face the wrath of a mean, green, mama!"
The plant raises its vines up and slam them towards the students, they manage to dodge out of the way. The plant swings another vine from the side of the students, Willow uses the emerald to stop the vine, and rip it off the plant. The plant lets out a wretched screech before it points vines at the students and shoots them at them. Amity uses the emerald to make a shield from the abomination matter. The plant grunts as its attacks fail to hit the students.
"Just perish, you brats!" The plant furiously shouted, it put vines into the ground.
"Quick," Gus said as he turned to Willow. "Pass me the emerald."
Willow passes the emerald to Gus, and he casts an illusion spell over the plant. The plant looked around, but all it could see was darkness.
"Show yourselves!" The plant commanded, but no one responded. The plant eventually heard a voice say, "over here!" The plant made a vine burst from where the voice was heard, but nothing was hit. More voices were heard taunting the plant, but the plant failed every time to hit the source of the voices.
The plant eventually gains vision back, and sees Luz above it. "Over here!", she says, before unleashing a flurry of hail on the plant's head.
Luz drops to the ground while the plant angrily shakes off pieces of hail. The plant lifts two vines, but Amity uses the emerald to make a giant abomination to hold back the plant.
"Luz, finish it off!" Amity commands as she struggles to hold back the plant. Luz nods and prepares to shoot a beam of fire at the plant. The plant manages to make a vine burst from the ground and hit Amity in the face, knocking her back and making the abomination collapse.
"Amity!" Luz shouts, she runs over to Amity and drops the fire glyph on the ground.
Luz and Amity are grabbed by vines and lifted, Willow holds the vines down for a couple seconds, but she is grabbed by a vine behind her.
"Hey you," Gus shouts, grabbing the attention of the plant. He makes doubles of himself around the room. "Try and catch me!" Gus shouts, but before him and the doubles can run, he is immediately grabbed by the plant, and the doubles dissipate.
The plant lifts the four struggling students towards its face and chuckles. "Looks like your time has run out" the plant continues to cackle, and opens its jaws. The students struggle as the plant slowly guides them into its mouth. Luz struggles, causing an ice glyph to fall right beneath the plant's head. Luz's eyes widen, and she gets an idea, she carefully positions her emerald between her feet, and throws at the ice glyph.
The plant stops laughing and looks down at the emerald as it absorbs the ice glyph, and starts to glow. "Aw sh-" is all the plant can say before it's impaled by tall icicles in the head and neck.
Luz and her friends fall to the ground, and Willow makes another bed of flowers for them to land in. The head of the plant falls off its stem and plops to the ground. The red emerald falls out of the plant's mouth, and its stem lands gently on the head. The stem rustles around for a bit before Sonic emerges, covered in a slimy substance.
"Ugh," Sonic says, shaking off the plant guts, "I think I prefer the bag to this!" Sonic gags.
Willow turns to Luz, "Wow Luz, that was incredible!" She says, congratulating Luz.
"Yeah," Gus adds, "I thought for sure we would die." Gus laughs awkwardly before staring at the plant head, his smile fades.
"Hey, you guys were awesome too!" Luz replies, she points at Willow, "Like when Willow ripped off a vine," she points at Gus, "or when Gus cast that illusion on the plant," she points at Amity, who is plopped face first on the bed of flowers, "and Amity with that giant abomination." Luz realizes that Amity is unconscious, and runs towards her.
"Amity!" Luz yells as she shakes Amity, "are you okay?"
Amity gets up and groans, she puts her hand where the vine hit her on her head. "I'm alright, Luz." Amity says reassuringly, "I just got a little hurt, that's all."
Luz smiles, "Well, I'm glad to know you're fine." She hugs Amity, who blushes and freezes up in response, "You were incredible out there."
Amity unfreezes and hugs Luz back, "Well so were you."
Sonic grabs his satchel and the green and yellow emeralds. "Well, I think we should get home before your parents kill me." Sonic says, he looks at Luz. "Luz, will you do the honors?"
Luz nods and holds up the emerald, Gus & Willow walk over to her. She yells, "Chaos Control!" And they teleport out of the room. Sonic nods approvingly, before eyeing the blue emerald. "Wait a minute," Sonic says, "I almost forgot the emerald!"
Sonic picks up the emerald, before hearing someone yell, "What's going on here!" Sonic turns around, and sees Principal Bump in a nightgown, staring down Sonic through the doorway. "Who are you?" Bump inquiries.
Sonic looks around nervously, "I'm uh…" Sonic eyes the emerald in his hand, "The emerald inspector!" Sonic walks over to bump and puts his hand on his shoulder, "This was just a standard procedure gone just a bit haywire." Sonic bluffs, a piece of ceiling falls next to him. "Here!" Sonic passes Bump a handful of golden rings from the satchel. "This should cover the damages." Sonic walks away and points at the emerald, "Well, I better bring this to corporate, so, uh, BYE!" Sonic teleports out of there.
Bump plays with the handful of rings given to him and walks away while saying, "What a nice young fellow!"
Sonic teleports back to the owl house, where Luz and her friends have already settled. The moon lays overhead, and the wind flows slowly. Sonic walks up to Luz and her friends
"Well, that's four emeralds in the bag." Sonic says, He looks at Gus willow and Amity, "I guess you guys should get going,"
"Yeah," Gus says, looking down tired, "Too bad we left our staffs at home, so we have to walk home."
"They probably would've been useful back at the fight also" Willow adds.
Sonic thinks for a second, "I know!" he blurts out, "I'll just teleport you guys with the emerald."
Willow and Gus look excitedly at Sonic, while Amity just stands there, "That won't be necessary for me, but thanks." Amity says
Sonic looks at her confused, "Are you sure?" he asks, "It's really just a quick trip for me."
Amity nods, "I'm sure, I just feel like walking."
Sonic shakes his head, "Okay then, suit yourself." He faces Gus and Willow, "Alright, who wants to go first."
As Sonic helps out Gus and Willow, Amity starts walking home, but Luz follows. "Hey, you've been a little weird today." Luz states.
Amity faces Luz, "What do you mean by weird, Luz?" she questions.
"Well for starters, you didn't sit with me, Willow, and Gus at lunch today." Luz says, "And you didn't want to be teleported home by Sonic." Luz thinks for a second, "This isn't just an elaborate way to get me to walk home with you, is it?"
Amity chuckles, "No, I just have some boring personal stuff going on, and I don't feel pushing on to others. I'm sorry about that"
"Amity, it's alright, I understand." Luz reassures, "But if you feel like you need help, just remember you have plenty of friends," Luz points her thumbs at herself in a cocky way while closing her eyes, "and an awesome girlfriend."
Amity lets out a soft laugh, "Hey, I thought that was my title!" Luz chuckles at Amity's quip, Luz and Amity eventually arrive at the gate of the blight mansion; they stare out at the large abode. "Well, I guess this is where we say goodbye." Amity remarks.
"In that case," Luz replies, "Goodnight, Amity, I Love you."
Amity smiles, "Love you too." she replies, the two wave and go their separate ways.
As Amity approaches her family's front door, her smile fades into a nervous expression. She quietly knocks on the door, and an abomination servant opens it up. Amity quietly closes the door and sneaks through the living room, she approaches the stairs.
Amity makes her first step on the stairs, but she hears a voice say, "Amity Blight!" She turns around, and the person lights a candle, revealing herself to be Odalia. "Sit down honey," Odalia says, "I think we should have a little chat before bed.
"Yes mother." Amity replies, slightly annoyed, she sits down on a chair opposite of her mother's.
"It shouldn't have taken you that long to recover the emerald from the scout," Odalia says, she smirks at Amity and puts on a smug voice. "Considering, you did get the emerald, right?"
Amity sighs and rests her chin on her head. "No, mother." Amity replies, rolling her eyes.
"Let me guess," Odalia states, "you let a little rodent get there before you." Odalia gets off of her chair. "Luckily that doesn't matter, as long as my little surprise goes well tomorrow." Mrs. Blight puts her hand on Amity's shoulder, "Now be prepared for tomorrow, okay sweetie? I know you won't let us down, right."
Amity nods, "Yes, mother."
Amity heads for the stairs, Odalia looks at Amity, "Goodnight, Amity, I love you."
Amity stops, but does not turn to face her mother, "Thanks, Mom." she says, she smiles, but her eyes remain dull. She continues her walk upstairs.
